Illustrator CS4 won't open any files since installing CS6

Every since I installed CS6, whenever I try to open files in Illustrator (all files, not just the new downsaved from CS6 files), the program goes into "Not Responding" and I can't do anything until I crash out. It also will not let me create new files.
I've tried deleting my Adobe Illustrator CS4 Settings folder as I saw suggested in another discussion, but it did not help.
Since my CS6 trial is ending soon and I'm not sure about upgrading yet, I really need my CS4 to be functional.
I'm running WIndows Vista 64 bit. Never had any problems with Illustrator before this.
Any suggestions?

Ok, so I uninstalled Illustrator CS4, ran the CS Cleaner Tool, which messed up all my other CS4 programs, reinstalled the whole CS4 Suite, and Illustrator CS4 STILL won't open files (or allow me to create new ones). I only have two days left on my CS6 trial and I'm not sure if I'm upgrading right away, so I really need to figure out a way to make my AI CS4 work soon!

I am still using Illustrator cs4, and I was working on a file, and when I tried to access Kuler, it said not connected. I checked my internet connection and it is working fine.I even tried to access the update server and it said not available. I was just wondering how to resolve the issue, do I need to reinstall the software. any thoughts on the matter would be greatly appreciated.

Dreamweaver is not an image editor.
It uses HTML and CSS to insert colours in pages. HTML and CSS only do solid colors.
If you need gradients, you must create them in an image editor such as Photoshop or Fireworks then insert the image into your webpage in DW using CSS.

How do I save a messages in text, NOT template or file?

I want to be able to save an email from outlook, gmail, Hotmail, or any other format as a plain text or rich text message. Several of my emails are readable by TB24, but the only option for saving them is the Template or file. This is fine for those messages already in the mailbox, but if I can read an archived message in TB format, I should be able to save it in the same fashion. I guess a converter plugin is needed or a tutorial on how to properly save emails from other formats. Ex I open a folder containing an email from a past Outlook acct, The email can be deciphered by TB24, (ie it opens it), but when I try to save it to file(which gives options for format), it doesn't respond to my request!! Am I not doing something correctly or does the TB24 program "block" that function because of it is not in the TB24 mailbox? Baffling and frustrating when try to find a particular message from numerous formats. Thanks to all those who know more than I about this.

How do you search and index messages when saved as independent and free-standing text files? I keep email correspondence within the email client specifically because the tools to manage and search are effective and efficient. In fact I occasionally email myself something that needs to be preserved simply because as email it is so easy and convenient to find and retrieve. Searching for text in documents in Windows has become a chore.
I'm not at all sure why you want to open email messages from other environments in Thunderbird, only to save them as text files. But have you tried "Edit As New" to see if that will offer other save options?
What format(s) are these other messages from outlook, gmail, windows live saved in then?
Don't forget simple old select all, copy and paste to save message content in any other document type.

when I start it, it opens just the first one and the i- explorer window doesn't close as usual. And when I choose for each own a button then it works proper.

I just purchased a new iMac for one of our Graphics employees, and in addition to Adobe CC she needs Illustrator CS5 installed, because there is a plugin we use for a client that isn't available for versions newer than CS5. The problem I'm running in to is our CS5 copy was an upgrade from CS4 and naturally this was before we started using the Adobe TLP so we bought everything retail and nobody can find our CS4 licensing info.

Illustrator cs4 outlines fonts from older files

We have a font we use for checks (MICR).
Illustrator cs3 would randomly drop an extra space in the bank account in this font 8% of the time.
Illustrator cs4 when opening files saved from previous versions outlines this font. Which is a bit of a hassle if we need to change the account number.
Any way around this conundrum?

Disable missing glyph protection in the prefs and the respective options in the text palette. You have used some sort of custom text formatting and AI is merely favoring appearance over editability. The type engine has been changed in recent versions, that's why older files may yield different results when being opened...

How can I save a Numbers spreadsheet as a tab delimited file?

Okay, I would like to save a Numbers spreadsheet as a tab delimited file. But of course I can't do that, since Numbers only saves as a comma separated values file.
Plan B: I can open up a CSV file created by Numbers in TextEdit, and I would like to Find and Replace all the commas with tabs. So I open up the Find window, enter a comma under Find, but of course when I put the cursor in the Replace blank and hit the Tab key, it just goes to the next blank instead of giving me a Tab.
Is there a way I can get a Tab into that blank so I can replace all the commas with tabs?

When we use TextEdit as I described, rows are separated by Returns.
It appears that your program requires LineFeeds.
Here is a neat soluce.
Save this script as an Application Bundle.

How can I download my Illustrator CS4?

I bought Illustrator CS4 directly from Adobe online; I never had a disk. My hard drive has gone whacko-, I had to replace it. Now I can't get illustrator to run, and the link I had that used to bring me to the download site no longer has a download link. I don't mind buying software online; but I didn't get a disk. I don't want to have to buy an upgrade just because my hard disk crashed but by removing the link to my software, it appears they're trying to make me do that. I still have the serial number and it was a full install, not an upgrade. Anybody know what I can do about this?

Illustrator CS4 working slower than CS2

Hi all,
I am working with a PDF file in Illustrator CS4, when I try to scroll with my hand tool it takes forever for the image to refresh and update to the new location. But when I work on the same PDF file in Illustrator CS2, scrolling with the hand tool is fine and the image updates to where I move it to really fast. The I checked the Units & Display Performance in both versions and they appear to be the same. Is there any other thing that I could try to make the PDF update faster in CS4? Thanks in advance.

Hello Pwitman,
You are experiencing a CS4 Critical Bug. This CS4 version came with very serious and critical bugs (like the Memory Bug, Crop Marks, Icon Preview. Text spacing, etc, etc, etc.) that Adobe wont care to fix.
May that is why you have not receive a direct answer. The hole program can crash for one font that the CS4 version considers as a corrupt font (even when other programs or older versions can use the same font).
That is why CS2 is more reliable than the "new" version CS4. Adobe is going from bad to worse. I cannot wait to see CS5's bugs that Adobe wont fix.
I made the mistake of buying CS3; and now I do things in CS2 that CS3 or CS4 cannot do. Yep the old version can do things better than CS3 and CS4.
So where is the CS4 update? Well, Adobe will sell you CS5 as an update.

Yes, but only if you have CS4. Be aware that it opens up a can of worms of potential problems but should be OK for less complex documents in one off cases.
To do it export an idml from CS5, open in CS4 and export a inx file. Then go here and follow the instructions, or just do the same thing in CS3 if you have that.
