i'm setting up a new time capsule and i would like to use it as a back and also an external hard drive to be views from my network but once i select the time machine option i can't drop and drag file into the time capsule, please help

You can drag and drop files to the Time Capsule using the Finder.
Open Macintosh HD or the Finder and look for the Time Capsule icon under the SHARED heading on the left side of window.
Click on the Time Capsule icon and a folder representing the drive will appear in the window to the right.
Double click the folder to mount the drive on the desktop.

In technical support, sometimes you have to make educated guesses. I'm sorry that you were offended.
iTunes does prompt when it is going to erase a device, and the message is clear.
She said in her message that she was able to successfully sync the old ipad. This indicated to me that itunes wiping the data was not an issue, because either it had been setup at the apple store (in which case it doesn't actually wipe the ipad despite saying it will*) (*based on a single case I saw), or because the itunes media folder was migrated.
Furthermore, my solution was to tell her how to backup her ipad (by either doing it manually, or as a last resort, by deleting the corrupt backup -- that she couldn't access anyway.)
I got that last part of the instructions from the "Taking Control of your iphone" book which I found samples of when I did a google search for "corrupted backup itunes".
She marked this as a solution, so it worked for her.

This is really difficult to the point of not really worth it.
Keep the old TM backups in archive.. and start afresh on the TC.
Time Machine has a different way of backing up on Network drives cf Local drives.
Pondini does have a method to do it... but I would not recommend it.

  • How do I transfer data from one time capsule to new time capsule when TC backs up an iMac and Power Book

How do I transfer data from one time capsule to new time capsule when TC backs up an iMac and MacBookPro

It is generally better to leave the old backups and start again.. unless there is something you particularly need.
But if you desperately want all the old backups you have to copy the sparse bundles.. this will take very long time as it must copy via the computer..

Take particular note of the initial comments.. ie before you read how to do it.. don't do it.

You might want to take a look at FileBrowser.

Can I access the data on the time capsule from the Internet?

You need to follow the BTMM via icloud instructions.
    http://www.apple.com/support/icloud/back-to-my-mac/
There are plenty of other ways to do it.. but issues to do with Apple not using a dynamic DNS client so if your ISP does not allocate you a static public IP there is no way to find it, if the public ip rotates as they are designed to do hourly or daily.
Do a google search, remote access time capsule..
Or use the more like this on the right hand side... there are plenty of posts and even youtube video which go right through it.
BTW your school system may simply block the port.. if I was a school IT admin.. I would. You are dragging files across to the internal school network bypassing the firewall.. that is unacceptable risk to the whole school system.

You might be aware Toad is not an Oracle product, so you need to post this at the forums of Quest, http://www.questsoftware.com

  • Will I loose existing data on the Time Capsule if I use it now for Time Machine also?

Till now I only save photos, music and movies on my AirPort Time Capsule 2 TB. From now on I also want to use it for Time Machine Backups also. But I am not sure if it my data and the backup will exist in parallel.

You can drag and drop files to the Time Capsule using the Finder.
Open Macintosh HD or the Finder and look for the Time Capsule icon under the SHARED heading on the left side of window.

  • How do i save photos directly to time capsule

I want to use time capsule as a hard drive primarily for photos and I am unsure how to do this.  Thank you for any assistance.

Let's start over here, please. I'm sure that the Apple folks meant well, but I doubt that they really understood what you were asking.
The "originals" are on your Mac now, correct?  And you want to move these "originals" to the Time Capsule, correct?
If you do this....your "originals" will be on the Time Capsule.  When...not if...the Time Capsule has a problem, you have no backups for your photos and you lose everything.
For valuable data that you do not want to lose, you need at least 2 copies of everything. Originals are on one disk and backups are on another. When....not if....one disk has a problem, you at least have another copy of your valuable images.
We have seen numerous posts from users who are trying to do what you plan to do. All too often, we hear that there has been a problem with the drive...a loss of power...a mistake...any of a number of different things....and the user has lost all of their valuable data....because they had no backups.
I would never consider something like this for my images. Are you OK with having no backups?  If yes, we can tell you how to move the images over.....if you will not hold us responsible for the consequences.

  • How to connect my iMAC to the time capsule(with cable)?!

I bought the Time Capsule Machine and I tried more than 8 times to do the backup.
Always it takes some days and doesn't finish. So, I thought maybe the problem could be the connection without cables. But I don't know how to do it, I tried without success.
    Thank's

Thank you for helping me, but I already tried and didn't work... Maybe I put it on the wrong place, but if I did it, I really don't know where is the wright place...
There are 2 different kind of place to put on the time capsule and only one on the iMac... I tried both!
    Thank you again

  • How do i transfer data from one Time Capsule to another?

We ran out of space on our old Time Capsule, so I purchased the 2TB model. Problem is that there are no direction (that I can locate) on how to switch over from one device to the other! Can anyone direct me to some online instructions?

The great Pondini.. wonder of TM
    http://pondini.org/TM/18.html
    saves the day.
But IMHO.. start a fresh TM backup on the new TC.. preserve the old TC for posterity.. about 6months.. after which time if you didn't need anything on it you won't.

  • How do I start over with the time capsule.

ok here is it goes.  Just moved into a new house and installed a new imac with sonos (3) play fives.  The power has gone out a few times and tehn my sonos looses its connection. (frustrating) so the other day I had to reset the sonos and now it will not find the shared drive even though it is there.  The geek squad set up my timecapsule and I am frustrated trying to figure it out.  It would be easier if I redo the whole thing myself.  I do not want to lose my info (music on the HD) just tear down the network and redo it so I know how the heck to fix things when needed.

Any info on the TC is not touched by any reset you do.. the disk will need to be erased which is only done as a deliberate action. Plug in the TC by ethernet if not already, and hold down the reset button. Wait about 10sec and it will do a reset. If you press the button for only 1sec it will reset the passwords to default for 5min, and that may give you access. But nothing you do will wipe the drive.
Give it a go and learn.. that is the best way if you have the time and patience.

  • Seeing the time capsule on my pc network

When I first installed my time capsule, I was able to see the hard drive from both my Mac Air and my HP laptop.  For some reason, now, I can connect to the internet on my PC, but I can't see the hard drive on the time capsule as part of my network.  How can I store data to the time capsule from my PC?

Make sure you laptop is in the correct network area.. ie home.. not work or public.. Windows can spontaneously change.. because it is a full moon and the wind is westerly.
Open command window and ping the TC by name and IP address. Does it respond.. you cannot access it if it doesn't.
In windows explorer type the TC name or IP address..
\\TCname or \\TCIPaddress (if you don't use SMB names in your TC. ie short with no spaces and pure alphanumeric.. don't expect windows to work. )
Do you have bonjour for windows installed or better still the airport utility for windows? That helps heaps.
Finally if none of the above works .. use ethernet and turn off all firewalls.
