How do I save DVDs onto my iMac

I have to rip a DVD onto my iMac with handbrake but message coming up saying
64 bit not compatible.  Any advice would be greatly appreciated as I am new to iMac.

The current Apple thinking is that the entire world has access to fast broadband and wants to distribute home movies to friends and relatives via download (iCloud) rather than mailing them a DVD. The fact that in reality not all users do, has so far had no effect on this policy. If you scream and shout loudly enough down the phone Apple may send you a free copy of iDVD. That worked for some, but is now said to have been withdrawn by Apple. Also, you can complain bitterly here, perhaps suggesting that Apple could have provided a choice between using iCloud and burning DVDs:
http://www.apple.com/feedback/
Whilst Macs with a Superdrive continue to be able to burn video DVDs, the software for so doing, iDVD, is no longer included in the iLife bundle that comes with OS 10.7 Lion (which also omitted iWeb) or will come with OS 10.8 Mountain Lion. And it is no longer included in the iLife 11 from the online Apple Store: http://www.apple.com/ilife/. Your only solution is to look on Amazon or eBay and try to get an older version that includes iDVD.
However, the vastly more expensive FCPX can burn a DVD without iDVD or DVD Studio Pro involvement, but lack the themes etc of iDVD. Also, of course, there is Roxio Toast.

  • How do I save DVD to file to.....

later send as an email attachment? I have some movies of my kids recently transferred from 8mm tape to dvd, I can play DVD on my imac but can't figure out how to "save it"... Any help is appreciated. Thanks

Let's take it step by step. Insert the DVD. If DVD Player appears, ignore it (just minimize the window). Look on your Finder - do you see the DVD image icon? If so, double click that icon to get into the disk. A DVD will have two folders, VIDEO_TS and AUDIO_TS. You just need the VIDEO_TS folder, drag it to your location of choice. I'd advise you to grab the whole folder, not just the files inside it.
Also, DVD files can't really be emailed - they'd be way too big. Your best bet is either to copy the DVD and send physical copies, or convert the DVD files to a smaller file format, such as mp4, which can be emailed OR (and perhaps better), placed online so that you can just share a link to a webpage.

  • Recording dvds onto an imac from a Sky HD box

    Dear apple afficionados
We have recently installed a Sky HD box and have recorded quite a few programmes that I would like to record onto DVD to keep permanently. We do not have a DVD recorder but my imac has a DVD recording facility. Is it possible to transfer the programmes from the Sky box onto the imac? If so, what equipment would I need? By the way, I am not a very technical minded person but would be willing to have a go if the instructions are easy to follow.
Thanks in advance for any advice - even to say it isn't possible.
    Anne

    Hi
Unfortunately, cable and satellite boxes generally encrypt their contents to prevent you making the kind of copies you're talking about. It's possible that some of the programs are unencrypted; you could locate your box's model number (it's probably manufactured by a third party, not Sky themselves) and see if there are any online forums with information about it.

  • HT1848 How can I add photos to the iPad while not deleting any currently on it? I have some photos from my brother's camera that I can't get again.  How could save them onto my iMac?

I have uploaded photos from my brother's camera while on vacation to my iPad (1).  Now that I wish to add even more photos to the iPad,  iTunes say that it will replace all the photos once I sync again to add from an album on the iMac.
    WHOA.
I'd like to upload the photos to the iMac! HOw can I do that?
How can I add photos from albums on the iMac and not lose the ones I currently have stored onthe iPad.
I cannot find this task addressed in any Help reference.
I do not understand why I cannot make a simple file transfer back and forth.
    Many thanks!

Another way. You can use a USB flash drive & the camera connection kit.
Plug the USB flash drive into your computer & create a new folder titled DCIM. Then put your movie/photo files into the folder. The files must have a filename with exactly 8 characters long (no spaces) plus the file extension (i.e., my-movie.mov; DSCN0164.jpg).
Now plug the flash drive into the iPad using the camera connection kit. Open the Photos app, the movie/photo files should appear & you can import. (You can not export using the camera connection kit.)

  • How do I save type onto a transparent bkgd?

I'm trying to save some type onto a transparent background.  Every time I flatten my layers I end up with the type on a white bkgd.  How do I maintain the cutout?  thanks in advance.

Instead of flattening the layers all at once merge the layers with the text and effects and delete the background layer(s) if you have any, leaving a single layer that has a transparent background.  Optionally you will want to make an Alpha Channel and save the file as a TIFF or a PNG with transparency.  Tiff is preferred depending on what you want to do with the file.  If it's for the web, then png is preferred.

  • How do I save iMovies onto an external hard drive?

I have several hours of home movies on i movie that i would like to now back up onto my external hard drive, but when I am on the desktop and try to drag the movies into the hard drive they bounce back & cut and paste does not work either.... what am I missing??

And assuming dwb is right and the drive IS formatted with NTFS (which is my suspicion as well) you have several options. You could reformat the drive with FAT or Mac OS Extended, which the Mac could write to, but would also erase all files currently on the external drive. OR you could download an NTFS driver such as Paragon which should enable your Mac to write to an NTFS drive without reformatting.

  • How do I save effects onto the source loop file

I have a ton of effects on a particular loop; it'd be nice to mix it all down so the source loop has all the processing already on it.
That way i can free up resources and use the post-processed loop in the future.
    any ideas??

Not sure if you understood Hang's explanation so if you didn't, 'Sharing' the file is a digital mixdown - the same as rendering the file as an audio file. You can 'share' the file to the desktop and drag and drop back onto the Garageband timeline. Then 'add to loops library'.
