How do I save individual clips?

How do I save clips without saving an entire project?
I take video of stock car races and I need to save crash clips to make a crash video at the end of the season. I don't have the room to save all the videos from all the nights of racing. I just want to save the clips to a file. Can someone please tell me how to do that in CS3?
I used to use Premiere 6.5 and it was not an issue. I have just started using CS3 and don't see Save Clip As on the menu.
Thanks
Tonya

Place the video clip in the source monitor and mark your in/out points around the clip you want to keep. Then, with the source monitor still selected, chose File > Export > Movie. Then, in the export options choose "In to Out" instead of "Entire Clip." You have to set the in/out points and export one at a time (no batch options here).
Another way to approach this is to set your in/out points in the source monitor, drop the clips on the timeline one after the other and then use the project manager function to export a trimmed project. This will actually go through and save an individiual file for each of the clips on the timeline. There's only one "gotcha" here, you just need to make sure that you have a good amount of space trimmed from the original video between each clip (needs to be at least 5-10 frames in my experience...if you add handles in the project manager settings, you need to account for that duration between clips as well).
For example, if you have a crash scene at 01;11;00;00 until 01;11;30;00, but your next scene begins at 01;11;31;00 you will probably want to trim some frames off one clip or the other, or else it will become a single clip.
Make sense?
Good luck!

Set the work area on the timeline to the limits of the clip that you want to export.  Then File>Export>Media.
You need to consider what the exported file is intended for, so you can determine a suitable format and preset for the export.

  • Want to save Individual clips with separate names

Moving from Final cut over to Imovie. In Final Cut could save any clip with a separate name. Other than copying a clip over to a new project and rendering a move, I could not find how to do that in imovie, or in the tutorials/manual. I have spent a good deal of time bringing the HD movies over to Imovie and selecting out the clips to make a new movie. These clips must now be archived with individual names.
    Any help would be appreciated,
    Thanks in advance!

Probably collecting everything on an artboard into a new layer might give you the option to use a script to save layers to files.
But this is a feature request but no as of yet has suggested a way that this might work, at least I do not think so.

  • How can I save a clip for later use?

When I am editing a project and going through my footage I often find a short clip that I'd like to use maybe later in the timeline or possibly to use in a different project. How can I do that?
This may be obvious but I want to rename and save that clip somewhere (I'm assuming the event library) so do I have to create a new clip from the original and save it or what?
Again, sorry of this is basic but its these litle things that seem to be the hardest to find out but make the biggest difference to the workflow and editing speed.
    Cheers

If this is a one-off thing, mark the clip as a Favorite.

If you have a volume clips that you notice would be good for a particular purpose later, mark them with a keyword.

Then create a Smart Collection that contains clips with your keyword.

  • How can I create individual clips after doing DV start/stop locate?

I know how to take a clip and have FCE mark the DV start/stop points, but is there a way to have FCE then automatically make individual clips based on the DV in/out points?

Yes, that's actually what is 'behind the scene' in each subclip. This is actually a very powerful thing, as you will discover as you gain experience editing.
Yes, they act as if they are completely independent of each other, you can apply further edits, filters, effects etc. to each subclip individually.
Switching from iMovie to FCE takes some adjustment, that's for sure. But FCE is much much more capable than iMovie.
I encourage you to get a copy of Tom Wolsky's excellent book - Final Cut Express 2 Editing Workshop. It's the best thing available to get you started with FCE ... and it includes a DVD where he shows you the differences between using iMovie and FCE. Tom has also recently produced an FCE training DVD, too, Final Cut Express HD Made Easy, and he is an active participant in this forum.

  • How can I save individual songs to one album?

I have an album and the  iTunes split it into separate songs. How do I save them back to one album?
Please help its keep happening. I installed and reinstalled I tunes several times, but no change.

This is a tagging issue and usually happens when songs on the album have different artists.
Setting a common Album Artist will usually correct this.
If it does not then make sure all the other fields for the songs on the album are the same, obviously, except for title and track number.
You can edit the tag info here:
In iTunes, Right-click on a song > Get Info > Info

  • How can I export individual clips from iMovie?

I have 250 clips, but I want to export them ALL as individual clips, and not as a movie.  I have taken a lot of time to select these clips from many hours of video.  And I now need to get these clips to a post-production person for editing.  I wish to export them all as indivudual clips, and maintaining the original order.
I can only find the way to export either a single clip, or an entire movie.
Can anyone help me on this Thanksgiving morning??
    THANKS!
    Jim

sorry I should have been a bit clearer.
There are three sections I wish to export individually from the one sequence.
I worked out that I could export multiple sequences within the same project, which is fine... but the ability to export separate sections from one sequence would be very useful...
    Cheers,
And thanks again for your help.

  • How can I save individual merged records automatically in seperate folder?

I have several hundred records to pull in via a mailmerge.
one record per page and one per document.
I can do the merge fine, however at present it just keeps all of the records open until I save them which means I can only do these in batches else indesign crashes.
Is there a way I can get indesign to automatically save each individually merged record into a seperate folder? Ideally naming the saved document after two of the fields so the naming convention would be <<id>>-<<name>>
I've seen some stuff about scripting being available to indesign and I don't mind doing the reading and putting in the work to make this happen  - Can anyone point me in the direction of any scripting for indesign quickstart type guides or offer up any other suggestion of how the above may be achieved.
    Many Thanks

There are a couple of ways that this could be done but it involves scripts. See the following adobe forum posts:

  • How do you save individual pages in a template

If I create a template it gives me an option of how many pages to capture. Capturing three pages then gives me one item in the menu for managing pages. If I save this as a template when it opens I get three pages.
What I need in the template is three individual pages, say cover, text 1 and text 2, all selectable from the pages menu - just the way the apple templates appear.
The user manual gives instructions about deleting pages if you only want them to appear in the submenu but in spite of a number of experiments I've failed to make this work. Any deletions, after capturing a page but before saving the template simply lose the page.
Can any one provide any insights into how to create templates with a list of pages.
I've posted a related question on section breaks that may form part of the solution.
Any help would be much appreciated.

To capture individual pages you need to put a section break at the beginning of each page. Then follow the instructions in the help menu. (See your other post for details.)

  • How do I save individual tracks in Audition 1.5

OK ... here's the problem. I import a very long clip -- the whole thing is one track. I want to break it down into separate tracks. I know that in the Multitrack window I can split the clip and drag the new section(s) down onto another track. But in the Edit View, it still shows as just a single clip. The manual tells me that I have to "mix down" in order to bring the tracks in the CD Project. However, when I do that, all the tracks mix down to one single track again.
So the question is, once I've created the separate tracks in the Multitrack pane, how do I bring them into the CD project pane while still keeping them as separate tracks?
    -- Ben Martin

AFAIK there's only one way to do this - and that's to highlight the section that you want from your track (make sure it's the active track, in other words, the track has to be highlighted too), right-click and select 'mix down to file'. What will happen then is that just the selection you made will be mixed down to EV, and that's what you save. This will initially show up as a separate file in the files list called 'mixdown*' and the * will disappear when you save and rename it. And it's this file that you use in the CD project file. Just do this for each separate track, and you're done.

  • How do I save a clipping path in Photoshop so that Quark gives me the option to change the path opti

I created a clipping path on a photo, clipping out a person's head so that I can have the person's head show up over the masthead on a cover.
But when I save the photo in Photoshop and then import it into Quark, the option where it says I can change the clipping options in Quark is greyed out.
This is what it says to possibly fix it on the Quark help page:
"You may want to choose "None" from the Clipping path pop-up menu when you save the image from Adobe Photoshop, so you can specify which path to use as the clipping path when you import the image into QuarkXPress. Or, you may want to choose a path from the Clipping path pop-up menu, so you can be sure only that path will be used to clip the image."
I don't understand what that refers to....I can't find anything like that in the Photoshop options.
My goal is to have the person's head over the text, with the rest of the photo still retained in the background. As it is now, I just get an import of the clipping path alone, with Quark substituting the background part of the photo with a white box.
    Thanks!

  • How can I save captured clips to hard disk using the actual video recorded date, not the date I transferred it?

When using Batch capture in AP5.5, the clips are saved to hard disk using the capture date as the Created Date and Modified Date.  How do I configure Premier to use the actual clips recorded date (Meta Data Basic/Date Created) so that I can view them in Windows folders and other applications based on the date the video was recorded, not when I imported it.

AFAIK, there's no way to do that with Premiere Pro.  You can probably find a utility on the Internet that will change the dates for you after the fact.

  • How to save a clip with a transparent background?

How do i save a clip with a transparent background to export to quicktime and then be able to import it back into my timeline and have it be able to overlay ontop of another clip? Transparent clip is for lower third

For transparency to work, you need to save it in a format that has an alpha channel. Not sure if FCE supports the Animation codec but if it does you'll want your material as "millions of colors +". The "+" means Alpha.

  • Save independent clips from main capture

    Hello there,
I have just captured all of my video with Final Cut Pro, but now I would like to go through the material and select the "best off". I would like to create independent clips, that I can use later on for my project, which will allow me to get reed of garbage. How can I save independent clips, from my main 2 hour captured file?
    Thank you

I am able to export it by setting my cursor at the end and beggining of the clip, selecting the clip, to then export it as a Quick Time Movie, on a folder so I can use it later on.
Bad idea. Doing this you lose all vital clip information, including source timecode and reel name. If you lost your media drives (not uncommon) then re-building the cut would be VERY time consuming...if you could even do it. With reel number and timecode, simply recapturing the footage would rebuild the cut, if you kept the project file.
What you should do is subclip your captured file, make those subclips independent clips, then either use the MM to copy them as separate files, or manage them as separate clips so that you can recapture them properly.

  • How do I save clips individually

I'm somewhat new to GB, so this should be an easy one. I started working on a project, then decided that since I'll be importing many clips into a Final Cut Project, that I want all my clips to be saved/stored individually. I checked the package contents of my GB project, but didn't see them there. Is there any easy way to save each clip separately?
