How do I save markers in an mp3?

I have the "save extra non-audio information" checked.  It will save markers in a .wav, but not an mp3.  How do I get it to save markers in an mp3?
I'm using Audition 2.0 build 5306.2 [Audition\2.0] on an hpe-447C w/Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit Service Pack 1.
Thanks.

Well, I must disagree with both of you.
What? These are facts I'm talking about, not opinions. And I am simply agreeing with their argument about the purpose of the format.
As someone who voices long scripts and works almost exclusively with mp3, saving markers would allow for much easier editing when I don't have time to do it immediately after recording.  I realize saving the file as a wav first is a work-around for this, but this is just one more step.
Well, you've got this completely wrong, I'm afraid. And that's not an opinion, either.
If you record in Audition, essentially you are recording the highest quality signal you can within the software -  it's already in the wav format. When you save it as an MP3, you are throwing away detail that your mic picked up, you recorded, and that's already there. What's even worse is that then you are opening this MP3 for editing. This decodes your MP3 back to a wav file (only of significantly lower quality) because that's the internal format - you edit it and then re-encode it back to an MP3 again. You have now doubly compounded your original felony, and I bet it sounds dreadful - re-encoding is the ultimate no-no with compressed formats.
Your correct workflow is to record, mark the file and save it as a wav file with the additional metadata saved. This retains the quality of the recording. If you are worried about not having to re-record any of it, then make a copy of your original, and edit that copy. When you have finished doing this, you can make a distribution copy as an MP3 if you want - that's what it's intended for.
Are you using the wrong product? Probably not. Are you using it in a non-optimal way? Almost certainly. I've been recording speech and music for a living for well over 40 years, and I wouldn't dream of doing it the way you are.
Seems that adding the function of saving markers in mp3's wouldn't be that big of deal...but I'm not too smart in that area.
Clearly.

  • How do I save markers to an MP3 file? Need help asap.

I add the markers to my wav file and save the wav file as my master. Then I save the wav file with the markers as an MP3 file. However, when I open up the MP3 file, there are no markers. I need the tracks to be on the MP3 file for digital downloads. how do I add markers on  an MP3 file so I can either
use that file to have as a digital download and/or burn a CD. Either way I use the file, I need to have the markers on the MP3 file. I really need help with this. I am working on a project that is time sensitive. Anyone that can help me would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

    No.
I've reread portions of the manual and it's kind of coufusing, but I think I figured it out
The manual states in order to save markers, you have to save non-audio data with the file. It also states it saves this as XMP info in an mp3.
I don't think the markers are a datatype that get exported with XMP info, at least from what I can tell becuase I have been unable to save an mp3 with the markers.
But, let's sidestep that. Right now, this isn't your issue. Your issue is you want to preserve track markings so when people download this mp3, they can listen to it as "tracks" rather than a continious MP3. The problem is not all mp3 software supports it, in fact, everything that does has it bolted on. So only a small percentage of people downloading the mp3 will be able to actually use that function. foobar2000 and winamp users, yeah, they could deal with an mp3 using an embedded cue....if you embedded the cuesheet as it required. Windows Media/iTunes people...they have absolutely no support for playing a long mp3 as tracks.
so, to begin with...what you want to do, is "technically impossible". CUE is not supported by id3v2 and is therefore not offically supported. Don't get angry at me, I did not write the mp3 specifications. You'll likely find that even if you do find a solution googling "embed cuesheet mp3", the results won't work the way you want or be a method thats universal. Regardless of how you do this....audition is not going to embed markers when you save as mp3. You'd have to export the markers to a cue-sheet somehow (which I haven't figured out how to do in audition because it appears it doesn't) and use an external program to embed them...or distribute the cue file with the mp3. milage will vary, majority of users probably wouldn't be able to make use of it.
The OTHER alternative...which is probably less supported than embedding a cue sheet to an mp3, is you CAN maintain makers and have a layer-3 bitstream...but you have to save the file as a .wav using an ACM WAV and use a layer 3 codec. Technically, you're creating a wav, but since wav can work technically as a container format, the audio content is mpeg layer 3...but, again....since things like Media Player or iTunes or even Winamp don't pay attention to them as they're extra information in the WAV header, this still doesn't give you the track-split function you're looking for.
there have only been loose standards defined by developers and users for what you want to do. while there are "open" ways of doing it, it's never gained much support.
the only way you can guarntee you can distrubte track'd mp3's is to split thing in to seperate files to begin with.
    sorry.

  • How do I save markers?

Ok for the life of me I can't understand how am I supposed to save markers in STP?
I open an audio file then insert markers using "M" on my keyboard, I then click save and exit and when I come back the markers are gone? Is this a bad joke.
Can someone just please give me the short solution instead of me having to hack through the manual.
    Thanks.

Are you trying to save the markers in an AIFF or WAV file, or are you saving the markers in a STMP or STAP file? Markers only work in STMP or STAP files.
It's pretty easy to select the Help menu and type the work "marker" in the search field, fwiw.

  • How do you save Markers in Audition 1.0?

Everytime I hit F8 to place a marker in the Edit View, then close out the file, my markers are missing upon re-opening the file.  This has to be a simple fix, but I'm missing it.

In the Save As box make sure that the "Save extra non-audio information" box is ticked at the bottom left.

  • How do I save or open an mp3 or m4a email attachment to iTunes?

If I receive am mp3 or m4a attachment by email, I'd like to be able to open it in iTunes on my iPad/iPhone and have it saved there permanently.
Is this possible or do I need to connect my iPad/iPhone to my desktop, save the song to iTunes and synch with my device?

Unfortunately it is not possible.  You would need to import the attachment to iTunes on your computer and then Sync it to the devices.
Alternatively you can download a 3rd party Media player that can support the formats, and store the file there permanently. It will not be in your library, but it will be saved on your device. (iPhone or iPad)

  • How do I save an MP3 into iTunes using an iPad?

I'm using an iPad 1 and there's an MP3 on a web site I like. How can I save it to iTunes?

i have some more info I can add to my problem
if I login to the podcast website from a windows7 pc using firefox, and I try to download the MP3 I can make two choices. I can click on the link to listen to the podcast in the broswer. Or I can right click and select "save link as" to save the MP3 locally.
    the link is.   http://www.jimrome.com/member/stream-link?stream=2011-04-22&site=jimrome&type=download_show&clips=1
If i chose to "save link as" it will direct me to the .MP3 file to download.  And if I do this on my BB Torch it will do a similar thing. It will ask me if I want to play or save the .mp3 file.
but if I navigate to that linkk with my playbook, and I hold over the link and select "Save link as". It doesn't save the .mp3 file.  it only saves the link ...."http://www.jimrome.com/member/stream-link?stream=2011-04-22&site=jimrome&type=download_show&clips=1"
so on my playbook, my only option is to stream the file, because even if I stream the mp3 it will play in a new tab. but I will still have no option to save it.
hope that helps..  please let me know if there is a work around.
    thanks

  • How do I save to mixdown in mono, 0 db reduction in volume, in 64 bps mp3? Sounds simple, but none of the support staff has been able to do it.

How do I save to mixdown in mono, 0 db reduction in volume, (Same volume level as in the files-no -3db reduction) in 64 bps mp3? Sounds simple, but none of the support staff has been able to do it.

Several solutions to this problem.  I believe we may have discussed this over the support e-mail, but I'll share it again here so that it can help others as well.
First, as I discussed in the e-mail, Audition defaults to support Pan Law which prevents content mixed to the center of a Stereo field from being louder than the same content panned far left or right.  This provides a -3dB drop to center content by default, but you can disable this completely by entering Preferences > Multitrack and setting the Default Panning Mode to Left/Right Cut (Logarithmic)
Now, when you create a new Multitrack session, there is an option to specify the Master channelization.  Here, you can select Mono, Stereo, or 5.1 and this will be the default channelization mode for a basic mixdown operation regardless of your clip content, though can be overridden when exporting a session mixdown.
Next, if you just choose the menu item Multitrack > Mixdown Session to New File... it will always default to the Master channelization.  This command does not write to disk, it is a preview or pre-processing step.  If you wish to export your multitrack session mixdown directly to disk, in your desired channelization and file format, please use the command File > Export > Multitrack Mixdown > Entire Session...  You will then have the complete set of output options, including the option to output at any channelization you like and the format you prefer.
Here, I've disabled the default 5.1 output and selected a Mono mixdown instead.
I've now changed the file format settings as well to MP3, 64K.
With most of these configuration details, you should only need to set them once and these will remain the defaults for any subsequent projects, unless modified again.  The Export Multitrack Mixdown dialog will reset the Mixdown options to match the default output, and the MP3 settings may update to reflect the kBps setting nearest your session sample rate.

  • How can you create a voice recording and save it as an mp3?

I want to create a voice recording and save it as an mp3.  How can I do that on the MAC?  Right now I can only think of recording the voice in iMovie, but it does not have a choice to save as an mp3.

Rather that iMovie, you may want to check our Audacity.
It's a free, open-source audio editor and recorder.
You can easily save a recording as an MP3.

  • How do I save all mp3 files as an attachable file in text messaging on a G'z One Commando? Some mp3 save as these types of files but I don't how or what I do differently.

How do I save all mp3 files as an attachable audio file in text messaging on a G'z One Commando? Some mp3 save as these types of files but I don't how or what I do differently.

In summary, it sounds to me as though the Mac concept of "hidden extension per file" isn't embraced at all by Photoshop.
So assuming the extension is always visible, what is the easiest way do each of the following (ignoring issues with integration with other apps):
    1.  Save a JPEG as:  abc.jpg
    2.  Save a JPEG as:  abc
    3.  Save a JPEG as:  abc.
    4.  Save a JPEG as:  abc.xxx
Since it seems to me we still haven't nailed down whether there's a disparity between how this works on Photoshop for Mac vs. PC, I'll answer the above questions for PC:
    1.  File - Save As, choose Format: JPEG, type (replace filename with):  abc
    2.  No difference than 3 on a PC.
    3.  File - Save As, choose Format: JPEG, type:  abc.
    4.  File - Save As, choose Format: JPEG, type:  abc.xxx
How is it different from the above on a Mac?
Is there something more complex, such as the sequence of operations, or another system setting, that I didn't cover here?  I normally always keep Explorer set so that file extensions are visible (it's global on a PC).

From Mail, you cannot. You must sync music to your Music app through iTunes. Though there are other options on what you can do with it if other mp3 registered apps are installed on your iPad.

how can I save a GarageBand file it as an MP3 directly into an iPad

    What proprietary format?
AAC stands for Advanced Audio Codec-it was made by the same people who made mp3, it is designed to be a more feature rich technologically update to the obsolete mp3 format. It is an industry standard.
To the OP-only solution I have seen is import it into iTunes on a pc, convert to mp3 there.

Why won't the 'save as type' section list .pdf or MP3 to save a PDF or MP3 file but instead always says 'save as type' -- 'all files "."'. How can I get rid of the 'all files'.?
