Hello Mama1936
You can transfer any purchased content that is on that iPod by first turning off automatic syncing when a device is plugged. Check out the first or second article depending on the type of computer you have. Once that is done, then you can plug in your iPod and then transfer any purchased content that is on the iPod.

  • How do I save music from iPod???

If i have to restore my iPod and i want to save all the music on it... how do i save that music so that i can restore it and then put my music back on to it???

Put it back in iTunes, there is a manual method of accessing the iPod's hard drive and copying songs back to iTunes on Windows posted in this thread: MacMuse - iPod to iTunes
If you prefer something more automated then there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod, this is just a selection. Have a look at the web pages and documentation for these, they are generally quite straightforward. As iTunes 7 is just out some of these may not have caught up with it yet though I haven't experienced any problems with the Mac software I use.

There is also a new function in iTunes 7 under File, "Transfer Purchases from iPod" which transfers iTMS purchases. A paragraph on it has been added to this article: How to use your iPod to move your music to a new computer
You should also consider making a proper back up of all your music from your computer. Forum member Buegie has compiled a very extensive procedure for backing up your music which you'll find at this link: Backing up iTunes

  • How do I transfer music from ipod to computer manually without downloading software?

OK, I've tried everything, looked everywhere, and from what I've looked up, it seems itunes intentionally makes it next to impossible to do it, but there was this one time, where I accessed my kindle fire music folder, and dragged and dropped the music into there and it transferred to the kindle fire.  Then from there I would transfer the kindle music to itunes.  But now it's not working?  What happened?  I accessed the kindle music folder, and couldn't transfer the songs from my ipod to there like usual.  What happened?  And is there ANY other way i can transfer ipod touch songs to my computer, without downloading software?  I've tried looking for "ipod control" folder like people usually tell me to do, but it's not there, even if I click show hidden files and folders. Please help, emphasis on explanation as to why my ipod wont transfer music to my kindle's music folder anymore.  IT WORKED BEFORE.THANK YOU FOR ALL KIND REPLIES.  AND NO, THE MUSIC WAS NOT PURCHASED ON ITUNES SO I CAN'T TRANSFER IT THAT WAY.

Oh, right, I know what you're saying. That *****, itunes,,, do better!  There is no reason why we shouldn't be able to transfer our music directly to our computer!  Regardless of copyright crap!  Wow, tha *****. Well, thanks again lassssssssssssssssssssssssssss, you're a big help

  • How do I transfer music from ipod to computer?

I know it sounds like a ridiculously simple question, but I have music in my ipod that I would like to transfer to my computer (Windows XP) so I would be able to burn them onto a CD. How do I do that? I appreciate any help!

If you have any iTMS purchases the transfer of purchased content from the iPod to authorised computers was introduced with iTunes 7. A paragraph on it has been added to this article: Transfer iTunes Store purchases using iPod
The transfer of non iTMS content such as songs imported from CD is designed by default to be one way from iTunes to iPod. However there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod. You'll find that they have varying degrees of functionality and some will transfer movies, videos, photos, podcasts and games as well. Have a look at the web pages and documentation, this is just a small selection of what's available, they are generally quite straightforward. You can also read reviews of some of them here: Wired News - Rescue Your Stranded Tunes

There is also a manual method of accessing the iPod's hard drive and copying songs back to iTunes on Windows or a Mac. The procedure is a bit involved and won't recover playlists but if you're interested it's available at this link: Two-way Street: Moving Music Off the iPod

  • How do i transfer photos and music from ipod to computer?

    Hi everyone,
a couple of weeks ago my computer crashed and i lost everything, i don't know how to put the music and photos that are on my ipod back onto my computer, can anyone help me? i am especially bothered about the photos, as they are the only copy of them that i have (the other copy was on my computer) and they are quite sentimental, i really don't want to lose them! I have seen other people say to plug in the ipod, go to my computer and unhide the music and photos, i think i have found the music but it's all under weird names and my computer won't let me open it. With the photos, all that i can find is two folders called 'photo database' and 'thumbs', but again, i can't open them, i just get a message up saying 'windows cannot open this file' and 'windows needs to know where this file was made before it can open it.' if anybody can help me then it would be much appriciated, i really don't want to lose my stuff. many thanks in advance x

These links will give you several methods of recovering whatever songs remain on your iPod; some free, some third-party software, some more comprehensive for restoring Playlists, Ratings, Play Counts, etc. Read them and their associated links before deciding on a strategy that works for you. There are many various third-party software programs that will offer a more robust process, or an easier GUI. Do a Google search for them if the links below leave you wanting…
Don King Resurrected: Deleted files from hard drive (free user steps – music recovery only)
MacMuse: Computer Crashed (free user steps – music recovery only)
Copying music from iPod to computer (a primer on various methods and software)
Copying Songs from Your iPod to a Mac or PC (resource for 3rd party software)
    iPodRip Software
    PodUtil Software
    YamiPod Software (Mac & Windows)
    PodPlus Software (Windows)
    TuneJack Software (Windows)
Senuti (Mac OS X v10.3 or higher Recovery Utility)
XPlay (Windows software For Music Recovery &/or Cross-Platform Functionality)
XPlay Photo Browser (For recovering Photos)
Extremely Simple Method: (just to recover the song files – may not work on a Mac)
    1 - Open iTunes
    2 - Edit=>Preferences=>’Advanced/General’ tab
2a --- Select ‘Copy files to iTunes Music folder when adding to library’: checked
2b --- Select ‘Keep iTunes Music folder organized’: checked
2c --- Click OK to store changes
3 - Attach your iPod to the PC and hold down the ‘Shift+Ctrl’ keys until the iPod is fully recognized (this will defeat the auto-sync process)
4 - If you get a dialog box to link the Library, decline this option
5 - Within iTunes: Edit=>Preferences=>’iPod’ tab: switch iPod to manual transfer – click ‘OK’
    6 – File=>Add Folder
7 - Browse to and open ‘My Computer’ (click on the ‘+’) and select the iPod
    8 - Click OK
9 - The music files should start to transfer back into iTunes
9a –- This will take some time depending on your PC and the amount of songs on the iPod
No Playlists, or Ratings, Last Played, & Play Count attributes will be transferred from the iPod to iTunes using this method.
If you have problems with seeing the iPod within 'My Computer', try switching your update method to 'manual' , detach the iPod, then reconnect the iPod to the PC.
After recovering your song files, strongly consider developing a thorough backup strategy for just this type of situation (and many other potential disasters).
You need at least two full sets of your music, not including what is on the iPod:
-- One full set on the PC within iTunes (on internal HD or ExHD)
-- One full set on an separate external backup medium (CD/DVD/ExHD/other)
-- One (full or partial) set on the iPod
Music files on just the iPod and only one other medium is not considered having any backup.
If you cannot store your complete music files on the computer’s internal HD, then create and maintain at least two external sets (any multiple combinations of ExHDs, DVDs, CDs).
Backup both the music files and the Library database file (iTunes Library.itl). What are the iTunes Library files?
Here is a post on developing a thorough backup strategy:

You can't transfer directly from iPod to iPod.
But it's easy if you are using the sync setting to put music on your first iPod. You just connect the second iPod to your Mac and sync it to your iTunes library, like you did with the first one.
If you are using the +manually manage music+ setting AND the music on the first iPod is NOT in your iTunes library (only on the iPod), then it is not so easy. You need to use a third party utility first, such as Senuti or YamiPod
    http://www.fadingred.com/senuti/
    http://www.yamipod.com/main/modules/home/
to transfer your music files from the first iPod to the iMac. Put the music into your iTunes library. Sync the second iPod to the iTunes library (or transfer manually if you don't want to use sync for some reason).
