How do I SAVE or LOCK a specific backup in TimeMachine--

I have a specific backup on my timemachine that I want to protect from being erased or copied over. I've looked in the "genius" book and SL for Idiiots and all Mac documentation but nothing gives me a clue that it is even do-able, let alone how to do it! Thanx

Yes, TM will, eventually, delete it's copies of things that are *no longer on your system.* Depending on how long they were there, and how often you've backed-up, they may be kept for as little as 24 hours or as long as there's room on your system. If they were there for at least a week, and you were doing regular backups during that time, they'll be kept as long as there's room.
So if there's room, TM will keep things for months or longer. If you screw something up and don't realize it for several months, you probably won't ever notice it!
How large is your TM drive vs. the size of what it's backing-up? If it's 2-3 times, there's probably plenty of room.

Open the email, do a save as have it save to the location you want from the drop down menu (You could select desktop and then drag it into a folder in documents) and click save as a .rtf.
Or you can copy and paste into a document (Word, Pages, Text Edit...) Make a folder and put it in docs.

Give a specific example of what you are doing. The only way that I can think of to save a document that you fill out online would be to copy and paste the document into a word processing app - unless the site has some means of saving the document as a PDF file.

I am using a magnetic field sensor on a mine detector. Lets say the minedetector sweeps the sector for 10 secs. i want your help on the following
1) how do i save the waveform chart for the whole ten sec. All i know is that i came across an example where i can save the chart at a specific point as a jpg. But that example is also for a graph. for the chart i suppose we need to change the array in some way.
2) If i save the value of magnetic field obtained at every sample in an array, can i save it as an excel file. how do i do that.

Whenever I'm asked to reproduce chart data, I use Excel. In other words, your #2. The charts are graphical items floating along on the screen. Once they are gone, they are gone. You could save the chart to jpg everytime the chart gets full, then string it together later, but why? The data are the data, not the chart.
The easiest way to save an array for Excel is to simply write the data to a text file, and have LabVIEW save the file as a *.csv file. This file can then be directly opened in Excel, and then plotted.
The other method would be to have LabVIEW save directly to an Excel worksheet. There are lots of examples of that on the forum.

Would suggest that you make a Bootable Clone of your Drive...
By far the easiest way to make such a Backup, is to use something like
SuperDuper http://www.shirt-pocket.com/
or CCC http://www.bombich.com/
That way, should anything untoward happen...
You will NOT LOSE ANYTHING.
(Get an EHD that is at least equal to your current Drive...)

There is a somewhat clunky way to do it. First, go into your mail (Settings - Mail/Contacts/Calendars) and turn off (dont' disable) any accounts you don't want to be seen. Then go into Restrictions - Accounts and select "Don't Allow Changes." This will prevent anyone from turning the mail back on. When you're ready to turn it back on, go into Restrictions and either Disable Restrictions or go into Accounts and select Allow Changes.

Meanwhile, you could always copy the message you want to save (tap and hold the message, select Copy) and save it to Notes or somewhere else.

You would use "Save" from the File menu and then give it a name.
If you are trying to make a copy of an existing file and want to give it a new name, you would use "Save As". But, if you are using one of Apple's latest applications, the ones that have "Duplicate" instead of "Save As" in the File menu, you have to Duplicate first then you save the duplicated file. When you save it the first time, you can name it whatever you want.

I have attached two VIs.
The first one "Ecriture fichier tableau" (writer) permits to collect all control's values in an array (dbl) and to save it as .bin file. You had to convert variant type into dbl type. (You can do the same with string type if you wish. You will save datas as .txt file for example)
The second VI "Lecture tableau fichier" (reader) permits to retrieve all the datas you saved in the file.

There is no 'Save as' in Lion. If it's a new document then select File -> Save will bring up a standard 'Save' dialog box which will allow you to specify the location. Otherwise select File -> Duplicate and then save the duplicate.
