How do I save pictures to an external hard drive that can be opened by a pc?

I have saved all of my pictures from my macbook pro on an external hard drive but my PC does not even show the hard drive when I plug it in to transfer the pictures over... any ideas here?
Thanks

I formatted a thumb drive as ExFAT to share data.  I found that when I formatted ExFAT using the Mac, the PC thought the drive unformatted.  When I formatted ExFAT in the PC, the MAC read/wrote it without issue -- go figure!

I am travelling with my IPAD and I want to transfer pictures off my external hard drive that I used with my Dell laptop on to my Ipad before I leave so I can show these pictures to my friend,

    Sync them via iTunes.
Note: Photos synced via iTunes sync can only be removed via iTunes sync.
    iTunes: Syncing photos
Read the To sync photos from a folder on your computer to your device section and navigate to the folder containing the photos on the external drive.

Stop using the drive immediately, un plug it.
Buy a copy of ProSoft DataRescue 4 and use it to search for deleted files.

  • How do I retrieve pictures from my external hard drive?

Took my mac in for repair and it was scrubbed clean, fortunatly everything was backed up to an external hard drive (GDrive mobile) how do I retrieve all my photos and put them back into iPhoto?

If your hard drive can be detected and shows up as a drive letter in my computer but you can't access your files, then you can recover your data off it with data recovery software easily. This way is the easiest and the most inexpensive way to recover your data.If you bring it to a computer repair shop that is available for data recovery servise, they will cost you $500-1000 or more.Hmm, a lot of money.
I managed to recover data from crashed hard drive with Tenorshare Data Recovery. If needed, you can download it and scan your hard drive for free to preview whether your data can be recovered. It will show you thumbnails for recoverable pictures.

  • How do I save iMovies onto an external hard drive?

I have several hours of home movies on i movie that i would like to now back up onto my external hard drive, but when I am on the desktop and try to drag the movies into the hard drive they bounce back & cut and paste does not work either.... what am I missing??

And assuming dwb is right and the drive IS formatted with NTFS (which is my suspicion as well) you have several options. You could reformat the drive with FAT or Mac OS Extended, which the Mac could write to, but would also erase all files currently on the external drive. OR you could download an NTFS driver such as Paragon which should enable your Mac to write to an NTFS drive without reformatting.

  • How to transfer my ITunes library from External Hard Drive to Mac Book Pro

I recently had an issue with my Mac Book(OS X Yosemite)  Had to take it to the store and they fixed it (replaced graphics mother board or something like that) Before that  I backed up the whole laptop on an external hard drive. When I connect the external hard drive I can open all my files, not sure how to transfer it, I see the External hard drive and can drag it but where do i drag it because on my Mac Book I can't  find Music. Should I drag it to the desktop and then drag it to the music when I disconnect the external ? Thanks

Choose Home from the Finder's Go menu, double-click the Music item, and drag it there.

  • How do I back up ipad to external hard drive?

I want to back up my IPad (without the cloud) to an external hard drive that also will back up my IMac using Time Machine. How can I do this? Thanks!!

There are some wireless external hard drives that can be used with the iPad.
The Kingston Wi-Drive, which costs $50 for the 16 Gigabyte, and then $30 more for every 16 gigs more. It works by you turning it on and then accessing the files on it from an app that you download on your iDevice. You can access music, movies, and other stuff. No connections or anything, it works like a WiFi connection, you connect to it from the setting on the iPad under wireless networks.
Then there is the Seagate GoFlex, which some would recommend over the Wi-Drive. But this one costs $199 and had 500 Gigabytes of storage. It works the sameway as the Kingston: no wires, runs over its wireless connection. You can actually fit up to 300 HD movies on it.
    Another option:

  • Buying an external hard drive that works on both!

I am looking to buy and external hard drive that can be accessed by my pc and mac book pro. Using mac drive or the like is not an option. This is because I am looking to go over to a mac full time. At we have a windows network. The techies won't install mac drive, so I need one that works on both.
    Do they exist?
I had bought a fujitsu. Formatted it on the macbook and doesn't work on the school network. Is there anything I can do with that so it can be accessed by both?

I use Mac OS X (10.6) as my primary OS with Windows 7 under Boot Camp for games. Pretty much any USB drive will do, I have WD Elements 500GB 3.5in one partitioned approximately 300/200 between HFS (the partition scheme for Mac OS) and NTFS. This allows me to do my Time Machine backups and still have a usable amount of extra storage for windows. Under Snow Leopard I can read both partitions from windows, no problem, but beware, in my experience, Mac OS won't see the windows partition on the external drive if you're using one of the partitions for Time Machine.
    Hope this helps,

  • Can some please provide instructions on how to import an iPhoto library from an old Mac to a new Mac without getting a bunch of duplicates?  I tried transferring my pictures using an external hard drive and then copying it to the Pictures folder on my Mac

Can someone please provide instructions on how to import an iPhoto library from an old Mac to a new Mac without getting a bunch of duplicates?  I tried transferring my pictures using an external hard drive and then copying it to the Pictures folder on my new Mac.  I ended up getting a bunch of duplicates. My old Mac has an older version of iPhoto while the new Mac has iPhoto '11.  Is that the cause of the problem?  Please advise.  Thanks.

Simply copy the iPhoto Library from the Pictures Folder on the old Machine to the Pictures Folder on the new Machine.
    Then launch iPhoto. That's it.
This moves photos, events, albums, books, keywords, slideshows and everything else.
    Regards
    TD

Switch to the Finder app and open its preferences.
Remove the check mark on the items you don't want displayed in the Sidebar tab.
The originals are not removed from the machine.

  • How do I tell my Mac to automatically save files to an external hard drive instead of the on-board storage?

My question is: how do I make my Mac save file automatically to my external hard drive? I don't want to have a bunch of storage on my computer taken up because I can't save it to my external hard drive. I have an early 2014 MacBook Air 13.3" 128GB hard drive. As you can see I don't have a whole lot of space for files. I would prefer for them to be on the external hard drive. Thanks,

Many applications will remember the last saved folder but some like Microsoft Word will allow you to set a default location.
There is a third party app that you might want to check out called DefaultFolder X. You can set a default folder per application with this app. Has a 30 day demo.
    http://www.stclairsoft.com/DefaultFolderX/
Users with the small drives often put their iPhoto & iTunes Libraries on the external. You can then set the applications to look at the library on the external drive.
    Hope this helps!

  • HT1391 I had all of my music on an external hard drive that failed. I have iTunes Match so all of my music was synced with the "cloud". How do I now download and save all of my music back down on a new external hard drive?

I had all of my music on an external hard drive that crashed. I have iTunes Match so all of my music was synced in the cloud. How do I now re-load my music back down onto a new external hard drive?

    Hey Rbe58!
I believe this question can be answered by the information in the following article:
iTunes 11 for Windows: Access all your music anytime, anywhere with iTunes Match
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ph12492
Play or download songs from iCloud
You can play songs directly from iCloud, or you can download songs so you can play them when you’re not connected to the Internet.
If a song is available in iCloud, it has a Download button next to it.
To play the song, double-click it.
To download the song, click the Download button.
After you download a song to a computer, it remains in the computer’s iTunes library, even if you turn off iTunes Match.
To only display downloaded songs in your iTunes library, choose View > Hide Music in the Cloud. This also hides any previous iTunes Store purchases you haven’t downloaded.
For information about downloading and playing songs on an iOS device, see the documentation for the device.
Thanks for using the Apple Support Communities!
    Cheers,
    Braden

  • Can I save files to the external hard drive if I am time machinging to that hard drive?  Not while time machine is doing it's thing of course, but any other time.

I have a 2 TB Toshiba external hard drive that I want to save files to and also time machine to it (is that called making it a time capsule?).  I want to know if this is possible before I reformat the drive to the 'journaled' format to make it usable for time machining.  And if it is possible, how do I do it?  Just save/transfer stuff to the external hard drive like I normally would or do I have to di something different?  I just can't afford to have all 77 GB of my pictures on my internal hard drive anymore.
Also, I am mainly trying to set up time machine so I can have a backup before I upgrade from Snow Leopard to Mavericks.
    Thank you!

Time capsule is an Apple product, a combination router/HD specific for wireless TimeMachine.
You can use Ext HD for saving files to etc as well
Time Machine needs it own partition and needs to be the first partition on the Harddrive.
Reformatting the drive GUID, extended journeled
    Done through DiskUtility
