How do I save PSD files created in windows so MAC users can open and work

I have been designing photoshop files for sale to photographers online and all of my work has been created in a windows 7 system. I had a photographer contact me saying that the PSD was trouble to open and that the fonts would not work on his MAC computer.
Can someone supply me with information on creating/saving windows PSD files so that a MAC user can open them and also use the fonts I supply with the files.
The files I create are multilayered PSD's and contain fonts for windows PC use and I don't want to exclude MAC users from utilizing my work.
Any help appriciated.

Just save.  There is no difference in files between platforms.
There are some Windows-centric font formats that aren't portable, by any OpenType or TrueType font will be portable between platforms.

I received a psd file created in CS6 for MAC, I am unable to find the layers when I open it in photoshop in Windows. What can i do to edit the files? What can be done so that I can either open and see the layers or how can the sender save it in a way that it doesn't "merge" the layers in some way to just one?

Could try saving as tiff provided layers and transparency are chosen at the time of saving. But it's hard to give a definitive answer as it depends on the final usage. For example PSD's tend to work better in applications like In Design in comparison with tiff.

  • Can files created in Illustrator CS2 & CS2 Photoshop be opened and edited in later program version

I have a question I am hoping someone will answer for me. I am designing images in Illustrator CS2 and Photoshop CS2. They are saved as Jpegs and png files to be opened by clients in their image editing programs, using them to make digital scrapbook pages and and other projects. My clients will most likely be using recent versions of Photoshop Elements and/or recent versions of Photoshop. Will my files open fine in their more recent versions? I have been taught you can work forward (a file created in a old program version will open in a newer version) but not backward (a file created in Photoshop CS6 might not open in a older version of Photoshop). Is this correct? Also, is there anything I need to do to my files so they are compatible with current versions?
    Thank you!
    paper&glue

Yes. They can be opened in later versions or  older versions, because the formats you mention (.JPG and .PNG) are common raster image formats, not native application-specific formats (.ai or .psd).
Be aware, though, because they are both raster image formats, they are more germane to Photoshop than to Illustrator. Illustrator can't really "open" a PNG or a JPEG for editing the way you could edit them in Photoshop (or any other raster image program). Illustrator can import them into an Illustrator file, but that's not the same thing as being able to "open" them in Photoshop and perform local editing (selecting pixels, etc., etc.).
That's true even if the JPEG or PNG was exported from Illustrator. For example, you can draw artwork native to Illustrator using vector paths, and then export a rasterized image of it in JPEG or PNG format. But don't expect someone else using Illustrator to be able to open that JPEG or PNG and still have the native Illustrator paths. They won't.

  • How to save print setup for pdf file so that every user can open and print w/o manually performing?

Can is there a way to configure the print settings (i.e. paper size, orientation, etc.) and save this setting as part of the pdf file? I would like the users of pdf files to be able to open the file and simply print, without having to manually configure the print settings.

Not sure if this will help. I got this information from the built-in help under Acrobat 9.
    Advanced
Lists PDF settings, print dialog presets, and reading options for the document. In the PDF settings for Acrobat, you can set a base Uniform Resource Locator (URL) for web links in the document. Specifying a base URL makes it easy for you to manage web links to other websites. If the URL to the other site changes, you can simply edit the base URL and not have to edit each individual web link that refers to that site. The base URL is not used if a link contains a complete URL address.
You can also associate a catalog index file (PDX) with the PDF. When the PDF is searched with the Search PDF window, all of the PDFs that are indexed by the specified PDX file are also searched.
You can include prepress information, such as trapping, for the document. You can define print presets for a document, which prepopulate the Print dialog box with document-specific values. You can also set reading options that determine how the PDF is read by a screen reader or other assistive device.
    Create print presets
A PDF can contain a set of print presets, a group of document-specific values that is used to set basic print options. By creating a print preset for a document, you can avoid manually setting certain options in the Print dialog box each time you print the document. It’s best to define print settings for a PDF at the time that you create it, but print presets provide a means to add basic print settings to a PDF at any time.
Choose File > Properties, and click the Advanced tab.
In the Print Dialog Presets section, set options and click OK.
The next time you open the Print dialog box, the values will be set to the print preset values. These settings are also used when you print individual documents in a PDF Portfolio.
Note: To retain a print preset for a PDF, you must save the PDF after creating the print preset.
    Print Dialog Presets
    Page Scaling
Prepopulates the Page Scaling option in the Print dialog box with the option you choose:
    Default
Uses the application default setting, which is Shrink To Printable Area.
    None
Prevents automatic scaling to fit the printable area. This setting is useful for preserving the scale of page content in engineering documents, or for ensuring that documents print at a particular point size to be legal.
    DuplexMode
For best results, the selected printer should support duplex printing if you select a duplex option.
    Simplex
Prints on one side of the paper.
    Duplex Flip Long Edge
Prints on both sides of the paper; the paper flips along the long edge.
    Duplex Flip Short Edge
Prints on both sides of the paper; the paper flips along the short edge.
    Paper Source By Page Size
Selects the option by the same name in the Print dialog box. Uses the PDF page size to determine the output tray rather than the page setup option. This option is useful for printing PDFs that contain multiple page sizes on printers that have different-sized output trays.
    Print Page Range
Prepopulates the Pages box in the Print Range section of the Print dialog box with the page ranges you enter here. This setting is useful in a workflow where documents include both instruction pages and legal pages. For example, if pages 1–2 represent instructions for filling out a form, and pages 3–5 represent the form, you can set up your print job to print multiple copies of only the form.
    Number Of Copies
Prepopulates the Copies box in the Print dialog box. Choose a number from 2 to 5, or choose Default to use the application default, which is one copy. This limitation prevents multiple unwanted copies from being printed.
    Thanks.

  • How to import a PSD file into Indesign WITH layers so it can be edited/saved as an InDesign file?

How to import a Photoshop file into Indesign CS6 so that it's layers show in InDesign and it can then be edited/saved as an InDesign file?

    MyTienN wrote:
Someone had mentioned the possibility of saving each individual layer in Photoshop as a png file and importing into Indesign and adjusting it in there
What do you mean by "adjust"? Editing of Photoshop images should be done in Photoshop.
Sure, it's possible to save individual layers from an image in Photoshop as inidvidual files in a variety of formats, but what's the point? You could just as easily import the layered file, then copy/paste it into a new layer for each layer in the image and use layer visibility to control which ones show. I don't think that will do you a lot of good, though, if you use adjustment layers or opacity controls on the layer in Photoshop.

  • How to set permissions for files created by Windows on OS 10.8 volume

I am in process of upgrading from an iMac with OS 10.6 to an iMac with OS 10.8.  In my office network, I store all files on my iMac and let the Windows PCs act as workstations to read/write onto the Mac.  (It's simpler to have all files centralized in one location, and only have to be concerned about backing up one volume.)
When I had OS 10.4 and OS 10.6 any newly created file saved by the Windows PCs onto the Mac could be opened by the Mac.
But with OS 10.8, I can not open newly created files from Windows.  The file permissions for the newly created files from the Windows PCs are:
         PCUser = read/write;  Everyone = no access.
What do I need to do so that newly created files from the Windows PC (currently Windows 7) can be opened by the Mac, without having to use Get Info to reset the permissions each time?

You could try adding this Access Control Entry (ACE) to the folders you let them save to:
    sudo chmod -R +a "accountinggroup allow delete,chown,list,search,add_file,add_subdirectory,delete_child,file_inherit,directory_inherit" /Path/to/topmost/folder
You first need to create a group for all the sharing people you want to have access to that folder, if you don't already have one. In the example, "accountinggroup" is the group, so change that to whatever you want to use.
The ACE allows them full access to the files in the folders. If you want to limit that, remove the option (such as delete).
You create Groups in Users & Groups System Preference just like creating a new user. Just change the account type to Group.
If you want a GUI to do the settings, try Sandbox.  It's got a few glitches in the Interface, but it seems to write the ACL correctly. One glitch is selecting the Group or User. I had just a list of Continuing in the popup menu. I typed in the Group name I wanted and it worked. Some errors pop up as you traverse the file hierarchy, but you can dismiss them.
Here is an old hint, which gives a little background, and some other options: http://hints.macworld.com/article.php?story=20090219133314985
The Server tools would allow you to set this up more easily, but if this is all you need as the server, I don't know if it is worth it.

  • HT4641 How do I save a pages document into a format a pc can open?

How do I save a pages document that a pc can open.  eg jpeg, rtf pdf etc?

I assume you're using Pages on an iOS device since that is the forum you've posted in.
Tap on the wrench/spanner at the upper right & choose Share & Print. From there you can choose to e-mail or save to iTunes & then choose a format such as PDF or Word.
If you should be asking about Pages on a Mac, use File > Export & choose Word or PDF.

  • Create a lightbox of PDFs users can view and or download

I would like to create a directory of PDF's that end users could see a thumbnail image of the first page of the pdf
and when they click on it it would expand to allow them to view the pages of the pdf, and or download them.
I have 40+ years of old newsletters that I am trying to publish.
I was able to make this much easier using iWeb for the Mac, it was just drag & drop a pdf and the
thumbnail was automatically generated - however I can't seem to find a way to do this in Muse.
    My attempt in Muse...
    (what i did in iWeb)

You can use compositions for this , with triggers insert thumbnail images and target containers should include the text content , add another text in same container and link that to pdf document where users can download the file.
    Thanks,

  • How do I save my file using InDesign CS6 so that it can be opened with CS5?

I know other people asked similar questions but I can't find anything that helps me figure my issue out.
Basically, I packaged my file using InDesign CS6. When I sent it to the person it needed to be sent to, she couldn't open it. She was running CS5.
So now I'm trying to REpackage it still using CS6 but when I make an IDML version and try to package it, it says that I need to SAVE it. Well the only options are CS6, which I can't use again, and another IDML version. If I did the IDML it would just save it as another untitled document and then I'd have to start all over.
Actually I just tried that, and InDesign crashed.
    Any suggestions?

    Hey,
There is no such function in InDesign as 'saving to a lower version' (as it is in e.g. FrameMaker). There are interchange formats: obsolete INX (CS2,CS3,CS4) and current IDML (CS5, CS5.5, CS6).
You need to export (ctrl+e) previously saved document into IDML and attach to existing INDD file (Attaching is not necessary as IDML is a self-sufficient file). Also it's a really good idea to attach a PDF file (from CS6) as there might be some differences when opening a IDML from higher file in lower version program.
Final package could look like this:
         Document fonts
         Links
              original file.indd
              original file.idml
              original file.pdf
    best regards

  • .pages file created in Pages for Mac won't open in Pages for iPad

Just created a pages document on my Mac, saved it to my google drive and when attempting to "open in" from my google drive the file won't open in pages for iPhone or iPad (mini).
All versions of Pages are on latest release.
    Messge reads:
    Document can't be imported.
    The file format is invalid.
I download both the mac app and ios app a week ago.
    Thank you for any info!

I've been testing file structures via google drive this morning and have yet to find a solution.
Compressed files will not open in Pages on the ipad and an upload to Google Drive of a .pages document re downloaded to my desktop will no longer open in Pages on the Mac.
Somewhere in the google ecosystem during upload or download / "open in" (on the ipad) the file is being restructured so that it cannot be recognized.
An hour call with the team at Google hasn't supplied an answer yet and they have opened a case file to investigate.
I'll update when I hear back.
    Thanks!

  • Can't open my .psd file using CS4 windows XP & Mac OSX

I am using photoshop CS4 on windows XP I cannot open my file. the message reads: Could not complete your request because the version is not compatible with this version of photoshop.
I did open the file on my mac OSX CS4 as well to try to use some of the fonts installed there. Now the file will not open on either platform. Are there known issues with crossing platforms? I believe the files were always universal before?

    There is normally no problem.
You failed to mention what format the file had.
If fonts are missing, it should still open with an error message about the font.

I need to know how to save everything in the psd so others still can use it.??

    Hi,
If you have photoshop and you are working on it and have used layers , fonts , and other things
Then after completing your work, click save and it will open save Box,
make sure the file format in the box should be PSD and then you may save the file and then you can share with any one.
Any one who has Photoshop will be able to open that file and can edit the layers and fonts..
