How do I scan or import a negative from film with PSE9 on iMAC?
Using Photoshop Elements 9 on an iMAC, is there a scan menu that allows me to scan directly? If not, what format is best to save a scannned negative for importing into Elements?

It depends on your scanner. Generally speaking you will need to install the TWAIN.plugin in order to scan into PSE, if that's possible with your scanner.
Go to Applications➝Adobe Photoshop Elements 9➝Support Files➝Optional Plug- Ins➝ImportModules, and move TWAIN.plugin from there into Applications➝Adobe Photoshop Elements 9➝Support Files➝Plug-Ins➝Import Modules. For the App Store version, go to Applications and Right- click/Control-click Adobe Photoshop Elements 9 Editor and choose Show Package Contents➝Contents and move TWAIN.plugin from Optional Plug-ins➝ImportModules to Plug-ins➝ImportModules. (When you start to move it, you'll see a message warning that plug-ins can't be modified. Click Authenticate and enter your OS X account password, and then you'll be able to move it.)
Tiff is usually available as a format choice, and that's always a good option.
However, having said all this, PSE is not especially gifted at converting color negatives, because you must also eliminate the results of the orange mask on the film negative. If your scanner has a film attachment, look in its regular driver software for a conversion option. This is usually much easier than trying to invert a color neg in PSE.

The guts of my computer were rearranged and I got a new main hard drive. My old one is still in there and I can get stuff from it, but when I go to the Mozilla folder on the old one, I can't figure out if there's anything I can do to get all my bookmarks from that drive to my new one, where Firefox is newly installed.If you open Firefox then Firefox will always use the default profile folder as found via profiles.ini on your system drive.
You either need to import the file in your current default profile or copy the file to your current profile folder while Firefox is closed.
Firefox 3 stores the bookmarks and the browser history in [http://kb.mozillazine.org/places.sqlite places.sqlite] and no longer creates an HTML backup by default.
There are also (five) JSON backups in the bookmarkbackups folder within the Firefox profile folder.
You can either copy the file places.sqlite to your [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_folder_-_Firefox Firefox Profile Folder] or import the most recent JSON backup from the bookmarkbackups folder of that old profile.

I have given up on my dell and bought an iMac 27"... Now how do I transfer my dell iTunes playlists from my dell to my iMac, as they are showing on the iMac when I plug in my iPod but it's not allowing to me to play them as they are shaded? I have also separately transferred all my music via my external drive from my dell to my iMac which is showing in iTunes but won't upload to my iPod... Just to confuse you even more my AppleTV which is linked to my log in email address and home sharing is showing and playing all the playlists I want to see on my iMac... You may have transferred all your songs, but your iPad is seeing the library as a different entity.

you can do this by keeping the external hard drive connected and doing the following
-hold shift key down on computer while opening iTunes and a prompt will appear to choose a library
-select choose library, iTunes should bring up your explorer windows where you can search for the external HD
-after you find the external HD find the iTunes folder you just copied to it
-after opening the iTunes folder look for the file that says iTunes library.itl or if you can't see that extenstion just look for a document looking thing in the iTunes folder that shows up as a database file
-double click the database file and boom iTunes should load your library without having to copy it to the computer
PS: do make sure that if you are going to do it this way, make sure that the external HD is connected at all times, because if you don't then you will get exclamation marks next to your iTunes songs
double PS: if you are unsure how to find out if the iTunes library file is a database file just right click it and choose properties and under the type it should say database file

How do I rename pictures imported into iPhoto from PC?
I have imported all my pictures from my PC hard drive to my (handed down) MAC. Then I did something wrong and had to 'rebuild' my photo library. That is fixed now and I have, folder by folder, imported the pictures from the MAC HD 'picture' folder into iphoto. In the iphoto 'library' there are duplicates, and even triplicates of files. I have gone through the iphoto library and 'moved to trash' (in iphoto, not the computer's trash) the copies I do not want. Will this mess up anything? I haven't 'emptied' the trash, just in case.
Now I want to rename the files in each folder. For ex, all the files in the folder 'budapest' I want to name 'budapest'(as opposed to DS122345 for example). Is this possible? Will it change the file name in the library also? Or only in the specific folder?Welcome to the Apple Discussions.
Don't change anything in the iPhoto Library Folder via the Finder or any other application. iPhoto depends on the structure as well as the contents of this folder. Moving things, renaming things or otherwise making changes will prevent iPhoto from working and could even cause you to damage or lose your photos.
You can add a title to the photos in iPhoto, but there is no way to rename a file in iPhoto. What you can do is export the file - (Share -> Export) and use the Title as filename. It's an option on the Export dialogue.
Filenames mean nothing in iPhoto. They simply don't matter. The key to using the app is to remember that you do all your work in the iPhoto Window and don't access the files in the iPhoto Library Folder ever.
There are many, many ways to access your files in iPhoto:
*For Users of 10.5 and later*
You can use any Open / Attach / Browse dialogue. On the left there's a Media heading, your pics can be accessed there. Command-Click for selecting multiple pics.

Many internet sites such as Flickr and SmugMug have plug-ins for accessing the iPhoto Library. If the site you want to use doesn’t then some, one or any of these will also work:
To upload to a site that does not have an iPhoto Export Plug-in the recommended way is to Select the Pic in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export and export the pic to the desktop, then upload from there. After the upload you can trash the pic on the desktop. It's only a copy and your original is safe in iPhoto.
This is also true for emailing with Web-based services. However, if you're using Gmail you can use iPhoto2GMail
If you use Apple's Mail, Entourage, AOL or Eudora you can email from within iPhoto.
If you use a Cocoa-based Browser such as Safari, you can drag the pics from the iPhoto Window to the Attach window in the browser.
*If you want to access the files with iPhoto not running*:
For users of 10.6 and later:
You can download a free Services component from MacOSXAutomation which will give you access to the iPhoto Library from your Services Menu. Using the Services Preference Pane you can even create a keyboard shortcut for it.
For Users of 10.4 and later:
Create a Media Browser using Automator (takes about 10 seconds) or use this free utility Karelia iMedia Browser
Other options include:
1. *Drag and Drop*: Drag a photo from the iPhoto Window to the desktop, there iPhoto will make a full-sized copy of the pic.
2. *File -> Export*: Select the files in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export. The dialogue will give you various options, including altering the format, naming the files and changing the size. Again, producing a copy.
3. *Show File*: Right- (or Control-) Click on a pic and in the resulting dialogue choose 'Show File'. A Finder window will pop open with the file already selected.

How do I transfer my Quicken 2004 data from old MacBook to new Imac with Mountain Lion
I want to transfer my Quicken 2004 (upgraded to 2006) data from MacBook running OSX 10.5.8 to new Imac running Mountain Lion with Quicken 2007 Lion. How do I do this? I thought from what I've read on line that all I needed to do was upgrade the quicken to 2006 and then the data would be readable by Quicken 2007 Lion. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

It should open in Quicken 2007 for Lion/Mt. Lion

How do I publish calendars imported into iCal from a .ics file to iCloud rather than MobileMe?
Having upgraded my iPhone4 & iPad to iOS5 and my iMac to OSX 10.7.2, I have been having trouble with duplicate calendar entries. Unfortunately, having deleted all but one calendar from the iCloud web interface, I heeded the mistaken advice to disable Calendars in the iCloud preference pane on the iMac and it deleted the calendars that had been removed from iCould from the iMac as well.
A few false starts later, I was able, after disconnecting all my devices from the net, to restore my iCal calendars with TimeMachine from before the chaos started then exported them as .ics files. After rebooting and re-enabling the network to the iMac, iCloud sync purged the restored calendars from iCal again, so I imported the .ics files into iCal and published them again, but the publish options only include MobileMe or a private server, so I chose MobileMe. iCal now happily shows all my calendars on the iMac again, but the iCloud web Calendar app can't see them.
How can I get iCloud to see the published iCal calendars again?Solved, I think! What you need to do is log on to your icloud account at www.icloud.com, go to the calendar screen, click the gearwheel and choose New Calendar. Create a calendar here (ie up on the iCloud) with the name you want for your imported calendar data. Then switch to iCal - you may have to quit and relaunch for the new iCloud calendar to appear (or it will probably do so automatically if you wait long enough) then import the data using File->Import->Import... When you get to the step where it asks which calendar you want to import the data into, choose the new iCloud calendar you've just created. Job done!
To be complete in my answer, I don't think you can exactly do what you want to do, at least not at present. There doesn't seem to be any way to publish a calendar to iCloud after the first time you set up iCloud on your Mac when it exports any calendar data that is on the Mac at that time. I suppose that Apple feel that the way I have described works by exporting from one calendar and importing into another, so no need to provide a way of doing it directly. -

How do I scan a picture in 10.6.8 with an HP 1510xi All-In-One
i am unable to access my HP 1510xi All-In-One to scan a picute, either with Image Capture or Preview. HPs web pages insist the scanning software is built in to Snow Leopard. Image Capture does not find the device and it does not show up in the -File>Import from Scanner- pull-down. Any information tp solve this problem would be appreciated
I don't have Lion, but Image Capture works for my HP PhotoSmart All-in-one.
Often scanning from the scanner is only supported for Windows, not Mac's
VueScan would probably also work, there is a free trial. -

The authentication is going to be an issue for APEX, as you can only specify an SMTP server which does not require authentication. I know - it is a limitation in APEX that I wish to address in APEX 4.0, but that doesn't help you right now. All I can suggest is to stand up a relay between APEX and GMail, have APEX push mail (unauthenticated) the relay and then use the relay to push it to GMail's SMTP.

How can I compile my imported Catalyst project from FB to Android?
Hi Guys,
I started to play with Catalyst (Panini), and I got very excited by it, and wound up building a full very polished app. All the while, I had the idea I would import this into Flash Builder, then compile from there it to run on Android. However, when I actually went to do this, there was no option in FB (Burrito) to build my project as a mobile one. If I create a new project from scratch in FB, then I get the mobile option. But I cant seem to make my imported catalyst app show up any mobile build options as all - only web project ones. Its very frustrating, as I have made standalone test SWFs and dropboxed them onto my phone - and the app works well!!
Im sure I have missed something really simple - can anyone point me in the right direction? I suspect it might have something to do with creating a build profile? Or is there a config I missed in Catalyst? Im no dev-head - so those FB build config screens look a bit intimidating. I might eb able to muddle my way through configuring my Andoind SDK as a build profile - if thats whats I need to do? All help greatly appreciated!

I had sety up all my content in a layered Pshop doc first (As Catalyst doc design reccommends). So I have imported that into Flash and I will re-do the animation in Flash to get it onto the Android platform. Its very disappointing as the Catalyst workflow was really appealing, I found I could focus on the content and not worry too much about doing the wrong thing setting up the interactivity.
Flash Builder on the other hand isnt very Designer freindly at all. Once I got there with my project, I was sweet out of luck getting it anywhere else. Im going to use Flash because it looks like the workflow in the Flash packager for Android is easy to understand and follow. -
