How do I search for an email in time machine??

I want to find a specific email using search terms within time machine. Can this be done? It seem stupid that you have to manually search through all of your folders in every date to find an email that has been backed up.

I once attempted to search TM email backups using Option-F and it locked up TM forcing a hard reboot, but it may have been for other reasons. Searching TM for old emails needs some improvement.

How can you search for outlook email folders quickly?

I am connected to my work outlook email system and within outlook I have circa 500+ folders. From the iPhone you can see all the folders in the email account but the list is (a). expanded {which makes the list huge} and (b). there appears to be no facility to search for a folder.
Normally in other areas of the iphone OS, obviously you pull down (rather than pushing up) and you are shown the search box.
This appears to have been missed in this area of the OS so all you have is your finger to scroll through the list - I am sure that I am not the only one who has found this problem as it is very difficult to use the iphone without a search facility or at least not expanding all the folders.
It takes me 5-10 minutes to find a folder for example...

Do a backup.
Quit Mail.
Go to Finder and select your user/home folder. With that Finder window as the front window, either select Finder/View/Show View options or go command - J. When the View options opens, check ’Show Library Folder’. That should make your user library folder visible in your user/home folder. Go to Library/Containers/com.apple.mail/V2. Enter Time Machine and you can search from there.

Searching for lost files in Time Machine

I save all of the E-mail messages to and from selected friends. I had thousands of such messages in the MAIL folder that was labeled, "Local E-mail (I also have a similar file entitled "Overseas E-mail)". Anyway, one moment, my entire "Local E-mail" file was gone, and I couldn't find it again. I believe this happened when I was deleting some MAIL files that I no longer wanted, and I might have accidentally clicked on the wrong file. I have to assume that all of the missing files can be found in Time Machine, but I have never found searches there to be particularly productive. I would apprecIate ideas on how to go about retrieving the missing file)s).

Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:

Right-click or control-click the highlighted line and select
          Services ▹ Open
from the contextual menu.* A folder should open. Inside it are subfolders representing your Mail accounts. The names refer to the email addresses you use.
Enter Time Machine and scroll back to the snapshot you want. Select the account folders you want and then select Restore ... to... from the action menu (gear icon) in the toolbar of the snapshot window. Restore the folders to the Desktop, not to their original location.
From the Mail menu bar, select
          File ▹ Import Mailboxes...
Choose Apple Mail as the format and import from the mailboxes in the folders you restored to the Desktop. The imported messages will appear in a new mailbox. Move the ones you want to keep wherever you like and delete the rest. Then delete the folders on the Desktop.
*If you don't see the contextual menu item, copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. In the Finder, select
          Go ▹ Go to Folder...
from the menu bar and paste into the box that opens by pressing command-V. You won't see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return.

How can i restore all my emails from time machine after mavericks installation?

ALL of my emails disappeared from all my mailboxes after Mavericks was installed. When I try to restore from external Time Machine from earlier yesterday, for example, nothing happens. Can anyone help me with this huge problem?

I'm probably not savvy enough to figure this out. When I search, e.g. for "Katie" I get to look at several messages where she is cc'd. I also receive messages from "Katie." How do I search for them? I know they are there because I just sent one to trash the other day. I suspect there are a number of them in trash. The only way I seem to be able to access them is to scroll...and that's a bummer.

*Type the words you are looking for such as email the email address
*Hit enter or select an auto completion choice
To narrow search results:
*Click any year, month or day to show only results from that time. Click the looking glass to zoom out.
*If you cannot see the timeline, click the timeline icon in the top right corner.
*Hover over any filter, person, folder, tag, account or mailing list in the left pane to see where in time and on the timeline the messages matching the filter are located.
To exclude persons, folders or other criteria from search results:

Photo albums are not searched by Spotlight Search. Go to Settings > General > Spotlight Search to see and reorder the available search items.

I found the dreaded ! of death, and sadly I verified the tacks indeed are not on my hard drive.
