How do I search inside a community?

I see advice to find "More Options" under "Search". That option is no longer available. Hiw do I search insode the community dealing with Pages for example?

Once you are into the category / community that you want, you will find on the right hand side (just below the search box) another useful set of links in a column called 'More like this'.
Always worth exploring.

In the Search window there is a small black arrow. Click on this and untick Search Entire library. Then search will behave as it used to.

How can I search inside the API about a specific class or method?
For example I know that there a class called Scanner in the package of the java.util , but I can't find it
Also if I want to search about any method, can't I search about the method or the class inside the API by typing its name then find it.
I have already downloaded the JDK6 Doc,and use it

Press "all classes" in the top left frame then search the lower frame for the class name (Ctrl-F and type name in Firefox).
For a method, notice the "Index" link in the right frame -- it takes

How to search inside a category /community?

Hi,
to be honest, I find the support community website one of the worst in terms of usability, especially the search function. What I'm trying to achieve is pretty simple. I want to search a category or community for a keyword, e.g. I want to find discussions about the sidebar in Mail. When I go to OSX and click "Mail & Contacts", I get all discussions displayed, but I can't search or filter them any further. Isn't that possible? There is also no "extended" search where I could limit my search to anything. To me this would be the easiest and natural way to find something...

Thanks for the hint. I've seen that already but unfortunately it didn't help. In theory I can limit the search to a community but there is no "More options" button to click on. There is a text field though, but for that I need to know the community names. For "Aperture" it works, but if I enter "Mail", it still shows results of random communities (iMac, Developers, iPad...).
Nevermind, maybe I cant get along with this because I'm not a fan of the tagging philosophy/method. It never worked for me.

How 2 search inside a PDF document using the firefox internal PDF reader

Cannot find any way to do a text search inside a PDF document when it is displayed by the builtin PDF player in Firefox.
If there is a way, how is it done?
If there isn't a way, it seems an obvious enhancement.

son of a gun. I've always searched in firefox by hitting slash and typing the search term, but that doesn't seem to work in the pdf reader. I guess, if I had searched for key bindings I coulda figured that out for myself.

How do I search threads within a specific support community, i.e.. Apple Remote Desktop?

Very frustrated with new layout of discussion forums...
How do I search key words within threads within a specific support community?
For Example I want to search the phrase 'couldn't collect' within the Apple Remote Desktop community.

My problem with that is if I search the term 'couldn't collect', (in reference to a very specific Error message generated while running a report via Apple Remote Desktop Task Server) I get a slew of useless hits that have either the words 'couldn't' and/or 'collect' or any variation of those words, such as 'collection'.
I'm looking for responses that are very specific to Apple Remote Desktop only. I don't have hours to weed through thousands of responses that have no bearing to that at all.
Searching within specific sub-communities was possible before this new layout. Whatever happened to the booelean searches and searching by phrases and the 'advanced' searches? Do they still exist?

How do i search for a keyword in a document inside CMS?

I have several documents uploaded into CMS.
At runtime, how do i search for a particular keyword in a document which is present inside CMS?

If you're talking about searching based on the content of the documents uploaded, you will definitely need to integrate with a search engine to do periodic indexing of your content. The two most common search engines used with WLP are Autonomy (a light version is included with WLP) and Apache Lucene (free, highly customizable solution).
You should find good docs and articles on dev2dev to get started with either one.

How to disable spotlight searches inside packages

Hi,
I tagged all my files inside my document folder, now I'd like to create and save a smart folder searching for all the untagged files, just in case I create or move a file to that folder without tagging it first.
The problem is that I have several files, which are packages with other files in them (created with Scrivener, Devonthink, OmniOutliner...). These other files aren't tagged (and I don't need nor want to tag them) so they are showed in my spotlight search.
I can't exclude the folders containing these files in spotlight preference, since there are a lot of them and I often create new files of these kinds.
I would like to tell spotlight not to search inside packages. Is that possible?

I have tried two options , but non of them return row.

BLOBs are OPAQUE - they contain binary data, not strings.
You need to convert the BLOB to an appropriate datatype (e.g. CLOB) if you want to treat it as a 'string'. Repost in the other forum and you can get further help with your question.

I'm new to the iPad with the recent purchase of my iPad 3. I enjoy using Apple's Mail app. And I know how to search the contents of "all emails. "But how do I search the text content of a particular email? I am talking about one single email here. Again, I know how to search ALL emails -- I'm not asking about that. How do I search the content of just one email?
This is a logical question, but I'm surprised no one is asking it. Sometimes we receive long emails. And we want to search for a keyword within that given long email. So how do we do that on the iPad with Apple's Mail?

Sorry, but you don't as it's not a feature of the Mail app on iPad, iPhone or iPod Touch.

How to search inside files of serialized objects without load then?

Hi,
I have many files and the content is default serialized objects, and I need to make a search in these files, and just load the files that match a search criteria, exists any tool or framework that can search inside these files in binary form, iow without load one by one and reflect to see if the criteria matches?
for example the search criteria can be: *"ClassName.attribute = 2"* and the search engine will search the binary format and just returns what files match that search criteria.

I dont know if there is a API for this but even if you have one it will still take almost the same time to do the searching because it will still have to read all the files completely.

In Microsoft SharePoint Server 2010 Search, index partitions are groups of query components, each of which holds a subset of the full text index and which return search results to the query originator. Each index partition is associated with a specific property
database containing metadata associated with a specific set of crawled content．
The index server manages the crawling and indexing of SharePoint Server content and maintains the index file. The index service works with the query service to let you search SharePoint Server content.
Every SharePoint Server deployment must have at least one index server. Additional index servers may be necessary as the deployment grows. There can only be one index server per server farm.
If you use the web front end as your query server.  This tells the index server to propagate its index to the WFEs that are set as query servers so that they have a local copy of the index.
When someone does a search (this is done on the WFE), then that WFE will search itself locally instead of going across the network to query the index server.
This increases speed at the time of query, but it of course introduces additional overhead in terms of having multiple full copies of the index on the network and the network demand of propagating those index copies all the time.
If you select the query role on your index server, then the index will not get propagated and all searches will query the index server across the network.

I had posted a question a few months prior and had a response. I'd like to look up that resonse again, but I cannot find it in my history.
The post is only a few months old, but does not show up in the history of my posts (that I can find).
How do I search for ALL of my old posts?

Click Your Stuff > DIscusssions. This should list all the threads you have contributed to, most recently active first, and paged back to your earliest post.
If you use the filter for Open Questions or Answered Questions you should see the threads that you started, still open and marked answered respectively.
If your thread really has disappeared then the usual explanation was that something contentious got added to it and the hosts deceived to evaporate the whole thing.

Searchs in Portal doesn't search inside the document

My searchs in oracle portal doesn't search inside the documents. It only works in txt documents, but not in word docuements, excel documents, etc...

I assume that you are using Oracle (Intermedia) Text functionality. Without this searching within documents is not supported anyway. In which case you need to make sure that your indexes are being syncronized regularly (see the configuration guide on how this is done) and that there are no indexing errors for your DOC index - WWSBR_DOC_CTX_INDX. To determine this, look at the the view CTX_USER_INDEX_ERRORS.
