How do I search or find many items to add to playlist at once in iTunes 11?

Say I want to add every song with the word "drive" in the title to a playlist - how do I do this quickly in iTunes 11?
Yes, I could make a smart playlist, but that's hardly quick.
In previous iTunes versions, I just search my library for "drive" and bang, there they are. Select the ones I want, drag to playlist, done. Now with iTunes 11, I have results constrained to a tiny area that I can't select from - I need to use contextual menus on each item individually. BAD!
Am I missing something or is this just a huge oversight by the Apple UX team?
Overall, I like the new update, but would prefer to keep my playlists on the left, with everything else on the right so it's easier to add songs to playlists.

If you are missing the Search field you may be missing the entire top section, together with the progress bar when playing and the red, yellow and green buttons. This can happen if iTunes overlaps the top of the screen (which of course it shouldn't do).
If this is the case, click and drag on the very bottom right-hand corner of the window (when in Library/Music or the iTunes Store) and drag upwards to reduce the height of the window. Then click on the bottom bar and drag downwards.

Mail search not finding existing items

The simple Mail Search tool finds many things in the mailboxes, but misses more and more. When a search is being done within a given mailbox or folder, the search expands (sometimes unreliably) to go through all mailboxes/folders, when this was not desired.
Is the indexing not working? How can this be checked?
What are limits of indexing (number of messages, etc.)?
Mail is open for many hours/day, so time should be available.
Entire Mail Folder is now over 1.3 GB, too big to handle?

Custom Search Portlet : Find all item created in a such year

Hi,
I'd like to find the way to search for items created in a such year.
I have added the 'created on' attribute in the form, but the operator is equal lower of higher.
What I need is to find the item created from 1st January to 31 December.
Does anyone have an idea ?

hi,
this is the expected behavior. the way it is working is that the search portlet is going against the search index. in fact there are 2 search indexes on the server: one for the meta-data and one for the content. both indexes are craeated using oracle text. by default the indexer is refreshed every 1 hour due to performance reasons.
if you want to change this you can do it - this is described in the portal configuration guide. you can also real-time synch your indexes. this is a new features in 10.1.4.

How to add a playlist folder to your iPhone manually so the music can be organized in separate folders (playlists). It's supposed to be simple and intuitive in Apple but I spent few hours trying to figure it out in my iTunes/searching in internet a solution; and I have a university education plus a PhD! And the question might be very standard. I have new iTunes 11.2.2.3 (June 2014) version and a standard PC.

Finely figured it out, solved! How to: Connect iPhone to PC, open iTunes and select your iPhone in the menu on the top, then "Library" in right top, afterwards go to "playlists" in the top menu. In playlist in left down corner by pressing "+" button adding "a new playlist". It will appear in right upper corner! (a little jumpy!). Then you can name your new playlist and drag/drop your music Mp3 files in this right upper corner area. Press done and sync in the end. Nokia Search cannot find the items on my phone

The Nokia Search function seems to fail to find items on my phone. This happens to Contacts, Email, Calendar, Notes. And the failure is consistent. Is there some indexing process I have to go through before the Search function would know how to search the whole phone?
I would think one of the most important feature for a smartphone is the search own data function. It that doesn't work, well, then the phone is not very smart, is it?

Had a long discussion with Nokia Care....
i wanted to search for phone-numbers, sometimes it finds, sometimes not.
Ended up with the information, that obviously only the first entered number (regardless which type or category) is included in the search...
So if i first enter mobile-number, then home-phone... it would only find the mobile-number. If i first enter home-phone, then mobile... it would never find the mobile... only the home-phone.
Latest firmware seems not to solve the problem.
So in my eyes... the search-function is very very weird...

How can I search and find all files modified since december 1st 2010

I just want to see all the files that have been modified on my Windows Server 2008 since December 1, 2010. I want to see if there is anything unusual. Is this possible without 3rd party software?
I support 2 Windows Server 2008. On one of them, I can't seem to get any advanced search options until I type at least one character in the name of the file I am searching for (but I want to search all files). Even then, the search is slow, it

It should be caused that Windows Search is not installed on the second server. See following steps to install it:
1) Start Server Manager
2) Click on Roles in the left navigation pane
3) Select Add Role in the Roles Summary pane to the right
4) Select the File Services role and click Next
5) Select the Windows Search role service and Finish the wizard.
Meanwhile, when you search for a file such as "data", input keyword data and click the Advanced Search at the bottom to result box. Then you can select "Data and modified" and "is after" December 1, 2010

How do I search and find the latest albums of a particular genre (Circuit)?

Hello,
I'm new to iTunes and the music I want to buy is Circuit Party (House).
All I want to do is log on and search for and find the latest Circuit Party music albums. Unfortunately, sometimes I will do a search and a song and its album will show up, but the album is not appearing in the "New and Noteworthy" section, even though it is a new release.
What I have been doing as a workaround is to visite another site which has the latest Circuit music albums and then switching back to iTunes Store to search for each specific album. This is a slow process and a pain!
I figure I must not be doing something right with the iTunes store, so if you can tell me the best way to find my music, I would really appreciate it!

Hi Tom,
As I can see from what you posted, this correction seems a program correction. You can use SNOTE transaction to apply it. Just download the OSS Note and apply it. The transaction it's pretty simple to use.
Otherwise if you don't have SNOTE installed you can find them in the following places:
SELECT_STATE_FOR_CONDTAB_BUILD - This is a function you should find this through the se37.

How to capture "Search" or "Find" in BDC recording?

I am doing a recording for tranaction where i need to select search (binocular) and enter a value to look in the list of entries.
When i did the same in recording, it took a dynamic OK CODE "=%_GC 157 10" for the search button click. but this is not working.
Can anyone tell me how to go about this and how to capture the "SEARCH" option?

I am doing a recording on transaction PPDPIM.
Here I am passing a Person number and Model development plan and go inside in change mode. I will have list of OBJID in the left hand side. There we have a SEARCH (binocular) option. I want to press it and search for a particular OBJID..then double click on the OBJID to bring it to the right hand side table control and then change its status.

HT1386 how do I add a playlist from my desktop iTunes library to my ipod touch 5th g

Is it possible to add a playlist from my desktop iTunes library to my ipod touch 5th generation. I've tried dragging it but this won't work - it seems that I have to put the playlist in the box and then press autofill which then means the songs in the playlist now become part pf the library on my ipod touch and I have to make up the playlist again on my ipod touch!
With the older ipods it was possible to drag a playlist directly onto them.
Am I missing something?

If you want to be able to just drag playlists or tracks to the iPod from iTunes, you need to turn on manual management in the Summary tab, and my guess is that this is off. Otherwise, set the playlist to sync in the Music tab.

Spotlight/Finder Search not finding files in search

Hello everyone,
When I do a search for a file, any file or folder in fact, that exists in any of the system folders or the /library and user/library folders, they NEVER appear in the search results.
Could someone please explain to me, for example, why a simple seacrh, say for example, for a folder called "Desktop Pictures" which can be found in MacOS X/Library, never shows up in the search result. Is it just my mac that has this problem?

As baltwo eventually explained, you have to add the search criteria "System files" to your search, with the option "Include" selected, to find many items Spotlight otherwise excludes from search results. Alternately (& quite ridiculously), if your search is restricted to the parent folder containing the item, you don't need to add this.
For example, if you open /Library in the Finder, enter "Desktop Pictures" in the search box, you won't get it in the results with the default "This Mac" location, but if you click "Library" for the location, you will. (Yes, many users think this is bizarre, "what were they thinking?" behavior.)
What Spotlight considers "system files" is only slightly less bizarre, as you will probably discover once you start using it to broaden searches. For instance, Safari history items & Mail.app messages are not found unless you include system files, but many files like C Header Source files (in System/Library/Frameworks) are found without including system files in the search.
When it was introduced in Tiger, Spotlight was supposed to be a next-generation search engine, capable of accurately guessing what you were looking for (& filtering out what you weren't) with near-sentient intelligence. I think almost anyone who used that version will agree it did not achieve that lofty goal. Apple apparently agreed, or at least listened to the complaints enough to realize it needed rethinking. Unfortunately, what its designers came up with for the Leopard rethink feels like an early beta version, full of hastily implemented, quirky features that never got sorted out before it was released.
We can only hope that we won't have to wait for OS 10.6 for a more mature, less quirky version.

How to manage search engines in Firefox 34.0.5???

I have been using Firefox for sometime now but the latest version has messed up the search bar. I have already seen quite a few posts related to this but no of them fix my current problem.
I use and addon called 'add to search' it allows me to take search bars on many websites and add them as search engines. It also allows you to set keywords for the different search engines. In version 33 and lower when you click manage search engines it is possible to shift the order of the search engines, edit their keywords, remove them and even rename them. With the update to version 34.0.5 all this functionality is lost. The keywords still operate, but I am unable to edit them or remove/rename search engines I have added. Does anyone know how this can be done? I would like to be able to change the keywords and I would also like to be able to remove search engines I have added and at this point Mozilla has made that hard.

how do you search for a footage item that may be in a folder item ?
eg: i have a comp as the first item in my project panel, then i have a folder containing the three footage items that belong to that comp below.
in my script i want to create a variable to store a particular footage item called "background". though i dont know how to search for it if its contained within a folder (called "footage").
can anyone pleease help a newbie

I cannot find a Google Toolbar add-on that is compatible with Firefox 7.0.1. Is it true that there isn't one?

My Dell Inspiron 1464 laptop crashed recently and Dell replaced the hard drive and re-installed Win 7 Home Premium, 64 bit. I bought the laptop in 2009 and soon experienced a lot of compatibility problems between the computer and peripherals, like printers, and in some Web applications. I did some Web research and it seemed that the problems were related to the Win 7 64 bit OS. I talked to Dell and they acknowledged that my problems might be due to that 64 bit version. They sent me the 32 bit installation disc to replace the OEM 64 bit version and I downgraded the OS on my Dell. This seemed to solve my problems, so I have been using that until the computer crashed on 30 Sept. this year.
After it crashed, I contacted Dell and we walked through a number of diagnostic tests and, although we couldn't find anything obviously wrong with the HDD, it just wouldn't load Win 7 and wouldn't boot. Dell concluded that the HDD was well and truly buggered somehow.
They sent me a box and I sent the laptop to them for repair.
Dell replaced the HDD and re-installed the 64 bit Win version at my request, since I had been advised by my IT guys at work that more things were now compatible with the 64 bit version than when I bought it in 2009. In addition, I had purchased a newer printer and other external bits in the past year and expected that I wouldn't have the compatibility issues now. With the full original version, I would be able to use more of my computer's resources.
Before I sent the computer back to Dell for repair, I took it to Staples and had the Tech Support guys there transfer the data from the wonky hard drive to an external drive, which they did successfully. In fact, I did this on advice from one of the Dell tech support techs with whom I spoke.
I got the computer back from Dell this last week and re-downloaded Firefox, which is my preferred browser, but I can't seem to add the Google Toolbar to it, now. I have the Google toolbar on Internet Explorer and have used it in earlier versions of Firefox, especially the "translate" function, since I do considerable research in documents in many languages. When I tried to download the Google Toolbar and add it to my new Firefox installation, it says I can't. When I do an Internet search I find many posts saying that Google Toolbar does not work with any Firefox of versions 5 or higher. Is this true? If not, how can I add Google Toolbar to my Firefox 7.0.

You can turn off compatibility checking, but more and more of the Google Toolbar will not work. Google is no longer supporting the Google Toolbar so you should use the alternatives.
