How do i see how much storage each application is using?

my mac gave me a warning that it is nearly out of storage.  I have 500GB internal storage which i am surprised i am almost out of.
i use a DSLR camera which takes up a lot of storage with each picture but i am still surprised.  how can i see how much each application is taking up in terms of storage?
Thanks.

First, empty the Trash if you haven't already done so. Then reboot. That will temporarily free up some space.
According to Apple documentation, you need at least 9 GB of available space on the startup volume (as shown in the Finder Info window) for normal operation. You also need enough space left over to allow for growth of your data. There is little or no performance advantage to having more available space than the minimum Apple recommends. Available storage space that you'll never use is wasted space.
To locate large files, you can use Spotlight. That method may not find large folders that contain a lot of small files.
You can more effectively use a tool such as OmniDiskSweeper (ODS) to explore your volume and find out what's taking up the space. You can also delete files with it, but don't do that unless you're sure that you know what you're deleting and that all data is safely backed up. That means you have multiple backups, not just one.
Deleting files inside an iPhoto or Aperture library will corrupt the library. Any changes to a photo library must be made from within the application that created it. The same goes for Mail files.
Proceed further only if the problem isn't solved by the above steps.
ODS can't see the whole filesystem when you run it just by double-clicking; it only sees files that you have permission to read. To see everything, you have to run it as root.
Back up all data now.
Install ODS in the Applications folder as usual. Quit it if it's running.
Triple-click the line of text below to select it, then copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C):sudo /Applications/OmniDiskSweeper.app/Contents/MacOS/OmniDiskSweeper
Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Paste into the Terminal window (command-V). You'll be prompted for your login password, which won't be displayed when you type it. You may get a one-time warning not to screw up. If you see a message that your username "is not in the sudoers file," then you're not logged in as an administrator.
The application window will open, eventually showing all files in all folders. It may take some minutes for ODS to list all the files.
I don't recommend that you make a habit of doing this. Don't delete anything while running ODS as root. If something needs to be deleted, make sure you know what it is and how it got there, and then delete it by other, safer, means. When in doubt, leave it alone or ask for guidance.
When you're done with ODS, quit it and also quit Terminal.

How do I know how much storage I am currently using?

    Go to Settings>iCloud>Storage & Backups>Manage Storage
From there you can find how much and which files are in a backup, and how much different apps use to store data files.  At the bottom of the screen is the size of the mail storage.

If you're on a Mac, open System Preferences, and open iCloud option.
Or if you're on an iOS device, open Settings - iCloud - Storage
You can see the Total Storage and the Available Storage.
    This should solve your question

Highlight a song by clicking on it.

  • How much storage space do I currently have for the Basic Adobe FormsCentral subscription?

I am researching alternatives to FormsCentral but cannot seem to find how much storage is offered with our current Basic FormsCentral membership (ie how many GB of storage)? Is there a way to tell how much storage I am currently using with my existing forms?

You can't check your usage on the iCloud website - you have to do this from the iCloud prefs pane, which you don't have. If you are only using it for email you would have to be storing an awful lot of messages to exceed 5GB. If you are concerned about this you can download some of them to your Mac and off iCloud.
To do this simply create a folder under 'On My Mac', go to the iCloud mailbox, select some of the messages and drag them to the folder you created. Don't try to do too many at once (say more than 100) and allow time for them to download.
If you haven't yet set Mail up to access iCloud, but are simply using the website, you can set it up as detailed here:
Entering iCloud email settings manually in Snow Leopard or Leopard
If you do decide to upgrade, the latest version of iPhoto is only £10.49, though MS Office is more of a problem. But you can go on as you are as long as your Mac holds out - Snow Leopard is a good solid system.

How do I know how much storage I'm using?

Ah, we don't track the size of all the originals files since most often users will only view the files rather than actually download them.  This doesn't require the entire file to be downloaded, just a smaller version of it.  Do you actually download the files, or view them?
For a different way to clean up space, try the following:
On your iphone or ipad, go to the library view for each library and look at the bottom left cloud icon above the libary icon. Next to that you will see "up to date" if it has completed the sync.  You can click on the cloud icon for more information. Anytime your library is up to date, you can clear the cache if you wish to regain some space. This is done in your Library settings in Revel. Tap the 3 parallel lines (version 2.1) in the top left corner. Then, tap the i in the circle to the right of the library you want to clean up. Next, tap the 'Clear Cache' button and give Revel a few minutes to process files.

  • How much storage does the iPod Touch start with?

I no this may sound like a stupid question but I no from preivous experience that when you buy an iPod you don't the full storage they say you get. e.g. my current iPod (Classic 80GB) only comes 74.2GB of storaage.
*So my question is - how much storage does each iPod Touch model start out with?*
For example, the 8GB model may only have 7GB to start out with.
    thanks in advance.

You will find ALL storage devices act this way. Your computers hard drive is the same (actual storage of a gigabyte sized drive will be 0.93 times what the stated size is).
An 8GB touch will be about 7.4GB.

  • Is there a way to find out how much storage I have used on my iphone4s?

I am new to icloud and want to back up my phone but it is saying I have too much data to back up to the free 5.0GB.  I can purchase more but note sure how much I will need.  Is there a way to find out how much storage my phone is currently using?

Go to Settings - General - Usage, and you will see a breakdown of all your apps along with how much space they are using.
My guess is that you have a lot of pictures that should probably be exported to your PC/Mac to free up your space.   5GB is a lot for one phone, you should be able to get by without buying more storage if you do a little housecleaning first.

  • How much storage units can be added in the single bin.

    Hi all,
Can anybody tell me how much storage units can be added in the single bin.
    Dev

    Hi Dev,
AS Prashant & Abhijit mentioned above the maximum storage units in a single bin is based on various factors such the putaway strategy & capacity check you have set for your storage type as well as palletization data.
Now in case of Bulk Storage which you have mentioned above, please go through the below F1 help for the block structure.
In bulk storage, you need to define for each block (or row) how many
storage units fit into the block.  For this purpose, you must define
both the number of columns as well as the maximum stack height.  *The*
product of these factors usually gives the maximum number of storage
+units and is determined automatically by the system.  However, it is+
possible to change the maximum number of storage units to a lower number
if the storage bin or the material features require this.
    Hope it helps.
    Thanks & Regards,

As Justin had given the reply.
See, Basically you instance depends on the SGA and PGA, If you want find out the Current Instance values, you need to Calcuate the Values Configure for your instance from V$parameters values you can get it.
    SGA will depends on the (DB_CACHE_SIZE + LOG_BUFFER + SHARED_POOL_SIZE + LARGE_POOL_SIZE + JAVA_POOL_SIZE)
Rest of things you need to understand what is an instance and further. Refer the link so that it will help you understand the things

  • How tonsee how much IO each open port is doing?

    Hi all,
Is there any way to see how much IO each open port is doing?
Netstat, lsof and portstat all show the open ports. I want to see how much IO each is doing. Even better would be an historical list.
Seems like such a useful piece of data that one would think that the command exists and is probably some option on netstat or something that I have missed.
I will even write the C program to extract the information from the kernel if that data exists but is not available from an existing command.
I suppose if nobody knows what that command would be perhaps they can point me toward the kernel docs to see if I can find the information in the OS?
    Thank you.

    tcpdump
    DESCRIPTION
Tcpdump prints out a description of the contents of packets on a net-
work interface that match the boolean expression. It can also be run
with the -w flag, which causes it to save the packet data to a file for
later analysis, and/or with the -r flag, which causes it to read from a
saved packet file rather than to read packets from a network interface.
In all cases, only packets that match expression will be processed by
    tcpdump.

How can I find out how much storage I am using on icloud?  I know what "usage" shows on phone...ipad....but I was notified that I would be charged $100 to keep capacity as is.  But dont know what as is IS ?

Open iCloud preferences on your computer. At the bottom you will see a progress bar showing what
    what you are using:
Click on the Manage button to "manage" your space.

If your ipad has only 797 MB free and it tells you that you need 3.4 GB to update, then you need to begin deleing files, whatever it takes to free up space.
    Consider...
    Delete apps you don't use.
Delete videos you don't want (these take up a lot of space).
Do you have a lot of emails stored on the device?
Are there apps that store data files, like a PDF reader?  If there are a lot of these, you need to delete some.
The bottom line is that you need to remove data and/or apps on your device to make more storage available.
But for videos and photos, always sync them to a computer first to archive them.
