  • How to move my entire iphoto library and all albums and mobileme galleries to my new tower?

What is the best way to move my entire iphoto library and all albums and mobileme galleries to my new tower?
I want to move it smoothly without hours of reconfiguring albums and Mobileme galleries.  Already have a timemachine backup of the older iMac with the iphoto library.

Connect the two Macs together (network, firewire target mode, etc) and drag the iPhoto library intact as a single entity from the old Mac to the pictures folder of the new Mac - launch iPhoto on the new mac and it will open the library and convert it as needed and you will be ready move forward.

  • How do I see my iPhoto library in Keynote?

I'm really new to OX 10.6 and am trying to find out how to set up a small Keynote presentation. The tutorial makes it look easy to get photos from your iPhoto library, but when I follow their instructions, my iPhoto library doesn't show any photos! Where do I find them? I know they're there 'cause I just loaded them from my camera. I'm cornfuggled!

Hmmm ... bummer. I see from another of your posts that you have the same problem with Mail as with KN, which would suggest that the problem is either with iPhoto, or is something more fundamental. Re-installing apps generally causes no problems, as the related files (pics, for iPhoto) are left undisturbed. If you re-install iPhoto, you might have to re-establish where your library is (though I doubt it), but that's no problem.
Before you go on, though, try a couple of experiments:
    1. Make a copy of your iP library (a copy; don't just drag it to your desktop), and put it, say, on your desktop (just so it's easy to find). Open iP with OPTION, and re-establish the location of your iP library, using the copy on the desktop. iP should open, showing your pics. Close it, then see whether Mail and KN register the media. If they do, drag the copy from your desktop back to the same place the original was, delete the original, and rename your copy back to simply "iPhoto Library" (removing "copy" to avoid confusion in the future, when you've forgotten about all this). The problem was the iP Library itself, and Mail and KN will probably work as they should.
    But if not ...
    2. Make a new user account (I'd name it "Test"). Since the iP in this account will not yet have any pics, you'll have to tell it where your already-established Library is, so open iP with OPTION, and tell it where your pics really are. If this works (as it should, with no hitch), open KN, and see if the media is picked up now. If so, the problem is probably with some .plist file - but finding it might not be so easy. (After you're done, you can delete the test account, along with its HOME folder.)
So at this point, you might try re-installing all the apps, or you might even have to go beyond that, re-applying the latest combo update to Snow Leopard (http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/apple/macosx_updates/macosxv1062updatecomb o.html), or you might even have to go nuclear (a real PIA, so I hope not), and erase and install the whole shebang all over again (make sure you have BU of all your stuff!!!).
BTW: you didn't mention whether KN picked up media other than pics, like audio and movies. Knowing that might help, too.

  • How Do I Share My Iphoto Library with another USer

I have iPhoto5 on iMacG5. I share the computer with my wife and she has a seperate log in as a seperate user. My question is how to I share my iPhoto Library and albums with her on her user page?
    iMacG5   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

The article states "Make sure you have read and write permissions for the folder and then apply this setting to all enclosed items."
That's exactly what I'm doing. I'm giving EVERYBODY full read and write permission by "Ignoring Ownership" on an entire drive. Incidentally, this can also be done on a partition.
An example would be you would be able to edit a photo that you have downloaded i your user but not the other user.<<<</div>
My wife and I have been doing that on a regular basis for several years and have never had an issue.
    Read the last paragraph.<<<</div>
You misunderstood the wording. I'm NOT using the "Shared" folder. I've created something comparable to a really really big floppy!

  • How can I restore an iPhoto library from Time Machine (ML) - when I TM doesn't see the backup??

    Hi,
I recently did a Time Machine backup of my MacBook Pro (Mountain Lion) onto an external HDD. Around the time of the last backup, my system was behaving funny so I decided to rebuild the OS X.
Because the last TM backup was of a system that as mentioned, was somewhat 'unstable', and I only had a few backups available (didn't have TM running too long beforehand) - I decided not to use TM to 'restore' my system. I just did  a clean install of ML and planned on pulling files over manually. I'd done this before and it worked a treat.
This time ran into a snag. The backup disk TM used was an external HDD which I wanted to upgrade (suffice to say it works fine). So, I needed to move the backup.backupdb directory to my other HDD. The copy seemed to work fine ... so far so good.
I installed the new ML OS on my MacBook Pro and that was fine too. I was able to pull most of my files over by going into the TM backup and copying what I needed.
BUT, for some reason, this didn't work for the iPhoto library?
Alas, I found that you need to do a 'restore' iPhoto library file from whithin TM. So I fired up TM and noticed that it didn't recognise the old backup file located on the HDD. I.e. when I turned on TM, pointed it to the external HDD (where I copied the previous backup to), it started a fresh backup.
So ... my question is - "How do I restore the iPhoto library if I can't get to it from TM?"
Thanks in advance to anyone that can help! The last 15 years of photos are stored in this library!

    Hi ...
I've found a solution to my problem.
Time Machine locates extenal HDD backups differently depending if they were done via a network or via a USB/FireWire/Thunderbolt connection.
My initial backup was done via a direct Thunderbolt connection. I ran into the above issue b/c the second time when I tried looking for the backup file the HDD was conencted to my iMac and I was accessing it via a network conenction.
I simply connected the drive directly to my MacBook pro and ... voila. I was able to see the backup, select the iPhoto library and begin the restore.
    Hope this helps.
BTW - I found this out by reading the 'blue box' selection on this page: http://pondini.org/TM/E2.html
    (Thanks goes to Pondini!)

  • How can I get iMovie 10 to see my iPhoto Library after I relocated it.

How can I get iMovie 10 to see my iPhoto Library after I relocated it. I moved my iPhoto Library to a secondary hard drive, because my main SSD wasn't large enough. I then upgraded to IMove 10.0.4 and also moved my iMovie Library to the secondary hard drive. When I highlight the iPhoto Library in iMovie there is nothing there. Any ideas on how to get iMove to find my relocated iPhoto Library?

I think I may have solved my own problem. I left cliked on the relocated iPhoto Library and went to "Open with >." I then went to "Other...." I then set the wind located in the bottom labled "Enable:" to "All Applications" and picked iMovie. It gave me a error, but the ultimate result was that iMove now was linked to my iPhoto Library.

    Thank you

Is there any chance you launched iPhoto while the external hard drive was not available? If so you may have created a virtual EHD - if so unmount your EHD and in the finder go menu ==> go to folder == /Volumes and if you see your EHD there drag it to the desktop - then remount it and launch iPhoto and see if you see both libraries

Either you moved or copied your iPhoto library folder to the Desktop.
Quit iPhoto. Rename the folder on your Desktop to something else, such as "foo." Launch iPhoto. If you still see all your photos, you can delete "foo."
If you don't see your photos, quit iPhoto, rename "foo" to "iPhoto Library," and put it in your Pictures folder. Try iPhoto again.

Replying to my own post - heh. I downloaded iExplorer (http://www.macroplant.com/iexplorer/) which allowed me access to the files on the phone and there was the phantom movie in the DCIM folder. Deleted it, and all is well - although I still have 0.65gb of Other in iTunes.....

  • HT4889 How can I transfer my iPhoto photos and iTunes library to my new iMac?

How can I transfer my iPhoto photos and iTunes library to my new iMac?

If the Migration Assistant won't do it, move them over as you would any other folder; they're located in the Pictures and Music folders of your home folder by default. The iPhoto library needs to be transferred via a drive, partition, or disk image formatted as Mac OS Extended or through an AFP network share.

  • How do I import an iPhoto Library  (V.7.1.5) created on my old MacBook (10. 6.8) into my new Macbook pro (10.9.1) running iPhoto 9.5.1? I tried copying onto memory stick and moving to new mac, but new iPhoto doesn't recognise the library.

How do I import an iPhoto Library  (V.7.1.5) created on my old MacBook (10. 6.8) into my new Macbook pro (10.9.1) running iPhoto 9.5.1? I tried copying onto memory stick and moving to new mac, but new iPhoto doesn't recognise the library.

So what exactly did you copy over? If it's a 12 gig iPhoto Library then it sounds like the files are there. Perhaps the copy went wrong along the way.
    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Repair Database. If that doesn't help, then try again, this time using Rebuild Database.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. (In early versions of Library Manager it's the File -> Rebuild command. In later versions it's under the Library menu.)
This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

  • How do I backup my iPhoto Library to an external hard drive and keep my photos grouped by their events?

How can I backup my iPhoto Library to an external hard drive and keep my photos grouped by their events?

I have attempted to make sure my iPhoto library has been backed up on the external hard drive and that it is safe to delete some events from my internal hard drive
You need to think this through.
Time Machine is a back up application. It keeps a rolling back up of the data. It's called rolling because it means you can revert to the data you had on a specific date and time. But that's not eternal, and as time goes by, and your drive fills up, older backups are deleted. So if you delete Events on your Mac they will - eventually - also be deleted from the Time Machine back up.
If you wan tot archive data hendon't use Time Machine for that job. Here's how you might archive an iPhoto Library:
Make sure the drive is formatted Mac OS Extended (Journaled)
    1. Quit iPhoto
    2. Copy the iPhoto Library from your Pictures Folder to the External Disk.
Now you have two full versions of the Library.
    3. On the Internal library, trash the Events you don't want there
Now you have a full copy of the Library on the External and a smaller subset on the Internal
    Some Notes:
As a general rule: when deleting photos do them in batches of about 100 at a time. iPhoto can baulk at trashing large numbers at one go.
You can choose which Library to open: Hold down the option (or alt) key key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Choose Library'
You can keep the Library on the external updated with new imports using iPhoto Library Manager
