How do i select a portion of a document to print

how do i print only a portion of a document that I have highlighted?

InDesign can print a selection of pages (set a range in the print dialog) , not not parts of pages.

New owner here.  I see that in printing I can select one page and print same.  How do I select numerous pages from a document and print only those selected pages? I would not think that I can only select one page at a time.  Thanks much

Just change the range as illustrated below.  If you don't see that, click the Show Details button.

  • How do I select what tray/paper I want to print to?

Okay, I can't figure out how I'm supposed to tell iPhoto or whatever I'm printing from where to print from. Sometimes I've got legal in the back tray, sometimes it's photo paper. Same for the main tray. Depends on what's going on in my office.
How am I supposed to tell it where to go? I see presets but I can't duplicate the PAPER ON GLOSSY presets so I have to recreate them? I had to pull the main tray to make sure it wouldn't try and print from there since I'm printing pictures tonight.
I guess this is meant to keep people from screwing up printing but it's screwing up those of us who know what we're doing.

had the same problem on my new hp 7520: No option to select the photo tray in Photoshop Elements 10 on my MacBook Pro (OS 10.6.1).
The solution was to use a preset generated in the seperate program standard on the Mac, Preview.  The preset causes an additional window to pop up when you press print, and allows you to select the preset.  You don't see this window unless a preset has been generated.
To set a preset in Preview follow these steps (other programs could probably be used to set the preset as well):
    1. Select a photo and select print.
    2.  In the print screen select the paper size (eg. 4x6), then in the option that says preview use the drop down menu to select "printer features" which then brings up the options that we are looking for.  Set the paper type (eg. Hp premium papers) and source (photo tray).  Now go back to top and in the preset window select "save as" and give it a name (eg. 4x6 photo tray).   This has created a preset with specified paper quality, size and source which can be used in Photoshop.
Once the preset is established you can easily print to the photo tray from Photoshop:
    1. Select a photo and select print.
    2. Select the printer, paper size and print size (should match preset) and select print.
    3.  Because of the preset, an additional window pops up allowing you to select the printer and the preset, then select print again to send it to the printer.
Of course you can have a number of presets, for different sizes or types of papers, different source trays or even different printers.

  • How do I select text in a PDF document?

I have a text-based PDF document, but I can only select text by restarting the reader. Once I select "Take a Snapshot" I can't select text anymore. How do I switch back to select text? I tried right-clicking on the document but I don't see any "selection" tool. I am using 11.0.3 under Win 7.

Just tested this (Reader 11.0.3 on Windows XP), and your scenario is exactly so.
I have been able to go back to get the Select Tool by clicking on the Highlight tool in the Toolbar, then right-clicking on the document.
But it's definitely a bug in my view.

  • How do I select which tray I would like to print from on my company printer?

I am using a Mac and attempting to print a file from illustrator to the bypass tray of our company printer.  I am personally trying to print labels and I don't want to risk putting the labels in the main tray and have someone else print their document before I can push print on mine. I have done the due diligence of searching the internet for this issue but with no helpful results found just yet. Any advice?

And Preview still doesn't render the PDF correctly. Install the free Reader app.
No, Preview renders and prints just fine for me.  And Preview doesn't have any problem printing to the Manual Feed tray.
I do own Acrobat via CC and can install the full version for no additional cost.  However, in my opinion, Acrobat is so horribly bloated that I won't install it even though it's free (and again, I'm generally an Adobe fan).
I do appreciate your suggestions, but the real issue here is that Illustrator should really have a functioning tray selection option.  I'm guessing that Adobe would argue that it's a printer-driver issue, but again, literally every other graphics application on OSX can print to the Manual Feed tray seamlessly, except for Adobe products.  Even Photoshop lets you actually select Manual Feed instead of Tray 1, however, the printer will still print from Tray 1 instead of the MF tray regardless of what I set.  Again, no other application exhibits this odd/errant behavior, so it's got to be something messed up with the way Adobe is doing it.
Thanks for the feedback though, I appreciate it.

  • How do I lift a picture in a document to print it without printing the entire document, and when I ask it to print at 400%, how do I get it to tell me how many pages there are and what is on them

I have a pix of a quilt in a document. I would like to print the page of the document at 400% to enable me to see the quilt better. When I go to effects and put in my percent, it prints the entire document and will not allow me to move to other pages. It says its p1 of 1. I am taking a class for making this quilt. I need this pix for the class.

  • How do i reduce the size of a document when printing on my HP8600 all in one printer

I want to reduce the size of a document when I copy it on my HP 8600 all in one printer.  Can it be done?

    Hi,
Yes, from the printer control panel:
Various settings available from the printer's control panel, including the following:
    • Number of copies
    • Copy paper size
    • Copy paper type
    • Copy speed or quality
    • Lighter/Darker settings
    • Resizing originals to fit on different paper sizes
Touch Copy, Settings, Resize, Custom   ... then Done.
Back to Copy menu then touch Black or Color to copy.
    Regards.

How can I select adn enlarge the entire document/image on a page, reducing the the surrounding boarder?  I can move the different text and image boxes around independently of each other but the outer most boarders of the main template block appear to be fixed.  I thought I would be able to enlarge or reduce my document from 'page layout' but this does not seem possible.

The word is border. Boarders are the Harry Potters of this world.

  • I can't select a portion of a scanned page

I often have documents scanned into PDF format at two different copy shops. Sometimes I want to use the Acrobat 8 or Adobe Reader 7 selection tool to select a portion of a scanned page and then edit that selection in Photoshop.
When I open scan from one of the shops (which uses Acrobat 4 for scannng) and choose the selection tool, the cursor turns into a crosshair and I am able to then marquee-select a portion of the scanned image, copy the selection and then edit the selected image in Photoshop.
When I open a scanned image from the other copy shop (which uses Acrobat 7 for scanning) and choose the selection tool, the cursor remains an arrowhead and I cannot select any portion of the scanned image.
Can you please tell me how to correct this problem? Thanks

You can only edit an entire graphic, not parts. In addition, you can not do the edit in Reader. In both of the cases you describe, you should be able to select the image to edit. The process you are using sounds like a graphic copy (at the screen resolution) which is far from an optimal process for getting the graphics. You can save all graphics to the hard drive and edit those, retaining all of the resolution of the original.
In terms of the two cases, it sounds like the second shop may have set security to not allow copying of the graphic screen.

  • How do i convert a portion of day into a time?

How do i convert a portion of day into a time, without dividing and modding the number myself?
For example, i calculated solar noon UTC to be .733409047. Adding that to the date gives the correct answer:
    SQL> SELECT TO_DATE('1/1/2012', 'DD/MM/YYYY') + .733409047 FROM Dual;
    TO_DATE('1/1/2012',
    01/01/2012 17:36:07
A few questions, to actually understand this.
Is .733409047 implicitly converted? If so, to what datatype?
If i want HH:MM:SS does it need to be converted to a date, and then TO_CHAR? Or can the decimal be directly converted?
I'm currently trying to understand INTERVAL.
    SQL> select interval '.5' day from dual;
select interval '.5' day from dual
    ERROR at line 1:
    ORA-01867: the interval is invalid
So, i'm obviously misunderstanding it. Can it be used here?

Is .733409047 implicitly converted? If so, to what datatype? No, there is no conversion going on here, just Date Arithmetic .
In Oracle, if d is a DATE and n is a NUMBER (not necessarily an integer, and not necessarily positive), d+n is the DATE that is n days later than d.
If i want HH:MM:SS does it need to be converted to a date, and then TO_CHAR? Or can the decimal be directly converted?Sorry, I don't understand. Are you saying that you want to do something like date arithmetic, but instead of using a number like .733409047 (meaning about .73 of a day), you want to pass a string like '17:36:07' (meaning 17 hours, 36 minutes and 7 seconds)? If so, INTERVAL DAY TO SECOND is probably your best bet. (It looks like you're already thinking along these lines.)
I'm currently trying to understand INTERVAL.
    SQL> select interval '.5' day from dual;
select interval '.5' day from dual
    ERROR at line 1:
    ORA-01867: the interval is invalid
So, i'm obviously misunderstanding it. Can it be used here? You can only use integers like that. If you want to use any number, then use date arithmetic to add to (or subtract from) a DATE, or use NUMTIDSINTERVAL to produce an INTERVAL DAY TO SECOND:
SELECT     NUMTODSINTERVAL (.733409047, 'DAY')     AS intrvl
    FROM     dual;Output:
    INTRVL
    +000000000 17:36:06.541660800
I hope this answers your question.
If not, post a little sample data (CREATE TABLE and INSERT statements), maybe about 5 rows, and also post the results you want from that data.
Explain, using specific examples, how you get those results from that data.
Always say which version of Oracle you're using.

  • HT3349 How do you select a sub-set of cells from the entire document so you can print only those specific cells?

How do you select a sub-set of cells from the entire document so you can print only those specific cells?

There is no analog to MS Excels print range.  So the next best thing is to plan your data so that you don't need to use print range.  The next best thing after that is to select the range of cells you want to print, then copy, the switch to the application Preview, and create a new document from the clipboard (select the menu item "File > New from Clibboard") then select all, copy then paste to the destination (maybe an email) .
You can also paste that portion of the table into another table (or a new table) by pasting values only
