How do I sell my old PowerBook G4?

Does anybody know of a reputable company - either online or in New York? My PowerBookG4 (40 GB, 867 MHz, 768 MB RAM, battery not working) is pretty worthless to be, but I would like to see if I can sell it for something... a $100, perhaps?
help!
thanks

Online, you have Craigslist or Ebay, which is an auction site. Ebay you need to have an account to buy or sell. It's not difficult to set one up. Craigslist is very popular and I don't think you need to set an account up.
Ebay reaches a very wide audience and if you word your ad right and accompany it with detailed photos you have a good chance of selling it. You also get to choose to auction it or set a buy it now price. Auctioning is the most popular. How high the price goes depends on how many people see your ad.

hope this helps.... Is it the 12" G4 by any chance. They still fetch a good price.

  • Ballpark prices - selling my old powerbook G4 17" in Canada

Does anyone have a ballpark figure of how much money I can get if I sell my old powerbook G4 17" in Canada (Toronto)? Here is the information.
    Hardware Overview
    Machine Name: PowerBook G4 17"
    Machine Model: PowerBook5,7
    CPU Type: PowerPC G4 (1.2)
    Number Of CPUs: 1
    CPU Speed: 1.67 GHz
L2 Cache (per CPU): 512 KB
    Memory: 1 GB
    Bus Speed: 167 MHz
    Boot ROM Version: 4.9.1f1
    Serial Number: W8514*RJ3
    Sudden Motion Sensor:
    State: Enabled
    Version: 1.0
    (120 GB 7200RPM internal drive)
I bought the powerbook in Japan on June 27, 2005, so it is a little over 5 years old. I have treated it well (apple store staff said on two visits that they thought my powerbook looked very good for its age). I had no problems whatsoever with it until 3-4 years after purchase, when I had the internal hard-drive, the superdrive, and the AirPort extreme card fail extremely close together. I got the bad news at the genius bar and also a quote for repairs. As it was well out of my apple care's limit, I thought about the cost of out-of-warrantee repairs versus putting the money to a new computer. I finally got the repairs done several months later ($500-600) on December 23, 2009 and my computer is still running today. The only issue with my machine now is vertical semi-opaque bars that affect my screen. I read on the apple forum that these sort of vertical lines are a common occurrence with powerbooks with W85 serial numbers. I initially only had one bar on the right side for many months, but then a second on the left appeared about a month ago. I can still see through the bars and they are less apparent on lighter screens and most apparent on darker screens. The genius bar guy stated it would take $800 to fix the issue. I'm thinking that this is too much, and will buy an entirely new machine instead. One other issue that has come up is "Kernel failures", with my mac freezing up and the screen message stating that I must turn off my computer by pressing and holding on the power button for several seconds. I can successfully turn off my computer, and it works again subsequently. This issue seems to occur randomly, but I have noticed that it happens most when I am trying to start up, restart, or turn off my machine. I have had the genius bar look at it twice, and they did extensive hardware tests, but to no avail. Now, it is more a slight annoyance than a problem that keeps me from using it.
Any tips on ballpark prices would be great. My powerbook could, at the very worst, be used for parts as the internal hard-drive, the superdrive, and the AirPort extreme card were all replaced only one year ago.
    Thanks,
    Tim

I have two 17" Powerbooks. I bought both off of eBay. The first one is the 1Ghz model. It was advertised as "on it's last legs". I won the auction last year and paid $152.50 for it. I am typing this message on it right now. I have sunk maybe another $100 in to it. A new LVDS cable was $25, but apparently my screen was also bad so I replaced the screen for $75, again from eBay.
The second Mac I won earlier this year. The owner had dropped it on it's corner by the superdrive. I paid $250. This Mac is a 1.67 Ghz model with 2GB Ram. It has my 320GB HD installed from an earlier Powerbook. The only additional thing I paid for was $85 for a new battery.
I need a new battery for my 1Ghz model, but other than that EVERYTHING on both my PBs works. I have cosmetic issues, but no worse than any other PB that's 5 to 7 years old.
My point in mentioning this is that if your PB is in great condition you can probably fetch upwards of $500 for it. I've seen auctions on eBay for pristine 17" Macs with the bidding anywhere between $600-$1000.
My last point, is that if you know where to look and are willing to do the work yourself – parts are cheap. I replaced both the LVDS cable and the screen on my 1Ghz PB by myself. The only special parts you need are a set of Torx drivers.

  • How do I transfer my contacts from my old Powerbook G4 to my new Macbook Pro?

how do I transfer my contacts from my old Powerbook G4 to my new one Macbook Pro?
new Macbook Pro is operating on OSX 10.8.2
When I save it as an export then try to open it on the new computer it wants me to delete all my current contacts before it will import.
    What happened to MERGING?

On the PowerBook G4, open Address Book and choose File > Back up Address Book...
Save it to your Desktop or directly to the MBP if it is already connected. Otherwise copy the Address Book backup file to the MacBook Pro. Email is also an option.
On the MacBook Pro, open (double-click) the Address Book Backup (abbu) file:
Contacts will launch and display the following:
Click Replace All which will do what it says.

  • Decided to upgrade from an old PowerBook G4, mostly for eyesight issues. Bought a new Mac Mini and hooked it up to an Apple A1267 Cinema Monitor. I cannot even figure out how to turn them on. Help please.

I am exhausted just getting to the point of being allowed to ask my question.  I recently decided to upgrade from an old PowerBook G4 that we have used for years, and am using now.  I bought a new Mac Mini and a reconditioned Apple A1267 Monitor that was working beautifully when hooked to a slightly newer PowerBook in the store.  Both the Mini and the monitor are plugged in, and attached to each other but I feel light a dolt.  I cannot even figure out how to turn them on or even get a power light to come on. Can someone help me?

How is the Mini coonected to the momitor?
Does the power button n the mini not work?

  • HT1533 I have an old PowerBook G4 I installed a new drive how do I load the new OS

I have an old PowerBook G4 I installed a new hard drive how do I load in the OS

You'll need the Original system discs that came with your system when you bought it or a Upgrade DVD for a newer version of OSX that you bought and installed over the top of the original version. Either should boot the system and allow you to install that version of OS X.
But you will still need the original Applications DVD to reinstall the iLife Apps.
If you do not have them you can order a Replacement set from Apple for a small charge.
To boot the system from a DVD you can either hold down the C key when starting the system, that tells the system to boot from the DVD drive, or hold down the Option key when starting and that will bring up the Boot Menu screen where you select the DVD/DVD drive as the Boot source.

  • How do I get OS 10 back onto my old Powerbook G4?

A DVD got stuck in my old Powerbook G4, so I followed some online instuctions to take it apart, access the DVD drive and fish out the stuck DVD.
I then followed the process to replace all the relevant parts and leads etc.
But when I switched it back on, it has reverted to OS 9.2 - which takes me back, and is not where I want to be!
So does anyone have any advice on next steps?
Does it suggest I have put the machine back together incorrectly and missed something?
Or should I just stick in the original OS X disks into the drive and reload? ...what could possibly go wrong?
    With thanks and best wishes
    Rob

Have you tried holding down Option at boot to see if you get OSX as an option?
Or (I'm hazy now on OS9) through the Apple Menu > Set Startup  (I think).

  • How to set up remote access to my old Powerbook?

    Hello.
I would like to access some files from my old Powerbook from my new Macbook, as I always forget files I wind up needing later (I just recently bought the Macbook) , and don;t want to load everythign which was on my Powerbbok onto my new computer. Any suggestions?
    Thanks

Start up the powerbook and immediately hold down the T key, until you see the Firewire logo moving on the screen. This will place your powerbook in "Target Disk Mode". Using a firewire cable plug the powerbook into the Macbook, the powerbooks disk will then mount on the Macbooks desktop and you can copy any files you want across.
    Hope this helps.

  • Just got a new MBP and I want to sell my old one.

The email I got from Apple says they will give me $500 for my 3 year old MBP.  I have a lock set but I do not remember how I did this or how to remove it, but when I want to make a change with the time, for example, I have to insert a mastercode.  it is the same code when that brown/beige lock comes up. It only shows up at different times when I am trying to make a change. The company that will take my computer neds all locks removed.  It does not show up when I want to make changes to System pref.  Does anybody know how I turn that off because the company who will buy the old MBP needs this master pasword/lock turned off.
any suggestions on how to turn off the lock or set it so it does not show up anymore?  I think I found it under System Pref.---Security---Uncheck "Require a password..."  The locks are still there but so far the ones I have gone back to look at are unlocked.

This is just the standard user password for your account. If you've forgot it, there are various ways to reset it, depending on which version of OS X you're running.
If you want to sell your old machine, take a look at Thomas Reed's How to prepare your Mac for sale.
If you need help on resetting your password, post back with your OS X version.

  • How can I connect an old macbook pro...

How can I connect an old macbook pro with that does NOT have a Thunderbolt connection to a new 27 inch iMac? I only need to do this for one specific purpose, to be able to see the work I'm doing on the laptop in InDesign on the iMac's larger screen (at a larger size as it were, so I can see a double page spread (or even a whole page would be an improvement) in one go)?  I gather it might be possible to get an adaptor but note that Apple don't seem to sell one. I know I could do this with the cinema screen but would rather do it with a new imac as that will have more use to me overall. It's a work laptop which I don't own so I don't own the Indesign to just be able to use that on an iMac. I have tried to connect monitors to the laptop in the past, but with no success at all.  I hope someone can help . Thank you.

Im pretty sure you are talking about the M8536 which has an ADC Adapter.
you will have to daisy chain a thunderbolt to DVI adapter with an DVI to ADC Adapter.
    the first adapter:

The second adapter is old so you may find used ones on ebay like this:

  • How do I remove my old iMac from my App Store and iTunes Store accounts?

Before I sold my friend my old iMac, I used the Migration Assistant to transfer all her files from her MacBook Pro to the iMac. I then deleted all my files. My old iMac and her MacBook Pro were both upgrated to Mavericks before the Migration.
Now, she is being prompted to download and install the updates for Numbers and Pages on what used to be my iMac, but the App Store displays my account identification and asks for my password.
    (1) How can I delete my old iMac from my App Store and iTunes Store accounts?
    (2) How can she access the App Store and iTunes Store using her own accounts?
    Thanks in advance.

That isn't how to prepare a Mac to sell or give away. You should deauthorize your iTunes account on the Mac. Call Apple Care and have the Mac disassociated from your Apple ID. Then erase the Mac and install the latest version of OS X that shipped installed on the Mac using the Install DVD or OS X Recovery, depending on what version shipped on the Mac. Until you do this, the Mac, OS X and the iLife apps belong to you. She will need to buy the iWork apps for herself, using her own account. You cannot pass any apps that you bought on to her, that would be piracy.

  • How can I remove my old phone number from my iPhone?

I want to sell my old iPhone 5 (Sprint), and I want to get everything off of it. Obviously I'd restore it and remove everything first, but how do I get the 'My number' to change from my current phone number (which was ported to T Mobile and is with a newer phone now) to something else/removed? I remember I had the same problem a few years ago with an android phone, and I kept getting texts from my number on it (both phones at the same time), I obviously don't want something like this to happen again, especially if I sell it.
    Thanks in advance
