How do I sell old iMac G5 for parts?

I have an iMac G5 20/1.8/1GB with logic board failure. I'd like to sell it for parts but can't figure out how to price it. I was just thinking of putting it on craigslist but can anyone offer pricing advice or selling advice? Thank you!

No. Wiping the HD will erase the OS on it.

  • I have a new mac and want my old photoshop on it , how get i the old serial key for the new ?

I have a new mac and want my old photoshop on it , how get i the old serial key for the new ? My old mac is deleted ...

We would need to know the version of Mac OS you are running and the version of Photoshop you want to install.
The serial number is the tricky part. If you have no idea where you placed it and did not register your product with Adobe, your chances are very low of retrieving it.

  • Old imac keep for network ?

I just bought a new imac. I have my 5 year old imac and was wondering what to do with it. I can not figure out how to see it on the wireless network. Was wondering if I could keep it and use it to move files over to its hard disk to keep a backup copy of my stuff ?

    HI Donald,
For a wireless network, open System Preferences (Apple Menu) then select: Sharing.
Do this on both Macs. Make sure File Sharing is selected.
Of course, the 5 yr old iMac has to have wireless capability. If you aren't sure, open the System Profiler (Applications/Utilities). Under Contents on the left click Airport. If you don't see Airport then the older iMac can't be accessed over a LAN.
If Airport isn't an option, perhaps Bluetooth will work for you on both iMacs. Open System Preferences/Bluetooth. Make sure both iMacs are "discoverable" ...
It may hinge on which Mac OS X the older iMac is running. For Leopard v10.5 and v10.4, go here for Bluetooth help. http://support.apple.com/kb/ts2318

  • How to sell a Macbook Pro for parts

I would like to sell my 17" Macbook Pro online somewhere (ebay, maybe?) for parts. It received some water (wine) damage and will not boot up at all, but the logic board is fine. I want to keep my hard drive. How does this process work exactly? Do I disassemble the computer in order to sell? How do I market it on Ebay or whatever to make it sell for the highest price, while still being completely honest? It is completely new to me, but I am a photojournalism major and desperately need a functioning mac. I am hoping that selling this one will bring a bit of money in to contribute to buying a replacement.

Logic board doesn't sound fine to me...
Do I disassemble the computer in order to sell?
Do what you want with it.
How do I market it on Ebay or whatever to make it sell for the highest price, while still being completely honest?
First, see this:  http://pages.ebay.com/sellerinformation/howtosell/sellingbasics.html then don't lie in your item listing.

  • My iMac was stolen in a robbery - no files via iCloud (long story).  I have a new iMac which is set up and being used - how do I recover old iMac files from what looks like back-up files showing on my Time Capsule (also being used for this new iMac)?

My iMac was stolen - but I think there's a backup on my Time Capsule (which wasn't stolen). I have a new iMac which I've been using normally; I didn't use the 'Restore from...' option at the start because I thought the Time Capsule had nothing on it.  So how do I now recover files from the Time Machine?  I can see various back-ups on the Time Capsule, from various machines - laptops, etc. - but it's not letting me open any of them to see what they contain. Does anyone know how I access this information?

    Use migration assistant.
    See http://pondini.org/OSX/MigrateLion.html
Although this is only up to Mountain Lion it is still relevant to Mavericks.. only expect Mavericks to kick and buck a lot more.

  • Why does my old iMac ask for the Admin password when deleting apps?

I just bought a new 2013 iMac. I'm giving the old 2009 iMac to a friend. I installed the old OS onto it, then I updated it to Mavericks. I saw there were some programs still on it that I used to have so I went to delete them. Every time I moved the app into the trash it asked me for a password (I registered the 2009 iMac under my friend's id.) Why is it doing this?

I'm giving the old 2009 iMac to a friend.
You need to wipe your iMac securely so that none of your personal stuff remains on the system.  Your friend then can update & upgrade as they see fit.  Your friend should also set up a new Apple ID & password for security reasons.
    Clicky click--—> Erasing disks securely
    ================
Start up from your install disc, go to Disk Utility and select the disk and click erase - to securely erase data click Security Options and Erase Free Space which will entirely wipe your disk, overwriting it with zeros so that no data is recoverable.
Direct PDF download----> Mac OS X v10.5 Leopard - Installation and Setup Guide which has a section that details how to restore its software.

  • How to delete my old Apple id for icloud ?

After upgrading to OSX Maverick, on my iMac, my old Apple id pops up on startup
for sign-in to icloud. How do I delete this ? I am no longer using this Apple id and
deleted it a long time ago from my accounts.
    Thanks for your help !

    Thanks for your reply.
I have already tried what you suggested, however, instead of signing out of icloud, I chose, manage
apple id, which did not solve my problem. When I get to the manage apple id section, it shows my new
Apple id and not my old one. So this does not solve my problem.
I may not be stating the problem clearly. I will try again.
After upgrading my iMac to Mavericks, I get sign in to icloud message box on the screen
which has my old Apple id in it and is asking for the old password. I no longer use this Apple
id or password, and deleted it and the password some time ago under Manage my Apple id.
However, it now shows back up again on this iMac when I bootup, asking me to sign in to icloud
using that old, now deleted, Apple id. I have been pressing cancel and then it goes away but would
like to get the problem fixed if at all possible.

  • How to connect my old imac G4 (no airport card) to lynksys router

I am going to buy a new imac. I want to put my old G4 15" with no airport card installed into my daughter's room. I have a linksys wireless router WRT54G connected to my dsl modem. The linksys wireless router is linked to my imac via an ethernet cable. My laptop has an airport card that I can use the internet through. Can I put an airport express in her room and connect that way?

Oh, sorry, I was thinking you wanted to connect the AX wirelessly to the Linksys.
Yes, you can connect the AX to the Linksys with an Ethernet cable and then use the AX in "bridge" mode to allow wireless client to connect to it for Internet access.
To set up the AirPort Express Base Station (AX) as a bridge, using the AirPort Admin Utility, connect your computer directly (using an Ethernet cable) to the Ethernet port of the AX, and then, make these settings:
    Network tab
    - Distribute IP addresses (unchecked)
    - Apply the new setting.
    - Wait at least 5 minutes.

  • How to use my old iBook - unix for what?

I have an iBook with Mac OS X 10.0.4. And a 40 GB HD.
Temporarily I have used it as a webserver, but I think it's shame that I can't use it for something better.
Do anyone of you have ideas for how to put it to use as a server of some kind? Or something.
(Is harware is ok apart from a few minor problems.)
    Thanks!
    /groundliner

I am a bit used to Unix things, but I'm no experienced admin.
So I just thought that I'd find something useful to run on my old IBook.
I think that I have a Developer CD, maybe. But a better idea is if I can download some binaries for whatever.
I then would be thankful for what old software should be interesting, also maybe just for a test. Such as sendmail, although I have no idea what that would give, more than some knowledge. I suspect that would be too complex for me. Earlier I had some Mac SMTP software, I think. Maybe system 9.
But I also do not know how easy it is to lay hands on old binaries. I have searched for other old things on the Internet, that seems hard to get hold of.
    Thankful for all ideas!

  • Sell old mac pro for new mac pro?

Ok, so I have a mac pro, 3ghz quad, x1900xt, 4 gb ram. I figure I could sell this for at least 2799.
question is, will the base model (2.8 octo) be faster that my 3 ghz quad. I am not talking about the video card. But if I were encode a 5 minute video in quicktime, which would be faster, and by how much.
my quad has a higher clock speed, but not by much.
the 2.8 is octo, and has a higher front side bus.
Basically, would you sell a 3 ghz quad, to get the 2.8 ghz octo. I am willing to do it if i get the feedback saying there would be a noticeable difference. Let me know what you think

i also am thinking of doing it now, because I think if i wait i won't get as much off ebay. You should definetely do it, because you have the 2.66 quad, so you are definitely stepping up. I have the 3 ghz quad, so I don't know if i am stepping up. I think I will list my current 3 ghz quad on ebay tommorrow though. hopefully i can get at least 2799 for it.
well yes and no, since alot of the new MacPros probably havent shipped just yet....there is still of Quadcore stock out there, and youll be competing with alot of others doing the same thing, so it depends on timing and pricing.
also factoring in condition of the unit and accessories you can include to up the ante from the othe rsellers. maybe give it some time and see?
im in t he same position, i got my MacPro 2.66 and didnt realize it was already 9 months since they came out and i suspected some sort of revisions soon and couldnt refund it or anything as it was BTO w/ ATI
if you do do it soon, let me know how it goes. im just hesitant since im still liking Tiger, and alot of my stuff runs perfectly fine under tiger, i just dont want to regret having to focus on a whole new OS that still isnt patched things with alot of Programs/Apps.

  • How do you remove old phone number for contact

How can I remove a contacts old phone number? I've edited with new number but when I go to text all previous numbers for that contact still show. Can't figure out how to make old numbers go away. Any help would be appreciated

Unfortunately, at the present time the only way to delete these autocomplete suggestions is to restore your phone as new, without using your backup, and start over.

  • How can improve performace of iMac 24" for FCS?

    Hi,
    I just bought iMac Intel Core2Duo 24"
    3.06GHz/ 2GB Ram/ 750GB HD/ 512 VRAM.
How can I improve or maximize its performance so it would run faster in FCP for Renders, Motion, Compressor and other pro apps?
I do understand that I need to add memory and that I'll add but aside from that,
what else do I need to do to make it faster?
    Thanks,
    Zia

    Yes you can: http://ftp.georgetek.com/George/FCPscatchdisk.png
Just keep in mind that read/write speeds to an external USB drive are less than half of what you are getting internally. Your best bet for an external editing drive would be FireWire 800.
rkaufmann87, no problem I do the same thing all the time.

  • How do I get old display back for Podcasts?

The display on iTunes in my iMac has switched to displaying an icon and the name of the podcast in one column and listing each episode in another column to the right with a couple of lines describing the episode. Before, it simply listed the title of the podcast with an arrowhead that I could click to list the episodes beneath the title.
Does anyone know why this happened and whether there is a way to reverse what I currently have? Thanks.

Sorry, but according to Apple, iTunes Store: All Sales Are Final
    You can avoid accidental purchases.
From the iTunes menu bar click iTunes / Preferences then select the Parental tab.
    Select:  iTunes Store
    Click OK.

  • I want to sell my iphone 4 for parts but....

I cannot delete my personal data. Can I remove something particular from the logic board or the whole board itself to not have my personal data compromised?

I'm not worried about retrieving the data, just removing it. I have numerous passwords, credit card info, social security card numbers, photos, ect that I wouldn't want someone having access to so physically remove that part that holds the data, or if I have to take the whole logic board.
