How do I send a fax?

Hello everybody. I'm new to Macs and I would like to know how to send a fax from my iMac without using a fax machine. Many thanks.

You will need something like an external Apple USB modem for your new iMac. They are relatively inexpensive, I believe around US$50 in price and physically small (you could let it just dangle off the back of your computer or use a small velcro strip to secure it to the backside). That will need to attach to a plain ol' telephone service (POTS) analog copper twisted pair line. I'm also making the assumption that Apple offers an equivalent product that is compatible with your country's telephone fax protocols, line voltages, and so forth. I recall one thread in this forum where an individual reported being able to fax over a VoIP adapter, but generally speaking, I do not believe that that is the norm. Once you have your Apple USB modem plugged into one of your iMac's USB ports and the other end plugged into the RJ-11 telephone jack that your analog phone service arrives on (at least the RJ-11 is the standard telephone connector type here in the US), then all you need to do is go through the motions of printing a document. In the print dialog box, there is a button in the lower left that says PDF. You click on it and you are presented with several other options, one being fax PDF. Click on that, fill in the phone number, and other miscellaneous information that would be associated with a very "plain Jane" cover sheet (that you yourself normally won't see, unless you see the fax at the receiving end at a later time), you hit the Fax button and away it goes.

  • How do I send a fax using Firefox or Gmail?

How do I send a fax using firefox or gmail? I have printed a set of instructions which start out with the use of a verification tool to determine whether the number I want to send a fax to is within the "fax service area". I don't understand this statement. I can use my fax machine to dial the number, most any number world wide, and send a fax to the number. Why would I want to use Firefox or Gmail to send a fax when I already have a fax machine? Sometimes my fax machine is busy for longer than I can wait.

Are you connected to a phone line? Have you a fax modem? Other than that use a free fax web site:

This model does not include e-Fax. The product specifications are here: Product Specifications. If you want a model with e-Fax, you should check out the HP Photosmart eStation C510.

  • How can I Send a fax directly with HP Officejet Pro 8500

    Hello
I have a printer of the type
    hp officejet 7100 series
When I want to send a fax directly, a text document, for example, type it on the printer

And converts it to a fax machine directly.
Now I buy a new printer
HP Officejet Pro 8500 A909g Series
I want to do the same work.
But there is no print on the fax.
I had to I do a print of the file manually and then sent through the printer
I want to resolve the issue
    Send a fax directly

Just to make sure, this is how the process of faxing from Word is supposed to work, in general terms:
    1
Create and save a Word document. You'll need a saved file on your computer before you're able to fax it.
    2
In Microsoft Word, you can use the Fax Wizard to fax your Word document if you have Word and an Internet connection capable of doing so.
    3
Click "File," then "Send To," then "Fax Recipient." This should open up a Fax Wizard window separate from the window of the document.
    4
Follow the onscreen instructions of the Fax Wizard. If your computer is not capable of sending faxes, the Wizard will indicate this.
    5
Enter the file, recipients' names and numbers and information from your coversheet. Click "Finish" at the bottom of the window.
    6
If your computer is for some reason not capable of using the Microsoft Fax Wizard, you'll need to download a different Internet fax program from the Web.

  • How do I send a fax using Word for Mac Lion?

I have an iMac with Lion 10.7.4 and use Microsoft Word for Mac 2011.  My internet connection is Broadband ADSL.
I wish to periodically send a fax - in days gone by I have used PageSender.
    Any suggestions?

Can you send a fax over that line? I don't think so. I think you'll have to purchase a fax modem, maybe like this one:
    http://www.amazon.com/USRobotics-USR5637-FaxModem-Windows-Linux/dp/B0013FDLM0
I assume it installs a "printer" that is actually a fax driver. You would then print to that "printer". Whether that's how it works or not, I'm sure the fax modem comes with some utility for sending faxes through it.

  • How do I send a fax from my A210 using the internal modem?

I have an A210 laptop with Windows Vista Home Premium and Office 2007 Professional and use the wireless network card to connect to our broadband modem.
For my business I would like to be able to send faxes through the normal telephone line direct from my laptop, rather than buying a fax machine.
There is a Toshiba Software Modem attached to COM3, but I can't work out how to use it to send a fax.
On older computers I have been able to set up the fax modem as a printer driver and have sent faxes directly from Word using a print-to-fax option.
I can't find anything in the general Windows help or Word help that shows me how to do this on my laptop.
    Any suggestions gratefully received.

I may say that there is no need to buy a fax machine for Faxing sending purposes. As soon an you have a computer and internet connection go ahead and subscribe to Popfax.com Internet Fax Provider. Fax Provider . Low rates and a very professional Customer Care assistance.
I use the The Zoom/Modem V.92 PC Card Plus on my Toshiba laptop - it is a 56K fax modem that plugs into the PCMCIA slot . Good performance and it has an on-board controller and Digital Signal Processor which is a nice feature. Also, has Modem on Hold so when you receive a fax or voice call, you don't lose your Internet connection. Hope this is helpful and good luck!

  • How do I send a fax with OSX?

Up until now I have been using FXStff, and a modem. With changes on my dedicated fax phone line, I can only use 120 minutes a month of prepaid service. If I use the next plan, they will detect my faxing, and kick me off the plan. So much for helping the small business person . . .
I heard from a tech a while ago, that I could send faxes through the system software. Does that mean it goes through the DSL service, or do I still need to pay for minutes? Also, can my client (who uses a selectronic typewriter and a fax machine), still send me faxes in her ancient way? Where do I start? Can I make this work, or is there something on the internet I need to find?

If you have a regular analog phone line, and your phone company offers "distinctive ring" (a.k.a. "custom ring"), voice and fax can peacefully coexist on a single phone line. There is a file that you have to edit using Terminal.app, and every time there is a system upgrade from 10.4.x to 10.4.(x+1) the file reverts back to its original state so you have to re-edit it, but what the heck? A small price to pay...
Here's the link to the article: http://www.macosxhints.com/article.php?story=20031111132356616. The article refers to Page Sender and SBC but the approach works for my 6-yr-old G4/867 with built-in analog phone data modem and OS 10.4.x's built-in fax send/receive capabilities, and my phone company, who offers distinctive ring. There are some blog posts following that article that point out that certain modems (internal and Apple-branded external ones) and computers don't support distinctive ring, though. So this may or may not work for you. Depends on what you've got.
Of course, to fax, you just do that through the print dialog box of whatever application you are using at the time. I have heard of some problems with people getting the Fax button not be grayed out. I don't remember if I had that issue. If I recall correctly from reading elsewhere, set up as much as you can in System Preferences for your Fax (Print&Fax). Then launch an Apple application like TextEdit. Print --> Fax --> Send Fax and that should create the fax driver in your user's folder's Library folder's Printers folder called InternalModem.app (at least that's what it's called on my computer).
Maybe it's just my imagination, but it does seem to take a long time to send or receive a fax, though, but the already-paid-for built-in capability of PDF faxes and no paper is something that really appeals to me.

  • How do I use my networked HP Officejet to send a fax from my Macbook Pro?

I have a Macbook Pro which I use in my office running OS X 10.7. We have a networked HP Officejet 6500 E710n-z. Ideally, I would like to be able to fax directly from Microsoft Word using this printer using the Fax PDF option. However, I cannot seem to figure out how to do this. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

In order to send and receive a fax you need a fax machine connected to a phone line. What you are likely seeing is an efax. There are many efax services, some free. Efax allows you to send and receive faxes to your computer without using a fax machine or phone line. Using efax you can send a fax to a fax machine connected to a phone line.
    Do a search for efax.

I need to send a fax, but now apple's modem is incompatible on Lion... how can I do?

I understand that you bought it 2 years ago, but it has been around for a long time.
I totally hear about the bugs you were dealing with, I have been lucky enough not to get bit by anything that isn't a minor issue. Losing my VPN connection would drive me NUTS =)
It just sounded like you were saying that the only reason you dropped  back from Lion was because of the modem. My bad.

  • How to make a PDF embedded image append a report and send via fax electronically from MS SSRS 2012?

How can I make a PDF embedded image append a SSRS 2012 report and send via fax all electronically?  Is this possible?
Thanks in advance for your time!

    Hello,
    1. The report item Image can be used to display the image which  embedded in the report, stored in a database, stored on the report server, or stored elsewhere on the Web.
For example, you can embedded the PDF image in the report and stored as text in the report definition.
2.Reporting Services includes an e-mail delivery extension and a file share delivery extension which you can send report to user or group through e-mail or send the report to a shared location on your network.
If you want to send the report to FAX, you may try to create a custom delivery extension depend on your faxing software.

  • How do I disable call waiting when sending a FAX on a Photosmart C410a All-in-One?

When sending a FAX from my computer, I added *70 to the dialing prefix to disable Call Waiting.  The problem appears to be that either my C410a does not recognize the * or perhaps I must add a pause after the *70.  The user guide says to hit the up arrow to insert a pause but I think that might only work for FAXes that are dialed from the All-in-One, not the computer.  In another place in the User Guide, it instructs to hit asterisk twice ** to get a pause.  When dialing from the computer, if I hit ** I get ** not a pause.  (I use Comcast and they do not give a new dial tone after hitting *70 so I don't think the pause is necessary.)
If I remove the *70 from the dialing sequence on the computer, the FAX goes right through but a Call Waiting signal might stop the FAX.
Anyone know how to include *70 for computer dialing?

Hello LCHutton, I hope you are well
I read your post about your attempts to disable call waiting when sending a fax. I would suggest looking in the fax menu on the printer and turning off the ECM (Error Correction Mode), and also changing the Fax Speed to slow.
I hope either of those steps help you!
If the troubleshooting does not help resolve your issue, I would then suggest calling HP's Technical Support to see what their options are for you. If you are calling within North America, the number is 1-800-474-6836 and for all other regions: click here.
