How do i send a quicktime file thats 16 gigs to someone

im trying to send files to people that are quicktime files and are at the most 20 gigs. these are large files. how do i do this? And the clients are PC people who are not computer savvy. Niether am I.
You basically have three options:
1) Physically send the content on optical media, USB flash drive, or a memory card,
2) Send the files peer-to-peer via one of the IM services, or
3) Post the files to an "online" server or storage device. Of the three, This is probably the most common method. If you do a bit of research on the Internet, you should be able to find more than 50 "Cloud" storage services available. Many are free but limit your free storage to 2-5 GBs of free storage. Some allow you to "earn" additional free space. All allow you to purchase additional space if needed. DropBox is said to dominate this form of service and supposedly accounts for up to 20% of all bandwidth consummed globally by browser-based file sharing services. Personal "Cloud" devices are also gaining popularity of late. These are basically UPnP protocol NAS drives which can also be accessed by browser remotely over the the Internet.
Each of the options mentioned above has its own advantages and disadvantages so you may wish to do a bit of research to compare benefits before making any decision.

8/21/2006. How can I split a QuickTime file in two? I saved a two hour videotape converted by PYRO A/V LINK to iBook G4 combo into a file of 24.5 Gb, and I saved to QuickTime into 536 mgs. Of course, it took half a day. When I went to copy it as video (536 mgs) onto a CD of 700 mg capacity, Toast 7 said it required 1100 mgs and couldn't do it. I have QuickTime Pro, got just recently. I would be very happy to learn how to split it, so to copy each of the split pieces onto 2 CD's, for my own purposes. Many, many thanks. Chuck Yopst. Kirk, Thanks for your post Monday 8/21. Interesting how things worked out. I split the OuickTime file--of my retired uncle Church of the Brethren pastor's 50th wedding anniversary, and came up with two folders. Each contained four more folders, and inside folder Mvseg was file Avseq.dat which contained the video material and, when double clicked, started playing that half of the story on Windows 98SE. It just so happens that my uncle's PC operating system is a Windows 98SE. All this from QuickTime 7.0 which Windows 98SE would play the audio but not the video. Then a week later, yesterday in fact, in looking through iDVD help I found your solution, which heretofore I had no idea of. I had to go into System Preferences--Hardware--CDs & DVDs, and set these for "Open with 'Ask what you want to do'." The factory settings were to "open these when inserted" without that "Ask"ing. So then I was able and did follow your solution and it worked, but as a single QuickTime file, playable on Windows XP and Windows 2000 and Macintosh but not Windows 98SE. If your files are this large, ExportPDF is the wrong tool for you. You need Adobe Acrobat, which runs locally and does not need to send your files to Adobe.

OK. A couple of things. You don't really have a text file. It's a scan, so it's actually a photo of letters that isn't searchable or stored as text. I'm sure that if it was really text it could be measured in tiny KB (not MB), like a long email. If you want to convert it to real text, use some software that runs Optical Character Recognition (OCR) on it. That would result in an extremely small file for truly searchable text.
OCR software comes with many scanners but usually not with the cheapest scanners. Some shareware can do it. Acrobat can do it (the paid version not the free version).

That may seem bizarre but it is normal. A file must be re-encoded for network compatibility during e-mail transmission, and that causes some types of files to bloat back up. If you can, OCR it so that you are no longer trying to send a bloated scanned photo of words and letters. If you continue to try to send it as a scan, it will remain hundreds of times larger than it needs to be. If you don't have a way of running OCR on it, at least Malcolm's suggestions above will help bring it down, maybe enough to send. But the form it is in right now is a tremendous waste of disk space.

Before your coworker does this have him/her package the ID CS5 file.
Then open the packaged file and export that to IDML into the same folder.
Then zip up the whole thing and send that to you. This will assure you
have the links as well as the ID file.

Basically I like the control over the compiling process that I get by using Ant - but I really want traces to come up immediately without having to switch contexts.
I have an ant file that successfully launches a swf in the flashplayer - but I don't know how to make the flex console start displaying the trace output. I assume that I will have to point it to the appropriate trace output file - but I am not sure how to have ant even address the console. Is this possible?
Here is the the target node from my ANT file:

For information about the Other category in the Storage display, see this support article. If the Storage display seems to be inaccurate, try rebuilding the Spotlight index.
Empty the Trash if you haven't already done so. If you use iPhoto, empty its internal Trash first:
iPhoto ▹ Empty Trash
Do the same in other applications, such as Aperture, that have an internal Trash feature. Then restart the computer. That will temporarily free up some space.
According to Apple documentation, you need at least 9 GB of available space on the startup volume (as shown in the Finder Info window) for normal operation—not the mythical 10%, 15%, or any other percentage. You also need enough space left over to allow for growth of the data. There is little or no performance advantage to having more available space than the minimum Apple recommends. Available storage space that you'll never use is wasted space.
See this support article for some simple ways to free up storage space.
You can more effectively use a tool such as OmniDiskSweeper (ODS) or GrandPerspective (GP) to explore the volume and find out what's taking up the space. You can also delete files with it, but don't do that unless you're sure that you know what you're deleting and that all data is safely backed up. That means you have multiple backups, not just one. Note that ODS only works with OS X 10.8 or later. If you're running an older OS version, use GP.
Deleting files inside an iPhoto or Aperture library will corrupt the library. Any changes to a photo library must be made from within the application that created it. The same goes for Mail files.
Proceed further only if the problem isn't solved by the above steps.
ODS or GP can't see the whole filesystem when you run it just by double-clicking; it only sees files that you have permission to read. To see everything, you have to run it as root.
Back up all data now.
If you have more than one user account, make sure you're logged in as an administrator. The administrator account is the one that was created automatically when you first set up the computer.
Install the app you downloaded in the Applications folder as usual. Quit it if it's running.
Triple-click anywhere in the corresponding line of text below on this page to select it, then copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C:

Launch the built-in Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Paste into the Terminal window by pressing command-V. You'll be prompted for your login password, which won't be displayed when you type it. Type carefully and then press return. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you see a message that your username "is not in the sudoers file," then you're not logged in as an administrator. Ignore any other messages that appear in the Terminal window.
The application window will open, eventually showing all files in all folders, sorted by size. It may take a few minutes for the app to finish scanning.
I don't recommend that you make a habit of doing this. Don't delete anything as root. If something needs to be deleted, make sure you know what it is and how it got there, and then delete it by other, safer, means. When in doubt, leave it alone or ask for guidance.
When you're done with the app, quit it and also quit Terminal.

Depends on the extent of the edits. You will need Acrobat in any case. If the edits or minor, you can use the text edit tool. For major edits, you need to request the original file be sent or see if you can Save As a DOC or related file type. PDFs are not really structured for editing and you are asking for a lot of grief if you want to do much. Exporting is the best way, or even better simply asking the author for the original (non-PDF type).
