How do I send SMS only at ALL TIMES with an iPhone to ALL contacts? iOS 8 now forces all Apple users to use iMessage all the time with all other iOS users. The option to send as SMS only is subordinate to iMessage in iOS 8 settings and CANNOT be turned off to send only SMS texts to another iOS device! This is a serious privacy issue for all households using iOS and doing family sharing, including over a number of iOS devices, under one member's Apple ID. Why should business conversations or financial conversations between parents be readable on an iPad in the hands of a teenager or a seven year old? The answer is not as simple as "Just don't enable iMessage on your other devices," because amy family that shares the Apple ID password is vulnerable to teenagers particularly hacking into iMessage to monitor, for example, what their parents are saying. If I were Samsung or Google I would hammer this issue immediately and continually until it is fixed by Apple (and I'm not sure why they haven't yet). iMessage is a convenience but it has this serious limitation given the architecture of the Apple universe. Apple simply cannot force all its users to conduct text messaging in arbitrarily limited way, any more than it was able to force all its users to switch from Google Maps. When will Apple fix this?

The SMS-only choice used to be on the same menu level as iMessage, but now it is locked WITHIN iMessage, and is not available as a choice unless iMessage is activated. Then it is limited solely to being used if iMessage is not available.
I'm sure their argument is that they are saving their customers money because iMessage is free, but they are imposing an opportunity cost on 100 percent of their user base in the guise of saving that money. What they are really doing is entrapping faithful users such as myself further within the Apple ecosystem. If I hadn't already spent thousands of dollars on my iTunes library I might consider a Galaxy ... Samsung does not deserve to regain any momentum if they can't figure out how to exploit this.
Turning off iMessage does not prevent you from sending messages to other Apple users. You can send an SMS to any iPhone without your own iMessage turned on, even if it is turned on on their iPhone.
The SMS-only option is: Turn off iMessage. Literally. That's it.

I'm not completely clear on the GSM / LTE network frequencies in US vs Argentina, but I do know that cross-compatibility can be an issue when buying from one country and using in another. Apple products in particular have this problem. What this sounds like to me is that the phone is not compatible with Argentinian networks; or your friend had an AT&T phone and jail-broke it. This is against the end user licensing agreement, and when the phone is next updated is likely to jam the phone.

The question explains itself. I had AVG anti-virus, and now that I've updated Firefox I can't even use that!! I'm pretty pissed and frustrated.

MS Word is not an Apple product so it could not've downloaded with all the Apple software updates.

What program were you running to do that?
In any case boot from your OS installer disk and run Repair Disk from Disk Uility. -
I just downloaded the updated software and now can't shut down open programs like I used to by holding downthe round button, having them appear at the bottom of the screen, holding them down for the "x" to appear and then closing them by clicking "x". I can get the program icons to appear, but don't know how to shut them off now.

Just use one Apple ID for App Store, and separate Apple ID's for everything else.
Set one Apple ID for App Store on all three iPhones, and then for iMessage, Facetime, Photostream and iCloud - separate for each headset.
You can't undo firmware upgrade. Just make separate ID's because there is the point of using one Apple ID for App Store (Financial resons), but using one apple ID for iCloud and rest is absolutely pointless. -
Well, I guess my heading says it all. I am trying to delete multiple (like A LOT) of photos from my camera roll on my iphone 5 without connecting to my computer. All other instructions I've read on here do not work. (I'm not saying I read ALL instructions though) But the ones I've read, do not work.
I DO NOT want to connect to my computer to do this, so please read what I am asking! It HAS to be possible, it's just downright silly if it isn't and I'll be ****** about the 3 grand I've given to Apple in the last few months for various reasons...

If your friend doesn't want others to send messages via iMessage even when he has wi-fi access he can turn iMessage off in Settings > Messages. It depends on how you are planning to use this feature.
You can set up a mobile using special software in order to interface to it programatically - you can then, via this software interface, use this mobile to send SMS's.
Some service providers support an e-mail interface. Where you send the SMS as a the e-mail content and the mobile number as the recipient's address, or as the subject of the e-mail. Some companies provide a software server to interface with one or more service providers - this allows you to fairly easily use this server gateway to send SMS's for you. Such a gateway server will typically support a telnet interface - allowing you to send SMS's via it from inside PL/SQL.
I've used all these options, and I've found the best one to be the last option. It is the easiest to use from a programming perspective. It comes with various management and reporting tools. So you need to do the very minimal in managing this whole SMS interface. -

OK, I don't know that is true and you probably guessed it, but I'm not a big fan of the Wikipedia concept, but that doesn't matter as long as you understand that the information contained within Wikipedia is not vetted in any traditional way. And yes, I do use Wikipedia occasionally as a resource but I do it knowing that accuracy of the information is always in question.

Try restarting your phone while you hold down the power AND the sleep button at the same time.
This defenitly is a software bug and normally there should be this button. -

Sending as SMS to a non-iOS phone is enabled by default as long as SMS is provisioned by your carrier.
Settings > Messages > Send as SMS > ON is required if you want to SMS to an iOS device which has iMessage enabled but fails to connect.
Settings > Messages > Show Subject Field > irrelevant to whether SMS or iMessage is used, ony if you want a subject field sent with the message. -
When I send a message in a group with non-iPhone users it appears as "New Multimedia Message." One of my friends in the group also has an iPhone and his doesn't appear this way, how do I change my settings so it appears as a normal text message and not an mms?
