This usually means that you have not set up the outgoing mail server settings correctly. You must set up incoming and outgoing servers separately, and user ID and password for outgoing are NOT optional, even if it says they are.

Confusion arises as the notion that you would want to remove a pic from iPhoto but keep it doesn't make a whole lot of sense. It's like saying I want to remove one address from Address Book, but still keep it on my Mac. The point of iPhoto and such apps is that they are used to manage your photos. Anything that you need to do with the pics cn be done either with or via iPhoto.

Just depends on what type of mail protocol you are using. Works just fine for IMAP or Exchange.

To do this, you must be using an IMAP email account type.
If you are using a POP mail account it is not possible.

Yep. You can set up MobileMe as a regular IMAP account and specify the "from" address that way; however, your emails will show as "From [email protected] on behalf of Your Name" in the recipient's inbox. I think it kind of defeats the purpose of sending from an alias if it's just going to display your user ID.

Synching sent emails from iPhone 4 to Outlook

I have a netspace email address in Australia and have changed it to an imap incoming mail server address as other discussion topics have indicated you need an imap account to synch emails across all devices. My incoming emails synch no problems but when I send emails from my iPhone 4, they do not appear either on the netspace webmail account or in my outlook. The outgoing server address is mail.iinet.net.au. Similarly, the iPhone 4 does not show the file structure that I have set up on Outlook. I have spoken to Netspace and visited the Apple store and no one has been able to help me.
Does anyone have an answer to this problem?

After setting your email account on your iPhone to be an IMAP account, you may also want to go into the Account settings and check the folders there. I do not remember if the default folders for inbox, sent items, and trash are all ones that are stored locally on the iPhone, or if it points to the corresponding folders on your server. I seem to recall that the sent messages, and trash needed to be changed if I wanted those to be saved to folders on the server and not local ones in the iPhone.

Hi,
I'm using the standard email application on my N8 (no Anna yet) with a POP3&SMTP account. I need to export the messages I sent with my N8. They are stored in two "sent" folders
I need to import these messages into the email software on my computer or an email account on a server.
How is that done? I could not find any export tool in the Nokia Suite, the PC Suite or N8 itself. There is a "Best MessageStore" app in the Store, but it only creates plaintext or CSV files, which I can't import anywhere.
I could use an IMAP folder, but I could not find a way to change the current setup from POP3/SMTP to IMAP. I can create a new account with new folders on the phone, but then I don't know how to copy the old email messages into that new IMAP folder.
Furthermore, I tried importing the email messages to a Nokia N9, but the import routine seems to ignore email messages.
Any ideas?

Belle is the first version that lets you move items out of the Sent folder into other folders.
The Suite will take a backup of your message store before upgrading to Belle and restore it afterwards. You could then move items in the Sent into other IMAP folders.
You also might find NbuExplorer on Sourceforge.net useful, it allows you to look inside the backup files taken by Nokia Suite. You could backup the message store and examine it without needing to upgrade to Belle if you're not upgrading for a reason.
Your messages are stored in C:\Private\1000484b but you don't have permission to view them yourself with the File Manager unless you've jailbroken first.

If you have a POP account, this will not happen. If you have an IMAP or Exchange account signing in as the other poster stated will work. So, it depends on what type of account you have.

A better solution is if your email provider uses IMAP. IMAP sync email folders between multiple devices. Meaning any device will receive the email, all sent email can be seen on the devices. If you delete email from one device the email is deleted from all the other devices. Check with your email provider to see if they offer IMAP services.
If they do not your choices are to 1) configure email on the PC to keep Mail on the mail server or 2) change email providers to something like Gmail or Outlook.com (as examples). FWIW I use Cox IMAP email and fully sync email between a Win 8.1 Update 1 laptop, a Win 7 desktop, an iPad 4, an iPhone 4 and an iPhone 5S.

If you sent the photos directly from the Photos app, it is quite possible that you selected Message rather than Mail when you emailed them to yourself. I assume that is how they ended up in the Messages app. I also assume that you no longer have the old phone or you could just email them to yourself again. Is that a correct assumption? If you cannot access the photos on the old phone any longer, and you can see them in the messages app randomly, try closing the Messages app completely and reset the device and then see if the photos reappear.
In order to close the Messages app, you have to drag the app up from the multitasking display. Double tap the home button and you will see apps lined up going left to right across the screen. Swipe to get to Messages and then swipe "up" on the app preview thumbnail to close it.
Next, reset the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider if it appears on the screen - let go of the buttons. Let the iPad start up.
