How do I separate the music from the audiobooks?

This sounds like a stupid question (well, maybe it is) but I can't solve this problem.
I have separate directories for my favorite songs, podcasts, audiobooks etc. Let's say I pull a new audiobook from iTunes to my audiobook-list on the iPod. It also shows up on my Music list, meaning when I use the shuffle function I suddenly hear a track of the audiobook instead of just music.
What am I doing wrong?

All audio content will show up under Songs. You cannot change this.
I would tell Apple you would like that changed...

However, you can set it so that a certain song (or audiobook) is not played during a shuffle. To do this right click the song and go to Get Info. Click the options tab. Check "Skip when shuffling" and click OK. Update your iPod with your computer.

Your i-device was not designed for unique storage of your media. It is not a backup device and media transfer was planned with you maintaining a master copy of your media on a computer which is itself independently backed up against loss. To use a device with a new computer you transfer the content from the old computer (or its backup) directly to the new computer, not the device to the new computer. Syncing is one way, computer to device, updating the device content to the content on the computer, not updating or restoring content on a computer. As far as I know you can't, which sort of makes sense, it seems logical to pause whatever you are doing while you take a phone call, which after all is the primary function of a phone.

In iTunes, select the music you want to delete (⌘+a to select all) and hit Delete on your keyboard.
Also delete the music files in Finder. Also make sure you have your own Apple ID and iTunes account and logged in.

Are you pressing the Sync button to transfer music after connecting your iPhone or do you have the option checked to 'Automatically Sync when the iPhone is connected?'
Have you tried manually dragging and dropping music from your library into your phone?

It's happening because you are using the same Apple ID for iMessage. You don't need to do anything with your iCloud account to fix this. You should create a separate Apple ID for her device to use with iMessage and FaceTime. (You can continue to share the same ID for purchasing from the iTunes and App stores if you wish; it doesn't need to be the same as the ID you use for other services.) Once you've done this, on her device go to Settings>Messages>Send & Receive, tap the ID, sign out, then sign back in with the new ID. Do the same thing in Settings>FaceTime.
Another caution is that if you share and iCloud account with her, any data you both sync with the account such as contacts, will be merged and the merged data will appear on both devices. If you don't want to end up with each other's contacts, calendars, etc. on your devices, you should have separate iCloud accounts to. If you want to make this change, go to Settings>iCloud on her device and tap Delete Account. (This only deletes the account from the device, not from iCloud.) When prompted about what to do with the iCloud data be sure to choose Keep On My iPod. Then set up a new iCloud account with her new ID, turn on iCloud data syncing again, and when prompted choose Merge.

One of the most recommended is Yamipod. This is a free program that transfers music from iPod back to the computer. However, it does not transfer playcounts/ratings etc.
Other free programs are Pod Player, SharePod and Floola and iDump andiPodRobot.
If you want to recover just the structure of playlists from the iPod (and not the actual song files themselves), there's iRepo for Windows. which I understand has this feature along with all the standard features for these programs.
iPodRip also has the feature enabling you to reconstruct playlists.
There is also CopyTrans. This does preserve ratings/playcounts etc if those are important to you but this program is not free. It also supports video transfer.

As you know, your iPhone 5 is not compatible with our iBook G4. To get your music in iTunes from your iBook to your iPhone you would need to migrate the music files to a newer intel based Mac. A Mac which has Mac OS X 10.6 or higher installed. Then sync your iPhone 5.

How to I transfer my music from my ipod to the new hard drive?

My windows laptop crashed two months ago and I lost everything on it. I was able to get the hard drive replaced but all of my music is on my ipod (nano - 2nd edition, I think). Only a small percentage is purchased via itunes.
I have been googling how to now move my music from my ipod to my new hard drive but most solutions assume that I still have the old laptop/hard drive. I know I was able to do this previously when the hard drive crashed, but I can't seem to remember now as it was about 5 years ago. I'm afraid to do anything just now as I don't want it syncing to an empty library and have my ipod wiped clean.
Is there any way of moving the music from my ipod to my itunes library on the new hard drive?? Please help as I don't want to have to reload over 100 cd's

How to I extract my music from an iPod and add it to the library if it's not linked to the original ID anymore?

I have an ipod previously linked someone else's account. We used to share the library and they used to update my iPod for me. Now I have my own ID and laptop with iTunes. How to I extract my music from the iPod and add it to the library ? At present, I cannot do it because I am not authorised on the account the music was orginally purchased on - but I have my iPod still.
Is there anyway for me to extract the music files from my iPod and download them into my new iTunes library and using my own Apple ID?
Help! I paid for most of this stuff but they left with their computer and now I can't even update my iPod!

Unless you want to learn more than most of us want to know about being a good geek, you'll need a third-party software utility to do that. CopyTrans worked well for me when I moved songs from an old iPod to a new computer for a friend.
So 1.) set up your (PC?) computer with iTunes, 2.) get something like CopyTrans which imports the stuff from your iPod to iTunes on your computer, 3.) make sure all the files from your iPod got copied, and then 4.) set iTunes to be the Mother Ship, which will then write all your old and future stuff to your iPod.
Make sure you've 5.) tested a backup strategy for your iTunes library going forward, because Apple would prefer you'd buy everything again from them. iTunes no longer has a good, native backup utility.
