How do I set default font size?

Some programs (most importantly for me, Thunderbird) use a default font size that is too small for my eye comfort. Some (such as Firefox) allow me to change the font size, but Thunderbird does not (though there is a menu item to change font size, which does not work).
I gather that such programs are using a default system font size. So I would like to change this. Some Help articles suggested that I could do this from the Font Panel, but they give no indication where to find the Font Panel. I cannot find it in System Preferences or via the Spotlight.
I am using OS X 10.4.7
I am computer-literate, but new to the Mac, having had this computer for about a week and a half.
P.S. In Thunderbird -> Preferences -> Fonts there is an option to configure the fonts used by Thunderbird. The settings affect messages, but not the main window with the message list. However, at this point I'd really like to set the system default so all programs that use the system default will be affected.
Thanks.
Daniel

This still does not work.
I tried all of them.
Theme Font & Size Changer
Big Buttons
Default FullZoom Level
NoSquint.
It only works for that page of that web site, as soon as you leave you start all over again.
Can't we just say Firefox messed up and needs to revert to the way it used to work without have to do ANYTHING to adjust any sizing.
This is utterly ridiculous.
It's a web browser for GOD sakes...not the OS. It shouldn't be doing anything but displaying web sites with NO INTERVENTION by the user for each and every page.
Why are programers always looking for ways to take a working product and make it useless???

The text editor is the text area that you use on the webmail (Yahoo, Hotmail) website to create a new mail.
You can compare that with the ''Post new message'' text area that you use to create a new post on this forum.
Just above the text area that you use to enter the message text there is usually a button bar with buttons that allows some text formatting like Bold and Italic and can also include a button to make a clickable hyperlink.
Check the tooltip of each button by hovering with the mouse over each button.

  • Setting default font size in Safari

Hi. I like to set my font size in Safari to one level below the default. I usually do this everytime I open up a Safari window and hit Command+Minus or go to View > make text smaller. Anyway, I was wondering if there was a way I could set this to default so I did not have to do it everytime I launched Safari?

    mrurmil --
You can go into the main Safari Menu, (upper left of top Menu)
    Go to Preferences>Advanced
and then lower the size font designated in
"Never use font sizes smaller than _"
Mine's set to 9 which is pretty small,
but I like it better. I believe it was set to 11 or 12 natively.
    Hope this helps.

  • How to change the default font size in X11?

I was a PC/linux user and have switched to use Mac lately (MBP Snow leopard 10.6.8).
Everything's been running perfectly on Mac so far and I really like it, until I have to run some programs on XQuartz/X11 (XQuart 2.7.0).
The default font size in the Xterm is too small. And I hate it that I have to change it everytime i open a new terminal (via vt fonts menu, ctrl+right-mouse click).
Is there a way to change the default font size "permanently" in XQuartz/X11 ??
This may be a stupid question to ask in the developer forum but i cant really solve it.
There's only config. file ~/.Xdefaults they have mentioned so far on Google but i really cant find it regarding to the directorty.
Thank you very much in advance.

You would be surprised to find out that is not like this, to get your account blocked you really need to do a lot of damage and posts are not removed unless they are illegal, and *always* it needs more than a person to delete something. That's a site managed by the community, not by some people put in place by a company.
It is always acceptable to link to external resources as long these resources do provide additional usefull information. Clearly the thread on that side contained much more information than the one here. I observed people linking from there to this forum, but it's not so common, and that's not due to the policy, just because here is more chat and less usefull information.... you will not see endless threads of replies on with "yes, I have the same problem" there.
Shortly, this is "discussions" and is quite different in approach than the SE model, where everythign is aimed towards getting the be answers UP and removing all the nonsense.
I wish that Apple would invest more in discussion, and going towards making this more practical.

  • How can I set the font size of a form field in the fdf file?

I need to dynamically set the font size of a field to accommodate text of varying length, automatic font size won't work in this case. It seems like this can be done in the FDF but I have tried several variants without success. Could someone help out with a real example of what the syntax in the fdf should look like.
I am using Acrobat Professional 8.1 but the created fdf will need to work with Reader also.

I think that the font size has to be set in the form itself, not the FDF.

  • How do you set default fonts and default text box sizes on bound form fields?

I am using an existing PDF as a template to build my form in designer.
I am dragging my objects from the schema window to the form and when I drop it on the form it is way too big - so for every field I do this with I am left to resize and reset the font to every bound object i drop on the page!
Is there a way to set the default font and the default dimensions of the bound text boxes I am droping on the PDF form page?
Thanks to anyone who can help!

iWork '09 DVD set (containing Pages '09 v4.0, Numbers '09 v2.0, and Keynote '09 v5.0) is available from Amazon for USD $20. Apple no longer provides retail store, or OS X App Store downloads. You will need to apply the Apple iWork 9.3 updater afterwards to bring these applications to their n.3 (e.g. Pages '09 v4.3) last versions. You will have an /Applications/iWork '09 folder afterwards.
I would also launch /Applications/Utilities/Disk Utilities, select your boot drive, and verify/repair permissions — just to be on the safe side for the newly added iWork '09 applicaitons.

the system default in set to Drill,
any way to realize it by global?
another is they want to set default font size to 12px in dashboard,
    like dimenstion values,

    Open Mail application
On the top menu choose Mail and then preferences
    Choose *Fonts and Colors*
Opposite *Message Font* click on the Select button
A fonts menu will pop up and from there (at the top) choose the Text Color you want.
Close the open menus and you will then have the default font color for your message font.

  • "enlarge default font size"

Between early cataracts and not being able to get computer glasses made right.  I am tryingn to figure out how to enlarge the default font size for text in all (most?) of Safari.  When I click on the "make the font larger" feaure [A/A], it makes headlines scream and doesn't do all that much for reading.
If I am finding the correct place at which one would normall deal with it, the alternatives that seem to work best  for me have disappeared.  I believe I had set it manually set to 15, but once I tried to change it, it would only go back to up to 14 and then 18, which is too big.   It would be great if someone could help me with this.  Thanks.
I'm using Mountain Lion 10.8.4 and am almost sorry I upgraded.

Ronald P. Regensburg wrote at MacInTouch:
These Terminal commands allow you to change the fonts and sizes in Safari 6 in Mountain Lion. You might have to empty caches (enable Develop menu in Safari 6) to see the result and remove the css setting (to "nothing selected"). Font names with spaces need to be between quotation marks. Change yours accordingly.
    Full example for proportional font:
defaults write com.apple.Safari com.apple.Safari.ContentPageGroupIdentifier.WebKit2StandardFontFamily 'Lucida Grande'
    defaults write com.apple.Safari com.apple.Safari.ContentPageGroupIdentifier.WebKit2DefaultFontSize 14
Full example for fixed width font:
    defaults write com.apple.Safari com.apple.Safari.ContentPageGroupIdentifier.WebKit2FixedFontFamily Monaco
    defaults write com.apple.Safari com.apple.Safari.ContentPageGroupIdentifier.WebKit2DefaultFixedFontSize 11
    For my settings
    defaults write com.apple.Safari com.apple.Safari.ContentPageGroupIdentifier.WebKit2StandardFontFamily Times
    defaults write com.apple.Safari com.apple.Safari.ContentPageGroupIdentifier.WebKit2DefaultFontSize 14
    defaults write com.apple.Safari com.apple.Safari.ContentPageGroupIdentifier.WebKit2FixedFontFamily Courier
    defaults write com.apple.Safari com.apple.Safari.ContentPageGroupIdentifier.WebKit2DefaultFixedFontSize 14

You haven't mentioned which mail it is,
If it is G-mail go to settings --> general tab--> default text style , you can change your font size & then save at the bottom of the page

  • How to change the default window size display font size on Lync 2013 main window?

    Hi champs,
Just a simple non-technical question: How to change the default window size display font size on Lync 2013 main window on Windows 7 desktop?
    Thanks,

    Hi,
Did you mean change the Lync: Change the Default Font and Color of Instant Messages just as Edwin said above?
If not, as I know, there is no natural way to change it.
If yes, on the latest version of Lync 2013 client, there is a new option “IM” on Lync client “Options” list. And you need to change the default Font and Color of IM in the interface of “IM”.
