How do i set firmware password?

im on a macbook pro with osx 10.4.11 and want to no how to set a firmware password. is that the same password for wen i install a new application and it asks for a password? or wen im in system preferences and want to unlock to make changes? thanks.

No, Firmware Password Protection is different than your login/admin password. The login password is the one you need to install an app or unlock a preference pane - you set that in System Preferences > Accounts.
Firmware Password Protection prevents booting from the optical drive, prevents safe mode, etc. - you should have a good reason for wanting to turn this on, and be aware that you may cause yourself some grief if you ever need to troubleshoot your MBP. Details on Firmware Password Protection are here:

  • How to reset a firmware password?

do you know how to reset the firmware password on a workstation ultra 30?
each command on the ok prompt ask me for a firmware password. i tried (of course unsuccessfully) several.

    @rukbat,
You are partially correct. It depends if the security-mode is set to "command" or "full" (and if auto-boot?=true). If it is set to command, he can put in the other systems disk (in the same slot) and enter "b" to boot, then enter the eeprom command as root after he logs in. However, he cannot boot to cdrom because the boot-device is directed to the hard drive and cannot be changed without the eeprom password. I have used this technique to set security-mode=none on several E250s in years past.
If it is set to "full", his only option is to enter the password and log in to get an OK prompt, which leaves him where he currently is.
You dont have to get your prom from SUN. The SUN part number for an Ultra30 prom is: 525-1669, which you get several hits on if you search. IIRC, anysystems.com doesn't list the part but they can probably help you out.

  • How can I set a password containing punctuation?

    I tried this:
    alter user <user> identified by <password>;
where <password> has punctuation. I got:
    ORA-00922: missing or invalid option
so I quoted the password and got:
    ORA-00988: missing or invalid password(s)
How do I set a password that contains punctuation? TIA.

Thank you very much. That worked fine. I think earlier I tried using single quotes instead of double quotes, and single quotes did not work.

  • How can I set a password for firefox so that everyone have to enter the password before executing firefox

My younger sister executed my firefox just at this afternoon(she originally use IE), and she saw something that can't be seen. How can I set a password for firefox so that everyone have to enter the password before executing firefox?

Also see this for an English version of Profile Password:
    *Profile Password: http://nic-nac-project.de/~kaosmos/profilepassword-en.html#PPF
It is an extension to protect the profile with a password, but being an extension that protection can easily be bypassed by starting Firefox in [[Safe mode]].<br />
So do not rely on it.<br />
If you want to protect content then you have to use methods supported by the OS like a separate user account with a password or an encrypted file system.

  • How can I set a password for my pictures on iPad Air ?

How can I set a password for my pictures on iPad Air ? if anyone have my iPad access mail or something I don't want anyone access my photos so how can I set it up.

You can't set a password for the Photos nor Mail apps, you can only set a passcode for your iPad as a whole (via Settings > Passcode).
There are third-party photo management apps such as Photo Manager Pro which you can copy your photos into from the Photos app (and then delete them from Photos), that app allows you (via its settings within the app) to set a password to access it.
For email you could access your email via a browser (and not have your password stored in the browser), or see if there are any email apps in your country's app store which have a password option

  • How can I set a password on my Mac Mini so someone else cannot open it and read emails, etc.?

How can I set a password on my Mac Mini?  Someone else is reading my emails.  I would like to be able to lock it so nothing on it could be seen without a password.  Is that possible?  How?

So uncheck the automatic login after making sure you know your password and it will require a password on startup.
You can also go into the security preferences and have the machine lock itself once the screensaver is activated. This is sometimes controlled from the screensaver preferences as well.
You could also go nuts and activate multiple users where your name appears in the menu bar. When you walk away from the machine you can use that menu to take you to the "login window", effectively locking your machine.

AirPort Utility will prompt you for that once it finds the Extreme.

Sign in, and, if you like, change your password there by clicking your Apple ID again after signin.

how do I set a password for adobe reader

You can set a password for your device (iPad or iPhone) in Settings. You cannot set a password on the Adobe Reader app itself.
If you want to password protect a PDF document you cannot do it in Reader. It must be done in Acrobat on Macintosh or Windows.

pls let me khnw how i can set a password so i can stop my i phn 4 sharing with any pc or i tunes, thanks

I haven't used the SiliconDust product, but I have been using a similar product by Ceton, for nearly five years.
By inserting a CableCARD into the tuner, you would have access to the same channels as a set-top box. You rent a cableCARD from Verizon, just like you'd rent a set-top box from them. I have an m-card, which just allows multiple channels to be tuned at once, unlike the older s-card.
You do, however, lose Pay Per View and on-demand programming. For me, it's not a great loss.
The program guide is handled through Windows Media Center, which holds programming data for the next 14 days. You schedule your recordings there. It's also smart enough to reschedule shows, if there's a recording conflict (too many scheduled shows, not enough tuners)
Although you can contunue to use an IR blaster (I use one), you can also get a Media Center companion app from Ceton. It doesn't require a Ceton tuner...it will still control Media Center. The app costs a few bucks, but it's worth it. They make it for Android and Apple, and maybe Windows Phone. It will let you manage your schedules, and use your phone/tablet as a remote control over WiFi.
Buy a big hard drive to hold your scheduled recordings. Expect to use an average of 10-15 gigabytes per hour of HD recording. The beauty of this system, is that you can just add another hard drive whenever you need more space, sonething the STB's won't let you do.
For service in other rooms, use an Xbox360 if you have one. Or, buy a Ceton Echo extender (again, doesn't require a Ceton tuner). Don't use Wi-Fi for your extenders. Wired Ethernet is a must...most wireless won't be able to keep up.
    Hope this helps.

  • HT2688 How do I set the password for my iTunes Library Home Sharing?

I have a new Macbook and I'd like to access my library from my old one via Home Sharing. The library appears in my iTunes, but when I go to enter my Apple ID password, it says that the password is incorrect. Home Sharing is enabled on the old computer. What else could the password be/how do I set the password on my old computer?

What password did you define on the computer where the library actually exists?  It could be your Apple ID password but that wouldn't be very smart.
Just turn off the password for homesharing unless you actually need it.
Edit > Preferences > Sharing > either uncheck the option to require a password or simply change it.
