How do I set Link Speed and Duplex Mode of NIC Card

Hi All.
     I

I'm working on the tester to verify the various speed at UUT by sending command on those speed and check response.
I used to try Devcon but only disable and enable NIC Card that I know for now. If someone experience on this thing, that would be great.

  • Setting 1242 speed and duplex

I have 8 1242 WAP's being controlled y a 4402 wireless lan controller. I was looking at the switch ports on my core switches and noticed that they are setting at 100 meg. I always set my switch ports manually to gig full especially when connecting to other gear like this. My question is how do I force the WAP's into gig full. I can find no where to set this manually. Auto seems to only go 100 half.

    The APs are 100meg Ethernet.
Aside form that, when a connection falls back to a slower speed, or fails to function when forced to the higher rate (assuming both ends support the higher rate), then the problem is the cabling.
If the cabling is not terminated properly, (not using the correct pair order for example), or is is bent, kinked, twisted, or otherwise damaged, then the switch will downshift the speed to minimize errors.
In the case of a 100/Full port that only works at 10meg (or half duplex only), then it's usually a pair order issue, usually a split pair on pins 3&6.
    10/100 Ethernet uses pair 3 (pins 1&2) and pair 2 (pins 3&6).
The most frequent cause for that is terminating the ends as pair> instead of the EIA/TIA spec (568a = green-whitet, green, orange-white, BLUE, Blu/Wht, orange, brown-white, brown ... 568b swap the orange and green pair).
If you map it out on paper, you'll see that pair> give you pin 3 as one color and pin 6 as another color ... meaning you no longer would be using "twisted pair" ... and the crosstalk spec (critical for high-speed signaling) goes right out the window.
Half duplex works with pair> because only one side is talking at a time, the crosstalk has no other signal to conflit with.
Check your in-wall cabling, use commercially created jumpers.

  • Configuring speed and duplex settings of monitoring NIC under IDS v4.1

    Good day,
While I know that, unlike IPS v5.0 where you can configure interface-specific settings via IDM, you cannot adjust interface settings using IDM in v4.1.
I was wondering if it was possible to set these things, however, via the service account?
Can someone share their suggestions, supported or not, on how to do this? Is it just a simple Google for "NIC settings Red Hat Linux 9" or is it more involved?
Thanks in advance to any who reply,
    Alex Arndt

What about a situation where you will be connecting the monitoring port of a v4.1 sensor to a passive TAP that is inline on a link with hard-coded interfaces?
It is my understanding that any device connected to a passive TAP, that is one that has two network ports and two monitoring ports (one for each TX pair), must be configured the same. So, if the two devices at either end of the tapped line are forced to specific speed and duplex settings, so should the NIC cards on the device(s) connected to the monitoring ports of the TAP.
Given this, can you provide the best practice for a v4.1 sensor? Could you also provide specifics on how to force-set the speed and duplex on the monitoring NIC, not the command and control interface, in such a way that it will survive a reboot?
    Thanks in advance,
    Alex Arndt

  • Cisco 837 speed and duplex problem

I have one Cisco 837 connected to Cisco 1900 and Cisco 2924XL. When i set the speed and duplex to 10 full duplex or 100 full duplex i 837 the fastethernet interface is going down. Its working if i set speed and duplex to auto i 837 router. I have 12.4(4)T release on my Cisco 837.

    Hi
AFAIK 1900 doesnt support auto negotiation so better manually hardcode the speed and duplex to 10/half or 10/full on the port which is connecting to 1900 and
100/full to the port which is connecting to 2924 coz it does support 100/full.

  • ILOM network speed and duplex

Is there a way to set the speed and duplex config on an X4100 ILOM network management port? We are doing some tests and installing an OS across the network using the remote control capabilities and mounting an ISO to boot from. I have noticed that it is only capable of about 2-3mbps throughput max. Since it is a 10/100 NIC, I had hoped for better speeds. We will eventually be looking at integrating N1 Provisioning, but want to do a few initial test systems this way.
I am connected to a port on a Cisco 3548 switch and it is set to 100 Full Duplex. I usually set the NIC on a server to match the speed/duplex on the switch port to reduce any issues with mismatched settings.

Have you tried to let the ILOM and the Cisco switch auto-negotiate? I've seen issues with forcing one side and not the other.
I can't find a way to force the speed/duplex via the IPMI Configuration in BIOS on a x4100 M2 that's in front of me. Not sure about CLI on ILOM...

  • Problems setting speed and duplex

We have installed a 4510R router as well as a 3560 10/100 switch. When the speed and duplex are hard coded to 100 full on both switches the connection breaks. When set to auto on both ends, link stays up. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

This could be a symptom of a bad or poorly terminated cable.
If you hard-code the speed to 10 and or the duplex to half, does it stay up?
If this is a handmade cable, try replacing it with a known-good commercial cable. If all you have available is hand-made cables, then verify that the pairs are p0inned-out according to the EIA/TIA standard (left-to-right, clip down:
    Orange-white,
    Orange,
    Green-white,
    BLUE,
    White-blue,
    Green,
    White-brown,
    Brown
    *OR*
    White-green,
    Green,
    White-orange,
    BLUE,
    White-blue,
    Orange,
    White-brown,
    Brown
If your cables are not pinned-out according to the spec, the ACR (attenuation-to-crosstalk ratio) is blown and the cable cannot carry full-duplex high-speed traffic (or it might work, but not without a lot of errors .... which is why the interface will downshift to a slower speed or half duplex).
    Good Luck

    A router-switch connection should be a straight-through cable.

  • Changing the speed and duplex setting on the WRT54GS

Can I manually change the speed and duplex setting on the internet port to 10Mb full on a Linksys WRT54GS router?

You can change the speed on the computer connected to the router's ethernet port...not on the router.

I believe that these statements are true.
Auto negotiation is good when both sides are configured to negotiate. When one side does not negotiate the other side should not try to negotiate.

  • LWAPP ap speed and duplex

Is it possible to set the ap speed and duplex once it has joined a controller as there is nowhere on the wlc to do this.
Is there a command available after I give the ap a username and passsword with
    config ap username <username> password <password> <ALL | AP Name>

    Hi Pete,
Here you go my friend :)
    Q. How do I set the duplex settings on the Wireless LAN Controller (WLC) and the Lightweight Access Points (LAPs)?
    A. Cisco Wireless products work best when both speed and duplex are autonegotiated, but you do have the option to set the duplex settings on the WLC and LAPs. In order to set the AP speed/duplex settings, you can configure the duplex settings for the LAPs on the controller and then, in turn, push them to the LAPs.
configure ap ethernet duplex speed is the command to set the duplex settings through the CLI .This command is supported with versions 4.1 and later only.
In order to set the duplex settings for the WLC physical interfaces, use the config port physicalmode {all | port} {100h | 100f | 10h | 10f} command.
This command sets the specified or all front-panel 10/100BASE-T Ethernet ports for dedicated 10 Mbps or 100 Mbps, half-duplex or full-duplex operation. Note that you must disable autonegotiation with the config port autoneg disable command before you manually configure any physical mode on the port. Also, note that the config port autoneg command overrides settings made with the config port physicalmode command. By default, all ports are set to auto negotiate.

  • 79X1 Port Speed and Duplex

I've been trying to figure out how to get the Network and PCPort Speed And Duplex "actuals" from 7941 and 61s. On the 7940s and 60s this was available via the PortInformationX? URL but other than sending keys to the phone and getting a screenshot (modeinfo) I haven't been able to find the right URL/URI for the 79X1 family.
Any help will be greatly appreciated!
    Thanks

    Hello,
as I understand it, NLP is just a basic Ethernet connectivity check used for 10BaseT (non-autonegotiate) devices, while FLP is an enhanced version of NLP, used in autonegotiation. Whenever autonegotiation is involved, FLP's are being sent. When a FLP capable device detects NLP's from a 10BaseT device, it stops sending FLP's and reverts to NLP's.

  • How can i re-link .mpkg and .pkg files to hidden Installer?

I am near the end of the process of setting up my new Mac Pro (early 2009) eight core. Quite the wonderful difference from my "Mirror Drive Door" dual 1.25 GHz machine!
The Mac Pro came with Mac OS X 10.6.2 installed. I updated this to 10.6.6 via Software Update along with a slew of other updates presented there. I downloaded and installed a bunch of software. Finally, I was ready to install iLife 11 from the "CPU Drop-in" DVD that was on top of the box when the computer was originally unpacked.
Unfortunately, it wouldn't even begin the install. The "iLife.mpkg" file, when double-clicked, returned the error message "no application associated with this document". Hours of investigation reveals that NO .mpkg or .pkg file will open; doing a "get info" on the files reveals that those files have lost their link to the Installer app.
AND since the only installer I can find is hidden in /usr/sbin, there is no way I can re-link .mpkg and .pkg files to it via "get info".
I downloaded Pacifist and used it to open the "Mac OS X 10.6.6 Combo" package and re-installed the Combo updater. Much to my surprise, that didn't fix the linking issue.
I've logged in as root, but still can't re-link the package files to the Installer as /usr/ is still hidden. Is there a way I can temporarily "un-hide" the /usr directory so that "get info; open with" can see it?
I've started from the Mac OS X installer DVD and repaired permissions on the hard disk and "repaired" the hard disk. No luck there either.
I did a clean install of Mac OS X 10.6.2 to a different hard drive and applied the combo updater and the packages worked as expected there. So some software I installed or by running a slew of updaters via Software Update broke the link between packages and the Installer.
I'm sure that re-linking to packages to the hidden installer app can be done via Terminal and possible other ways, but I don't know how to do it.
Short of doing a complete Mac OS X 10.6 re-installation and update and having to re-do several days of other software installations and data transfers, I'm hoping someone will offer some solutions or tips on how to solve my problem.
How do I re-link .mpkg and .pkg files to the Installer?

Thanks for the reply. I know I had previously checked for the missing installer in /System/Library/CoreServices/ and I rechecked and it's still not there. But your tip spurred me to check the test 10.6.6 installation on the other hard disk and yes! It's there!
A quick copy from the second hard disk to my current hard disk and doing the "get info" trick and everything now works wonderfully. Only one day lost to trying to figure this out. Now that the problem is fixed, quite the relief.

How Can I set my speed of clip to 0%?
    I can't do that. A minimum value is: 1.00

So I HAVE TO do this in that specific way? I can't normally set a "0%" value of speed curve?

But how I have to do a frame hold if I can't set speed of one frame to 0%

Use a time remapping freeze frame instead if you want 0 speed.
What a rubbish did you say? I am in Time remapping freeze menu and IN THIS MENU we can't set a value to 0%. A value: 1.00% is a minimum.
You have to miss a screen what I paste before, so specially for you (there is even a red box):

In order to configure the port speed and duplexing (change to 100Mbps/Full-duplex from auto mode) on a Nexus 2248TP interface, does the port needs to be down,.i.e, no link?
Thanks in advanced for your support!

    Hello and thanks for reply;
I was trying to configure port speed and duplexing on a 2148. This FEX model only works at 1000Mbps as I later found out on the documentation.
    Thanks again for your support.
