How do I set macbook pro to share with windows

How do I sahre files between macbook pro and windows?

In System Preferences > Sharing, turn on File Sharing.  Then click the Options button and select "Share files and folders using SMB (Windows)"  Then click Done.   Note: this is the procedure in Snow Leopard; it may be slightly different in Mt. Lion.  Just check in System Prefs > Sharing and you should find what you need.

  • How can I set macbook pro to reconnect to secure home wifi after lifting the lid (from sleep mode)

I have owned my MacBook Pro for 1 year now and not sure for how much longer! It is my first Mac so I have been patient as most issues are 'operator eror) but since I upgraded to Mountain Lion OS X 10.8.2, every time I close the lid then reopen from sleep, the WiFi does not auto reconnect.
I have trawled these forums for 6 month now and not found a solution. I have lost count of how many people have added to threrads saying they have the same issue bt I have not found a thread that resolves this issue for everyone. (or me)
Can someone point me in the direction of a final tried and tested 100% fix? Surely if the issue is so bad Apple have some 'patch'? Or is it a router security issue when reconnecting?
I would not reccommend buying Apple to anyone purely on this one issue. I would like to have my faith restored.

    JohnTh,
Well, so far, success! I would never have got to that point on my own! I simply followed your procedure and it worked first time.
For info, the router I am using is a Netgear DGND33000v2.
I might go back and do it again, renaming my WiFi back to the original name (the one I used was temporary).
I will have to go round all my other devices and re-establish the WiFi links.
    Apple TV
    DVD player
    iPad
    iPhone etc.
As Paul4Laffs reiterates, this problem is viral on the www forums and yet, (touchwood) is simple to fix!?
I hope I don't come back after a few days (I have read some 'fix's have worked but for limited time.)
Maybe you have jut saved this MB from eBay!
    Once again thank-you.

  • Macbook Pro Audio - Share with Another Computer

I just bought a new set of speakers for use with my Macbook Pro. I would like to be able to keep it plugged in to my docking station but also have them available when I am using my WIndows PC. Can anyone recommend a way to do this? Do I need a KVM switch? I suppose I would prefer a device that switches the audio only, as there is no need for any of the other KVM functionality that would allow me to use the same keyboard or monitor for both computers. What is the safest way to do this? I don't want to break my speakers. Thanks.
    sundevil671

Yes, very easy, it can only share a library when it is ON the same network, hence when the machine is off it does not show up.
It is still runnning home sharing but cannot connect via wifi for it to be shared so does not show it.

  • How to connect a MacBook Pro to internet with no cable, no Wifi, no ADSL?

I'll need to connect my MacBook Pro to internet in an environment without any of the above mentioned means.
    1. What are the possibilities? GSM (mobile phone), a modem (express card?)?
    2. Where can I find the information on how to proceed?
    Thanks!

    Hello,
You can use a mobile phone as a modem. This can be done manually by yourself or automatic by a commercial third party software:
Manual: you need the right scripts and connection settings and enter them manually in your network configurations. You find the right scripts and configuration hints here: http://www.taniwha.org.uk
Automatic: try the demo of launch2net at http://www.launch2net.com which features a powerful configuration assistant which already includes all necessary network settings and scripts.
The other option would be to use the XU 870 ExpressCard modem from Novatel at http://www.novatelwireless.com. If you are living in the USA and use Cingular, Apple has released a so called WWAN update with all settings. So you can use this ExpressCard in Cingular networks immediatly.
    Thank you

  • How easily can the MacBook Pro be scratched with another aluminium product?

I have a MacBook Pro 15' and an iPad 2 with a Smart Cover.  Every now and then, if I carry both in my hands, I stack the iPad on top of the MacBook Pro.  I will hear a sound of metal VS metal and I have figured what it was.  The hinge of the Smart Cover was rubbing against my MBP.  I was wondering, can the 2 scratch each other?  I have noticed wear on the metal Smart Cover hinges, and was wondering if the same thing could happen to my MBP.
    Thanks for helping!

Aluminum, while flexible and lightweight, is a very soft metal. Apple was very careful with engineering the MBP to round the edges and make the shell as damage proof as possible. Still, with a little bit of hand pressure, you can cut into aluminum with an everyday table knife. That should tell you something.

  • Macbook Pro 2011 problem with windows via bootcamp

I have macbook pro early 2011  and my disk drive not working.
I tried to install windows via bootcamp by an external disk drive but it failed to boot from the windows install disk.
    how can i install it?

The Snow Leopard Windows drivers are on your Snow Leopard install disk. There is no download for Windows drivers and Snow Leopard.
You should include your computer model and year in your posts. Answers may vary depending on your hardware.
XP is not supported on newer Apple computers. You should install Windows 7.

  • I don't have any sound and can't adjust the brightness Macbook Pro Mid 2009 with Windows 7 64bit

I installed Windows 7 Professional 64 bit in my Macbook Pro Mid 2009 using Bootcamp 5.1.2 and from the beginning the sound is not working and cant adjust the brightness either. Tried installing all the drivers that people recommended from Realtek, nVidia and nothing has help me fixed the problem. is there a way that i could fix those problems?

Look in the Boot Camp system requirements located here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5634
Find your computer model and year. I think you will find that you should be using version 4 of the Windows support software.

  • How do i set up my time capsule with windows

How do I set up my airport time capsule using Windows 7 home premium?

If you have the newest AC model TC.. you might be in trouble. Apple specifically state you need v6 airport utility. They do not provide v6 with windows.. only Mac and iOS. If you happen to have iphone, ipad even itouch, you can download and install the airport utility and use that.. you just cannot do the setup from windows.

  • How to enable my macbook pro to login with cac card access instead of traditional username and password?

Someone please help me figure this out.

Assuming that you are using a recent build of OS X, go to /Applications/Utilities and launch the app called Keychain Access. Go to the Window pulldown menu and select "Keychain First Aid". Enter your password, set the radio button to "Repair", and click "Start".

  • How do i set up a dual boot with windows

I am trying to set up a dual boot system with both the snow leapard and win 7,  I have partioned the drive and have windows booting up.  How do I get the drivers for the machine that windows will recognize.  I am researching this for my dad his I mac is one of the new 21 inch models.

If you want dual boot you would use Boot Camp which is built into Snow Leopard. You will need a license of WIndows 7. You can install it by using Boot Camp Assistant however prior to doing so you probably should look at how it's correctly done, here is a You Tube Boot Camp instructions video I would recommend you watch first.
If your dad wants to run Windows 7 & OS X simultaneously then he will need either Parallels or VMWare Fusion. Both are virtualization applications that allow one to run Windows and OS X side by side. This is a great solution unless he is a gamer or needs to run graphics intensive applications like CAD/CAM or 3D Games or anything that is 3D intensive. For all other types of applications virtualization is an excellent solution.
If you choose the Boot Camp solution there is a forum specifically for that which is where I'd recommend posting questions.

  • Macbook Pro (retina) issues with Windows 8

on MacbookPro (retina), running Windows 8 over Boot Camp, attempt to run Boot Camp Control Panel results in error message related with lack of administrative privileges to access the startup disk settings. Also, FaceTime HD camera is not available and some trackpad gestures (two finger press and two finger swipe) occasionally fail.

I installed Windows 8 Pro on my MBP Retina yesterday with only minor problems.
    - Bootcamp incorrectly formatted the partition, which was easy to fix in the install process.
    - Wifi was extremelly slow to connect, so much so that I resulted to seaching google to see if something major was wrong with my installation
    - Scrolling was overly sensitive to the point where using the arrows was much for satisyfing
Other than that, the USB stick of course came bundled with the support which sets itself up (at least it did for me). Keyboard functions (media controls, volume, brightness, etc) and all the extra dongles (wifi [eventually], bluetooth, etc) work. I also hope to see drivers for swiping and improved scrolling in the future...would be really helpful considering the laptop cost in excess of 2.5 grand.
I don't have any answer for when support will be coming, but I'm sure you can count on this forum post for when it will be...your question was result #1 for me on Google search.

  • 2009 Macbook Pro fan noise with Windows 7

    Hello Apple community,
I'm not sure if I should post this in the bootcamp section or not.
I've recently installed Windows 7 on my mid 2009 MBP. I used OS X Lion to create the bootcamp partiton. Everything installed ok but now my MBP's fan is getting noticably loud whenever I use Windows. I've used OS X Lion, and then Mavericks before installing Windows 7 and the only time I heard the fan that loud was when I was playing a video game or doing something hardware intensive. Once I quite the game the fan would stop being so loud. The fan is not consistantly loud, it subsides for a breif period of time only to go full speed again shortly. But it is loud enough most of the time for it to cause me some concern.
Does anyone have any idea about this issue? Is this a consistant problem with MBP using Windows 7? Should I do an update to OS X Lion? Any adive would be greatly appreicated.
    Rados

    Thanks for replying turostar.
I did as you suggested. I have noticed an improvement in terms of the noise. It isn't as loud for as long a time but every now and then the fan will kick start to make noise again. Is this to be expected?

  • How can i set up my airport extream with window pc (win8)?

indeed the airport agent (airport utility) in my pc cannot detect my airport

Apple makes considerable effort to make networking simple and secure. Other companies don't.
I don't know where you are at in the troubleshooting process, but here are most of the steps.
You first need to run the AirPort Utility before you can start. You may be able to use VM Ware or Virtual Box to run a compatible operating system if Windows 8 won't work.
    http://www.vmware.com/
    https://www.virtualbox.org/
    http://www.apple.com/support/airport/
    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1547
Once you get AirPort Utility running, you can configure the AirPort hardware. It is best to connect the laptop directly to the AirPort hardware using an Ethernet cable.
You should change passwords and SSID once you get the AirPort Utility software running on the laptop connected with the AirPort hardware.
Your laptop will not 'see' the AirPort hardware without the Ethernet cable if you use the wrong frequency. The most likely reason is that the laptop has older WiFi hardware (or no WiFi hardware).
WiFi uses two frequencies: 2.4GHz and 5GHz. You need to find out which one your laptop requires. Select 802.11b or 802.11g for 2.4GHz. Select 802.11ac for 5GHz.
Your laptop will show the AirPort SSID after you select the right frequency on the AirPort hardware (if your laptop has WiFi capability and if your WiFi hardware is turned on).
Use the "Show Password" menu option in the AirPort utility to show the WEP passwords for the AirPort hardware. You will need these to join the laptop to WiFi network.
    Best of luck.

How to reset my macbook pro to factory setting?

Click here and follow the instructions. If the computer originally shipped with Mac OS X 10.6.8 or earlier, when you reach step 5, insert its original disk, restart with the C key held down, use the Disk Utility to erase the internal drive, and install a fresh OS.
