How do I set my project to advance to next slide on mouse click vs just play?

Captivate 6 on mac running OS 10.7.5 file format in question .htm (firefox)
I'm brand new to Captivate 6 (never used it before) I have put together a mock presentation from scratch which has a few introductory slides then a quiz. When I publish it there is a "play" button which is NOT the behavior I want.
I watched a training video from Lynda.com and the insstructor imported a PPT file, there was a dialog box which asked the how to advance slide, there was a drop down menu and one of two options was advance "on mouse click". This is the behavior I'm looking for.
I've scoured the internet and forums etc to find a comparable option elsewhere in Captivate 6 when creating from scratch vs importing from PPT and cannot find one anywhere. I've also read that you can insert a click box object and that that would do what I'm looking for but that doesn't work either.
Does any such option exist and if so where/ how do I get to it/ use it. Please see attachments below. First screen shot is the first slide I get which isn't the first slide either, what's up with that? Next one is simply to show how the project just "plays" instead of advancing slide by slide. Third is my publish dialog box. Bottom line I don't want a "play" button I want the user to mouse click next, next, next etc. How do I do this?
Thank you for any help or suggestions!

Maybe I understand something wrongly, but thought you also wanted to know how you can make slides advance on clicking the Next button instead of having it playing on automatically? And instead of using the playbar you want to have a Previous and Next button?
The way imported PPT with advance on Mouse click works is because there is a click box added to each slide that pauses that slide at its end. The user has to click on the slide to advance.
A click box is an 'interactive' object: this means that you can have it pausing the slide, that the user can interact with it and trigger an action like 'Go to Next Slide'.
You added (from what I see on the last screenshot) another interactive object, but now I'm confused: the third screenshot has a Prev and Next arrow, I think those are shapes. You do not need to add a click box on top of them (what I see on the last screenshot), they can be converted themselves into buttons. I blogged a lot about those shape buttons. Anyway, both click box and shape button can pause the slide. This is the case by default for click boxes (at the end of their duration, their timeline), for shape buttons you have to tell them to pause in the Timing accordion. In your case I certainly would choose a shape button because they can be put on a master slide, or timed for the rest of the project whereas Click boxes need to be unique on each slide, you'l have a lot of copy/paste to do then. In the Action accordion, On Success you choose the action, I think in this case you want 'Go to Next Slide' for the Next 'thing'
As for the first screenshot, Rod explained that you cannot get rid of the play button for pdf output, but you can have a poster image instead of the blank screen. There is a folder icon in Preferences, Project, Start and End when you deselect AuotPlay.
Here is a link to an article where I explain shape buttons:

There is an on-demand webinar as well on the Adobe site which I presented, only about shape buttons.

  • How do I set pages up so that I can type a script for a radio play

here we go, that is if I'm not driven mad by the process of trying to work out how to use this help thing.
how do I set pages up so that I can type a script for a radio play ie the character then as an indented bit what they say

Here's a sample, using what should be a familiar script to any radio drama buff, and showing a few of the features you'll want to incorporate into your template.
    Features noted by arrows:
This is the "First line indent" margin stop, in this case, set to produce a 'hanging indent'. This stop sets the starting position of the first line of a Paragraph.
Left margin stop: This stop sets the starting position of all lines in a paragraph except the first.
When setting margins, set this one first, as it will drag the First line indent stop with it when moved. After setting this one (by dragging it to the position on the ruler where you want it to be), drag the rectangle (First line stop) left as far as it will go.
    Right margin stop.
Running Header: This is a combination of text that appears on every page, plus the page number / page count—very useful information when someone drops his script. (Typed here, but a combination of typing and inserting the two number calculators from the Insert menu in the actual template.)
Tab character. Used to move the first line of the dialogue into alignment with the rest of that paragraph. The Left margin stop also acts as a Tab stop.
Paragraph break (made by pressing the return key). After a Paragraph break, the next line of the script will start at the left margin of the page. To break a long monologue into smaller blocks, use a 'soft return', made by pressing Shift-return, as I've done twice here...
...to produce an empty line without creating a 'new paragraph' (or in this case, a new item on the current list.
Those are the basics for producing the body of your script.

  • Diable "open dialog box" on right mouse click so I can use l mouse to advance to next slide and r mouse click to "go back."  How in PP 2010 for mac????

I do presentations in PP10.  I am new to macair, and used to Windows.  HOW DO I DISABLE THE "OPEN DIALOG BOX ON RIGHT CLICK"?  I would like to use L mouse to advance slide, and R mouse to go back.  The default is to use R mouse to open dialog box.  I can disable this by unchecking the box in "advanced" on the PC.  How do I do it with the Mac????

    Hi Rod,
As originally stated in my opening post, the SWF is to be inserted into an Articulate '13 slide (what I called an aggregator originally - I tried not to bring them up since I don't want the chatter about "There's your problem - using Articulate"! ).
Recall that posting this published file to our LMS did not allow right-mouse click functionality as the flash player menu just gets in the way.
If I insert the captivate 6 files into Articulate as a Web Object (referencing the entire folder with html, htm and assets, and then posted to our LMS, and it DOES allow RM click operations in both IE and FF (although no sound on the Captivate slide in FF). But this is not what we want to do as this introduces 2 navigation controls (the Captivate one and the Articulate Player).
Why must anything be posted to a web server for this functionality to work?
I am able to go into the Captivate 6's published folder, and launch the Captivate demonstration by simply double clicking on the index.html file and this works great in both FF and IE after changing the security settings for flash.
Again - I can not believe I am the only one out there trying to use the right-mouse click feature to do a software simulation by embedding the Captivate SWF into an Articulate '13 project.

  • Setting a condition for continuing to next slide

    Hi,
I'm using Captivate 4. I have four rollover slidelets on a slide - each simultaneoulsy active for displaying in any order.
How do I create a condition where a 'Next slide' button would be made visible and activated on the slide only if all four rollover slidelets have been visited by the user? Is this possible in Captivate?

    Hi there
I'm thinking you may be able to accomplish this by declaring one or more variables, then assign the on-click event for each of the slidelets so the event triggers an Advanced Action. The Advanced Action would consist of checking to see if the variable(s) have been set accordingly. Assuming the right condition exists (meaning all four slidelets have been clicked) an action would occur to reveal the button that allows the user to proceed.

  • Text Entry with Tab Key not advancing to next slide

I am using Captivate 1 to create a screen that has a text
entry requiring the user to press the Tab key as the Shortcut Key.
The users are having to press the Tab key multiple times to get the
course to advance to the next slide. There does not seem to be a
rhyme or reason to which text entries this occurs in, nor does
there seem to be a pattern to the number of times or forcefulness
in which the Tab key must be pressed, though more aggressive key
presses have yielded better results. Sadly, requesting the users
bang the Tab key with as much force as they can muster is not a
    viable option.
Here are things I have tried:
    Decrease length of slide
Increasing active time of the text entry
    Adding/removing playback control
    Deleting and recreating text entries
If anyone has any idea what can be done to correct this
problem, it would be much appreciated.

    Hi berrylicious877
The following has worked for me in Cap1, so try it and see:
Add the text entry box and include the submit button.
Make the submit button transparent and edit text to a full
stop at the smallest available font size (Captivate won't accept a
submit button without something typed in and a full stop is the
    smallest thing available display wise)
On the submit button, set the shortcut key to "Tab".
My reasoning was that the shortcut key on the text entry box
"activates" the box, thus allowing input and the shortcut key on
the "submit" button "deactivates" the box so that the slide can
    move on as required.
Please let us know if this helps.

  • Captivate 4: text button stopping project, not going to next slide.

When testing a published captivate project...I click the text button that is set to go to the next slide prior to the slide being done (because learners will do this) and the project stops.
I'd prefer to use the buttons (as I believe they are intended).
    Thoughts?
    Thanks,
    James

    Hello James,
Can you go to the button properties and check under option-- check the Timing -- for Pause after, set it to 0.1 seconds .
Now republish and verify that if it jumpts to your defined slide or not?

Think this issue is resolved but to ensure the full answer is available, here it is.
First, it's a bad idea to use the Tempo channel at all. You can use a script to do anything that you can do there. I have Lingo alternates to the Tempo channel at:
    http://www.deansdirectortutorials.com/Lingo/tempoLingo.htm
(think I need to update this page though)
So - DO NOT USE the Tempo Channel setting - Wait for Mouse Click or Key Press.
The above setting creates a type of pause that interferes with other interactivity.
Instead - use a 'Hold on Frame' behavior (from the Library Palette - Navigation category) or it could be written as:
    on exitFrame
    go the frame
    end
Once you have the above behaviour in you desired frame, you can attach a sprite behaviour to your buttons / links. A good one to use is the ‘Jump to Marker Button’ behaviour in the Controls category of the Library Palette. You can attach this behavior to different sprites and just change the marker setting of the behavior, removing the need to have individual hard-coded scripts for each button.
Next – DO NOT link to frame numbers. Always link to a marker. You may insert or remove frames. This would cause your incorrect links since the frame number would no longer the right point.
Next – the following all do the same thing:
    go to frame “markername”
    go to “markername”
    go “markername”
So, you can leave out ‘frame’ or even ‘to’ as they are not needed. I still use ‘go to’ as it feels more natural to me (just history).
    or you could use:
    _movie.go("dean")
    Don’t use
    go to marker “markername”
I think that did work at some point but not anymore.
marker can be used as follows:
    go marker (-1)
Where -1 is the amount of markers back (could be forward as well).
Well, that gives the detailed answer to your question.

  • How do you set the PROJECT END limit?

    Hi there,
I know you can drag the right 'bracket' on the bar ruler or you can type in a value in the transport under the tempo. But on my system, I can only get it to bar 21601 and no further.
You may be thinking, what am I doing? Composing a 13 hour song?
I just have some files with time stamps on them and a few say they go beyond my project end. I'm hoping there's a setting where I can extend the limit.
    Thanks,

I'm afraid there is not such a setting but you can try next..
If you need to increase this length as a time length, just halve the tempo. You can achieve the same result by using 4/8 time instead of 4/4 time, and treating quarter notes as eighth notes.A 4/8 song at a tempo of 60bpm (equivalent to 4/4 at a tempo of 120)etc.

  • How can I set which projects use Proxy Media and not just change every project?

    Hi there
I can see how to change ALL projects to use Proxy Media or Original/Optimised Media

Perhaps if apple didn't take back prores LT this wouldn't be as much of an issue.
Pores LT was a great compromise between file size and quality. It produced a fine image for most peoples needs and was 30% smaller.
Hopefully it will be returned soon. I can't imagine why it's not already there. Unless they want to charge for it, ... again..
Have you tried capturing as full res, then change prefs back to proxy, open a new project and import the full res files?
In FCP7 the render pref was separate from the capture pref. is that gone too?
If my idea doesn't work, Surely someone will chime in with a creative work around to this.
And hopefully it'll get fixed soon in an update.
    Best,

  • How do I set the keyboard shortcut for zoom tool to be r-clicking the mouse?

I want to have the r-click of my mouse be the zoom tool like in Quark Xpress. Can I make the Z shortcut to choosing the Zoom tool instead a r-click? I know how to get into keyboard shortcuts - just dont know what to type in for the new shortcut to make it a r-click. right now its 2 steps to zoom rather than in quark 1. not that I want to go back. lol.
also, while were talking about migration differences and extra steps, is there a way I can hide guides and set overprint preview in one step? (this is something I do often and was just a simple F7 in quark)
so these are just 2 things that take 2 steps in ID but one in quark. not that I want to go back. lol

OK, I've been doing this since CS2 with no need for a script. To hide guides and show preview...
    1) Go to 'Keyboard Shortcuts'
    2) Go to 'Product Area - Tools'. Yes, you'd think it would be in Views! But the buttons for this is at the bottom of the Tool Bar.
    3) Go to 'Commands: Toggle view setting between default and preview'
    4) Click your cursor inside 'New Shortcut' and hit the key you want or type it in. I choose the unused F2 key
    5) Click the 'Assign' button and you are set. Hit the key to switch back and forth.
As for your mouse Zoom, use Power Zoom as described above or just hold down the Alt/Option button in 'Hand' mode and use the scroll wheel to zoom in and out. Not one step but it works!
Now you won't miss Quark at all!

  • How do I set up firefox to open an animated gif in outlook 2010 - it just "new tabs"s out

After changing the .mht and .mhtml associations to firefox (from IE), when I click on an animated gif in a mail message and select "open in browser", firefox opens, then just "tabs" away (like it's opening each frame separately). How can I get firefox to display the animation like IE used to?

    guigs2,
Thanks - using "unmht" did the trick. I searched addons for "mht" and came up blank. I knew there HAD to be something out there - thanks again for the pointer.

  • How do I set Mail to not mark as read every time I click on a message?

I have an IMAP account which we share in the company between several of us. Basically, if there's a case that's unread its fair game. Thing is that every single time I go over a message with mail it's marked as read and sometimes I forget to mark it as unread again. On Thunderbird and other programs I can have a time limit before it is set to read. Is there such a thing with Mail or with any of its plugins?
    Thanks.

Turn the Wireless receiver off on your laptop, then your laptop won't connect to your modem. Or, use the reset button on the back of the modem to reset your modem.

  • How can I set the default in "Write" to display several email address instead of just one?

Like to see more than one person on the Write screen at a time. The default seems to move the first one up.
I would rather like to have at least four be able to be seen without any scrolling of addresses. Am familiar with config editor if necessary.

On my system it was set to the default of 3 address fields. When I went into the config editor and modified the line quoted above to 5 and restarted Thunderbird, the next time I open a Write window I have 5 address fields.
Only after I fill those 5 fields does the first field scroll up and out of view.
Yes you can drag the bottom edge of the subject field down to show more fields but this is not permanent. The next time you open a write window it will show the number of fields set in the config editor.

  • How do you select an item from a table indicator with a mouse click and then use that selection in code?

    Hi,
I am displaying a list of filesfrom a directory  in a table on the front panel of a VI as part of a program I am developing. I would like the user to be able to select from that table so that particular file can be processed. Is there a way to do this?
    Thanks,

you'll find that most of the useful functionality of the labview user control interface is hidden within the property node and invoke node functions. just right click a control or indicator terminal on the block diagram and mouse over to create, then to property node or invoke node. lots of fun stuff in there. attached is an example. one file is saved for labview 8.0, the other is saved for labview 8.6.

  • Want CP4 project to play like a "movie" - i.e. no mouse click by user to advance.  How?

I recorded a simple 2 minute, 7 slide project.  I want the project to play more like a "movie", meaning I don't need the user to "click" to advance to the next slide.  So, no breaks, just play the project from slide 1 to slide 7.  How can I make this happen.  Was looking into slide properties (on slide enter and on slide exit), but nothing seems to make it work the way I want.
    Any thought?

    Hello,
When you turned the PPT to a CP-file, which settings did you choose? You can have 'Automatic' or 'waiting for user clicks' (I'm not sure about the phrasing but you should recognize this). I presume that you choose the second option. Then the 'movie' will indeed wait for a user click.
