How do I set programs to open/close at set times?

I get free DL time overnight but like Cinderella must leave the ball or turn into a pumpkin.
To be more specific I'd like to launch applications at midnight and close them at 7am and/or disconnect from my ISP.
Being a total neophyte to Automator:
1. Am I looking at the right application to do the job?
2. Do I need some 3rd party software to do the timing?
3. How do I get at PPOE connect? Is it as simple as mousing up to the menu bar and just doing it?
Given I can find no action even remotely like what i want to do how do I start?

depending on what you have to do to disconnect, it may be System Prefs or Internet Connect...What exactly do you have to do ?
These are both Scriptable with AppleScript.
Maybe an Alternate to "quitting and disconnecting' would just be to tell your Mac to Sleep or Shutdown.
When it Sleeps the Internet connection is 'dropped'
There are Sleep. Restart and Shutdown Actions available for download on this page http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/automator/ which you can use in Automator.
Alternatively, you could use System Preferences-->Energy Settings-->Schedule to instigate the Sleep/Shutdown.

How to make Spry Collapsible Panels open one at a time?

Hello,
I am using CS5 and want to use the spry collapsible panels. What I notice (and I think this wasn't the case in cs3) is that all panels can be open at the same time. I don't want that happen. I only want one panel to be open at a time. If someone clicks on a panel that is closed, I want the current panel to close and the one they clicked on to open. I don't want multiple panels to be opne at once. How can I do this? I am not a web developer by any means, so please be easy on me with code. I think in CS3 it used to work this way. That's not a feature of the iPod or iPad. Or the iPhone for that matter. The most effective way is to take it away from them when they're not supposed to be using it.
If you don't want to do that, investigate the capabilities of your router to set time limits for specific devices.

I assigned the wah pedal in the guitar pedalboard to a track. I can see the parameter for Open and Close, or "pedal state" as something you can automate in the arrange window. But how can one assign your mod wheel to this effect?

How do I set Time Machine to backup a new startup drive?

The HD in my iMac is getting ready to bite the dust - it's hung up on me a few times recently and is making clicking noises intermittently. AppleCare has expired and I don't want to open the iMac to change the drive myself, nor do I want to pay Apple approx $400 to replace the old drive. I used Carbon Copy to clone the iMac's HD to an external firewire drive, and now I boot from the external drive.
I think Time Machine is still looking at the internal drive as the source drive, because it is having some problems now. How can I make sure that Time Machine is backing up the external drive?

Go to Time Machine Preferences > Options.
If the external drive is listed in the exclusions box, it is not getting backed up. Select it and click the minus sign at the bottom. Time Machine will do a full backup of it on the next run. That will, of course, require a lot of time and space on your TM drive.
If the internal HD isn't listed in the exclusions box, click the plus sign at the bottom, select it on the next window and click Exclude so Time Machine will quit trying to back it up.
And while running from the external, to view the backups of the internal HD, you'll need the procedure in #E3 of [Time Machine - Troubleshooting|http://web.me.com/pondini/Time_Machine/Troubleshooting.html] (or use the link in *User Tips* at the top of this forum).

Right off the bat let me say I am using Mavericks 10.9.1 on a 2011 Macbook Pro and using all Lacie external hard drives.
I am trying to get Time Machine to alternate between two attached external hard drives, trying to be safe in case one of the backup drives itself fails.
I have both drives set in Time Machine.
From what I gather Time Machine should by default alternate between drives when backing up (I would assume it does one big initial backup on each then subsequent backups are just changes).
But this is not how it seems to be working and I cannot find a straight answer despite much Googling and Foruming
Unfortunately it seems to only be backing up to "External Hard Drive 1".
There have been 4 backups since I set it up, all on "External Hard Drive 1", even though "External Hard Drive 2" is also attached and set in Time Machine.
I manually clicked "Back Up Now" and it started to work on "External Hard Drive 2" (like I want it to) for a minute but it appears to have stopped and gone back to backing up to "External Hard Drive 1".
Am I missing something? Does Time Machine only move on to another disk when the first one runs out of space? Do I have to turn one off in order to force it to back up to the other drive (that would be less convenient of course)?
I am hoping that I am missing something and that it will just alternate between the two. Otherwise it is not the most comforting and thorough backup system as I had hoped when I purchased the additional external hard drive.
I have a 1TB drive and a 500gig partition on another drive, both dedicated to backups (my Macbook HD is 475gig). It will take awhile for each to fill up and who knows what could happen during that time. Having Time Machine alternate between hard drives would be a nice small bit of security if the worst happened.
I realize that there are tons of other options for backing up but I just want to use Time Machine if I can.

You cannot use Time Machine in that way. I'm not sure where you heard that Time Machine alternates between drives automatically. What you can do is create a mirrored RAID array for the backup. This automatically duplicates whatever is on one drive onto the other drive.
Both drives must be the same size, and prefereably, exactly the same make and model. RAIDs can be configured using OS X's Disk Utility.

How do I set time signature?

I've finally decided to use this copy of Logic 8.0.2 that I bought and installed a few years ago. I'm moving from using Sibelius to compose and the interface has me a bit baffled.
I'd like to set the time signature from to 3/4 for a new project, but I can't find time signatures in the score offerings. I know it's probably simple, but I can't see it.
Can you tell me how to set the piece to 3 beats per bar?

this is done in the Global Tracks, which you can configure to your needs. right click on you global tracks header to configure them. Expand the appropriate sub-branch of this global tracks to find the time signature (of course, by default it's where you see the 4/4). Click on it (doubleclick) to change it.
