How do I set up a password to protect my computer at Start Up?

Hi all.
When I set up my Mac I set up a password, which I need to type in each time I install software.
But, how can I have a password there so that each time the computer is turned on, or wakes from sleep you have to type in the password. I.E. I don't want colleges to be able to see my things when I'm not around.
Thanks.

Go to System Preferences>Accounts>Password. Click on the lock in the bottom left-hand corner and type your password at the prompt. Select your account and click 'Login Options'. Uncheck 'Automaically log in as...'

    Hi
How do I set the firmware password in Mac OS 10.7.2 (MacBook Pro) ?
The Apple instructions only seem to go up to 10.5.x
    Thanks

Firmware password is not much use as any thief can reset it by pulling out the memory chips and putting them back in again.
The only real way to secure your data 99% is to use FileVault 2.

    Hello,
Different members of the family are using the same ipad. How can I set up a password for each email account to keep privacy ?

You can not - it's a single-account device, including email, so you can't set up seperate passwords for seperate emails. All or nothing, I'm afraid.

How do I set up a password for my airport extreme network?

AirPort Extreme Base Station Setup (AEBSn) - Wireless Encryption
    Setup the AEBSn
Either connect to the AEBSn's wireless network or temporarily connect your computer directly (using an Ethernet cable) to one of the LAN ports of the AEBSn, and then, using the AirPort Utility in Manual Mode, check these settings:
Manual Setup > AirPort > Wireless tab
    Wireless Security: <None | WEP (Transitional Security Network) | <b>WPA/WPA2 Personal</b> | WPA2 Personal>
Wireless Password: <enter your desired password>
Verify Password: <reenter your desired password>

  • How do you set a security password to control access to an external hard drive?

how do you set a security password to control access to an external hard drive?

The only way to reliably protect data, especially on an external hard drive, is to encrypt it.  Permissions don't have to be respected.  One way to encrypt data is to create an encrypted sparse bundle disk image with Disk Utility.  See:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1578
(Be sure to use the 256-bit encryption.)
Alternately, you could use some whole-disk encryption, though I have no experience with any of the software for doing that.  You could try the following:
    http://www.truecrypt.org/
I don't know that I would recommend the product being advertised inappropriately by keynesis.

  • HT203790 How do I set a backup password?

How can I set my backup password now, before I discover I haven't and cannot access my info?

I think you mean that your backup has a password, and you don't know what it is. You cannot change the backup password if you don't know the current one; if you could there would be no point in having encrypted backups. You will have to guess the current backup password. It is one that you know and have used in the past, because you entered it. To speed up the process uncheck "Encrypt backup" in iTunes. You will be prompted immediately for the password.
If I misinterpreted your question please set me straight.

Do you mean a new passcode on your iPad?  If it is disabled you will have to restore it via recovery mode using the recovery mode instructions in http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1808 or with iOS 7.0.4 you can also use the guidance of lllaass in https://discussions.apple.com/thread/5634135

Other options not covered in the article:
    1) You can plug both in under the same computer username and same iTunes Apple ID and give each device it's own name. You should be able to manage them as separate devices with different media, apps and screen layouts. All of your media would be in a common pool, though.
    2) Under one computer username, you can login and logout of two different iTunes Apple IDs. This option is cleaner with two computer usernames but it can be done with one.

  • How do I set up a password on my WRT54GS?

I have been using my wireless router for a couple of years and never bothered to set up a password... When I am away from home and try to use either my lap top or IPod Touch to connect to a wireless network, I notice that I need to enter a password to be allowed to do it... I would like to set up something similar in my wireless router so that anyone in my neighborhood attempting to use my wireless network has to enter a password before being able to do it.  How can I set this up?  I have no idea and would appreciate any help.... Thanks!

1st it is suggested you do these steps on a hardwired PC.
Step 1: Access the routers web based utility interface. To do this, open up Internet Explorer or any web browser and then type on the address bar http://192.168.1.1 (username just leave it blank, password as a default is admin).
Then click on WIRELESS and then WIRELESS SECURITY.
    Step 2:
Select WPA Personal under the Security Mode drop-down menu.
Enter your desired WPA Key on the WPA Shared Key field such as “MySecretKey.” This will serve as your network key whenever you connect to your wireless network.
NOTE: Do not give this key to anyone. This key will secure your wireless network. Leave Group Key Renewal to 3600 seconds.
Then save the settings and you are good to go from there.

Hey there , welcome to the community!
I apologize for the late reply. The workaround for this would be to create a new account. If you contact the accounts team through the online contact form they can set you up with a new account and transfer over all your content. If you receive an automated reply directing you back to the community, just reply to it and you will be connect with an agent that can assist you.
