How do i set up a separate itunes library for my wife so her synch doesn't pick up my library

I want to set up a separate library so that my wife's ipod doesn't try to synch with my existing library. Can it be done or is it possible to install two versions of itunes on the same PC?

to have separated Libraries from iTunes for your wife and you, i would recommend that you create a new second windows user account
thats the easiest way to avoid mix up of itunes content
if you create a second windows user account - itunes is already installed and only needs to be configured for your wife

You would each need to use your own user account on the Mac, you can do this at system preferences > users & groups.

Hello, thank you for your prompt answer. I did have an idea that Home sharing might be the answer but could not quite figure out how to do it. I have enabled home sharing in my iTunes account, put in username and password, clicked on creat etc. But the homs sharing icon doew not appear in the left side of iTunes. So I got stuck. Apple devices can hold protected content from up to five different accounts, however updating apps purchased over more than one account (as far as I'm aware) requires signing in and out of each account. You may be better off continuing to use one account for your family, as I do, but disabling the options on each device for the automatic download of purchases made on the account, and in iTunes, the automatic inclusion of new apps when syncing from the library to the device.

I have an ipad soley for my child's use and I'd like to disassociate this from my own AppleID which i use for my work iPad. I do not want the child to have the same apps nor features as I do. Setting up a separate AppleID sounds like a good idea; is there a way I can create a sub-account off of my own AppleID?

You can not create a 'sub-account'.
If the children are 13 or older, they can create their own accounts. If they are younger, the only legal option is to set up Family Sharing and create IDs for them that way.

Go to settings, App Store on ipad and click on the account listed then sign out. You should then be able to sign in with hers.

Need help setting up a new email account for my wife.

I've been trying to set up a separate email account for my wife with no success. I've gone to Preferences clicked the plus sign, it then asks for full name (my wifes'?) email address (would that be the one I pick for her or my email address?) and password- I'm assuming that's the password I use to get my email. It tells me it's checking connection to mail server and then says login to "POP failed".

New email accounts should be created and set up first with your email service provider--contact them for information about how to do that. Just making up a new address and typing it into Mail's preferences doesn't create a new email account.
Edited to add: In addition, you probably want to establish a new user account for your wife on your Mac, so that you and she have separate folders and inboxes for your mail, once she has her own account set up. Separate user accounts also mean the two of you can have separate bookmarks on your browsers, separate document folders, and so on--almost as if you each had your own computer.

You don't need separate iCloud accounts if you want to simply sync unique content to each device using iTunes. I have three iDevices using one ID and one iTunes library and each device has it's own content on it. You need to set up the sync configuration for each device. This is what I recommend.
First turn off auto sync in iTunes. Launch iTunes on the Mac and go to iTunes>Preferences>Devices>Prevent iPods, iPhones and iPads from automatically syncing. Click OK and then quit iTunes.
Connect one of your devices to the Mac and launch iTunes.
Click on the device name on the left side under the devices heading.
Click on a tab in iTunes - Apps for instance.
Click on the Apps that you want to sync to that device.
Make sure that the Sync Apps heading is checked.
Follow the same procedure for all of the other tabs in iTunes ..... Music, Photos, Movies and so on.
After you have finished making all of your selections, click on Apply in the lower right corner of iTunes.
When you are done, eject the first device and do the same thing with the other device. iTunes will now remember the sync configuration on each device.
You can change that configuration any time that you like by following the steps outlined above.
If you want to continue to auto sync, turn it back on in the iTunes preferences as described above.

An account means an iTunes Store account which is an online service. Do you mean that, or do you mean a library on a computer?
iOS devices can only be synced to one iTunes library at a time. You can sync that iPod to your account but it will wipe everything currently on it.

I could post another 2 pages of stuff trying to cover every possible scenario. It would help if you let us know exactly what you want to do. Are you trying to sync just a few songs (like giving them to a friend which is something iTunes is deliberately set up not to do)?
