How do I set up an additional user on my MacBook Pro?

Go to System Preferences>Users and Groups.  Then click on the lock (if it's locked), to unlock the pane.  You will have to put in your password.  Then click on the + to add an account.  Add a password, and give it privileges.  You can make an admin account (not recommended if you're letting a stranger or a kid use your computer, but that's your choice).  Hope this helps.

  • I have just set up an additional user on my Macbook Pro but...

    Hi,
I have just set up an additional user on my Macbook Pro but...
We have just moved country from the UK to the USA. So we had to sell our iMac, which was primarily my wife's.
I have the new 15" Macbook pro, and decided to set up an additional user so my wife.
Everything is working fine apart from safari.
The bookmarks from my browser appear on her safari browser to. This pretty much defeats the object of 2 users, because all she does is shop online.
I really don't want to have shopping site cluttering up my bookmarks bar, or other bookmark folders on my log in.
Does anybody know if this can be changed?
    Help please.
    Cheers,
    Pete

Do both account make use of the same Apple ID? In that case Safari will use the same settings, which are stored on iCloud. To prevent this, open System Preferences in your wife's account, select iCloud and deselect Safari from the list.

  • HT4436 how do I set up an icloud account on my macbook pro with 10.6.8 - all it has is mobile me under internet and wireless????

help, how do I set up an icloud account on my macbook pro with 10.6.8 — all it has is "mobile me" under internet and wireless on my system doc????

You should check that your Mac meets the requirements for upgrading.
    The requirements for Lion are:
Mac computer with an Intel Core 2 Duo, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7, or Xeon processor
    2GB of memory
    OS X v10.6.6 or later (v10.6.8 recommended)
    7GB of available space
To purchase it you will have to ring Apple at the number given at the bottom left of this page.
The requirements for Mountain Lion are listed here:
    http://www.apple.com/osx/specs/
It is available from the Mac App Store (in Applications).
You should be aware that PPC programs (such as AppleWorks) will not run on Lion or above; and some other applications may not be compatible - there is a useful compatibility checklist at http://roaringapps.com/apps:table

  • How can I set up the canon printer mf4380dn for macbook pro MD318

I can not set up the canon printer mf4380dn for macbook pro MD318 even thought I set up the printing driver already. The printer usually work good for printing via windows laptop.
I tried some way but error appear "unable to verify the printer on your network". I printing IP is available

Upgrade your RAM to at least 4GB's.  Your machine can support 6GB's, but upgrade to 4GB's first. Regardless of what Apple says, you need at least 4GB's to run Lion properly.

  • How do i set up my messages on my new MacBook Pro?

how do i set up "messages" on my new macbookpro?

    Hello Monique,
Thank you for the question.  It sounds like you are trying to set up iMessage on your MacBook Pro.  You can sign into iMessage using the steps below:
iMessage uses Apple ID accounts. Take note of your Apple ID and password. Apple ID accounts are used for purchasing content in iTunes, App Store, and so forth. Read this article for more information about Apple ID.
Use any of these methods to add an iMessages account to Messages when:
Setting up your Mac or user account for the first timeWhen you set up your Mac or a new OS X user account, enter your Apple ID and password to automatically add Messages to your iMessages account.
Using Messages for the first timeWhen you open Messages for the first time, you should see the iMessages Setup sheet to sign in.
Messages is already set up to use an iMessage account:
    Choose Messages > Preferences… > Accounts (toolbar)
Click iMessages in the Accounts tab on the left.
Enter your Apple ID and password or click "Create Apple ID…" and follow the onscreen instructions.
You can find the full article here:
    Mac Basics: Messages
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5395
I recommend signing into iMessage with the same Apple ID you use for iMessage on your other devices.  If you have an iOS device, you can check what Apple ID is being used by going to Settings > Messages > Send & Receive.  If you don't use an iOS device, you can use the same Apple ID you use for iCloud or iTunes.

If you are still not receiving messages sent by your friend after setting iMessage up on your MacBook Pro, I suggest reviewing the following article:

  • How do I set up file sharing between iMAC and MacBook Pro?

I am unable to use "file sharing".  When trying to connect as a "registered user" it asks for my server password.  What is that?  I have tried every password I think it could be.  I also can not connect as "using an Apple ID"

You can set up "iCloud" on all of them and select there to sync your Documents.  You must be running Mountain Lion on the MBA and iOS 6 on the iPhone and iPad in order to use iCloud:

  • Deleting additional user accounts from MacBook Pro

I am trying to delete added accounts on my mac.  I do not have an 'account' or a 'users & groups' icon in my system preference.  I think I am missing something.  I do not know how they were added.  TY

Yup, you're missing a couple other items there as well. Have you run some kind of "cleaning" utility or something like that recently, or otherwise tampered with the system?
In any case, though, Apple support is correct, you need to reinstall the system, which means you'll need to know where your discs are. It's possible the Apple Store will be willing to reinstall the system for you, but I believe they'll charge you for that, and you'll still have no disc, which you really need to have. If your machine shipped with 10.6, you can get new copies of the gray discs that shipped with the machine from Apple for a small shipping & handling fee. If it shipped with an earlier system, you can get a new 10.6 disc from Apple:

    Hold Option, launch iTunes.
Select Choose library... and select the iTunes folder on the external.
    Do this for all users.
