How do I set up Aperture 3 for use with wide gamut monitor?

I use a NEC 2690wuxi attached to a macbook pro for my main screen when i do retouching on photos. Right now the images come up a bit neon on the NEC and look fine on the laptop screen. Is there a way to adjust this?...
I have no problem with this when working in Photoshop CS3 or Lightroom 2.6.
thanks...

I have the same problem using my macbook Pro and a EIZO CG241W monitor.
I calibrate both the macbook screen and the EIZO and set the colorsync profile to make the EIZO the default profile. If I have aperture on the macbook screen all appears ok including the picture I open in Photoshop to compare. If I have the preview on the external monitor the colors are overly saturated in Aperture and no where close to the picture opened in photoshop. Strangely enough the thumbnail previews seem to show the proper color.It is the large preview as well as the mirrored screen (option+M) that show the wrong colors. I also notice that if I click on an image opened in Photoshop CS4 and drag it to the external monitor that as long as I hold it clicked the colors match those in the preview but as soon as I let go the colors change back to what I think is the proper colors. This means that Aperture is still using the macbook monitor profile even though the EIZO monitor has been set as default in the colorsync program. I have had the same issue with aperture2.
Photoshop, bridge,lightroom 2 and Phaseone Capture 1 Pro versions 3 through 5 all handle the profiles correctly. I have been doing pre press for european catalogues for years this way. I also reverted to OS X 10.5.8 after having installed snow leopard as snow leopard also had colorsync problems while using dual monitors on a Macbook Pro. I don't think anyone here in the forums will have a solution to this problem ,I can only hope enough people have complained to apple directly so that the software engineers will be put to work to fix this problem. Aperture 3 is absolutely impossible for me to use like this and I am very disappointed to have spent money on professional software that obviously does not work correctly on a dual monitor set up. And no.. I can not do proper color correction on my MAcbook Pro Screen!!
Should anyone have an idea how to solve the problem outside of the obvious answers I am all ears,
as of now I will copy this and send it to apple support!

  • Problem: Color Management/Save for Web on Wide Gamut Monitor

    Hi,
    I've got a problem with color management - I thought I understood it, but it seems as if didn't. So I'm trying to kindly ask for help.
    I'm printing, and also trying to save an image for Web.
    My setup:
    - Win 7, CS 5
    - Calibrated Wide Gamut Monitor (eizo cg223w)
    - Photoshop set to ProPhoto (I don't want to start a discussion adobergb vs prophoto)
    - Save for Web and Devices, Embed Color Profile, Convert to SRGB
    - Viewing in Firefox 3.6 with Color Management enabled
    Problem:
    Image: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/311345/luchs-1024.jpg
    If I compare the file in Firefox and Photoshop, the Firefox presentation is slightly more saturated - and I have no idea why.
    I thought it should work with the above workflow.
    Here is a screenshot where you can clearly see a difference (Note: the additional over-saturation here is caused by the wide gammut monitor when taking screenshots, in reality its not as dramatic as that): http://imgur.com/MFPbU but you can clearly see the difference.
    I would be very very thankful for any pointers what I'm doing wrong in my workflow!
    Thanks in advance,
    Christoph

    Is this the preferred way?
    It's a reasonable and correct way to do it, assuming you want to embed a profile in the images.
    Since at least in some browsers and cases the colors selected within the HTML elements must match image colors, one can sometimes make a case for not embedding any profile at all, but that's really looking backwards.  Browsers are moving forward toward not only managing colors in images but also in the HTML elements themselves.  If you want your images accurately portrayed in as many places as possible you're doing the right thing looking forward.
    Personally I embed the sRGB profile in my web images, as you are doing.  And I check things primarily with IE and Safari.
    Unlike you, I prefer to edit using the sRGB color space, but that's just personal preference.  I find it more convenient to use File - Save As instead of File - Save For Web & Devices, and I get caught by gotchas less often this way.  Your preference ensures you don't lose any colors at the extremes of the gamut while editing and it could easily be argued that that's better, depending on what image products you produce.
    As for the article you mentioned, anyone who would set their preferred working space to Monitor RGB or use Proof Colors in normal editing is asking for trouble, and may not understand color management at all.

  • How Do I create a Modular Function for use with Event Listeners

    OK I'm very new to AS3 and I'm curious as to how to get
    modular functions to work in AS3.
    for instance if I have this code:
    function snowfall(snowflake:MovieClip, movement:Number):void
    snowflake.y = movement;
    snowfall(snowflake1_mc, 10);
    snowfall(snowflake2_mc, 20);
    snowfall(snowflake3_mc, 30);
    Now on the stage I place 3 instances of a snowflake movie
    clip. Each time I call the "snowfall" function I refer to a new
    instance of the snowflake movie clip and a different amount of
    movement along the y axis.
    This is great but what if I want to use a button to control
    these snowflake movie clips and I want to maintain that modular
    nature? I don't really get how to do this. I created a button with
    an instance name of "myButton" and I've tried this code but it is
    throwing an error I don't really understand:
    myButton.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK,
    snowfall(snowflake3_mc, 30));
    Can I not pass information to a function using an
    EventListener?

    Hi --
    What you want to do on your button is this..
    myButton.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK,snowfall)
    Then in the function you can check which button called the
    function using
    properties of the event..
    function snowfall(event:MouseEvent) {
    trace(event)
    I am not sure off the top of my head of the data available in
    the "event"
    but the trace will show you all the variables you can access.
    As far as the amount of movement -- how is this information
    set? You can
    keep this in a global variable and then read it from inside
    the event
    handler rather than needing to pass it to the event.

  • How do I set miminum # of connections for pool with Oracle and Tomcat?

    Hi,
    I can't seem to find any attribute to initialize the number of connections for my connection pool. Here is my current context.xml file under my /App1 directory:
    <Context path="/App1" docBase="App1"
    debug="5" reloadable="true" crossContext="true">
    <Resource name="App1ConnectionPool" auth="Container"
    type="oracle.jdbc.pool.OracleDataSource"
    driverClassName="oracle.jdbc.driver.OracleDriver"
    factory="oracle.jdbc.pool.OracleDataSourceFactory"
    url="jdbc:oracle:thin:@127.0.0.1:1521:oddjob"
    user="app1" password="app1" />
    </Context>
    I've been googling and reading forums, but haven't found a way to establish the minimum number of connections. I've tried all sorts of parameters like InitialLimit, MinLimit, MinActive, etc, with no success.
    Here is some sample code that I am testing:
    package web;
    import oracle.jdbc.pool.OracleDataSource;
    import oracle.jdbc.OracleConnection;
    import javax.naming.*;
    import java.sql.SQLException;
    import java.sql.ResultSet;
    import java.sql.Statement;
    import java.util.Properties;
    public class ConnectionPool {
    String message = "Not Connected";
    public void init() {
    OracleConnection conn = null;
    ResultSet rst = null;
    Statement stmt = null;
    try {
    Context initContext = new InitialContext();
    Context envContext = (Context) initContext.lookup("java:/comp/env");
    OracleDataSource ds = (OracleDataSource) envContext.lookup("App1ConnectionPool");
    message = "Here.";
         String user = ds.getUser();
    if (envContext == null)
    throw new Exception("Error: No Context");
    if (ds == null)
    throw new Exception("Error: No DataSource");
    if (ds != null) {
    message = "Trying to connect...";
    conn = (OracleConnection) ds.getConnection();
    Properties prop = new Properties();
    prop.put("PROXY_USER_NAME", "adavey/xxx");
    if (conn != null) {
    message = "Got Connection " + conn.toString() + ", ";
              conn.openProxySession(OracleConnection.PROXYTYPE_USER_NAME,prop);
    stmt = conn.createStatement();
    rst = stmt.executeQuery("SELECT username, server from v$session where username is not null");
    while (rst.next()) {
    message = "DS User: " + user + "; DB User: " + rst.getString(1) + "; Server: " + rst.getString(2);
    rst.close();
    rst = null;
    stmt.close();
    stmt = null;
    conn.close(); // Return to connection pool
    conn = null; // Make sure we don't close it twice
    } catch (Exception e) {
    e.printStackTrace();
    } finally {
    // Always make sure result sets and statements are closed,
    // and the connection is returned to the pool
    if (rst != null) {
    try {
    rst.close();
    } catch (SQLException e) {
    rst = null;
    if (stmt != null) {
    try {
    stmt.close();
    } catch (SQLException e) {
    stmt = null;
    if (conn != null) {
    try {
    conn.close();
    } catch (SQLException e) {
    conn = null;
    public String getMessage() {
    return message;
    I'm using a utility to repeatedly call a JSP page that uses this class and displays the message variable. This utility allows me to specify the number of concurrent web requests and an overall number of requests to try. While that is running, I look at V$SESSION in Oracle and occassionaly, I will see a brief entry for app1 or adavey depending on the timing of my query and how far along the code has processed in this example. So it seems that I am only using one connection at a time and not a true connection pool.
    Is it possible that I need to use the oci driver instead of the thin driver? I've looked at the javadoc for oci and the OCIConnectionPool has a setPoolConfig method to set initial, min and max connections. However, it appears that this can only be set via Java code and not as a parameter in my context.xml resource file. If I have to set it each time I get a database connection, it seems like it sort of defeats the purpose of having Tomcat maintain the connection pool for me and that I need to implement my own connection pool. I'm a newbie to this technology so I really don't want to go this route.
    Any advice on setting up a proper connection pool that works with Tomcat and Oracle proxy sessions would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Alan

    Well I did some more experiments and I am able to at least create a connection pool within my example code:
    package web;
    import oracle.jdbc.pool.OracleDataSource;
    import oracle.jdbc.OracleConnection;
    import javax.naming.*;
    import java.sql.SQLException;
    import java.sql.ResultSet;
    import java.sql.Statement;
    import java.util.Properties;
    public class ConnectionPool {
    String message = "Not Connected";
    public void init() {
    OracleConnection conn = null;
    ResultSet rst = null;
    Statement stmt = null;
    try {
    Context initContext = new InitialContext();
    Context envContext = (Context) initContext.lookup("java:/comp/env");
    OracleDataSource ds = (OracleDataSource) envContext.lookup("App1ConnectionPool");
    message = "Here.";
         String user = ds.getUser();
    if (envContext == null)
    throw new Exception("Error: No Context");
    if (ds == null)
    throw new Exception("Error: No DataSource");
    if (ds != null) {
    message = "Trying to connect...";
    boolean cache_enabled = ds.getConnectionCachingEnabled();
    if (!cache_enabled){
    ds.setConnectionCachingEnabled(true);
    Properties cacheProps = new Properties();
    cacheProps.put("InitialLimit","5");
         cacheProps.put("MinLimit","5");
    cacheProps.put("MaxLimit","10");
    ds.setConnectionCacheProperties(cacheProps);
              conn = (OracleConnection) ds.getConnection();
    Properties prop = new Properties();
    prop.put("PROXY_USER_NAME", "adavey/xyz");
    if (conn != null) {
    message = "Got Connection " + conn.toString() + ", ";
              conn.openProxySession(OracleConnection.PROXYTYPE_USER_NAME,prop);
    stmt = conn.createStatement();
    //rst = stmt.executeQuery("SELECT 'Success obtaining connection' FROM DUAL");
    rst = stmt.executeQuery("SELECT user, SYS_CONTEXT ('USERENV', 'SESSION_USER') from dual");
    while (rst.next()) {
    message = "DS User: " + user + "; DB User: " + rst.getString(1) + "; sys_context: " + rst.getString(2);
    message += "; Was cache enabled?: " + cache_enabled;
    rst.close();
    rst = null;
    stmt.close();
    stmt = null;
    conn.close(OracleConnection.PROXY_SESSION); // Return to connection pool
    conn = null; // Make sure we don't close it twice
    } catch (Exception e) {
    e.printStackTrace();
    } finally {
    // Always make sure result sets and statements are closed,
    // and the connection is returned to the pool
    if (rst != null) {
    try {
    rst.close();
    } catch (SQLException e) {
    rst = null;
    if (stmt != null) {
    try {
    stmt.close();
    } catch (SQLException e) {
    stmt = null;
    if (conn != null) {
    try {
    conn.close();
    } catch (SQLException e) {
    conn = null;
    public String getMessage() {
    return message;
    In my context.xml file, I tried to specify the same Connection Cache Properties as attributes, but no luck:
    <Context path="/App1" docBase="App1"
    debug="5" reloadable="true" crossContext="true">
    <Resource name="App1ConnectionPool" auth="Container"
    type="oracle.jdbc.pool.OracleDataSource"
    driverClassName="oracle.jdbc.OracleDriver"
    factory="oracle.jdbc.pool.OracleDataSourceFactory"
    url="jdbc:oracle:thin:@127.0.0.1:1521:oddjob"
    user="app1" password="app1"
    ConnectionCachingEnabled="1" MinLimit="5" MaxLimit="20"/>
    </Context>
    These attributes seemed to have no effect:
    ConnectionCachingEnabled="1" ; also tried "true"
    MinLimit="5"
    MaxLimit="20"
    So basically if I could find some way to get these attributes set within the context.xml file instead of my code, I would be a happy developer :-)
    Oh well, it's almost Miller time here on the east coast. Maybe a few beers will help me find the solution I'm looking for.

  • How to make a fill in template for use with ipad

    If I have a custom made excel spreadsheet, that I use for fill in information, what app do i need to open, fill in and save the template for printing and sharing

    As an update for the actual table, the scenario is a bit different from this example: there is a form filled in with information.  Some is correct, some incorrect. I am trying to simulate a supervisor reviewing the form and finding and fixing the incorrect information. And yes, it has to be accessible.
    I used two methods.  First, I split up the table into individual quiz questions using T/F and Fill-In-The-Blank.  The T/F asks the learner if all of the information for the day is correct. Then they use Fill-In-The-Blank to correct wrong answers.  It worked, kinda, but the graded quizzes in Cp6 do not indicate specifically what was right and wrong (just the correct or incorrect feedback text boxes appear), so it is not as useful to the learner.
    I am now working another tactic: The table is imported as an image.  I plan to hand-type the contents into the Accessibility tab.  Since the info is only meant to be read horizontally (by day), I am hoping that that works.  Each data cell is overlayed with a transparent smartshape, named, and has its own variable. On clicking, the variable increments by 1. That is how the learner can indicate which cells contain wrong information.
    There are advanced actions for each cell to indicate whether they clicked correctly or not.  Now my issue is that I have one "Submit" button and want to launch 10 advanced actions at one time. Is there any way to trigger that?

    I have recently upgraded to Mavericks and now find that my old Word files (2004) can't be opened. (I can still open my Word 2008 files.) I have been a maths teacher for decades and have many old files which are still very useful but they contain more than just text; they contain diagrams, MathType expressions etc. etc. I need to be able to convert these files to files that can be opened with Mavericks. Can anyone tell me how I can do this?

    Office 2008 should function in Mavericks and it willl open Office 2004 files:
    http://roaringapps.com/app/microsoft-office-2008
    Hence, you do not need to partition and install Snow Leopard into a new partition.  I gave you my previous advice before you indicated you are now using Office 2008.

    You should convert the media to QuickTime. Without knowing any specifics most likely the simplest way is to use MPEG Streamclip.

  • How can I establish an enum typedef for use with state machines and action engines?

    Hey all--
    I have an action engine with several instances.  Any time that I add a method to the engine, I have to modify all of the calling code to update the constant that determines the method being called.  There must be a smarter way to address this problem but my LV experience is insufficient to identify it.  Can any of you wiz-bangs tell me if it is possible to make a type def (I can do this) and use it with each instance of the action engine call so that changing any instance also updates the typedef?
    Thanks.

    Take your enumerator.  If it is not a control (ie constant), change it to a control.
    Under File Menu, select New > Custom Control.
    Move (or copy) your Enum Control to the Custom Control.  Change the Control to Strict Type Def (the selection to the right of the wrench).  Save it.
    (EDIT: ** OOps, the picture shows the wrong one.. sorry**)
    Copy that new Strict Type Def control to your code.
    See images below.
    OR.. If you're using LV8.x, and using a project, I would recomment that you do it from within your project explorer.  Simply insert a new "Control".  The rest of the steps are similar, except that you can insert it from your project.

    Will alienate? They've already alienated users a long time

    users are alienated, it only matters if the users need flash.
    The only thing that could make flash player better is open
    source. I don't see why they don't do it. They make money on the
    authoring tool, not the player. All of my Linux machines are ppc

    are very serious, legitimate, complaints against it.
    Anyway, for now I'm hoping that SVG matures quickly.
    Although, I"m sure that once Adobe sees that train coming, they
    will extend Flash (dev.) to export SVG movies containing embedded
    binary data that can only play with their binary plugin.

  • Wide gamut monitors and prepping files for website

    This question is for those who are colour management savvy and understand the issues with prepping sRGB profiled files for the web. I thought I was pretty good at this stuff, but found out I'm not as good as I thought....
    Problem - prepping my images for my own website using a wide gamut monitor (NEC 2690 with SpectraView calibrating software).
    Issue - when viewing said images after placing in website, on wide gamut monitor, reds are over saturated and colour not as it was in prepped file. My "other" monitor is a laptop screen (profiled, but still......). I do need to get an sRGB monitor  (the NEC "regular" 24" or an Apple), but funds are tight right now.
    I'm pretty sure all my workflow is good - profiled monitor (gamma 2.2), colour settings in Photoshop (I change over to n. American web/internet work space when prepping files for web), converting files to sRGB etc.
    It's when I go to Save For Web.
    I am embedding the ICC profile (for Safari and Firefox users), but when previewing the image in the browser (Safari) the image is as described above - over saturated in the reds etc. It looks the same after load onto my website and viewing in colour managed browser (Safari and Firefox).
    Is this simply an issue of the wide gamut monitor "stretching" the available sRGB numbers to fit the (almost) aRGB space on the monitor?
    Or is this something to do with the Monitor RGB (or is that the same thing......)????
    Or am I missing something else???
    any explanation of what is happening from a colour management point of view - and how best to deal with it - would be greatly appreciated. Also any books/articles/threads.
    Thanks!
    Oh yes, I'm using CS3.

    I'm using the Spider Pro to calibrate my monitor and everything looks great in Photoshop, Illustrator and Firefox 3.5 with color management turned on. But the lack of color management in Fireworks is still a problem because I'm not seeing the colors the way they will look on most people's monitors. I can't design unless I can see what most people will be seeing.
    Fireworks should be using that ICC profile that my calibrator generated but instead its sending the colors to the monitor raw. This is what's causing the over-saturation. This really is quite unacceptable.

  • How do you set up Port Forwarding for ARD 2.2 in AEB N?

    Help,
    I'm a novice at Apple Remote Desktop (ARD) - not an IT guy, so it has to be pretty basic and detailed.
    How do you set up Port Forwarding for ARD 2.2 on the Apple Airport Extreme BS router, 802.11 N. I have one at each end of the internet connection. At one end I have an Airport Extreme N router with 2 macs and eventually 1 windows XP machine (if I can) that I would like to be able to connect to over the interenet (the clients) and at the other end, I have a Mac with ARD 2.2 installed also with an Airport Extreme N router. Note: Both routers use Static IP addresses and all computers use static IP's internally not through DHCP. What are the settings or directions to do this.
    I have read and printed out the directions for Configuration of ARD 3.0 that are posted many times in the ARD discusion group, but it uses a Linksys router ( http://www.starkpr.com/ard.htm posted by Dave Sawyer). The Mac router is different, particularly with the place to set a Private IP address. I'm not sure about alot of things, but especially about the Private IP address, what number do I set it to, the one that is in my Network connections list? It automatically changes to a different number in AE N setup for Port Forwarding (by one) as if it is not suppose to the same?????
    Are there any directions available that are as straight forward for the Airport Extreme N router, as the one's that are listed here for the Linksys Router's? ( http://www.starkpr.com/ard.htm )
    Any and All help will be greatly appreciated.
    P.S. I know I should have 3.0 but bought 2.2 just weeks before 3.0 came out and they would not give me an upgrade price, so I'm waiting for 4.0 to upgrade.
    Thanks,
    Jim

    Try the following for each AirPort Extreme ...
    AEBSn - Port Mapping Setup
    To setup port mapping on an 802.11n AirPort Extreme Base Station (AEBSn), either connect to the AEBSn's wireless network or temporarily connect directly, using an Ethernet cable, to one of the LAN port of the AEBSn, and then use the AirPort Utility, in Manual Setup, to make these settings:
    1. Reserve a DHCP-provided IP address for the host device.
    Internet > DHCP tab
    o On the DHCP tab, click the "+" (Add) button to enter DHCP Reservations.
    o Description: <enter the desired description of the host device>
    o Reserve address by: MAC Address
    o Click Continue.
    o MAC Address: <enter the MAC (what Apple calls Ethernet ID if you are using wired or AirPort ID if wireless) hardware address of the host computer>
    o IPv4 Address: <enter the desired IP address>
    o Click Done.
    2. Setup Port Mapping on the AEBSn.
    Advanced > Port Mapping tab
    o Click the "+" (Add) button
    o Service: <choose the appropriate service from the Service pop-up menu>
    o Public UDP Port(s): 3283
    o Public TCP Port(s): 3283
    o Private IP Address: <enter the IP address of the host server>
    o Private UDP Port(s): 3283
    o Private TCP Port(s): 3283
    o Click "Continue"
    o Click the "+" (Add) button
    o Service: <choose the appropriate service from the Service pop-up menu>
    o Public UDP Port(s):
    o Public TCP Port(s): 5900
    o Private IP Address: <enter the IP address of the host server>
    o Private UDP Port(s):
    o Private TCP Port(s): 5900
    o Click "Continue"
    o Click the "+" (Add) button
