How do I set up dual 30" cinema displays on a 2x2.4 GHz Quad Core Intel Xeon Mac?
I have this amazing apple mac pro. However, I also have two amazing fully functional 30" cinema hd displays. for some reason, when I have both displays mounted to the mac pro, one display is at the entirely wrong display setting (too large) and the other is set perfectly. Is there something I should know about when setting up? I've gone through all the configs within prefences>displays as well. even switched ports on the tower to check that it wasn't the display and it's the same. seems to be what the card is sending out the two ports. one port is dvi the other is mini. any help would be greatly appreciated as I'm trying to utilize two monitor set up in fcp.
Thanks,
Mark
To get full resolution on a 30" display from a Mini DisplayPort, you need a DUAL-LINK DVI adapter.

How do I set up 2 17" cinema displays to my G5?
I've got an early G5 with a Nvidia G Force FX 5200 card. I have my original 17" cinema display on the card and have purchased a second one which I'd like to add to the card, so I'm working with two displays. Could anyone please tell me what kind of adapter I would need to do this?
Thanks.

2 Dual core intel xeon vs quad core. Whats the difference??
I came across someone who's selling his mac pro 1.1 (aprox 2-3 years old machine) which hosts 2 dual core intel xeon processors 2.66 Ghz (4 total cores) with an L2 cache of 4 MB per processor and 3 gb of RAM. He is asking for 1200.00
I wonder:
1. is there a significant difference between the machine described above and the new 2.66GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon 3500 series processor machines Apple offers?
2. Is 1200 a good deal considering its a 2-3 year old machine? how much would it cost me brand new?
3. I am planning to purchase the machine to use Logic Pro 8 (considering to upgrade to 9) which I currently run on my mac book intel core duo 1.8 GHZ. Which of the two machines will be optimal for it?
Thanks in advance for your time!Using the scores on the GeekBench site, I show that a Mac Pro 1,1 2.66GHz gets a score of 4544.

The Mac Pro 4,1 Quad Core 2.66GHz with all its Nehalem glory gets a score of 9256.

Benchmark tests versus real-world performance, along with your mileage, may vary. But that should give you an idea of what kind of what you're getting. -
How can I run a 27" Apple Cinema Display and another monitor from my MacBook Pro?
Hi everyone,
I recently purchased a brand new 15" MacBook Pro to replace my old one. I was told when ordering it that I would be able to hook up two external monitors to it using the Matrox DualHead2Go hardware. So, I also bought a 27" Cinema Display (non-Thunderbolt since it wouldn't work with the DH2Go). However, when I contacted Matrox they said their products don't support screens as large as the 27" ACD.
Bummer!
So, my question is: does anyone know how I can hookup a 27" Apple Cinema Display at 2560x1440 and a Acer 22" monitor at 1685x1050 (or, anything less really) to my new MacBook Pro?
I've looked around and haven't been able to find a good answer.
Thanks for your help! Will something like this work? A USB to VGA adapter? Can I use this at the same time that I have a Cinema Display plugged into the Mini-DVI port and will they both work at the same time? Anyone know?

Some of the album artwork on my iPod is wrong. I've tried to change it many times but it doesn't change. I've decided that the easiest thing to do now would be to NOT display album artwork on my iPod. How do I set my iPod to NOT display album art? I've checked the User manual and that doesn't help.
Why don't you, instead of taking time to do that, just backup, and then restore your iPod?
Just a suggestion.. -
How do I set up an indicator to display for only 1 second?
How do I set up an indicator to display for only 1 second?
I am reading keys from a serial device and I turn on an indicator that corresponds to the key pressed
on the serial device but how do I set this up so that it only stays lit (enabled) for a second or two?
The indicator is inside of a case statement and turns on OK but I do not want it to stay on for more than
a second or two. How do I modify this to display for only a second or two?
(P.S. I am running an old version 8.2 and can only see vis that are 8.2 or older.)
thanksSimplest way to turn the indicator off (false value) after a set time is to use a Sequence structure (flat or stacked).
Frame 1, set to true,
Frame 2, Wait ms (wire millisecond value to wait)
Frame 3, set to false.
This method, however, prevents the code outside the case structure from running during that wait time.
Something more elaborate will allow the external code to run. What comes to mind is a shift register that holds the indicator name and the time stamp (in milliseconds) when it was turned on, in an array of clusters. Each iteration of your loop will check this register to see if a certain time has passed (current time stamp minus turn on time). If so, use a case structure to turn the indicator off and remove the elements from the shift register array (so you don't keep setting the indicator to false). The array will let you control multiple indicators independently.
A problem with this option could arise from multiple readings. Lets say you want to turn it off after 2 seconds, but you read the value again after 1 second (this means the indicator should be on for a total of 3). The code would still turn it off after the 2 second mark. Of course this really depends on the time intervals involved with your code. -

Hi there,
I'm considering buying either a Mac Mini (2.7GHz Dual Core Intel Core i5) or an iMac (2.7GHz Quad Core Intel Core i5). I'm just wondering what the difference in speed is between the two different chips. If both had 4GB of memory would the iMac be a lot faster than the Mac Mini? I'm a graphic designer so I'd be mostly using Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop.
Many thanks,

how can I operate multi displays on my Imac 21.5 quad core 2.5 using Lion and have each display function independently?
Below are some converters/adapters to look at. If these look like they may work:
USB 2.0 to HDMI Audio Video 1080P Adapter for Windows and Macbook
Matrox DualHead2Go D2G-A2D-IF (or look here)
These should allow you to run multiple displays in extended display mode. Note that these use HDMI as an output so you would need some additional adapter to conver HDMI to whatever your displays require. Of course these suggestions are all academic if such an adapter doesn't exist.
Update:
I just reread your last post and I am confused. Is it only your TV that you are trying to run in extended display mode? I thought you wanted more than two displays. If only the TV it should just work if you are not using mirrored displays. Your Displays Arrangement tab should show both your main screen (one with the little whith menu bar) and the TV. Set the proper resolution and refresh rate for the TV using it's Displays preference window. That is all you need to basically do (ignoring overscan/underscan problems).
Note, if you are using Lion then I have heard that when using full screen mode in Lion additional screens show nothing. -
Fastest Video Card for Mac Pro with Dual-Core Intel Xeon
Can anyone offer advise on whether I can update the video card in my Mac Pro Dual-Core Intel Xeon computer? I'm pretty sure i can but I have no idea how to upgrade and what to look for in video cards. I do know that I want something fast, hopefully faster than the current ATI Radeon X1900 XT for use with Aperture 3.0. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

I have tried to install 10.6 and when install is complete it says restart. The computer restarts but keeps coming to a gray screen with a small black box that says to restart. The processor is 2 x 2.66 GHz Dual Core Intel Xeon with 2 GB of memory. This should be more than adequate. Any ideas? Has anyone encountered this before? I had to restore 10.5 from Time Machine.
Your sig line says iMac, but TMK no iMacs were ever made with 2x2.66 GHz processors. Is this a Mac Pro you are installing on? Are you using a retail Snow Leopaard DVD?

How do I transfer contents of hard drive on PPC iMac G4 to a new quad-core Intel Core i5
Although my PPC iMac G4 still works OK, I am beginning to realise the time has probably come to get a current model in order to keep up with all the advances that have happened since I bought it about 8 years ago: I will probably get the new quad-core Intel Core i5.
As this will only be my second computer, I am wondering how I can transfer all the stuff on my hard drive onto a new computer and how easy it will be,given the apparently outdated connections on my G4 like USB 1,and possibly other things I don't know about.I am running 10.4.11.
Any tips gratefully received. As Allen indicates, Setup Assistant appears automatically, since you do have firewire, the transfer should be speedy, depending on how much data are on the G4. The firewire on your G4 is FW400, your new Mac has FW800, but you can get an inexensive adaptor that will allow the connection, since the ports are different.
You don't need an external now, but I strongly advise getting one, with a drive as large or larger than your new Mac, you should clone/back up frequently, I use SuperDuper! which will allow automatic backups. -
I've just upgraded from 10.5 to 10.6.8 on a Mac Pro Dual-Core Intell Xeon, 2.66GHz. Is it possilbe to upgrade to Lion 10.7 with my Mac Pro Dual Core or have I just hit my ceiling on 10.6.8 update ?
Mac Pros are not PowerMacs. In 2006, Apple changed all its cheesegrater enclosure Macs to have the Xeon chip installed, and changed the name to Mac Pro at that that time from PowerMac G5. That said, all Mac Pros can upgrade to a minimum of 10.7.5. Only the earliest ones can't upgrade to 10.8 and above. 10.7 and later do not have Rosetta, the ability to run PowerPC (pre-2006) applications natively. For other pitfalls, read this tip.
