How do I set up Express box as addition to existing WIFI router?

Used to be able to do this when setting up the Express box, as I did years ago at home. But there's no option in the install process to enable this - which renders the product pretty useless.
Any ideas?

Hi Bob
thanks for getting responding to my request.
When I originally set up Airport express network at home, the set up software gave a couple of options, to either be a stand alone wifi node, or be added to existing router - not necessariy an Apple one - I have a Netgear router at home. This was a decade or so ago.
We recently bought Airport Express box for the office as we want to stream music to it and the set uo software has changed in that it insists the Airport Express box is connected to a router with a cable - which defeats the point of a WIFI product.
So - my question was how to do this as it is insane that a wifi box cannot connect via wifi to a wifi router.
However we found a solution by using the Apple Remote app to set up the Airport Express box so that it has been added to the Netgear router we have in the office.
So - it turns out you can connect an Apple Airport express box wirelessly to a non Apple wireless router, but not with Apple Airport assistant utility - you have to use Remote on an iPhone.
This isn't how I'd configure the products, but hey, what do I know?
Cheers

Let me see if I can help you with the basic WDS configuration steps:
Note: To help facilitate the setup, temporarily connect the AXn directly to the AEBS LAN port using an Ethernet cable. Once the setup is complete, you can move the AXn to the desired location. For all configuration steps you will be using the AirPort Utility. Before starting, be sure to jot down the AppleIDs for both base stations.
802.11g AirPort Extreme Base Station (AEBS) Configuration
AirPort Utility > Select the AEBS > Manual Setup > Wireless tab
Wireless Mode: Participate in a WDS network
    Manual Setup > WDS tab
    WDS Mode: WDS main
    Allow wireless clients (checked)
WDS Remotes: <enter the AppleID for the AXn here>
Click on Update and allow the base station to restart.
802.11n AirPort Express Base Station (AXn) Configuration
AirPort Utility > Select the AXn > Manual Setup > Wireless tab
Wireless Mode: Participate in a WDS network (Note: You may have to hold down the Option (Mac) or Control (PC) key to see this option in the list.)
    Manual Setup > WDS tab
    WDS Mode: WDS remote
    Allow wireless clients (checked)
WDS Main: <enter the AppleID for the AEBS here>

How can I set up find my iPhone so that my wife can find it from her phone

Find my iPhone is tied to the iCloud account set up on the device.  If you set up your iCloud account on your device, the only way for her to track it on her phone would be to use the free Find My iPhone app and login with your AppleID and password.

  • Any speed difference between Apple Wifi Router(air express) and Tp link(or others) wifi router)

Any speed difference between Apple Wifi Router(air express) and Tp link(or others) wifi router?
I'm using a tp link router and sometimes it takes a long time delay for my 2 mac computers to connect each other. I don't know this is because of the router compability or the computers.

    Anyone knows?

  • If I have a normal printer plus an airport express device, do I need a wifi router as well?

If I have a normal printer plus an airport express device, do I need a wifi router as well?

  • HT1218 how do I set my printer to print remotely or through wifi?

How do I set up the computer to print on my printer through wifi?

Ok, I am assuming that you have already configured the HP printer to connect to the wireless network provided by your wireless router. Also that you have installed the latest printer drivers from HP for this printer on your iMac. Finally, I am also assuming that you have properly configured your iMac (using System Preferences > Print & Scan) and that this specific printer is recognized by your iMac. If all of these are true, then printing from your iMac should work.
Note that the steps for the Windows PC will be different, but basically the same.
Since this is an issue for multiple network clients I do not believe the issue will be router related, but printer driver, or printer configuration.

  • How do i set up a separate itunes library for my wife so her synch doesn't pick up my library

I want to set up a separate library so that my wife's ipod doesn't try to synch with my existing library. Can it be done or is it possible to install two versions of itunes on the same PC?

    hi gray001,
to have separated Libraries from iTunes for your wife and you, i would recommend that you create a new second windows user account
thats the easiest way to avoid mix up of itunes content
if you create a second windows user account - itunes is already installed and only needs to be configured for your wife

  • How to create extend network through existing wifi router-Belkin N150

    Dear sir,
I like to inform you that customer are using belkin N150 wifi router in his room( For wifi) but he want to extend his network with the help of airport express through existing network (wifi). Is it possible to extend network by the airport express? Please give the suggestion or step to configure the airport express through existing WIFI network.
I am waiting for your reply as earliest.
    Thanks,
    Dipankar Das

.Is it possible to extend network by the airport express?
Yes, if the AirPort Expess will connect to the Belkin router using a permanent wired Ethernet cable connection.
No, if you want the AirPort Express to connect to the Belkin router using wireless.
If you want to extend using wireless, then use another Belkin product, which will be compatible with your Belkin router.

  • TS1398 In "Set Up" I try to select our secured WIFi router from the list of available networks.  However, it will not allow me to select it. This then prevents me from going to the next step. What do I do?

In "Set Up" I have tried to select our secured WiFi router from the available list shown.  It is listed.  However, when I try to select it, it will not check off or remain blue when I lift my touch.  This then will not allow me to go on to the next step.  What do I do to connect to a secure WiFi router? I do know the WEP Key number but there is no place to type then in.

The trial can only be loaded 1 time as far as I know. You could try http://labs.adobe.com/downloads/acrobatcleaner.html, remove any left over parts of the Acrobat folder, and reboot. Then try an install again, but my guess is you will have to purchase Acrobat at this point.

  • Activate AirPort Express via D-Link DI-634M WiFi router to iMac Leopard

I installed an AirPort Express last year via Windows and a "g" WiFi router. Worked, but sporadically. Upgraded to MiMo router (using WPA-PSK) for better range and security, but AirPort Express stopped working.
This month, converted from Windows to iMac (OS-X 10.0) and trying to get AirPort Express working, but Setup Guide is useless, and my system doesn't "see" the AirPort.
Any help will be much appreciated.

Yes. You can directly connect an 802.11n AirPort Express Base Station (AXn) using an Ethernet cable. The AXn would then just need to be configured as a bridge to allow the D-Link to continue to provide both NAT & DHCP services for all network clients connected to either router.
In this configuration, the AXn would broadcast a wireless network for your wireless network clients to connect to.

  • I can't use my Airport Express to extend a non-Apple wifi router's signal?

I just bought an Airport Express at the Apple Store, and the genius I asked there told me I could use my Express to extend any wifi router's signal, even if it isn't an Apple product.
We currently have a weak wifi signal upstairs in our home, and I'm hoping to improve the signal.

the genius I asked there told me I could use my Express to extend any wifi router's signal, even if it isn't an Apple product
Unfortunately, the "genius" is wrong if you are trying to "extend" using wireless only.
As far as we know and have tested with many different products from other manufacturers....the Express will only "extend" another Apple router.....an AirPort Extreme, Time Capsule, or another AirPort Express.
Another way of saying the same thing is that it is likely not possible to extend a wireless network...using wireless only...unless you have two Apple routers.

  • How do I set Airport Express to work as repeater?

How do I get my Airport Express to work as a repeater for my Apple TV, iPhones and iPad? I use a Mac Pro and a Netgear N300 Wireless N Router. The N300 sees the Airport fine and I can play music to the Airport from iTunes, but none of the other advertised features appear obvious.
All of my other Apple products sync to the N300 Router without issue and apart from some minor setting up to get it working with Apple TV, the N300 presents no compatibilty issues whatsoever.
When I purchased the Airport Express, I truly beleived that the Airport Utility Software, would allow me to choose whether I want to use it for Audio or USB or Repeating / Extending my network, by simply selecting the mode I required, when I required it. After all, isn't that the beauty of Mac computers?
Alas, there is no such drop down menu or button I can press in Airport Utilty to make such a straight forward selection. Instead, from what I can see so far in Airport Utility and various forums, there is a very long and painful process that must be carried out to use the Airport to extend my WIFI network.
I refuse to believe that it can be this hard and assume that that there is some really obvious setting I can change to make this work. It certainly wouldn't surprise me if Apple left this out of the manual, as Apple are legendary for not telling you how connect to 3rd party products, as I found with Apple TV.
As I said, I have read a million threads on this topic and all I have found so far are wanna be geeks, getting lost up there own a**es with lots of technical rubbish that has nothing to do with the problem.
If there is anyone there who actually knows what they are talking about and can explain this without Pythageros Theorem, I would be most grateful.

The AirPort Express can "Join" virtually any wireless network to provide AirTunes and remote printing capability.
But, the "Extend a wireless network" function of the Express appears to be a proprietary feature that will only work with other Apple wireless routers.
As far as we know, this feature is not compatible with routers from any other manufacturers, so there is virtually no chance that it will work with the Netgear N300 router.

Well, you can try either the guided setup or the Manual Setup method to configure the Express to "Extend a wireless network", but you are going to get an error message that the "network cannot be extended".
If you have the time and wish to prove this to yourself.....
Open AirPort Utility - Click Manual Setup
Click the Base Station tab below the icons to name the Express, setup a device password and adjust Time Zone settings
Click the Wireless tab and adjust as follows:
Wireless Mode = Extend a wireless network
Wireless Network Name = The name of the Netgear network that you wish to extend
Enter a check mark next to "Allow wireless clients" if not already checked
Wireless Security = Wireless security setting of the Netgear network
Wireless Password = Enter the password of the Netgear network
    Confirm Password
Click Update and wait for the error message

  • How do I set Airport Express up to be a wireless USB server??

I was reading on CNET that this was possible with the express and I had been trying to do this with my Airport extreme without any success, im pretty sure the extreme doesnt do it.
    Thanks guys

I wanted to set my airport up to print from work to my home 20 miles away.... my original workaround was going out and purchase a "wireless usb print server". I then ran across info on CNET that states the Express is a wireless USB print server.
    Am I missing something?
