How do I set up iMessage?

When I try to sign in to use iMessage I type in my Apple ID and press sign in. Then it takes a while to load and brings up a notification that says, " iMessage Activation could not sign in please check your network connection and try again." I have tried many times and my network connection is fine, please help.

    HI,
    Quote.
    HI Ralph,
I'm having a hard time finding solution for iMessage.
I can't send to one specific contact - we both use 4s iOS 6.1.3 and so is he.
We cant send to each other. We tried to on/off sign in And sign out Apple ID on both phone and still doesn't work
We even reset and erase content on his iPhone.
    We use different Apple ID.
Looking forward to your reply, thanks in advance!
I have added some punctuation and spread out the text to see if I have understood what you were saying.
The Original Post  was about iMessages from the Mac Messages app.
Now we are talking about  two people with  an iPhone each.
You seem to be centered on something being amiss with his set up as you have Reset and Erased his iPhone  (no info on any restore from any backup).
Can he/could he contact with anyone else before you reset his iPhone ?
Can he contact anyone else now ?
If this person cannot contacts anyone from his iPhone it would seem he has not set up the iPhone correctly.
This may be a simple thing such as not having a Data Contract and therefore having Data Off and not be connected to a Wifi Network either.
It may be more involved such as there being an issue with his Apple ID.
If he removes the Apple ID  can he Send from the iPhone Number ?

Use the same ID in Settings > Messages > Send & Receive on both devices and have people use that ID. Your iPhone number would be a good choice.

If you also want seperate Contacts and some other things:
Create a NEW account/ID for her using these instructions. Make sure you follow the instructions. Many do not and if you do not you will not get the None option. You must use an email address that you have not used with Apple before. Make sure you specify a birthdate that results in being at least 13 years old

  • How do I set up iMessage so I can send messages from my iPad to my iPhone using the same apple id

I am trying to set up iMessage so I can send and receive messages on my iphone 5 and my iPad using the same apple id.

I assume that you want to keep the same Apple ID on both devices for downloads and purchases but you just want to know how you can use Messages on both devices without creating a new Apple ID.
On one of the two devices ....Settings>Messages>Send and Receive at>You can be reached by iMessage at>add another email address ... and enter another working email address. After you enter the email address and it is verified by Apple, go to the InBox of that email account, read the email from Apple and follow the instructions to complete the verification. Then go back to the settings and remove your Apple ID email address. You will now use that new email address at the contact at email address for messages on that device.
You can keep your Apple ID email address and use that one on the other device.

How do I check my iMessage account setup?

    HI,
    Any Apple ID.
Open Messages on the Mac and Add the Apple ID to the iMessages Set up.
Add the Same ID to any iOS device in Setting > Messages.
If one of these is a Phone you will then get Pop ups on the other devices saying that the iPhone is using the iPhone Number AND the Apple ID  (Accept the Pop ups to use this info on the other devices including the Mac Version).
The Mac version can also join the AIM service the Jabber network and the Yahoo Service, depending on the Screen names and Other IDs you have.

If your iPhone and iPad are both running iOS 6, and your iPhone successfully registered it's phone number in Settings>Messages>Send & Receive, all you should have to do on your iPad is go to Settings>Messages>Send & Receive and sign in with the same Apple ID you are using on your phone.
If it is, and it still isn't working, try going to Settings>Messages>Send & Receive, tap the ID, sign out, then sign back in.

  • How do I set up iMessage on my different devices to keep the message history synchrony? Pls HELP!

    Task
I'm using an iPhone 4, iPad Wifi (both iOS 5.0.1) and Macbook Pro (OSX 10.7.3) and I'd like to the same message history on all devices.
    What I've done
On the iPhone 4 the set is something more complicated (for me).
As can be found under "Settings" -> "Messages" -> "Receive at" ->
"You can be reached for messages at:"
    Phone +49 xxxxxxxxxx
    Email  xxxxxxxxxxxxxx
Both are apparently used as equivalent to receiving address. That's ok!
BUT in the same screen as "Caller ID" must be made a decision between mobile phone number and Email.
Till now I used iMessage just on my iPhone 4 and "Caller ID" was set to phone number. But on iPad I just can chosse the Email and the the screen doesn't show any message. Now I was told that "Caller ID" is supposed to be the same on all devices. So I set up all devices with my Email as "Caller ID".
    Problem
If I select - as before - the phone number then the exchange is working wonderfully with third parties, but the message history isn't shown on the iPad an Macbook Pro.
When I choose Email as "Caller ID", then the message history is shown on all three devices, BUT the recipient receives the messages from my Email and not associated with the phone number.
In addition, I couldn't deposit the alias addresses of my Apple ID to "You can be reached for messages at:". Since I've given these addresses different receivers - business / private, it is disadvantageous.
Or is it recognized as the alias address that matches the actual Apple ID main Email address?
This leads to the following confusions
              •          Recipients who did not save my Email don't reply because they can't assign it.
              •          Recipients who have previously received iMessages via iPhone with my phone number as "CallerID" will now receive a new message history.
    Questions
    Is there a possibility that
              •          no new message history will start over?
              •          always keep the phone number, which is verified in iCloud is displayed as the sender ID on all devices?
              •          ensuring that alias addresses of my iCloud account are assigned to my Apple ID?

If your iPhone and iPad are both running iOS 6, and your iPhone successfully registered it's phone number in Settings>Messages>Send & Receive, all you should have to do on your iPad is go to Settings>Messages>Send & Receive and sign in with the same Apple ID you are using on your phone.
If it is, and it still isn't working, try going to Settings>Messages>Send & Receive, tap the ID, sign out, then sign back in.

  • How can I set up imessage with a different email

I  needed to change my email and Apple ID. Now my daughter's imessaging won't work b/c it  it was associated with my old account.

It sounds like you're trying to set your daughter her own account? Create one at https://appleid.apple.com/ and set it up on her iPad Mini. Now - if you want to transfer over the email address she was using on your account, to her new one, so her friends can still get in touch/don't need to learn a new email...
Disassociate the email from your old account...
Log into your old apple id https://appleid.apple.com/
Then, under alternate email addresses, remove the one she uses.
    Associate with the new account...
Log in to her account https://appleid.apple.com/
Press +email address and enter it
After verifying it, go to the iMessage settings on the iPad (settings > iMessage)
Then, make sure you tick the new email address to receive messages, and ensure that 'start new conversations from' matches the new address.
All being well, your daughter shouldn't notice a difference. This also future proofs it, she won't be forever tied to your Apple ID when she leaves home etc...
However, now she's on a new account - you won't be able to share purchases - I don't know if you want to? If so.... you can setup Family Sharing! It's super easy and means you can access each others content. Enjoy!

  • How do i set up iMessage to view pictures in my messages?

I can't see any images in my iMessage messages. What do I need to do to fix this?

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a test, not a solution. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
    Step 1
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is localized to your user account.
Enable guest logins* and log in as Guest. Don't use the Safari-only “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac.”
While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your documents or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this behavior; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin.
Test while logged in as Guest. Same problem?
After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it.
*Note: If you’ve activated “Find My Mac” or FileVault, then you can’t enable the Guest account. The “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac” is not the same. Create a new account in which to test, and delete it, including its home folder, after testing.
    Step 2
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, by a font conflict, or by corruption of the file system or of certain system caches.
Please take this step regardless of the results of Step 1.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards, if applicable. Start up in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. You must hold down the shift key twice: once when you turn on the computer, and again when you log in.
Note: If FileVault is enabled in OS X 10.9 or earlier, or if a firmware password is set, or if the startup volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to start up and run than normal, with limited graphics performance, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal startup may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, restart as usual (not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of Steps 1 and 2.
