How do i set up my airport extreme to access from my work windows based PC
How do I set up my airport extreme to access from my work windows based pc?
To mount the AirPort Disk in Windows 7 or Vista:
Open the Network browser by double-clicking Network on the Windows Desktop.
The AirPort Extreme base station name should appear in the browswer.
Double-click the name and you should get a login prompt.
Now depending on how you set up disk access:
In the Name field, either enter the user account name or for base station/disk access, leave this field blank.
In the Password field, enter the base station, disk, or user account password.
Select the volume(s) you want to mount, and then, click OK.

how can I set up the airport extreme base station with windows computer
Hi - you need Airport Utility version 5.6.1 for Windows 7 - go to http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1547 to download it to your computer - the setup depends on what kind of modem you have and if you have another router connected - post back with this info to proceed - thanks

II'm trying to set up my AirPort Extreme in the field without an Internet connection so that devises can communicate wirelessly but there aren't any IP addresses being generated
Just run the AE in router mode.. if you have difficult with the setup do it completely manually..
This is how I do it.
Airtport Utility can't find Airport Time Capsule on either of my 2009 Macs
As long as the AE is running in DHCP and NAT mode it will produce IP addresses.. however you cannot turn off WAN.
You could give it a static IP .. so set to static instead of dhcp if you like.. eg.
DNS and WAN errors.. double NAT, Ethernet unplugged, etc.. so it makes no real difference..
The AE will function fine as router (Wireless AP) to your network however..
Just ignore all the errors. -
I am trying to set up an Airport Extreme as my router, and I am currently using an AT&T modem/router combo. I am wondering what would be the easiest way to do this. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!
Connect an Ethernet cable from one of the LAN <-> ports on the ATT modem/router to the WAN "O" port on the AirPort Extreme. This cable must remain in place permanently.
Open Macintosh HD > Applications > Utilities > AirPort Utility on your Mac
Click on Other WiFi Devices
Click on AirPort Extreme xxxxx
The utility will take a moment to analyze the connection, then a screen similar to this will appear with your AirPort Extreme instead of an AirPort Express
Type in a short simple name that you want to use for the wireless network
Type in a device name for the AirPort Extreme
Enter a password that will be used for both the AirPort Extreme and wireless network
Verify the password
Click Next
The utility will setup everything for you. When the message of Setup Complete appears, click Done and close AirPort Utility.

How do I set up an Airport Extreme as a router?
I need to make sure my Airport Extreme is set up as a router and NOT a bridge. I cannot find anything about this on Apple's manuals, the forums nor the interwebs in general. Has someone done this before?
Currently I have the Airport Extreme working as a WiFi seemelessly. I have two devices connected to the Airport Extreme via ethernet ports but only one is communicating. The other (a solar microconverter) is not communicating with the router. Cables work, I have unplugged and replugged everything, YES, everthing! Both devices have little green lights lit up next to the port they are plugged into.
Can anyone out there just tell me how I can either make sure it is set up as a router or how to change the Airport Extreme to work as a router.
I'm pretty desperate at this point.
TIAIn AirPort Utility 5.6:
In AirPort Utility 6 click on your device.
The device shouldn't be in bridge mode if you want it to act as a router. -
How do I set up my Airport Extreme to create a LAN without being connected to the internet?
I'm trying to set up a POS(point of sale) for my small restaurant. ADSL internet is not available at the site. I have set up my system(finally)while hooked up to my router at home, however my system will not work when disconnected from my router. How can I configure the Airport to operate my printers without an internet connection?
First off- Thanks for taking the time to answer me.
I have 2 Star Micronic Ethernet connection printers that I hope to operate using a POS software interface called Ambur.
The program is pretty straight forward and while my Airport Extreme was WAN ethernet connected to my D-Link Router, I had the program and printers integrated and operating surprisingly easily.
My issue is that I don't have internet available at the restaurant, so I need to create a network without an internet connection.
I did the hard reset and the rest.
Now I have the same configuration, but not connected through the router, trying to acheive the same result, but its not connecting.
I've tried programming the software with every IP address, including the ones that worked while connected to the other router, to no avail. -
I have an Airport Extreme Base station (purchased in 2009) and an Airport Express base station (purchased in 2011 - the model that plugs directly into the electrical outlet) (both version 7.6.1 according to the Airport Utility info). I want to use the Airport Express to extend my wireless network. Using Airport utility setup I have a software option on the Airport Express to set it up to extend the network but I do not have an option on the Airport Extreme wireless setup screen that I can check to allow my wireless network to be extended.
All of the documentation I can find on Apple Support states that I should have an option I can check to allow the wireless network to be extended while in the wireles setup section for the Airport Extreme in Airport Utility; but, that check option isn't there. Is this a case of my Airport Extreme base station being too old to offer that option? Incidentally, when I try to select the extend wireless network option on the Airport Express from the Airport Utility wireless setup menu I get an error message (no details - just an error message). The same Airport Express sets up fine if I select join a network (not what I want to do). Am I just dealing with outdated equipment or does anyone have a suggestion? Thanks.Close AirPort Utility if it is open.
Temporarily, move the Express to the same general area as your AirPort Extreme and power it up and wait a minute.
Hold in the reset button on the Express for 9-10 seconds and then release. Give the Express a full minute to restart to a slow, blinking amber light.
Click the AirPort icon at the top of the Mac's screen and wait a few seconds for a listing of New AirPort Base Station to appear
Click on AirPort Express just below that and AirPort Utility will automatically open
Wait a minute while AirPort Utility analyzes the network and announces that the Express will be configured to "Extend" the AirPort Extreme network.
Enter a device name for the AirPort Express and click Next
Wait another minute to allow the configuration to occur.
When you see the Setup Complete message, click Done.
Now move the Express to a location that is approximately half the distance from the AirPort Extreme and the general area that needs more wireless coverage
Power up the Express and you are all set. Trash those old instructions. -
The Airport Extreme is a 4th Gen unit. I just want to keep the TC wireless name to go further through my house.
The Ethernet connection will be from one of the LAN <-> ports on the TC to the WAN port (circle of dots icon) on the AirPort Extreme.
Then you can use AirPort Utility - Manual Setup to configure the AirPort Extreme as follows:
Click the Wireless tab located just below the row of icons
Wireless Mode = Create a wireless network (Not "extend a wireless network" as many users incorrectly think)
Wireless Network Name = Same name as your TC network
No check mark needed next to "Allow this network to be extended"
Radio Mode = Automatic
Channel = Automatic
Wireless Security = Same setting as the TC network
Wireless Password = Same setting as the TC network
Confirm Password
Click the Internet icon
Click the Internet Connection tab
Connect Using = Ethernet
Connection Sharing = Off (Bridge Mode)
Update to save settings and restart the entire network
Computers on the TC network will now be able to move to the area where the AirPort Extreme is located and not have to "switch" networks. This is known as a "roaming" network. -
How can I set a second Airport Extreme to not allow wireless clients?
I have two Airport Extremes. One is the main, and one is a remote unit used to extend my wireless network. I only want the remote Extreme to be able to use the LAN ports via ethernet to provide connectivity to my home theater gear. I don't want it to allow wireless clients, even though the two Extremes are wirelessly linked. Is this possible? I know it is on the Express, and I'd like to do that here. Thanks.
A simple solution might be.......
Use AirPort Utility 5.6 or earlier and click the Manual Setup option on the extending Extreme.
Click the Wireless tab below the row of icons
Wireless Mode should be set to "Extend a wireless network"
Remove the check mark next to "Allow wireless clients" -
How do you set up an Airport Extreme to extend the range of a Verizon router?
Basically I want to know if the new Airport Extreme can be used fro extend the range of a Verizon modem/router?
Not by wireless. The apple routers can act as repeaters only to another apple router.
You can use ethernet or homeplug (EOP adapter) to place the Airport in another location where you need wireless and set it up in bridge mode.
Or you can buy another airport.. a cheap second hand extreme is very possible.. plug that into the Verizon by ethernet and extend with the second apple wireless.. but nope.. you cannot do it directly. -
How do I set up an Airport Extreme Base Station ("Snow") for use as fax (on
I'm on a PowerMac G4 Digital Audio version without a built-in modem. I already have a Linksys wireless network set up between my Mac and PC laptop. So... I don't want to use the wireless networking on the Airport...
I just want to configure the Airport Base Station to use the built in 56K modem so that I can fax directly off the Mac. I did that on my old computer that had a built in modem, but I need to know how to configure this G4 and Base Station modem to perform this task.
Please help me connect the right wires (does the G4 connect to the base station with USB?). Then the power cord, and an RJ11 line from the phone to the airport base...
And what software (the used airport I bought doesn't have a software disc).
Thanks for any help!Saxparilla, Welcome to the discussion area!
Sorry but the modem inside the AirPort base station (ABS) has NO ability to FAX at all. -

How do I make my new Airport Extreme a base station?
I have been using an Airport Extreme (5th generation) as my base station router for a few years. I set the main network for my and my wife's use and created a guest network for when my sons visited and needed to use the wi-fi connection. I used passwords for both networks. Today I purchased a new 802.11 ac Airport Extreme. I unplugged the 5h gen. Extreme and plugged in the new Extreme. After a short hunt, my new 27" (late 2013) iMac found the new Extreme and had me set up a name and a password for it using Airport Utility. I was expecting it to ask if I wanted to set up a guest network, but it did not. I was expecting it to ask since I believe that is what happened when I installed my 5th gen Extreme a few years ago. For the 5th gen Extreme, I had to enter a password to protect settings on the Extreme, a WPA2 password for my main network and another password for my guest network. It took about 10 minutes to set up. For this new Airport Extreme I entered just one password. It took about 2 to 3 minutes for the entire setup. When I checked the menu in the Airport Utility under "Base Station", all lines are grayed out. Under the File Menu in Airport Utility, "Configure Other" is available, but "Import Configuration file" and "Export Configuration file" are also grayed out. I checked Network Settings in System Preferences and I see my new network name in the Wi-Fi menu and under the "Advanced..." button, I see the old and new Networks listed in the "Preferred networks" box.
So, how do I get the new Airport Extreme to act as the Base station and be able to enter a guest network? Does it require me to delete the old Network name from the Advanced... button page in System Preferences > Network Settings? Will I just have to start all over with the new Extreme to make it a base station?Hello Leo,
I'm not at home so can't confirm but I can only assume that maybe some of the "old" settings in airport utility have changed, and simplified. Hence why you probably only need one password.
When I bought the new "tower" like AirPort Extreme, I just plugged it into the Ethernet, powered it on with the previous generation Extreme in place and in Airport Utility it just asked me if I wanted to copy the settings to the newer device, which included a few "port forwarding" settings. All done in this sequence. I didn't have guest network set up but you can still set up guest network under wireless in Airport Utility, hope this helps! -
Hi All. Need your help figuring this out. The location of the cable line in my home causes a bit of an issue for my internet dependant electronics. My computers have no problem connecting over Wifi but certain peripherals require an ethernet connection as Wifi is not an option for them. I have prepared this quick diagram to explain my perfect set up. I have a current gen Airport Extreme and a Previous gen as well. How can I set my 2nd Airport to receive the Wifi from my main airport, but then only serve as a router, not extend the WIRELESS network. Only provide a hardwired network. In other words, I know how to "extend network" with airport utility, but then the 2nd airport also casts its own wifi network and causes problems. I only want the one single Wifi network. The 2nd router should only be providing ethernet connectivity.
Is this even possible? Both Airports are running the most updated firmware. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!!!With a properly configured extended network both AirPorts will be broadcasting the "same" Wi-Fi network. This shouldn't impact wired clients at all. The other advantage of using an extended network is that your older AirPort Extreme's Ethernet ports will be enabled for wired clients.
At present the only other option would be to connect the older Extreme to the newer one using an Ethernet connection between them. Then disable the older Extreme's Wi-Fi radios.
