How do I set up my time capsule to multiple computer?

There are two macs in my household and one time capsule which is right now set up only to my computer. How can I set it up for the other computer keeping the privacy for both? Thanks

Do you mean you want to back up two Macs to the TC via Time Machine?  If so, Time Machine  makes a separate sparse bundle disk image for each Mac's backups on the TC, so they're kept entirely separate.
Normally, when you Enter Time Machine, you see only the backups for the Mac you're on.

Are you using a v6 uitlity.. because it is a toy.. ??
Get v5 utility and then you can hold down the option key and select the right mode.
If you have lion, just install it.. For ML follow this.
How to load 5.6 into ML.
    1. Download 5.6 for Lion.

Click to open the dmg but do not attempt to install the pkg.. it won't work anyway.
    2. Download and install unpkg.

Run unpkg on the desktop.. it is very simple.. drag the AirPortUtility56.pkg file over to unpkg.. and it will create a new directory of the same name on the desktop.. drill down.. applications utilities .. there lo and behold is Airport utility 5.6 .. drag it to your main utilities directory or just run it from current location.
You cannot uninstall 6.1 so don't try.. and you cannot or should not run them both at the same time.. so just ignore the toyland version.. the plastic hammer.. and start using 5.6.. a real tool.

I would prefer to answer in your post. as I have tried on two occasions to help.. so far this is the first time I can see you stated  you are using Lion.
    1. Did you download and install the 5.6 utility..?
I said to do it.. you never said yes.. I did that.
Please do it. .. you will get no place before you do.
    2. Did you bridge the TC.. ?
If so it will work perfectly.. please post a screen shot of the summary page from the 5.6 utility. If something is wrong I can work it out from there.
    3. Or ring apple support and get them to walk you through the setup.. there should be phone support for the first week or two.

  • How do I set up my Time Capsule as backup HD only.

How do I set up my Time Capsule to act as back up external Hard Drive only?  When I connect to my current network it slows down transfers between my 3 HD Tivos set up on my network to a crawl!  I don't want it connected to my network!

    Bridge the TC.
First of all download and use the real utility if you haven't already. http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1482
Open utility.. go to manual setup..
In the TC setup go to internet tab..
Down the page find connection sharing.
    Select off bridge mode.
    Update the TC.
The TC now is a client in the network and will act as a HDD.
Wireless is up to you.. but it should not slow the connection. Certainly you can turn it off completely.

  • I changed my ISP, how I can Setting up my Time Capsule ?

Recently, I changed my ISP, how I can Setting up my Time Capsule again?

Hello. I jus tbought mine and will be setting up shortly. So I am only guessing here, based on how my airport extreme base station acted when I switched once. When you connect the ethernet to it, it should simply find the signal,a nd prompt you for the password information that you set up with the new ISP.
If not, please report back how it goes..

  • HT1175 how do you set the airport time capsule as the primary base station rather than as a network client?

how do you set the airport time capsule as the primary base station rather than as a network client?

The Time Capsule needs to connect to a simple modem......not a modem/router or gateway type of device that is often furnished by Internet Service Providers.
So, the first logical question here would be......
What is the make and model number of the device that you call your "modem"?

  • How do i set up my time capsule wifi for many users

    hello ..
    i have problem.. as always
my time capsule is connected to dsl modem (off(bridge mode)), in modem we can get only 10 ip adresses and no more. so when there are 10 pc connected to our wifi, no more can connect.... how can i set up my time capsule, so more people can join our wifi...? is it even possible?
    P.S.
    1) to our wifi is connected printer, so everybody can print...
    2) every pc uses time capsule as bacup place in time machine.
    tnx

You often see this limit of 10 clients in wireless hotspots but I have yet to see it in an adsl modem.. most strange way to pay for a service that is really irrelevant how many clients you use.
Have a go .. I recently setup a TC to help a guy run his Roku.. and this setup worked well.. I have no idea if it can work in your case.
Lets say the IP you get is 192.168.2.1-10 .. doesn't matter what it really is. And the adsl modem is 192.168.2.254
(Assuming they are private addresses.. if they are public IP you can just use the DHCP and NAT. )
But go to the airport utility.. I think you need to run v5 at least to change DNS.. but you can do the same thing in v6 using static but no dns changes.
Now you set the IP of the TC manually.. This address might need to be in the dhcp range of the modem to work. You can set the DNS to same IP as the router address.. ie home address of the modem. Or you can use another DNS.. whatever you like.
Then set DHCP for clients that will join.. this can then expand the scope of addresses..
It worked without a NAT error.. although I am not sure exactly how.. on paper it should not be able to work but did.. have a go.. otherwise there is perhaps another way.. but it is complicated.
Give us an example from a computer plugged into the modem of what IP .. subnet mask .. Gateway and DNS you get. Then I can fine tune the values for it.

  • How can I set up my time capsule as the primary base station with a centurylink router? I'm trying to extend my coverage, increase signal strength, and be able to connect a printer.

I recently moved and now I'm trying to set up my Time Capsule as the primary base station or router with an existing network that has a Centurylink modem/router. The TC still has the settings for my old network. I also have backups on it. I have the data backed up to another HD so it's not an issue to return it to factory settings if doing so deletes the back ups. Do I need to restore it to the factory settings to set it up? Also, what settings would I select on the TC (and the Centurylink modem/router) in order for the TC to serve as the router, instead of the Centurylink router? I want to be able to use the TC to back up my Mac's, print wirelessly, and improve overall performance. I tried setting the TC up and ended with 2 different networks. Can anyone please help me with this?

The TC has to plug into the existing modem router by ethernet.. you cannot use wireless.
You have a choice of which is router.. only if Centurylink agree to bridge their modem router.. this has to be done by the ISP and often they do not allow it.
Is your broadband cable or adsl or fibre or ???
If it is cable and you are allowed to purchase your own cable modem pick a pure modem version with no router in it.. plug the TC into it by ethernet.
Setup the TC in DHCP and NAT mode.. (depending on broadband type).
You must reset the TC to factory to do the setup.. no files are lost at all.
Here is my current recommended setup.. with Yosemite life has become harder than ever.
    Factory reset universal
Power off the TC.. ie pull the power cord or power off at the wall.. wait 10sec.. hold in the reset button.. be gentle.. power on again still holding in reset.. and keep holding it in for another 10sec. You may need some help as it is hard to both hold in reset and apply power. It will show success by rapidly blinking the front led. Release the reset.. and wait a couple of min for the TC to reset and come back with factory settings. If the front LED doesn’t blink rapidly you missed it and simply try again. The reset is fairly fragile in these.. press it so you feel it just click and no more.. I have seen people bend the lever or even break it. I use a toothpick as tool.
N.B. None of your files on the hard disk of the TC are deleted.. this simply clears out the router settings of the TC.
    Setup the TC again.
ie Start from a factory reset. No files are lost on the hard disk doing this.
Then redo the setup from the computer with Yosemite.
    1. Use very short names.. NOT APPLE RECOMMENDED names. No spaces and pure alphanumerics.
eg TCgen5 and TCwifi for basestation and wireless respectively.
Even better if the issue is more wireless use TC24ghz and TC5ghz with fixed channels as this also seems to help stop the nonsense. But this can be tried in the second round.
    2. Use all passwords that also comply but can be a bit longer. ie 8-20 characters mixed case and numbers.. no non-alphanumerics.
    3. Ensure the TC always takes the same IP address.. you will need to do this on the main router using dhcp reservation.. or a bit more complex setup using static IP in the TC. But this is important.. having IP drift all over the place when Yosemite cannot remember its own name for 5 min after a reboot makes for poor networking. If the TC is main router it will not be an issue.
    4. Check your share name on the computer is not changing.. make sure it also complies with the above.. short no spaces and pure alphanumeric.. but this change will mess up your TM backup.. so be prepared to do a new full backup. Sorry.. keep this one for second round if you want to avoid a new backup.
    5. Mount the TC disk in the computer manually.
In Finder, Go, Connect to server from the top menu,
Type in SMB://192.168.0.254 (or whatever the TC ip is which you have now made static. As a router by default it is 10.0.1.1 and I encourage people to stick with that unless you know what you are doing).
You can use name.. SMB://TCgen5.local where you replace TCgen5 with your TC name.. local is the default domain of the TC and doesn't change.
However names are not so easy as IP address.. nor as reliable. At least not in Yosemite they aren't. The domain can also be an issue if you are not plugged or wireless directly to the TC.
    6. Make sure IPv6 is set to link-local only in the computer. For example wireless open the network preferences, wireless and advanced / TCP/IP.. and fix the IPv6. to link-local only.
There is a lot more jiggery pokery you can try but the above is a good start.. if you find it still unreliable.. don't be surprised.
You might need to do some more work on the laptop itself. eg Reset the PRAM.. has helped some people. Clean install of the OS is also helpful if you upgrade installed.
    Tell us how you go.
Someone posted a solution.. See this thread.
Macbook can't find Time Capsule anymore
Start from the bottom and work up.. I have a list of good network practice changes but I have avoided Yosemites bug heaven.
This user has had success and a few others as well.

  • How can I set up a time capsule to extend my wifi network from a non-apple Medialink MWN-WAPR300N?

I just purchased a new Medialink MWN-WAPR300N from Amazon to replace my old 2008 500 GB Time Capsule.
I was wondering if it would be possible to use my old Time Capsule to extend the network from the Medialink router to the rooms in the back of my house. Would this be possible? How about if I use the Time Capsule as the primary point, and use the Medialink router to extend the network?
    Thanks!

The Time Capsule would not be compatible with a Medialink product if you are thinking of trying to use the Time Capsule to extend the Medialink network using wireless only.
The same would be true if the Time Capsule were the primary router, and you tried to use the Medialink product to extend the Time Capsule network wirelessly.
If you can connect the two devices together using a permanent wired Ethernet connection, then you should be able to accomplish your goal.

  • How do I set up my time capsule as wireless external hard drive?

I have a new iMac and and a new 2 TB Time Capsule. I bought the Time Capsule to not only use with time machine but also as a wireless external hard drive. What is the best way to set this up from the beginning? Do I just create a new folder under the data folder in my Time Capsule and then start dragging and dropping files? I want to make sure I have the best setup from the beginning. Thanks

My opinion is that the Time Capsule should really be used as it was designed....for Time Machine backups....not as an "everyday" hard drive.
For one thing, access to files on the Time Capsule drive if you place movies, music, images, etc. on the drive is going to be very slow....and really slow if you plan to connect using wireless. Expect lag, stutters, signal drops, etc.
That brings up another question.....if you move your movies, music, images, etc over to the Time Capsule drive.....how will you back up this data?  Surely, you plan to keep "original" versions on one drive and "copies" on another to be safe, correct?
My suggestion would be to add an external USB or FireWire drive and attach it directly to your Mac. Move your movies, music, etc. to that drive. Access will be very fast to your media this way. Highly recommended.
Then, Time Machine will backup both your Mac and the hard drive.....so you have backups of everything. Make sense?
Although I do not recommend that you move your files over to the Time Capsule drive based on the information that you have provided so far....If you still want to setup the disk image on the Time Capsule drive, follow these basic steps:
Open Macintosh HD > Applications > Utiltiies > Disk Utility
Click New Image at the top of the window
Make sure that the little arrow next to the Save As box is pointing up
Navigate through the Finder like interace to open up the Time Capsule drive
Name the disk image and select the size that you want
    Click Create
Allow a very long time for the image to created.

  • How do i set up my time capsule with actiontec q1000/century link dsl

how do i port forward, etc

The Actiontec Q1000 is a modem/router, so it is the Actiontec that would be the device that would need to be setup for port forwarding....not the Time Capsule.
Please contact your ISP or Actiontec for information on how to set up port forwarding on the Q1000.
The Time Capsule would be in Bridge Mode, meaning that ports are already open, so it will simply pass the settings that it receives from the Actiontec through to connected devices.

How do I set up my airport time capsule using Windows 7 home premium?

If you have the newest AC model TC.. you might be in trouble. Apple specifically state you need v6 airport utility. They do not provide v6 with windows.. only Mac and iOS. If you happen to have iphone, ipad even itouch, you can download and install the airport utility and use that.. you just cannot do the setup from windows.

  • How do I set up my time capsule with my PC and BT home hub

    Hi, I really need help.
I have a new time machine I am having trouble setting up. I have a BT Home Hub that I have hard wired to the TC to the WAN port. I have Connected my PC to the Ethernet port. The PC will not find the TC.
I also need to Wi-Fi attach other laptop PCs to it.
    PLEASE CAN SOMEONE HELP?
    Ade.

You might have an IP collision ..
unplug the wan connection to the home hub..
Restart the Time Capsule with a single ethernet connection to a pc plugged into its LAN port.
Make sure the pc is getting an ip address. Open airport utility and see if you can now access the TC.. !
When you say PC do you mean windows machine?
Windows can have some issues accessing the TC.. especially if you have the windows computer on win7 running homegroup.. which is a wretched piece of incestous connection between win7 exclusively.

  • How can we set up a Time Capsule to run on a Verizon FIOS network that's already set up with its own router?

We have a Time Capsule that we want to use STRICTLY as a backup device and not as a router, which the setup system seems to want to do.  We can't get beyond the option to switch the device to a new network, which we fear will disconnect a vital Internet connection.  Any ideas?

Once you click Update at the end of the configuration process in AirPort Utility, the TC light should turn green in 25-30 seconds.
Close AirPort Utility as soon as you see the message that the settings have been stored to the TC as the TC will "disappear" from the AirPort Utility window.
Once you have a green light on the TC, if you need to access the settings again on the TC, you can do so be temporarily connecting an Ethernet cable from your computer to one of the other LAN ports on the TC. Open AirPort Utility and the TC will appear.
If you don't plan to use the wireless on the TC to provide another network, it would be a good idea to turn it off to help prevent wireless interference issues with the other wireless network.
To do this....open AirPort Utility and click Manual Setup
Click the Wireless tab below the icon
Change the setting for Wireless Mode to "Off"
    Update to save the changes
