How do I set up networking for DNS resolution?

I am setting up a brand new iMac (10.9.4). I've put the two internal DNS servers into the network configuration (Windows Servers running DNS). However pinging by hostname and FQDN doesn't work
Matts-iMac:~ mattgeorge$ ping victor.rafmuseum.local
ping: cannot resolve victor.rafmuseum.local: Unknown host
Interestingly, nslookup is fine:
Matts-iMac:~ mattgeorge$ nslookup victor.rafmuseum.local
Server: 172.16.0.11
Address: 172.16.0.11#53
Name: victor.rafmuseum.local
Address: 172.16.0.15
And pinging the IP address works correctly too. Windows servers appear in the finder and I can connect to them from there but the Connect to Server option again will not resolve a DNS address. Also in researching this I note that Directory Access no longer appears in Applications.

This is the chowder-headed default value that's arises from older Windows Server installations. Microsoft fixed this in more recent versions. Folks that didn't know DNS and that chose to take the default top-level domain from older Windows Server installations were led into a morass, unfortunately.
You're basically going to have to run parallel DNS services until you can reconfigure those Windows Server DNS servers over into a valid top-level domain — when Microsoft specified this default of .local, .local was not a reserved top-level domain — or otherwise limp along here. This because .local is a reserved domain now, as it's used for Bonjour/mDNS.
The usual fix is to move into a real and registered domain, which is obviously a pain now, but only tends to get worse over time.
The usual workaround is to set up parallel DNS services, to add "local" to the list of search domains within network preferences (haven't tried this recently, but it was the old workaround for this case, see Mac OS X v10.4, 10.5, 10.6: How to look up ".local" hostnames via both Bonjour and standard DNS) and then incrementally migrate preferably to a real-and-registered domain over time, and/or to otherwise avoid using the .local domain where that's feasible.
FWIW, rafmuseum.net is currently available for registration, and you can use a subdomain of one you already have — if one of those other existing registrations is associated with your organization — and there are a gazillion other new top-level domains now or coming online to choose from — though you can't have .local here, as that's RFC-reserved for Bonjour/mDNS activity.

On my 2003 AD integrated DNS server...i rightclick forward lookup zone and choose...new zone..primary zone (store zone in AD checkbox checked)..i chose to all DNS servers in the AD domain for replication...zone name sales.domain.com....allow secure updates
option....then i added an A record in that zone...sales.domain.com..pointed that towards my internal 10. IP address...is this correct? It seems to be working correctly for the sales.domain.com DNS record...and i tested the other sub domains...and those look

Restarting the Apple TV by removing ALL the cables for a few moments.
Restoring the Apple TV.
Opening port 123 on the router.

The password (to protected unauthorized access) to your wireless network is set on your wireless router. Typically most routers come with a setup wizard, either that involves running an installation sequence (via CD/DVD) or by connecting to the router via a web-based control panel and configuring the router that way. In addition to setting a password to access the network you'll also want to set a username/password for accessing the router to perform administrative tasks.
You'll want to consult the manufacturer of your router for additional setup assistance, or the manual/quick start guide that came with the product.

Hey Mattye88 not sure if you have seen but actully you can do this, but for some reason you have to use Siri. If you bring up Siri and say "set a reminder ever 4 weeks from next wednesday to check the gas meter" it will set one and it will work just fine, I have reminders to water a Bonsai every three days and it works fine it just shows as custom repeat on the user interface. Alas it seems you can not use Siri to set one for the end of the month though which is why I am in this threed. Still hope it helps you to know how to sort this problem atleast.

I have tried to set numbered lists for headings in Pages 5.2 but have not succeeded. I have read similar questions concerning this but this has not helped me...
When I say numbered lists I mean something extremely important and simple, for instance:
1. Introduction
1.1. Background
1.2. Purpose and Questions
2. The Legality of Clause X
2.1. Legality under Article 101.1
2.2. Legality under Article 101.3
And so on...
Heading 1. is selected as "Heading", 1.1 is selected as "Heading 2", and if I had 1.1.1 it would be selected as "Heading 3" and so on...
I have navigated my way to the Format window, and under the tab "Style" and down to "Bullets & Lists". I have here selected the following: Numbered, Numbers, 1. 2. 3. 4., Tiered Numbers, Continue from previous.
There are several problems with this currently.
First, based on the example it becomes "2. Background" when it should be "1.1 Background" instead.
Second, after writing some body text between the headings and then select a new heading, all the previously selected settings I mentioned above in "Bullets & Lists" have to be reselected.
So, how do I set numbered lists for headings, or so called sub-headings, in Pages 5.2? And how do I keep that selected system of numbered lists saved so I don't have to retype it for every new heading I type? (e.g. so that Pages knows that every time I choose Heading 2, I want it to number the heading in the way selected)
Obviously, manually writing the numbers for every heading is not a viable option, as it makes table of contents problematic and is simply tedious. You need an automatic way of doing it, especially if you write long documents where keeping headings in order is absolutely essential.
Also, reverting back to previous Pages versions (like v. 9 I think?) is not an option as that does not exist on my recently purchased Macbook Pro.
I need to be able to do this on Pages 5.2 and do it automatically.
I appreciate any help with this.

iWork '09 is not "outdated" it still works and works extremely well and whilst not perfect with MsWord it is far far better than Pages 5.2 which has a stream of major issues with exporting. It is also way better and faster to use than Microsoft Office.
So what is your time and work actually worth? If it is less than $19.99 for 6 months, you may as well just chuck it in and take that job on minimum wages.
You are assuming things for Office 2014 with absolutely no inside knowledge. Much as we assumed Pages 5 was going to be the long awaited improvement, but ended up being a downgrade to match the iOS version, Microsoft is headed the same way with their mobile versions.
This is not like getting the "latest" pair of pants where you go with the crowd and throw out your cigarette legs which replaced the flares, which replaced your low cuts which replaced your cigarette legs, which replaced…

If it does the job and does it well, use it. There is nothing out there to really match what Pages '09 does. Yet.
LibreOffice can do most but not all, but has a UI that only a mother could love. It's great redemption is that it uses both open formats and the standard Microsoft formats and is under active development. It also opens and saves to just about everything. When they finally work out the Pages formats, I'm sure they will open those as well.
I use a lot of professional software. Just because the publisher's marketing department says change the product so we can sell more, doesn't mean you have to pay any attention whatsoever. Adobe being a classical example. Most designers are just ignoring their latest subscription based bloatware and getting on with their work.

It is an extension to protect the profile with a password, but being an extension that protection can easily be bypassed by starting Firefox in [[Safe mode]].<br />
So do not rely on it.<br />
If you want to protect content then you have to use methods supported by the OS like a separate user account with a password or an encrypted file system.

First you arrange however you want and then go to table settings which is there in the right corner of the item details and create a variant and save.
Find a button with blue yellow and white at the top end above the vertical drag bar when put the cursor it will show you as Configuration.
After creating the variant tick the check box use as standard setting below the variant

The Firefox [https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Page+Zoom Page Zoom] feature does a domain by domain level of saving the users preferred zoom level settings, there is no default Page Zoom level setting in Firefox, as with some other browsers.

You can't set a password for the Photos nor Mail apps, you can only set a passcode for your iPad as a whole (via Settings > Passcode).
There are third-party photo management apps such as Photo Manager Pro which you can copy your photos into from the Photos app (and then delete them from Photos), that app allows you (via its settings within the app) to set a password to access it.
For email you could access your email via a browser (and not have your password stored in the browser), or see if there are any email apps in your country's app store which have a password option

By "path", I assume you mean "classpath".
The simplest way is simply to include the jars you need inside the web application or web module's WEB-INF/lib directory, EJB module's META-INF/lib directory, or EAR lib directory.
If that's not practical, if you use NodeManager to start your servers, you can go to the "Server Start" tab in the server definition in the WebLogic console and edit the "Classpath" field, which defaults to no value. You can specify a classpath value there. Note that if you specify a value there, it REPLACES the default classpath for the server, it doesn't add to it. If you need to just add to it (a much more likely scenario), if the value references the value "$CLASSPATH" in it, that will reference the original classpath value that the server would have had.
So, for instance, if you wanted to include the MQ jars in the server classpath, you could set a value like this:
/usr/java/mq/lib/mq.jar:/usr/java/mq/lib/mqstuff.jar:$CLASSPATH

Before upgrading to the latest version of iMovie last month, I was able to set the duation of all of the stills included in an iMovie project at one time by clicking the apply to all still box in the adjustment pop up. That option is no longer apparent. If it is available I cannot find it, and I have tried several different ways to accomplish it. I have tried the iMovie help section and can find nothing to help.

Because often people are animating to words or beats in the music. Music is rarely performed with a computer-precise beat and tempo. Musicians aren't robots: they swing the beat sometimes. They use rubato. They change tempo. They change time signatures. As a result, you have to FIND those words and beats. It's not a situation where you can say, "There! I've found the duration of one beat! Now it's easy to find the rest of them!"
If you try it, you will be very disappointed.
Try finding the precise end of a piece of music that fades or ends on a big chord with a ring-out. You'll see that it's trial-and-error: what's the point where it becomes inaudible? It depends on how high your speakers are turned up. You might have them way up, you set an end point for the layer, and then you do a RAM Preview at a more reasonable volume. You might say, "Hey! The music ends before the layer ends!"... but you KNOW you set the layer's out point when the audio file goes silent.
AE has layer markers that can be used on an audio layer to mark beats, words, etc. They come in very handy.
I guess it comes down to this: because AE can do so much different stuff, there are very few automated procedures. Oh, Adobe tries with effects that convert audio levels to keyframes, but they're not 100% reliable... especially on something like a capella choral works. For true accuracy, you need find the timings yourself.
If you want something simpler, try a different application. But be prepared for lower level of accuracy.
