How do I set up the Mail application?

While I am able to recieve email into my Mail app on the iPad, I can not seem to send an email. I get an error:
Cannot Send Mail
No password provided for "SMTP:{here, my email address}
Please go to Mail Account Settings and enter a password
Of course, I would not be posting this if I hadn't thought I'd set up my Mail Account propertly. I provide all the information for the iOS Mail settings as I did for my settings in Outlook. There is a password in the Settings and it is the right one. So I need help in decyphering what the iOS Settings for Mail really wants.

Dropbox, if that is what you are asking about, isn't related to Mail; it's a completely separate program: http://dropbox.com
File attachment size limits aren't a function of Mail either. File size limits are imposed by your email service provider. Sometimes they're 5 MB, sometimes 10 MB. iCloud Mail is 20 MB unless you enable Mail Drop. There are other limitations on its use. See Mailbox size and message sending limits in iCloud - Apple Support.

  • How do I set up the "Mail" App?

I am trying to set up the Mail application on my new Mac 10.5.6 and it is taking forever to load which leads me to believe I will get nowhere. I have already tried the "automatic setup" option with it to get my MobileMe mail onto it and it just sat there acting like it was loading something for about an hour. So I decided to hit "cancel" and go back and manually set it up but now its just doing the same thing on the "outgoing server" page. Am I missing something? Should it be taking this long???? And how do I get it set up? Please help! Thanks!

On the Outgoing Server page the Outgoing Mail Server should be smtp.me.com. Select "Use Authentication" and make sure that your email username and password is populated (should be from the earlier screen).

  • How would I password protect the MAIL application?

I have never used passwords - but what I wanted to do was put a password (somehow) on the MAIL application so that no one can use it but me - in other words, when I click the application, it asks for a password before turning on. I want this to happen even when I am in my own (admin) account - is this possible?

This is not possible; you'd have to setup different accounts for each user, and then limit their access to various applications and/or files.

  • How can I set up hotmail in the mail application

    Hi
How can I set the mail application to include hotmail? I've been able to add it, but it doesn't sync read and unread messages. I know iPhones used to have the same problem, but after iOS5, there was an option to include mail from hotmail. Is there an option to include hotmail now in Mail, as I can't find it.
Also, as I've just switched from Windows to Mac, is there a button on Mac for home and end like Windows has?
    Thanks

Unfortunately hotmail requires you to pay a fee to have your e-mail go through a mail application, like Apple Mail. Contact their customer service to see about fees, as well as set up process.

This question cannot really be addressed without knowing whether you are using a POP or IMAP account? Since a POP account only downloads new emails from a POP3 server, if using the same computer, then I assume you have an IMAP account? With an IMAP account, where the Inbox actually resides on the server, only the messages you seek to read are downloaded, if in Mail Preferences/Accounts/Advanced you choose an option under "Keep copies of messages for offline viewing" to not keep any copies. Of course all messages remain online on the server.
    More info if not applicable.

  • How best to screen junk mail in the mail application?

How best to screen junk mail in the mail application?

With the Mail program running, select Preferences from the Mail menu and then select the Junk Mail tab. Turn it on. This is a decent junk mail filter and fills the needs of many people. If you find too much junk mail still making its way into your in basket, there's a third party program called SpamSieve that takes filtering to another level.

  • Cannot now open the mail application - any clues as to how i can fix this ?

Just downloaded Yosemite and cannot now open the mail application - how can i get this back ?
    thanks

First, try a system reset.  It cures many ills and it's quick, easy and harmless...
Hold down the on/off switch and the Home button simultaneously until the screen blacks out or you see the Apple logo.  Ignore the "Slide to power off" text if it appears.  You will not lose any apps, data, music, movies, settings, etc.
If the Reset doesn't work, try a Restore.  Note that it's nowhere near as quick as a Reset.  Connect via cable to the computer that you use for sync.  From iTunes, select the iPad/iPod and then select the Summary tab.  Follow directions for Restore and be sure to say "yes" to the backup.  You will be warned that all data (apps, music, movies, etc.) will be erased but, as the Restore finishes, you will be asked if you wish the contents of the backup to be copied to the iPad/iPod.  Again, say "yes."
At the end of the basic Restore, you will be asked if you wish to sync the iPad/iPod.  As before, say "yes."  Note that that sync selection will disappear and the Restore will end if you do not respond within a reasonable time.  If that happens, only the apps that are part of the IOS will appear on your device.  Corrective action is simple -  choose manual "Sync" from the bottom right of iTunes.
If you're unable to do the Restore, go into Recovery Mode per the instructions here.

How can I get google groups mail to appear in the Mail application on my iPhone 5?

Try to use the SearchReset extension to reset some preferences to the default values.
Note that the SearchReset extension only runs once and then uninstalls automatically, so it won't show on the "Firefox > Add-ons" page (about:addons).

  • HT2500 whenever I open the mail application a flurry of past emails appears from nowhere. How do I stop this happening ?

whenever I open the mail application a flurry of past emails appears from nowhere. How do I stop this happening ?

    1. If by flurry of emails you mean they all appear opened as if clicked on.
    2. Or do you mean your inbox fills up with a whole lot of 'new' unread emails downloaded from the server, so that if you delete them they return next time you open Mail.
If it is 1. Press (three keys) Option + Command + W
This will close all mail windows including the inbox.
Then press (two keys) Command + 1
    to return the inbox.
That should stop any flurry next time you open Mail
If 2., Open Mail Preferences > Accounts (select the account in question if there is more than one), click on Advanced, and where it says remove copy from server after retrieving message, select that choice and click Remove now.
