I have just setup an exchange mail account on my iphone to acces smy business emails and many of my settings have defaulted. As an example, my passcode has defaulted to a minimum of 6 digits and my phone will erase all data after 10 failed attempts. These are now greyed out and I cannot change them.
Is this a default set by Apple/Microsoft?
Or was this a setting enforced by my company, whose mail exchange I am accessing?

ditto what KT said...the passcode requirement enables the encryption of the local storage of your device and auditing of that policy ..it protects your organization AND you from potential data loss and a mandatory reporting obligation..imagine how miserable it would be to see the name of your organization on the front page of your local newspaper with a story about data loss....every IT and risk management department's worst nightmare

Are you connecting to Exchange 2003? If yes, Mail requires Exchange 2007 and higher. Your iPhone can connect but not Mail. You would have to setup as POP in Mail. Microsoft Entourage 2008 connects to Exchange 2003. It's old End of Life software so it will receive no further updates.
If you are using one of the newer versions of Exchange you might need to turn off AutoDiscover settings. This link has directions for Microsoft Outlook:

I've set up a new email account on my iphone 5 and want this email account to be set up on my Mac mini aswell. I have connected my iphone to my my mac as I thought it may sync automatically but it didn't. I'm a new mac user and still getting to grips with it! I've searched through the forums and haven't found the answer so far and so any help would be much appreciated!

If you already have an iCloud account, on your Mac open System Preferences > iCloud
Make sure Mail is selected.
On yor iPhone, tap Settings > iCloud
Make sure Mail is swtiched on.
Give iCloud a few minutes to sync the data between your Mac and your iPhone.

On legacy BB I was able to confgure an email account where the return address was shown as an alias. For example my addresss are:
primary email address: [email protected]
alias email address: [email protected]
Where [email protected] is an email alias that has spam, virus and whitelist filtering, and where after the email is cleaned the message is forwarded to [email protected]
On my legacy BB I was able to configure the email account so that the handheld would pull email from [email protected], but report the return address as [email protected] for outbound messages. That way when somebody 'replied' to a message it went through the email alias and was cleaned.
I've been trying to make this happen with my Q10 but keep getting an account as [email protected] with no reference to my alias at ieee.org.
