How do I setup my Time Capsule (3rd Generation) to be accessed from the internet while I'm traveling?

How do I setup my Time Capsule (3rd Generation) to be accessed from the internet while I'm traveling? It is installed on my home network behind my TWC broadband router.

Ok.. since the TWC modem is also a router.. all configuration takes place on this box.. NONE whatsoever takes place on the TC.
There is no airport utility 7.7.3 but there is a firmware of that number for the latest AC model TC..
Is it tall like this.
Then it is Gen5.
otherwise it will have a firmware.. 7.6.4 or earlier and the airport utility must be 6.3 or earlier.
Open the Airport utility and give us a screenshot of the summary page.
That will also help us determine that you have the TC, which version and how it is setup.
You might want to press the edit and also give us the Internet and Network tab as they should be set correctly as well.
I have created a DDNS through DYN.com although I am not sure how to implement this into the TC.
You do not do anything in the TC.. set it up in the Ubee router.
Port forward 548 to the TC in the Ubee router.
And make sure the TC has a static IP in the Ubee router.
Overall if you find this too hard I strongly recommend you buy a product designed for remote access .. eg WD MyCloud.. they are cheap and easy peasy to setup for remote access.. by PC or Mac and since it is built outside of Apple you not bound up in Apple limitations built into all their equipment to prevent you using it the way you want.. rather than apple want you too.. eg BTMM and iCloud being the only way apple provide for access to the TC and only when it is the main router of the network.
You are fighting hard because Apple made this hard.. not easy.

my macbook pro is connected to internet via my time capsule but my iPad and iPhone won't. it shows wifi connection to the time capsule but when i go on to the internet on the iPad or iPhone, it comes up with network error. can anyone help?

This can be caused by a number of issues.
Was everything working and then suddenly stopped??
Or is this a new clean setup and has never worked.
Do you have a cable modem which is not a router and the TC setup in bridge? That will cause it. The TC must be in router mode, ie dhcp and nat.
Check the IP the MBP gets including dns and gateway..
Then check the ipad/iphone.. post what IP dns and gateway (router in applespeak) they get.

  • Replacing an Airport Express with a Time Capsule but it won't connect to the internet.

Hello, I hope somebody can help.
I am trying to replace an Airport Express with a 2TB Time Capsule but it won't connect to the internet, via an ADSL modem.
I have tried everything I can think of, powering down all devices, re-setting all devices, but nothing seems to solve the problem.
When I first tried to set up the Time Capsule, there was an option to replace the Airport Express using the same settings.
But there were repeated error messages of 'No DNS Servers' and 'PPPoE server couldn't be found'.
I also had messages that the password for PPPoE wasn't correct, but when I plug the Airport Express back in again, everything works fine.
    What could the problem be?

99% of issues with authentication are wrong password or wrong username.. eg it can be strange like the user name is missing the domain.. whereas the Airport Express works fine without it.
Ring your ISP and make doubly sure you have exactly the correct username and password.
If it still doesn't work, put the adsl modem back into router mode and try it again directly on the modem.. if it works ok on the modem but fails on the TC that is possible and can be caused by pppoe client using incorrect authentication type, CHAP or PAP which the TC does not allow you to select AFAIK.. some ISP do not give enough time to get the router to switch on auto to the correct authentication method.
In the end run the modem as router and bridge the TC. It will work just as well for most installations in bridge as the modem in bridge.

  • How do I setup my time capsule with wireless internet?

I I have "Clear" so theres no place on the device to plug up an ethernet cord.. PLEASE HELP!!!! Would like to use the time capsule mainly as an external hard drive. PLEASE HELP!!!

For factory reset.. what model do you have??
    The Factory Reset Gen1-4.
Unplug your TC. Hold in reset. and power the TC back on.. without releasing reset for about 10sec. When the status light flashes rapidly; release it.
Be Gentle! Feel the switch click on. It has a positive feel..  add no more pressure after that.
TC will reboot after a couple of minutes with default factory settings and will wipe out previous configurations.
No files are deleted on the hard disk.. No reset of the TC deletes files.. to do that you use erase from the airport utility.
    Factory reset Gen 5
Hold in reset for about 5sec until the status light flashes quickly.
If your AirPort Time Capsule still doesn’t respond, do a similar reset to the Gen1-4.
Unplug your AirPort Time Capsule .. hold in reset and power the TC back on.. without releasing the reset.. wait until status led flashes rapidly.
To join a wireless network and assuming you are using a Mac with v6 utility..
    1. Full reset of the TC. as above.
    2. Open the airport utility.. the Mac must have internet connection to the wireless router which is working.
Click on other wi-fi devices which is your reset TC.
    3. The utility will choose the wrong item. You are not creating a network.. so click options.
    4. Click add to existing network.
    5. Make sure you then get the right network.. this is from my main router.
    6. The utility will then use join. Fix the name to short, no spaces and pure alphanumeric .. for better networking.
    7. The utility should complete the setup.. and you will probably need to fix a few things.. passwords or other errors fix them all up.
    8. You can now click edit and go the wireless tab and see the details.
This will give you extremely slow speeds.. it is highly NOT recommended.

  • How do I setup my Time Capsule as a wireless router?

I bougt a Time Capsule and installed on an existing network to run backup for my Mac. I got it to work succesfully, but.
Now I have moved, and need to use it as a wireless router and still keep running backup.
    How do I do this?
    Thanks

but I need a modem and connect it to the Time Capsule?
Yes. You need to contact an Internet service provider who will set things up for you and provide you with a modem.

  • How do I setup my time capsule to be a hard drive for two macs?

I basically want to be able to use my time capsule as a hard drive for both my imac and macbook pro to save storage on both but obviously to have access to everything on both machines. How do I set this up?
    Thanks.

I would recommend you use an excellent backup App that is capable of doing what you want, such as "Carbon Copy Cloner" or "Superduper".

  • How do I reconfigure a Time Capsule when it doesn't appear in the list?

Mac book pro connected to internet wirelessly with Time Capsule, Airport Utility will not recognize or find this Time Capsule..Was getting message "can't find Time Capsule"  ..Mine is not listed in Time Machine Preferences for "select back-up disc"  How do I reconfigure Time Ca[sule to acccess my backup files to to back up in the future?

If your internet is working this is the standard problem of TC disappearing yet network is really connected.
You list mountain lion.. it this still correct??
Test with the newest version of Mavericks if you have updated.. the new version is 10.9.3 and may help.
Otherwise the process is described in this thread.

  • I've had a new hard drive installed and reloaded all my stuff via time capsule and now can't connect to the internet although it say Airport is connected. How can I fix this problem ?

Just had a new hard drive for my iMac and reloaded all my stuff via time capsule, all works fine apart from Safari which won't connect to internet. Airport is connected but each time Safari comes back saying there is no connection....any help gratefully recieved.

So you have the apple rotuer called a time capsule  and you have complete the frist time machine back up? but there is not internet access ?
    If so.
Opem airport utiltiy on your Comptuer :
What is the IP ? > if its 169.254.xx.xx > its a self assigned
Try power cycling the Internet source  for up to 1 mintue and make sure all the lights  turn off.
    In Airport Utility Version 5.5.3 / 5.6.1
Gi > Intenret > conncetiong sharing > Is it off  bridge mode change it to share a public Ip address
    In airport Utility  version 6.0/6.1
Edit > network > rotuer mode : Should be DHCP and NAT unless you use PPPoE to conecnt to the internet then this is automatically invoked.

  • How do I format a Time Capsule (3TB) drive for serving as an external drive while replacing its TC function with a Seagate 4TB drive yet keeping the Apple TC's wifi functionality?

I have a hard line from my iMac to an Apple Time  3 TB Time Capsule with wifi. I wish to replace the drive potion of the Time Capsule with a new Seagate 4TB drive

Aside from changing the type of data you put on the Time Capsule, leave its drive as is. Its format is fixed.

  • Time Capsule only allows one Macbook be on the internet at a time!

So far no one even at Apple Care has been able to solve this problem.
My wife and i have brand new Macbooks. Mine, the latest 2.4Ghz black model bought in the UK and her's the 2.1Ghz bought in the US.
We both used the Orange livebox as our wireless router and it worked seamlessly (albeit only when security was turned off) until i purchased a 1TB Time Capsule.
I managed to get the TC up as our wireless router with the Livebox as the modem, but, bizarrely, it will only allow ONE computer to be on the internet at a time - and giving preference to mine. Basically, the second i turn my airport on - she loses connection! It's like my computer ***** the internet away from hers.
If hers is the only computer on in the house then it works perfectly.
I have spent hours on the phone to Apple Care and changed a number of the settings within Airport Utility, but the longest we got both computer running on the internet together was for about 20 minutes when i switched to Radio Mode 802.11n only (5 Ghz). For a moment we thought the problem was solved until i put the phone down and low an behold, she lost her connection once more.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks in advance.

Don't know what an Orange livebox is, but I will treat it as a DSL modem and assume the ISP uses a DHCP server. Make sure you have connected the modem to the TC WAN port.
Open AirPort Utility, select the TC, click on Manual Setup, click on the Internet tab.
    - is 'Connect Using:' set to 'Ethernet' - set to this if not.
    - is 'Configure IPv4:' set to 'Using DHCP' - set to this if not.
    - is 'Ethernet WAN Port:' set to 'Automatic (Default)' - set to this if not.
    - is 'Connection Sharing:' set to 'Share a public IP address' - set to this if not (if set to Bridge Mode then only one computer will be able to use the internet).
Click 'Update and wait for TC to restart.
Check the network settings on the client computers. Go to System Preferences/Network/AirPort:
    - click on the 'Network Name:' roll-button, select 'Join Other Network...', enter 'Network Name and select the security type you are using, and finally, enter your Password and click 'Join'.
    If ISP uses DHCP:
    - click on 'Advanced', TCP/IP and confirm that 'Configure IPv4:' is set to 'Using DHCP', click 'OK'.
    - click the 'Apply' button and exit System Preferences.
May also be wise to Repair Permissions using Disk Utility and to reboot your network hardware:
    1. Turn power off to ISP modem and the TC, and shutdown computer - leave power off for 10 minutes.
    2. Turn on modem and wait for it to complete its test cycle. Then turn on the TC.
    3. Turn on computer and check your internet connection.

  • Time Capsule don't connect alarm system to the internet by UDP ports

I have installed an Airport Time Capsule and connected to the ethernet port an Joblatron Alarm system.
The alarm systems gets a IP-adres(reserved by DHCP reservation ip:192.168.1.110) from the Time Capsule Buth doesn't connect to the internet. When i send a ping to the ip adres 1 get a ping result so there is an connection between Time Capsule and alarm system.
After communication with the service desk from the alarm system i have forwarde the next UDP ports: 7070, 8080,8081,8082,8083,8084,8085,8086,8087,8088,8089. The alarm system must make connetion with the server from jablotron(gsmlink.cz) and send my ip-adres to the server. From this site I can make connection to my alarm system and managed it.
What can I do to fixing this problem?

I don't see anything wrong with the setup. This is just typical apple being difficult.
Are all names SMB standard.. ie short, no spaces and pure alphanumeric. Do not use apple naming.
What model TC and what firmware are you running??
I strongly recommend earlier firmware. 7.6.1 for later Gen4 and 7.5.2 for earlier ones.
No luck it is much easier to bridge out the TC and use a standard router that has real controls.. and use that. TC can still do wireless and network backups for your Mac.. but it is hopeless when you mix in other brands.

  • My time capsule all of a sudden disconnected from the wireless system and can no longer be fund by my MacBook Pro. The little lamp on the the capsules has turned off, but it still makes a noice inside,

My Time capsule did a backup yesterday in the morning without any problem. All of a sudden, it disconnected from the wireles system last night and the little indicator lamp turned off. It still makes a noice, as if a disc was turning inside. The Time Capsule was bought last year in June. Any suggestiom what to do? What happens if I press the little buttom (reset?), will I loose af my backup?

Do a reset.. power off the TC..
Hold in reset and power on.. keep holding in reset until it flashes rapidly.. if it turns on at all.
If you bought it in June.. take it back today.. it is broken.. at a guess.
Some Gen4 are failing this way.. get Apple to replace it.. even if it is a few days out of warranty it won't be much.

  • My .5tb Time Capsule's orange light is flashing. The internet and everything utelse is working fine, and I'm all backed up, so howcome it doesn't show the solid green light? What should I do?

The orange light has been flashing for a couple days, and even if I unplug everything (Time Capsule & modem) and plug it all in again, still the flashing orange light. I'm sure it should be solid green. The internet connection seems to be working fine, so I'm wondering what's happening. What should I do?

I don't think Apple will want it.. you can sell it on ebay etc.. but it is not worth a lot.
Your TC needs a new power supply but it is now uneconomic to fix them. Apple do not supply any parts for their repair network.
If you want to repair it yourself you can ..

  • Time Capsule 2TB 2013 won't connect to the internet

I recently got a new MBA (2013) and a 2TB TC with it. The TC can not connect to the internet. I have a basic motorolla router and my ISP is COX.
I can utilize the Time Machine functionality just fine and even managed to back up my system, however, the TC itself just wont connect to the internet. I have tried to reset the TC and even attemped a factory reset with no avail. Any suggestions??
    Thank you.

Is the modem a router.. ?
If not the modem has to be power cycled.. for cable the off time can be 5min or might be longer 20min or so.. make sure the TC is in router mode.. (DHCP and NAT) and can get the public IP on the WAN interface.. if not please post screenshots of the setup and results of the connection. WAN ip in particular.
