How do I share a keychain list between two shared Lion computers

How do I share a keychain list between two Lion computers; my wife's MacBookPro and my MacPro. We have Airport.

See answer below. (Note: this is not a question about iTunes Home Sharing so it should have been asked in the Mac OS X Lion forums.)
For security reasons you can't share keychains like that since each user's keychain is encrypted and protected by the user's password. Sorry, there is no convenient way to share Keychains.
Now, that being said, the Keychain file is stored in the following directory, ~/Library/Keychains/, and called 'login.keychain. You could conceivably use file sharing, or some other method, to send your 'login.keychain' file to your wife's computer and she could conceivably use the 'Add Keychain…' command to add your keychain to her Keychain app but I think it gets messy doing that. Also, she would need to know your password to access that file but, between spouses, that may be a non-issue.

  • How do I share one itunes account between two users on the same computer

How do I share one itunes account between two users on the same computer without taking up twice as much space on my hard drive?

You would need to move the itunes folder to a location that both users have permissions to access such as the Shared folder or any folder on the root level of the macintosh HD.
You can find instructions here http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1203 This method allows you to share the content without sharing the same library.

  • Hello there - how can I share my iTunes library between two users on the same computer? I put the library in a shared folder between both and have selected this library on both as well, but when I update iTunes with music etc it only appears on one?

Thank you Joe - I tried this but it's only showing a teensy amount of music - the stuff on the second users account as opposed to the giagntic library on the 'main' account. I actually went to a Genius Bar and they said that apple doesn't really want you to share music between accounts - parents don't want to hear their kids music etc. Which seemed strange, but it might be the case sadly   Thanks anyway!

  • HT204053 how do I share calendars and music between two ID's?

How do I share calendars and music between two Apple ID's?  We have a Mac Pro and two Iphones.  Currently we utilize one ID between the Iphones in order to sync the calendars and music.

You can privately share a calendar between devices using different iCloud IDs as explained here: http://help.apple.com/icloud/#mm6b1a8694.  Even if your devices use different IDs for iCloud you can continue to share the same ID for iTunes to share your music and other purchased media.  The ID you use on a device for iCloud does not need to be the same as the ID used for iCloud.

  • How best to share Numbers spreadsheet usage between two networked Macs?

I have never really shared files between two users as my wife always had a Windows computer. She recently purchased an iMac and now has Numbers, so we are interested in sharing access to a couple of spreadsheets for household management. I have racked my brain trying to figure out how to share a file like this, expecting to show her how easy it is on a Mac, but so far I am making it look as difficult to figure out as it was for her on a windows network. Needless to say she is not very impressed with me or with file sharing on a Mac!
I have a iWork numbers spreadsheet I wantto share between myself on my iMac and my wife on her iMac on our local/home network. I tried keeping the file in my Public Folder but that apparently is not designed to allow my wife to make changes to and re-save back to the same location in my public folder.
So how else can I set this up to allow both my wife and I to acess (at different times, not simultaneously) the file, make changes, and save it back to the same location? I have a family MobileMe account as well as the local networked iMacs, if that is a possible solution.
I have heard some people talk about the 3rd party tool called DropBox, but I would like to keep to a local/Apple solution if this is possible with Apple hardware/software.
Thanks in advance to all you gurus for whom this is an easy fix.

Share the document via DropBox and discuss changes via iwork.com comments.
Neat idea; I'll check that out later this evening, thanks for the help here.
For sharing the file it seems there are two preferred methods:
    1. create a file sharing local user account to host the share documents entirely on a local network. Pros: not routed through the internet. Cons: requires entering a user name and password for access. *(Can Keychain remember the shared account login credentials and enter this for you automatically to make this process even easier?)*
    2. Use a dropbox account. Pros: no need to enter login credentials each time. Cons: requires internet access to upload and distribute changes.
Any other issues to consider between the two options?

How do I share music from my itunes account with my daughter so she can put it on her ipad?

To give other users read-only access to your iTunes library, use the Sharing features of iTunes. Sharing works over the local network as well as on the same computer. See the built-in help for details.
To give others selective access to your iPhoto library, you have the option of using iCloud Photo Sharing, if the privacy implications don't bother you. The images will be stored temporarily on Apple servers.

  • How can I share my itunes libraries between two users on different log ins on the same PC?

Ive recently bought my wife and iPhone 4, and we have a shared library. But she clearly downloads her own apps and music choices direct from the store to her phone, so wants to maintain her own log in etc. How can I share the library in my iTunes on my log in on the same PC to her iTunes on her log I'm on the same PC. its windows Xp machine with latest itunes version.
Ive followed the online instructions for sharing thus far, and the share library does not appear in either iTunes. ie It aint working!
    Thanks in advance

When you say you have a shared library... you mean you have a networked external hard drive that you are sharing?
In iTunes, generally...when the term Shared Library is used, it's speaking to sharing a specific computer's library over the network with different computer.
I would think it would be better to do what ya'll have been doing (one log in acct/one computer) and have her create her own Apple acct and each of you log in and out whenever purchasing music apps etc. and then setup individual playlists and pick specific playlists to sync with each individual iPhone.
If you don't want each other to know what you're buying then...disregard what I just said

  • How do I share iCal Address book between two iPhones?

    I have 2 iPhone 4S and currently 1 iCloud & iTunes accts.
What I want to be able to do is share the address book, notes, iCal, reminders between the two phones so if i enter a phone #, email &/or event it is visible on both phones, imac @ home & on icloud.
Do I need an 2nd iCloud acct for her?
Also for apps, music, etc would I have to purchase twice for each phone?

Thanks so much for your detailed reply.  Much appreciated!
Just to confirm my understanding that 100% clear on the solution, if my wife gets her own iCloud account, on her phone she'll receive her own emails & iMessages (makes sense) but not contacts.  Calendars though we could share.
Without two separate iCloud accts though -- iCloud on my phone, and her email through Gmail on her phone -- we could share all the common iCloud data (contacts, calendar, notes, reminders, etc.) by enabling the appropriate settings on her phone.
Am I correct to conclude then that the sole benefit of her adding own iCloud acct is email through iCloud (and I guess the free 5GB)?  It would not be possible to simply and easily have one common 'family' address book (i.e. since while Calendars are share-able, contact libraries are not)?

  • How do you share the iPhoto library between two logins

My wife and I each have our own logins and both started iphoto libraries.  I's like there to be only one that we can both access.  Can someone tell me how to do this?  Thanks.

For iPhoto 09 (version 8.0.2) and later:
    What you mean by 'share'.
If you want the other user to be able to see the pics, but not add to, change or alter your library, then enable Sharing in your iPhoto (Preferences -> Sharing), leave iPhoto running and use Fast User Switching to open the other account. In that account, enable 'Look For Shared Libraries'. Your Library will appear in the other source pane.
Any user can drag a pic from the Shared Library to their own in the iPhoto Window.
Remember iPhoto must be running in both accounts for this to work.
If you want the other user to have the same access to the library as you: to be able to add, edit, organise, keyword etc.
Quit iPhoto in both accounts. Move the Library to the Users / Shared Folder
(You can also use an external HD set to ignore permissions, a Disk Image or even partition your Hard Disk.)
In each account in turn: Double click on the Library to open it. (You may be asked to repair the Library Permissions.) From that point on, this will be the default library location. Both accounts will have full access to the library, in fact, both accounts will 'own' it.
However, there is a catch with this system and it is a significant one. iPhoto is not a multi-user app., it does not have the code to negotiate two users simultaneously writing to the database, and trying will cause db corruption. So only one user at a time, and back up, back up back up.

  • How do I share an lvm partition between two systems?

    Hi,
I have a regular system which I usually work from, and I created a lvm partition using that system to store files in. I have another Arch system on the same harddrive (different partition) and I would like to know how I can access the lvm partition using the second system.
I have the following in my new system
    /dev/sda8 swap swap defaults 0 0
    /dev/sda9 / ext3 defaults 0 1
    /dev/sda5 /mnt/arch ext3 defaults 0 0
    /dev/sda2 /mnt/boot ext2 defaults 0 0
    /dev/sda6 /mnt/arch-home reiserfs defaults 0 0
    /dev/ravilvg/lvmpartition /mnt/lvmpartition reiserfs defaults,users 0 0
When I try to mount '/mnt/lvmpartition', I get
    [root@myhost ravi]# mount /mnt/lvmpartition/
mount: special device /dev/ravilvg/lvmpartition does not exist
I have put USELVM="yes" in my rc.conf, and on bootup I get the message that Device mapper is not in the kernel. 'lsmod' shows the dm_mod module is not loaded, but loading the module and running the mount command still does not work.
Here are the outputs of the lvm commands
    [root@myhost ravi]# lvm pvscan
    PV /dev/sda10 VG ravilvg lvm2 [24.20 GB / 0 free]
    Total: 1 [24.20 GB] / in use: 1 [24.20 GB] / in no VG: 0 [0 ]
    [root@myhost ravi]# lvm vgscan
Reading all physical volumes. This may take a while...
Found volume group "ravilvg" using metadata type lvm2
    [root@myhost ravi]# lvm lvscan
    inactive '/dev/ravilvg/lvmpartition' [24.20 GB] inherit
      Thanks,
    Ravster

    Hi,
You were right, the solution was to simply activate the volume
      What I did was
    lvm lvchange -ay /dev/ravilvg/lvmpartition
The lvm partition is now accesible from both systems
    Thanks for your help,

  • I would like the share an iTunes library between two different accounts on one Mac. How do I do this?

iTunes no longer works properly (aka at all) while using one of the user accounts set up on my iMac. It does, however, work when logging in under another user account on the same iMac. (if any of you can help me solve this issue that would be perfect). If there is no solution can anyone help with my request to share an iTunes library between two different accounts on one Mac. How do I do this?

Copy it to his computer into his iTunes library and authorize his computer with the iTunes account used to purchase them..
You cannot tranfser items from one iTunes account to another. Purchased items remain part of the iTunes account is was purchased with.
iTunes account - used to purchase items
iTunes library - where purchases (and CD RIPs) go on the computer

How do I share music in iTunes between different iTunes account on the MacBook Pro?

If it's in a single iTunes library, it's already being shared. If it's in separate user accounts on the computer, move one library to the /Users/Shared/ folder, launch iTunes with the Option key held down, point it there, and import the music from the other library to it.

  • How do I share files on iCloud between different apps?

    Hi,
how do I share files on iCloud between different apps?
I would like to edit simple plain text files on my Mac and my iPad using different apps. They don't see the content of each other. How do I fix this?
    example:
when I create a .txt files:
Byword on Mac syncs nicely with Byword on iOS.
Ulysses 3 on Mac syncs nicely with Daedalus Touch.
BUT, cross-sync is not possible.... :/
How can I change this? - I would like to work with Byword on my Mac and Daedalus on the go.
    Thanks in advance!

Cross-sync only works if an app on the iDevice allows it.  For example, some apps (editors) sync with Dropbox (icloud usually isn't the thing to use) but only in their own folders.
If you save a file from the mac to it's own folder, A, on dropbox and on the device you use a different app that uses its own folder, B, then you won't be able to reach folder A on the device.
One thing to look for in editors that support Dropbox (most do, on a device - clearly all do on a mac) is whether they access dropbox using the root folder.  From there you can drop down to any subfolder and reach the files you want.
