How do I share folders to other people using iCloud Drive?

I would like to replace DropBox. How do I share a link to folders in iCloud Drive to other people? Does it have this capability?

I have been trying to find an answer for this too, as a dropbox user for many years I was hoping that iCloud drive could be a replacement, but it looks like it falls way way short in comparison to dropbox for sharing folders with family or work project folders with peer workers, as it basically does not have the scope to do it!!!
iCloud drive looks to only be for personal usage.
AND THATS A BAD APPLE !

  • How to securely share Folders with different People inside one Network

    Hey there,
I'm working with different people on different projects. All are connected to the same network. Most users have 10.6, some 10.5. I'm providing them with Files. My idea is to setup Folders inside my public folder for each of them to pick their files up. But it is important that only the appropriate person has access to his Folder. Is there a way to set this up easy?

Click on the Folder in question. Go the word File in the top right-hand corner. Click on More Info. Then at the bottom you can set the access for individual users, i.e. read and write access, no access, read access, etc. That way you can limit if people can even get to those folders and who can. Also you want to be sure you hit the little cog symbol when your done managing the permissions and hit "Apply to Enclosed folders" that way everything in that folder is guarenteed to have those permission limitations.

  • How can I share my entire photo library from iCloud Drive?

I attempted to create a stream, but it only allows 5K photos and I have nearly 14K. Not being able to share iCloud Storage space seems to me to be counterintuitive to the concept family sharing.

  • How should i share file with other devices such as nokia, blackberry and etc using bluetooth

I want to share  files between other deivce such as nokia but couldnt, could u help me tell how can i share files with other devices???

@AKRBTN: Thanks for the reply and info.
That is a solution, but it really isn't viable.
It is sad that apple refuses to support this.
A simple example: Sitting somewhere with no signal and you want to share a file (photo) with your colleague or friend, who happens to be right next to you.
Or even if there is signal and you don't want to be paying fees or data charges.
Or you may be in a rehearsal studio and need to share that very important file and have no time to go outside and get signal and try to send the file, which then everyone else has to go outside and catch the signal and pay fees.
Anyway, I see that this is a dead end with apple, so I guess I will be back to carrying 2 phones around again.
    Peace,
    SB

    Thanks for your help

First thing to do is find the information you received on your internet service, which should have the info on logging in to your router itself.  Login, usually from a browser like Safari, and find where to change the admin password, not the netowrk or WiFi password.  Change the admin password from the factory default, and write it down so you don't forget it...if there is ever a problem with your service you have to have that.
Once the router is secure, on your iMac how do you operate?  Did you just set it up out-of-the box without adding user accounts?
With the router secure there is little risk of an intruder using your equipment...but it would be worth it to change your network password, especially the wireless part of the network, and to check to see what security method is being used.  The most secure is WPA2.

How do I share pictures woth other users on my Mac without using iCloud or photo streaming?

Simplest way is probably to put copies into the Users/Shared folder.

How do I share contacts with other family members?

Click on the Sharing button in Contacts. Several options:
You can also select a bunch of contacts and Export them as vCards. Deliver them to the Family members via disk, thumb drive, email, Airdrop, etc.
If you mean "share" as in Calendar sharing, then that is not possible.

If you have iPhoto on an iOS device rather than a Mac, you can create a 'Photo Journal', which is an online gallery hosted on iCloud: details here -

This facility is not as yet available in iPhoto on a Mac. If you don't have an iOS device you will need to find a third-party alternative. This page examines some options:

  • How can I share Quicken and other apps with another user on the same iMac?

I would like to share some apps including Quicken with anoter user on the same iMac. I have put the Quicken app and the .QFX file in /usrs/share and changed the permissions to R/W on both files but when I log in as the other user and run Quicken it does not use the .QFX file and instead comes up with no accounts.

The Quicken app. should be in the Applications folder at the root of Macintosh HD. It's accessible to all users from there.
To share a file, (this from Finder Help menu)
"Sharing files with others who use your computer
You can share files with others who use your computer by placing the files in the Public folder in your home folder. Anyone with an account on your computer can read or copy the items you put in your Public folder (except for your Drop Box folder, which only you can open).
To share files using your Public folder:
Copy the files you want to share into your Public folder, inside your home folder.
To give a copy of a file directly to another person, copy it to their Drop Box folder (inside their Public folder), where only they can see it."
When opening a file just double-click the file - it will open the application automatically.

iCloud is not designed for sharing data with other people: you will need a third-party alternative such as DropBox or Sugarsync.

Sync them both to the same iTunes music library.  You can also automatically download purchased music to both by going to Settings>iTunes & App Stores and turning Music to On under Automatic Downloads.  If you music is in multiple computers, you can enable Home sharing to share your music library across multiple devices (see http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3819).

Can I share documents with other users with iCloud as opposed to MobileMe?

No. iCloud provides no equivalent of the iDisk; it's designed for syncing calendars, email, bookmarks, contacts, photos a iWork (only, so far) documents between your Mac(s) and iPhone/iPod/iPad. The data is not accessible to anyone else.
For file storage and sharing you will need a third-party solution - this page examines some options:

    Hello Stacey140
You should not have an issues with removing accounts and messing with others users backup. As long as you are not removing the main account that is yours that you use for back up, everything will be fine.

    Mark,
I would be interested in knowing how you can decouple the obpmlogviewer.exe app from the OBPM Enterprise installation.
How can I send a simple .zip file to others and tell them: "hey, unzip (or install) this only and you will be able to read OBPM engine logs files on your local machine" ?
The logViewer executable can't be run without an enterprise install (at least not easily decoupled), however, an alternative, would be to pass someone the .jnlp and some log files.... To do this, open up the process admin, and in the top right, is a link for 'Launch Log Viewer'. Open that, and then go to 'File - Save As', and this will save a java executable to your computer.
I'm pretty sure you can pass that, and either an admin user and password to view 'live' logs, or just have them cancel the remote log, and open a local file....
    Adam,
PS: I don't see any opbmlogreader.exe or .sh or .bet in the OBPM_HOME\bin directory. I am looking at OBPM standalone, and the only relevant files I can see are obpmlogviewer.exe , obpmlogviewer.lax , lax.jar. Am I missing something?
MaxI too don't have the log reader, however I do remember it... I'm thinking the .sh might only be included in the linux distribution of enterprise, so I'm downloading that now to verify... I will let you know what I find...
    HTH,
