How do I share iPhoto library and Quicken info between accounts on the same

I'm on an iMac running Leopard and iPhoto 7.1.2 and Quicken 2004. My wife has one account and I have another. How do we share iPhoto libraries and Quicken input automatically across accounts on the same machine?

There are two ways to share iPhoto, depending on what you mean by 'share'.
If you want the other user to be able to see the pics, but not add to, change or alter your library, then enable Sharing in your iPhoto (Preferences -> Sharing), leave iPhoto running and use Fast User Switching to open the other account. In that account, enable 'Look For Shared Libraries'. Your Library will appear in the other source pane.
Remember iPhoto must be running in both accounts for this to work.
If you want the other user to have the same access to the library as you: to be able to add, edit, organise, keyword etc. then:
Quit iPhoto in both accounts
Move the iPhoto Library Folder to an external HD set to ignore permissions. You could also use a dmg.
(Some people have had success putting the library in the Users/ Shared folder. If you do this make sure the file permissions are set to allow read/write access to everyone.)
In each account in turn: Hold down the option (or alt) key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting dialogue, select 'Choose Library' and navigate to the new library location. From that point on, this will be the default library location. Both accounts will have full access to the library, in fact, both accounts will 'own' it.
However, there is a catch with this system and it is a significant one. iPhoto is not a multi-user app., it does not have the code to negotiate two users simultaneously writing to the database, and trying will cause db corruption. So only one user at a time, and back up, back up back up.

Choose FaceTime > Preferences.
The Account field identifies the Apple ID you used to sign in to FaceTime.
You can turn off and sign out of apple id.

How Can I Share iPhoto Library/Keywords Among Multiple Users

Hi there! I am having a bit of a dilemma where I am trying how I can have several users access a shared iPhoto library (as well as retain their own personal iPhoto libraries). Basically, I have a handful of (three) users that need to be able to store/search against a common shared photo library - ideally, in iPhoto.
I understand that I can share albums through iPhoto (users are using a mix of iPhoto '08 and '09) on one account as long as iPhoto is running - a serious drawback. When I tried sharing photos via this method I was able to see the shared albums; however the keywords that were defined for those photos were not available. This presents two questions:
1) Can iPhoto share its library among multiple users (including keywords, etc) so that if a user account (let's call it "media") shares out selected albums that the viewing users (user1 and user2) can search against the keywords in the host library? Or is this not possible with iPhoto?
2) Is there another way of sharing photos that is more efficient and can be hosted on our private servers? The interface in iPhoto is amazing - and if there was an application that allowed for that same sort of feel/tagging we would be good to go...

Well here is the weird thing. If I was sharing out the library from my computer, I could search for the keywords (and obtain results) as expected. However, if I went to another computer that was viewing my shared library, searching by the same keyword did not return any results.

I'm using XP...Toshiba Satellite S4747 laptop
In the Realtek software under " Realtek HD audio input" I have mic and stereo mix both.... but I can only select one at a time.....

On a different note.... a friend of mine whose using one non-Toshiba laptop with win XP has an older version of the Realtek audio driver and can select both mic and stereo mix at the same time... I downloaded that version into my laptop but I still can only select one at a time....

Check the audio settings in Windows and dont forget in Realtek HD audio manager. You can find it in control panel.
I think your microphone is set to mute so check this.

You can set the permissions to allow anyone to modify each file.
Select the file, press cmd-i on the keyboard, scroll down to the bottom of the dialogue and click the padlock.
Enter your admin password, then change all the permissions to allow read and write.
You could also do the same thing with the Shared folder itself which should allow everyone to modify any file placed in the folder. Select the shared folder, and repeat the procedure above. Then, next to the padlock you should see a 'cog' icon with a drop down menu. Click the menu and choose 'apply to enclosed items' and 'OK' when the warning dialogue ('Are you sure? You cannot undo this action') comes up.

How can I transfer a local mailbox to another user account on the same computer?

I have two user accounts on the same computer. I actually never really wanted two accounts, but a second one was generated when I chose to use the Migration Assistant to transfer my account from a previous computer to my current one, and I never did anything to delete the second one. Anyway, I have been using Mac Mail to view my work email messages from a Microsoft Exchange server. Awhile back, I was running out of space on my mail server, and decided to download a bunch of my email messages to local mailboxes in order to free up space.
Recently (for reasons that are not terribly relevant) I have decided to switch between the two user accounts on the computer. I have transfered all of my documents, apps, etc. to the new account. However, I haven't been able to find a way to transfer all the email that is in those local mailboxes, so that they are viewable/usable in the new account. Could somebody suggest the best way for me to do this? I am no longer going to use the old account, so the two do not have to be synced. I just want the mailboxes to be available for the new user account (with the same organizational structure).
I am currently running Mavericks (just upgraded last week).

A quick update....
I copied the folder in ~Library/Mail/V2/Mailboxes that contains all of my local mailboxes over to the same location in the new account. When I go into mail, the entire file structure is there, however it does not let me view (or search) any of the messages. The messages can be accessed through the Finder, though.
I tried to "Rebuild" the local mailboxes, but it didn't seem to do anything. Any advice would be appreciated.

Installing iTunes does not cause content to magically appear on the computer.
Your media is only where you put it.
iOS devices are not backup devices.
Copy the media from the old computer to the new computer.

How do I share iTunes Library and Playlists

I had a desktop mac with 2 login accounts, we enjoy having our own spaces, mail, desktops, prefs, etc.. but we do not wish to duplicate nor keep either one out of our digital assests, ie music, photos, etc..
I used to have an alias to the other users itunes library and all was fine. He is the predominant music purchaser in the house and I have full access to even his latest purchases.
Upon buying a new machine, 1.66GHz duo core mini we seem to have lost this ability. If I make an alias now, when I launch itunes it says cannot find the folder itunes, it seems to now know its a folder it must find and not an alias to one. I have read ideas about sharing and fast user switching, not really the solution I am looking for or used to have. I think many couples find themselves in a similar situation. Seems silly that we now have to be logged in one side to play/stream music in the house and make sure we are logged into the other side whenever we connect the digital camera.
Any ideas would be appreciated.

I have tried sharing the file on an external drive but this has caused all sorts of problems with photos disappearing and/or not being able to be edited. I was hoping iCloud sharing or family would work but being on the same machine I need the main iCloud account active at all times. okay I'm not sure if I'm missing something, but i just imitated the same scenario on my mac and it seems to work fine. I made sure to change permissions of the shared folder AND the the actual photo library. I gave everyone access to everything (as far as the folder & library was concerned). I uploaded & viewed from both accounts. You might want to view permissions of your entire disk in disk utility to make sure there isn't an error.. Make a backup first though.
The permissions will not stick. Earlier iPhoto versions did allow this, because iPhoto did not write to an iPhoto Library if you only wanted to browse it, but with iPhoto '11 the behaviour changed. Opening an iPhoto Library from a different account will write files with changed ownership right into the library, and that will cause problems if you edit or tag photos from a second account. I have a MacBook Pro 15 and an iMac. Most of my pictures and movies are loaded onto my MacBook, but some are on the iMac. I want to combine these onto an external drive (which should free up space on both HD's) and use the external drive for all my pictures and movies. How do I go about doing this and getting both iPhoto's on each computer to look at the external drive when opened?

1. Use the paid version ($20) of iPhoto Library Manager to merge the libraries. It's the only way to do this.
2. Make sure the external is formatted Mac OS Extended (Journaled). Set it to ignore permissions and then pow the merge Library on it.
3. From each machine in turn: Hold down the option (or alt) key key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Choose Library' and point iPhoto at the Library.
Some caveats:
1. Iphoto is not a server or multi-user application. One one machine can access the Library at a time.
2. Connecting via wireless is fine if all you're doing is viewing. If you're trying to edit the Library (that is, make albums, move photos around, keyword, make books or slideshows etc.) or edit individual photos in it via Wireless be very careful. Dropouts are a common fact of wireless networking, and should one occur while the app is writing to the database then your Library will be damaged. Simply, I would not do this with my Libraries.
