How do I share itunes account with my wife who just got an iphone?

How can I share my itunes account with my wife who just got her iphone 3gs but doesn't have an itunes account yet?

hi, thanks but when i connect my wife's iphone to the pc it does a three step synch at the end of which nothing has transfered to her phone.
asking it to synch on the dropdown menu top left pf itumes page or asking for synch after going into the icon for her iphone on top right does same three step synch with no result. i have no set up my itunes library on a separate pc (notebook) and put her apple id and password into the share function, and her id and passwoed onto share function on this pc. that gets my 'library' up via the share menu top left but it doesnt synch onto her phone either...

You can continue to share the same iTunes account ID with your daughter and set up a separate iCloud account with a different ID.
=> is this a different iCloud account for each device?  I thought iCloud account ID had to match some iTunes account ID, for which we only have one i Tunes account?
You need to set up a separate iCloud account for each person that does not want to share their iCloud data.  If you share an iCloud account with someone, any data you both sync with the shared account is merged, and you end up with each other's data on your device(s).  If, for example, you owned two devices and someone else in the family also owned two devices, you would both want your own iCloud accounts, and you would each set up your personal iCloud account on the two devices you own.  In other words, you want a separate iCloud account for each person to be used on the devices they own.  Each iCloud account has to have a separate Apple ID.  The ID does not need to be the same as the ID used for iTunes.  Many families perfer to share the same iTunes account/ID, but maintain separate iCloud accounts with different IDs to keep there data separated.

=> what ID, iTunes?  So I can have a separate iCloud account "only" ID which I also assume must be some [valid] email address?  The children currently do not have email accounts anywhere.
Yes, I was referring to the iTunes ID not needing to be the same as the ID used for iCloud.  In order to set up an Apple ID your children will need to have a valid email address that can be verified by Apple.  Apple requires this so they have a way of contacting the owner if there is a problem with the account, such as when you may need to reset the password on the account.  When you set up the ID, Apple will send a verification email to this email account and you will need to click on the verificating link in the email to complete the process.  If they don't currently have an email account you can just set one up with gmail or another free email hosting service.  They don't have to use the account but you will need it to set up the ID.

You can share the same Apple ID in
Settings > iTunes & App Store > Apple ID: here
But for all other Apple services like:
FaceTime, iMessage, iCloud, etc, one of you should use a different Apple ID.

  • HT4557 can I share music on my itunes account with my wife's iphone?

Can I share music on my itunes account with my wife's iphone?

I have a similar problem, and have followed your suggestions with great success.
We both have seperate itunes accounts and both share the same login on our computer (although I could create a login for her if it would be better).
As I said, setting up her phone worked great, I could add all of my music, and select the apps I already had to put on her phone, etc.  However, now I cannot log back into my account from itunes on our computer, I just get an error saying iTunes is not available at this time.
My phone also started asking for her itunes details each time I went to the App store / itunes on my phone, but I've changed this back to me.
So, my question is, how do I get back into itunes on my computer?  Should it be possible to keep swapping accounts?

    Just email it.
In iTunes, drag the file to the desktop.
On the desktop, select the file right click Share > email.
I just want to send my sister one song from my iTunes because its a recording of her daughter when she was 2. She no longer has the file and I only have it saved in my iTunes from a long ago. The only known file is the one I have saved on iTunes.
You do make regular backups of your computer, correct?
    Use Time Machine?

  • HT204053 If I have an apple ID for myself and my wife has just got a iPhone for the first time how can she get the same apps as I have for my iPhone and iPad

If I have an apple ID for myself and my wife has just got a iPhone for the first time how can she get the same apps as I have for my iPhone and iPad by getting it off my iCloud?

She can't from iCloud without setting up your iCloud account on her phone. But just sync the same apps from your iTunes Library on your computer to her phone.
Your wife should setup her own iCloud account - which is separate to the iTunes Store accounts.

  • How can i share itunes content with my family?

I just got an iPhone and gave my sister my iPod touch. Is there any way can we share our apps/music with each other? I was going to use home sharing but from what I've read both users have to be on the same wifi network and we'll only be in the same house during the summer because she's in college.

Check out this Apple article -> How to use multiple iPods, iPads, or iPhones with one computer
You can create playlists for each device or  seperate iTunes libraries.

  • How can I share my music with my wife's account?

My family has multiple accounts on various devices (IPods, IPad) that share one IMac. How can I share the music on my account with my wife's account? My music doesn't show up on her account and vice/versa.

I'm sorry to say, unless you're using apples pay service, that allows you to upload your own music, there is no way to do that. I'm assuming that the music you are talking about has not been purchased through them. If it has, then you can redownload it to any devices from within your app.
I personally dont think its fair that you can't import music from your own online sources, but apple isnt in the busness of giving us what we want, just what will make them money.
You could also look into some of the rare apps that have been allowed to slip through such as 8player or vlc. One of those might be able to pull from your own online source, but I cant say for sure, and its unlikely is will work very well. I personally have started using a third party cloud service to store backups of my music, that might be something to look into.

  • How can I share an iBook with my wife?

I am planning a major purchase of English language reference books (dictionaries, grammars, usage guides). The prices are high and number of books I plan to buy is close to ten which adds up to a little bit less than $500.
All of them I certainly want to share with my wife who has her own iPad, Mac, and iPhone. However, we both want to keep our Apple IDs and iCloud accounts separate, and not to share emails, documents in iWorks etc.
Some postings on the Internet claim that this is possible using 'Home Sharing' feature in iTunes. I did enable 'Home Sharing' and it works for music and movies, but I cannot find how to share any of the existing contents from iBooks.
Is this what I am trying to do possible at all, and if it is, what would be the steps how to do it?

This is not exactly the same but may help

  • I share an itunes account with another person and have synced my iphone up until a few months ago due to there already being 5 computers authorized. How do I go about sync issues from here forward?

How to sync my iphone without having any more of the 5 computer allowance?

Would you mean walking me thru the basics on actually how to go about syncing?
    PLEASE?
Im sorry. Its incredibly frustrating b/c I havent had an "authirized" computer to sync with my iphone for months. My confusion is what happened that is different seeing I no alonger can sync?
Is it b/c Ive since set up my own (seperate) apple id? That being the case, must I use the apple id associated with the itunes account ?

  • How do I share my movies with my wife's iTunes account on the same iMac, without having to actually copy the movie into her library?

I apologize if this is already in the forum somewhere, I simply could not find this question being asked anywhere.  We have an iMac running Lion with all of the latest updates as well as the latest version of iTunes.  All of the digital movies we've purchased through iTunes, have been purchased through my iTunes account.  However, my wife is the one with the iPad, and syncs it with her own iTunes library and her own Apple ID.  I have turned on Homesharing for my library, and she can see my library from within her iTunes account.  We turned on the feature to automatically copy new movies into her library so that she could sync those movies onto her iPad.  However, I quickly discovered that it is literally storing a second copy of the movie file in her iTunes folder, and therefore eating up precious hard drive space.  Is there a way for her to "check" movies in my homeshare library from within iTunes to sync with her iPad when she connects it, without actually copying those movies into her iTunes folder?  If not, any suggestions on how we can solve this issue?

What you're describing is the expected behaviour.  I believe though that is also is the easiest way to have all the contents available to both of you at all times.  If you have a spacious hard drive you should probably allow this to happen as anything else will be harder to manage.
My suggestion would be the following if you want to try something different.
Store all your music at a location that is accessible by both of you — an example would be to use your Public Folder as the locations where iTunes will go and look for all the media files—.  Your wife does have access to it.
In the Finder you will need to move the folder name iTunes Music to the location in your Public Folder (see above).  Once that's done, you and your wife will have to go into the iTunes Preferences > Advance Preferences and un-check Copy files to iTunes Media folder when adding to library.  From this point on, you can continue to use iTunes as usual.  You'll need to tell your wife what has been newly downloaded/imported into your iTunes so she can manually go look for those items in that Public Folder iTunes of yours and import them into her iTunes.  She will not duplicate by doing that, but, like I say this is an all-manual work.
She can do the same, so you have access to contents she imported herself.  One more downside of this is that both usernames have to be active in your iMac.  If yours isn't, she won't be able to access any item (song, book, app) located in your Public Folder's iTunes.
I'm sure there's a way, if you have an router with external hard drive conectivity, for both of you to be able to access —independently— the iTunes Media at all times but I was just reading at another post that doing so can further complicate things.
Hope this helps.  Please let me know what you think or decide to do.

  • How do I share itunes purchases with my daughter?

I have purchased some songs on itunes for my daughter who is 11 so doesn't have her own itunes store account.  How can I share them with her?  We use the same computer with Windows 7, with different user logins and both have our own itunes library.  Home sharing doesn't seem to work, maybe because we are on the same computer? Any suggestions?

If you make sure that your iTunes account is authorised on her version of iTunes (Store > Authorise This Computer) then you should be able to copy those songs from your windows logon on to her logon and then add them to her iTunes library (File > Add File To Library, or Add Folder To Library) - so you probably need to have separate copeis of the songs

  • HT1727 how do i share itunes library with new iphone device?

I just bought a new iphone and set up new icloud account.  How do I share my itunes librbary with this device/account?

Guys, its not that easy. When you answer questions here, please imagine that some individuals may be new to apple, itunes, and its never just as easy as "select what you want. Explain how to get to the settings you are telling them to use, and step by step help... If they wanted a simple answer they wouldn't spend the time to get on here and ask.

  • How do i sync Itune accounts with out loosing all of my music on one account

I am a new Itunes account user and would like to sync with my mothers account because that is where all of my music is but i do not know how to sync two seperate accounts to do so. If you know how or have anny other way of helping please do so. Thank you

If it is purchased music, it will stay with her account.  Purchased from the iTunes store.  If the music is from stuff you or she ripped (imported from) cd's, that can be synced to your phone using iTunes.
