How do I share my iPhotos w/other Users on SAME computer?

I give up! I've looked at Help and everywhere. Tried (Share/)Exporting to other users but it doesn't seem to work. What am I not doing? Help!
THANKS.

Hi sherman,
Here are all the links I have for sharing your iPhoto Library.
SHARING IPHOTO LIBRARIES
Sharing libraries between users on the same local network
You can also share a library on the same machine between users the same way.
Sharing libraries between users on the same machine...
-both users must have sharing enabled in their iPhoto Preferences
-both users must be logged in and have iPhoto running
-Remember that you can only view the other library. You can't edit the photos or play the saved slideshows or view the made books or burn them to CD or DVD. The books and slideshows will show up as an album. You can play that album as an "on the fly" slideshow. You can drag images from the sharing library to your library in the source column to import them to your library. You can then edit, add to albums, books, slideshow, etc.

SHARING ONE IPHOTO LIBRARY BETWEEN USERS ON SAME MACHINE
You can try one of these three methods:
1- Use iPhoto Library Manager-the paid version
The documentation page will give instructions on how it is done.
2- Sharing one iPhoto library between several users on one machine
3- Share an iPhoto Library in tiger Using ACL's
4- I have also read about ShareAlike
There is no other info on the site about how it works.
I strongly urge anyone wanting to try any of the methods for sharing one iPhoto Library folder among more than one user to backup all iPhoto Library folders before attemptin anything.
if you need more help with one of the methods, post back and tell me exactly what you tried (all the steps) and what happens or doesn't happen when you try to share your library.

  • How do you share Aperture file across multiple users on same Mac?

How do you share Aperture file across multiple users on same Mac? Seems this should be a preferences choice.

When you share your library between users, you may run into permission and ownership problems, if both users are editing the Aperture library and not only reading it. To avoid that, it helps to put the Aperture library onto a separate disk or a separate partion of your hard drive. For s separate partition or disk you can enable the "ignore ownership on this volume" flag. Then all users can access the library as owners of this library.
You might try to put the aperture library into a shared folder on your mac, but that has caused problems recently, i.e. when the library also contains video files.

  • How do I stop sharing mail with other users on my computer

How do I stop sharing mail with other users on my Macbook pro?

You may have to set up different user accounts in the computer if you wish to
continue sharing the computer among other people, and only use the Mail app.
Otherwise, if you use a webmail such as yahoo, gmail, or other, just use a browser
and login each time; then there is no saving of your email to the computer as such.
I've never used an email client software, nor had an ISP based email account. So
my numerous computers have never downloaded email into software. No loss.
But the answers do include setting up extra user accounts, not admin level, so the
other users do not mess with the operating system; a standard account or just a
guest account to use a browser to access web-based login email accounts, works.
There are third-party email client for OS X, some are free applications, others are
part of a larger browser product, such as SeaMonkey, & other Mozilla derivatives.
They provide an email segment or client aspect; unlike Firefox that's a browser.
Setup information should be within the Help viewer in the computer itself. Or by a
simple search online, including the OS X version and any email client software
your computer may have installed. Some browser software includes email client.
Also there are several ways to go in this matter. I don't see questions, only answers.
To learn how the Mail application works, if you want to import everyone's mail, then
figure how to set up user accounts in the OS X. Or use web-mail & login by browser.
Hopefully you can find the best solution for the unasked question.
    Good luck & happy computing!

  • Is there a way to share iTunes music between different users on same computer?

Just bought a new iMac and want to share my library with my wife on same computer. We have separate user profiles on the computer, but don't want to have to import entire 200gb library twice onto the same machine. Is there a way to get her profile to see my music on the same computer?
    Thanks for any help!

There's also another way to do the same thing using iPhoto's alias mode. Tutorial #4 describes how to set it up and Tutorial #2 describes how to convert over to the alias system.

  • How can I share itunes music with others who use this computer??

I want to share my music with my granddaughter and she wants to share hers with me. We use the same computer but log in with different accounts. If the music is in the computer is seems there should be a way to share all the music.  Can we do that??

There are sharing abilities built into iTunes.  In the iTunes Help menu just type in "share."
I personally don't care for the way iTunes shares music.  I have taken a different route.  I use file sharing to share my Music folder with my wife.
From the Finder window right or control click on Music.
    Select Get Info
At the bottom of Get Info click on the lock icon to unlock changes
Under Sharing click on the + to add access to another user.
Select you daughters id. and add her.
    Give her Read Access.
Click on the Gear icon on the bottom and select "Apply to enclosed items."
Have you daughter do the same for you.  You will now have access to each others music.
There are several ways you can listen to each others music.
To listen to just one song I just use the Finder method.  Open Finder and click in the spotlight search field (upper right).  Type in some criteria (i.e. Artist, partial title, album name).  Files will appear in the finder window.  Select the icon view option.  You should see album artwork.  Move your mouse over the track you want to listen to and your should see a play button appear. Not sure which OSX versions support this (10.6 does).  Click on the play button.  If you don't see a play button you can play by selecting Get Info.  There is a play button in the preview section.  You can also play with Quick View.
To listen to a playlist you will need a multimedia player like VLC (google it if you don't have it).
From iTunes you can export your playlist from File > Library > Export Playlist... (.m3u works well)  Give your daughter read write access to the playlist file and from the Open With entry select VLC. (use the get info method)
Copy the playlist file to you daughters drop box in her public folder.  Have your daughter use the get info function to make sure her copy still points to VLC and not to iTunes.  If you open the playlist file with iTunes it may copy the tune files to her library. (don't want to end up with multiple copies of tunes on your Mac)
Double clicking on the playlist file will open VLC and begin playing.  There is a playlist button on VLC to view, sort and select tunes from the list.
    Phew!  Hope that helped.
    Dan
P.S.  Haven't tested this with copy protected stuff.

  • How do I share my Address Book with other users on same computer?

This continues to elude me. I tried Address Book sharing, syncing, etc. but they either didn't work or are way too slow. I just simply want to be able to use the same database for all users on the same computer. I'm really surprised that Apple doesn't offer this functionality.
I read one solution about creating a separate hard drive solution, selecting Ignore Permissions on it and moving the database to that and then setting up symbolic links for each user to point their Address Book database to that database. But this still seems like a major pain.
Is there not something more simple and reliable?
    Thank you.

No. You don't have to use an external drive and can put it in a folder in /Users/Shared and set inherited ACLs to allow different users to read/write to it as outlined in this [post|http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=7245381&#7245381]. You'll still need to erase original address book folders and put symbolic links to the shared folder if you do that. there is nothing simpler I'm afraid.

  • How do I share itunes libraries that are on the same computer and associated with separate Apple IDs?

My wife and I have our own Apple IDs, iphones, and separate itunes libraries. I'm trying to figure out whether we can share our libraries with each others iphones? Thanks in advance for any suggestions and insight.

    Hi there,
First..I am new to this forum and find the information provided to be very helpful... I had followed the iTunes link above to enable sharing between users in the same computer but it appears to be working on partially. What setup am I looking for ?
    1. We have an iMac (Snow Leopard) with 1 Adult ID and 2 children IDs
    2. The iTunes music folder is stored in a Shared public folder where the Adult ID has read/write access and the 2 kids with read-only access (so that they don't accidently delete songs...:-)
    3. The iTunes on the Adult ID has the access to purchase songs. The kids have no acccess to buy songs
    4. All songs, podcasts to be visible to all users
    What has happened ?
    1. I am able to make the base of songs visible to all users
    2. However when a song is purchased by the adult account ..it is not visible to the kids account ..:-{
    3. The same thing occurs when a song is imported from a CD
    4. When a new playlist is created by the Adult account it is not visible to the kids account ..:-(
How can I make changes made by the Adult be made visible to the kids without having the need to constant add music files or libraries for each kid..?
    Thanks in advance..

  • How do I share libraries between 2 accts on the same computer?  (2 users accts, 2itunes accts)

I am trying to share one ITunes library to another on the same computer.  Any ideas???
    Thank you in advance.

Check this Apple document out -> iTunes: How to share music between different accounts on a single computer.
You'll basically put the iTunes music folder into a shared folder and make sure iTunes is pointed to that shared folder.

  • HT3819 How do I share downloaded tracks between different users on same mac?

Hello.  I bought my new Mac a couple of months ago.  I set it up with three different users, one for myself as admin, one for my wife, and one for our daughter, all on the same Mac. My wife and I both have our own Itunes account.  I spent a couple of days downloading almost all of our CDs into my Itunes library.  Now, I want to know how my wife and daughter can access these songs in their libraries so that they can put tracks on their Ipods.  So far, the only option that I have been able to see is the downloading of the CDs all over again into my wife's library.  Wouldn't this just make duplicate tracks on the Hard Drive?  If anyone can help, or point me in the right direction, it would be much appreciated.
    Thank you.

    It works for "initial sharing" but the described solution includes some drawbacks;
    - songs added under one account don't show "automatically" for other users
    - if added there is a copy of the song-file (* 2.mp3)
    - no "bulk" import withoud re-adding already present songs
Any workarounds for these problems known? 'caus I'm getting tired to keep the 3 iTune Libs of my girls in synch
    AdvTHANKSance Chris

  • Sharing music with other users on same computer...possible?

I'd like to be able to share music between users who can log in on the same computer. Is this possible and how.
I currently have all the music in the admiistrators log in and can't see it when I log in as a regular user.
    Thanks for any help

    Hi,
Follow the instructions given in this article. http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93195
You might also want to uncheck the preference in the other Users accounts to prevent them from adding the song file to the hard disk when importing music. This means that only YOU as the admin can add files to the Library. You will find this preference under iTunes in the menu bar, Click on the "Advanced" tab and then the "General" Tab.
    Regards,
    Ben.

  • How do you transfer songs to second iTunes user account; same computer

How do I transfer songs from one user account to another user account on the same computer?
I've given my son his own account on our second computer. Prior to this, he shared his sister's iTunes account, using a playlist to populate his ipod. Now that he has his own account, he wants to transfer his music to his own account. Is it possible to do this quickly? I've been able to copy some actual song files from the first iTunes library and physically move them to the new account using a flash drive, but this is cumbersome. Any better options? Thanks.

    Name wrote:
Sounds like a good plan. What folder/files do I move...the entire 'iTunes Media' folder?  ...and how do I point to it...through the advanced preferenced feature?
It would be the folder you have selected as your Library folder. Usually Mac HD/Users/[User]/Music/iTunes/iTunes Media
    See below:
Select Mac HD/Users/Shared/Music - CREATE IT if need be
Move your iTunes folder to the new Music folder. You'll probably have to "re import" the Library in iTunes. (Clear the old library first)
But ionce it;s in the Shared Music folder, EVERY account on the comp can access those files for their own library (whichever songs THEY want) and you onle need ONE copy of everything.
Each user can only access or modify THEIR OWN library while logged on so it prevents someone erasing another's library, because the iTunes Library file is in a locked folder when others are logged in.

  • How can I share my ical with other users on the same machine?

Having recently bought an imac I set up accounts for the family. I'd like to share a generic calendar with everyone that only the adults can read/write, but want to allow everyone to hold their personal calendars at the same time. All the accounts are on the same machine. Can this be done? If so how?

You can only do this by syncing your calendar to an external server - MobileMe is designed for this but if you don't already have a MobileMe account you can't start one now.
If you do have a MobileMe account the method is described here:
    http://www.wilmut.webspace.virginmedia.com/notes/sharedcalendar.html#publicshare
If you don't, you could sync to Google Calendar (Google accounts are free) or wait for iCloud which should be out in a couple of months and will probably provide this sort of facility.
You might like to consider BusyCal which is like iCal Pro - similar to iCal but with extra facilities. It can sync calendars on a Lan and also between accounts on the same machine (you have to have fast user switching enabled).
There is a free trial available on their website: it's slightly cheaper from the Mac App Store. (I have no connection with this company).
