How do I share my Library with my Wife?

Another obvious question, but for the life of me I cannot see how to share my complete library.
I am not talking about selecting photos to publish between family members ... I would use fakebook or other social media for that ... this is simply how do we have all of our photos tagged and together in a single place, regardless of who takes them, and with which device? It should be easy ... I just presume that I am having a really dense day.
Should this be posted in the iCloud section? All that talks about is social media and 5000 photo limits.
Alternately ... where are the photos in the new app? where is the database? Can I subscribe to dropbox and t=use their sync facilities?
Thanks.

You can use Photos and the iCloud Library feature. You just both log into the same Library.
That sounds good ... I thought (presumed) that if I use my iCloud drive for this then my wife would have to use my iCloud drive herself ... wold that not cause issues with calendars, reminders, mail etc. I cannot see a location in preferences where I can decide what iCloud ID to use for photos, and what to use for the remainder. If I could find that then it would be great. I could set up (and pay for) a large account that we could both use whilst remaining separate in all other contexts.
Do you know where that setting is?
Family sharing does not seem to over it.
Thanks.

  • How do I share my library with a family member and not get their music?

I have an itunes music library. My husband has it on an ipod. He would like to add music that I don't want. I would like him to open his own account to purchase his music but he would still like my music as well. How do we do this?

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
Once he has created his own account, he can share your library on his computer from yours using homesharing, he can then import anything from your library to his own.

  • HT1727 how do i share itunes library with new iphone device?

Guys, its not that easy. When you answer questions here, please imagine that some individuals may be new to apple, itunes, and its never just as easy as "select what you want. Explain how to get to the settings you are telling them to use, and step by step help... If they wanted a simple answer they wouldn't spend the time to get on here and ask.

  • How can I share an iBook with my wife?

I am planning a major purchase of English language reference books (dictionaries, grammars, usage guides). The prices are high and number of books I plan to buy is close to ten which adds up to a little bit less than $500.
All of them I certainly want to share with my wife who has her own iPad, Mac, and iPhone. However, we both want to keep our Apple IDs and iCloud accounts separate, and not to share emails, documents in iWorks etc.
Some postings on the Internet claim that this is possible using 'Home Sharing' feature in iTunes. I did enable 'Home Sharing' and it works for music and movies, but I cannot find how to share any of the existing contents from iBooks.
Is this what I am trying to do possible at all, and if it is, what would be the steps how to do it?

This is not exactly the same but may help

  • How can I share my music with my wife's account?

My family has multiple accounts on various devices (IPods, IPad) that share one IMac. How can I share the music on my account with my wife's account? My music doesn't show up on her account and vice/versa.

I'm sorry to say, unless you're using apples pay service, that allows you to upload your own music, there is no way to do that. I'm assuming that the music you are talking about has not been purchased through them. If it has, then you can redownload it to any devices from within your app.
I personally dont think its fair that you can't import music from your own online sources, but apple isnt in the busness of giving us what we want, just what will make them money.
You could also look into some of the rare apps that have been allowed to slip through such as 8player or vlc. One of those might be able to pull from your own online source, but I cant say for sure, and its unlikely is will work very well. I personally have started using a third party cloud service to store backups of my music, that might be something to look into.

  • How do I share my movies with my wife's iTunes account on the same iMac, without having to actually copy the movie into her library?

I apologize if this is already in the forum somewhere, I simply could not find this question being asked anywhere.  We have an iMac running Lion with all of the latest updates as well as the latest version of iTunes.  All of the digital movies we've purchased through iTunes, have been purchased through my iTunes account.  However, my wife is the one with the iPad, and syncs it with her own iTunes library and her own Apple ID.  I have turned on Homesharing for my library, and she can see my library from within her iTunes account.  We turned on the feature to automatically copy new movies into her library so that she could sync those movies onto her iPad.  However, I quickly discovered that it is literally storing a second copy of the movie file in her iTunes folder, and therefore eating up precious hard drive space.  Is there a way for her to "check" movies in my homeshare library from within iTunes to sync with her iPad when she connects it, without actually copying those movies into her iTunes folder?  If not, any suggestions on how we can solve this issue?

What you're describing is the expected behaviour.  I believe though that is also is the easiest way to have all the contents available to both of you at all times.  If you have a spacious hard drive you should probably allow this to happen as anything else will be harder to manage.
My suggestion would be the following if you want to try something different.
Store all your music at a location that is accessible by both of you — an example would be to use your Public Folder as the locations where iTunes will go and look for all the media files—.  Your wife does have access to it.
In the Finder you will need to move the folder name iTunes Music to the location in your Public Folder (see above).  Once that's done, you and your wife will have to go into the iTunes Preferences > Advance Preferences and un-check Copy files to iTunes Media folder when adding to library.  From this point on, you can continue to use iTunes as usual.  You'll need to tell your wife what has been newly downloaded/imported into your iTunes so she can manually go look for those items in that Public Folder iTunes of yours and import them into her iTunes.  She will not duplicate by doing that, but, like I say this is an all-manual work.
She can do the same, so you have access to contents she imported herself.  One more downside of this is that both usernames have to be active in your iMac.  If yours isn't, she won't be able to access any item (song, book, app) located in your Public Folder's iTunes.
I'm sure there's a way, if you have an router with external hard drive conectivity, for both of you to be able to access —independently— the iTunes Media at all times but I was just reading at another post that doing so can further complicate things.
Hope this helps.  Please let me know what you think or decide to do.

  • How can I share my library with my daughter ?

I have an iphone and my daughter has an iphone.  We have 2 different itunes account and one network library.  itunes will not let me transfer music to her account from the main library.  It comes up with a red circle with a slash through it.  I have already given permission for homesharing, so I am stuck.

See this support document. http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3819 it probably has to do with computer authorizations.

  • How can i share my library with my new computer when the itunes on the new computer does not have the "look for shared libraries" command in the preferences/shared pane?

It worked fine before i updated the most recent update, My old computer readds the new one but the new one does not read the old one now.

Is the iTunes library actually shared on the old computer?
I have never had a need for forcing iTunes to look for shared libraries, it simply detects them.

  • How can I share a calendar with my wife

I got a family mobileme account. We each have our own iPhone. I'd like anyway that allows me to:
    1. Put in an appointment on my iPhone
    2. That appointment pops up on her iPhone or iCal. I would love it if it popped up as a grayed "invitation" appointment.
How can this happen? I have a gmail account, a MS Exchange account through my work, and we both have mobileme accounts. Somehow, someway, in some place, this has to work, right?
I've been working on this setup for days. It's 3am. Somebody please answer.

This is funny you said that because I was just coming in here to say that I figured out a solution - only to see it was exactly what you put: Spanning Sync.
My wife and I even have two seperate google calendars and this all still works. Google calendar has the blessed ability to be able to fully share calendars. That means, I have a "Work" calendar, which is mine, and a "family" calendar, which I set up to allow my wife to fully use and change. That automatically puts that "Family" calendar in her list.
There can be some kinks to this, tho. If I put something in my iPhone, and I want her to see it in her iPhone, I need to make sure both our computers are on and running all the programs. Yesterday, our internet at our house went down while we were both working. The calendar item I added on mine hadn't shown up because there was a break in the chain-links of sync's.
    *In Summary:*
    1. Spanning Sync can help do the job.
    2. If there's a break in the chain, your syncs won't go through.
    3. Doing it this way costs either $120, or $50/year for Spanning Sync licenses.
    4. The invitation system still won't go across the way exchange does.
    4. It would be much better if Apple would do this in iCal/iPhone.
*What would I ask of Apple?* It would be great if:
    1. Apple would allow calendar sharing the way google does.
    2. Apple would allow iCal to fully sync with Google Calendar so we don't have to pay ($12020 for my wife and I) to use a 3rd party app to do it.

  • How do I share my music with my wife

At the moment, my wife and I share an itunes account, and an icloud acount which becomes a problem.
I have just had to purchase more icloud space as we both have an ipad and an iphone and want to back them up - problem 1 - if she had her own icloud account she would have space, but then we cannot share photos and files accross the icloud?
We also have a single itunes account, which means apps like findmyfriends does not work - we have a single account, so that when I purchase a CD track she can listen to it just like if we had bought the actual CD.  Also thinking of using itunes Match but that causes a problem as it will be linked to my account.
    Any suggestions??

  • Married.  Now how can I combine my library with my wife's?

Just got married. My wife and I have quite a few songs on our individual computers. How can we combine our libraries, you know, what's mine is yours, what's yours is mine?

    Hey!
Do you have the music files on your computer? If not heres what I would suggest doing first...
    1. open "My Music"
    2. Make a new folder
    3. Name it after your wife.
    4. bring all her music in that folder.
    5. import that whole folder into your itunes.
That should do you. This is allittle vague, but im gonna guess you can do this much. Reply if you need more help.
