How do I share one folder on iCloud Drive

Me and my wife have different AppleID. We are going paperless and want to share one folder either on my or her iCloud Drive.
Using a mutual Dropbox account today but want to be inside Apples ECO-system.
Called Apple and they told me not possible. Are they correct?

AsI said - you have to open the application folders and delete the documents  inside - for each folder separately. And wait for these changes to sync.
The folders themselves cannot be deleted, only their content.
The iCloud setting for the applications are device specific. If you enabled an app for iCloud on any device, you will see the application collection in iCloud, even if you disable it on other devices.
If one disables the apps in the iCoud System Preferences, their folders disappear in the finder but are still in the cloud -- and there is a big pile of other garbage.
First delete the documents in the folders, until they are empty on iCloud, then hide the folders on your devices by disabling the app in the "Manage my storage" iCloud preferences.
I want to reliably delete ALL data (including any folders or metadata Apple lets us not see) -- a complete reset for iCloud Drive
You can only delete documents you move to iCloud drive, not Apple's maintenance files.
And you can only reset each device individually, that is using iCloud Drive, by disabling iCloud Drive, rebooting, signing in again. But you cannot reset the central storage in iCloud.
- and there is a big pile of other garbage.
What kind of other garbage, beside the application collections?

  • HT201385 how can I see a folder in iCloud drive with documents from my computer on my other devices?  Seems like it only works with iApps like Pages etc.

I have iCloud drive set up on all my apple devices and all is current, but I have a older I put in iCloud drive on my laptop.  How can I get to those documents in that folder on my iPhone and iPad? Is there also a way to grant access like in the good old days for someone to drop a file to me in a quasi-public folder in iCloud drive.  We did this years ago in OS7...why not now?

You're going to find that pretty much every cloud storage system works in a similar way. Some, like OneDrive, will allow you to select what folders sync to and from every machine it's installed on.
Maybe something like that would fit your needs better.

How do I share one itunes account between two users on the same computer without taking up twice as much space on my hard drive?

You would need to move the itunes folder to a location that both users have permissions to access such as the Shared folder or any folder on the root level of the macintosh HD.
You can find instructions here http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1203 This method allows you to share the content without sharing the same library.

CT probably has the same total dislike for what Apple has done as I do. The problem is iCloud doesn't even begin to provide the services that MobileMe did.
As far as storing stuff in the cloud ise Drop Box, that what I do.

  • Can you share large files on iCloud drive like dropbox?

I am exploring how to use iCloud drive now...and had a basic question.  Can you share large files from it in a similar way as you can with dropbox?  This is a great feature of dropbox...or google drive when mailing large files just doesn't work.
I have a Yosemite beta currently, and it doesn't look like you can do this.
I also was wondering if anyone has figured out how to make an alias of the iCloud drive on the desktop rather than always opening a finder window in order to drop files into iCloud drive....

Have a look at the iCloud Drive FAQ:  The file size limit is 15 G:   iCloud Drive FAQ     http://support.apple.com/kb/HT201104
You can store any type of file in iCloud Drive, as long as it's less than 15 GB in size. There's no restriction on file type, so you keep all of your work documents, school projects, presentations, and more up to date across all of your devices. If you make an alias to a folder on iCloud Drive, you can drag it to the Favourites in the Finder sidebar. That is the best I could do.

  • How do I save a file to iCloud Drive and NOT have it sync to all my devices?

I have a Macbook Air with 128GB of SSD storage.  I have a Mac Mini with 2TB of storage.  Both are running OS X 10.10 with iCloud Drive enabled.  All iOS devices are on 8.0+ with iCloud Drive.  I want to upload files to my iCloud Drive from my Macbook Air and then delete them off my Air to save valuable storage space.  When I try to delete a file from my iCloud Drive on my MB Air, it prompts me to say that the file will be deleted from ALL iCloud Drive devices.  I just want delete it locally on the MB Air.  Is there a way to do this?  Do I have to do it through the iCloud Drive web interface?  Can I just make a folder in iCloud Drive that does not sync to the other devices but you can still "view" the files?  I just want to save files in the iCloud but not have all those files synced on my Macbook Air.  Make sense?   Help please!  Thank you in advance.

    Hi henawybek,
    Welcome to Apple Support Communities.
Take a look at the article linked below, it provides answers to frequently asked questions about iCloud Drive and will help you solve your question.
    iCloud Drive FAQ
You can access your files in iCloud Drive any of these ways:
On your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch with iOS 8, you can use Apple apps like Pages, Numbers, and Keynote, or any apps that support iCloud Drive.
    I hope this helps.

  • How can I share a folder between two users on the same mac?

    Hi all,
I would like to share a folder between multiple users on the same macbook without having to transfer the folder to the Public/Shared folder.
Is there not a way, using the the folders shared permissions, to allow shared folders from one user to be visible and usable by another user on the same mac without having to move the folder to a designated shared location?
    Regards,
    Caleb

Thanks, but do you have to do that every time you share a folder?
No, you just need to do it once and that's it. Anything that is in the Shared folder is accessible by all user accounts within the same Mac.

Can you give me an example of such a blog. I suspect you may have mis-understood what they were saying but if you can provide a link, I'll look at it.

  • How can I share a folder between two users on the same iMac?

I have an iMac with 2 user accounts and I want to share a folder between them. I have gone on to system preferences>sharing and turned on file sharing. I have also got the 'Get Info' thing up, selected 'Shared Folder' and added the other user to the read and write permissions...it just doesn't show up on the other desktop (the folder is on my desktop, I would have expected to see it on the other desktop...?)
    Any ideas?

  • How do I share a folder on mac mini with other macs in the network?

    Howdy all!
The scenario I have in mind is that I have one folder in our Mac Mini (used as Home Theater) with all the family's music files on it. The rest of the family would be able to access the folder and copy the music they prefer onto their own computers (iMacs and Macbooks). The other computers would have read only access, they would not be able to alter the contents of the original file (to prevent accidental deletion). Only the user of the Mini Home Theater could alter the contents of said file.
I have tried pulling up the "Get Info" window and clicking the "Shared Folder" and "Locked" boxes, but all this seems to do is make the user of the Mac Mini unable to alter the contents of the folder. All the other macs on the network can access and alter the folder contents no problem.
    What am I missing?
Thank you for any advice you can give!

This isn't quite what I was looking for. I don't want to share the folder with users on the same computer--I want to share the folder with users on other computers.
Unless there is some way to identify users on other computers. How can I do that?

  • How do I share photo streams between iCloud accounts?

We have two iPhones and iPads with separate icloud accounts.
We want to share one Photo Stream but not the other.
We share a Mac but don't activate Photo Stream on iPhoto.
How do we share the (one) Photo Stream via the iPhone/iPad?
    Thank you.

That's what Photostream is used for.
    Thanks for the responses.
What do you mean by this comment?
It's the current photos that I'm after - I thought thats what Photo Stream did.
Therefore I presume that means that only Albums or inidvidual photos can be shared?
    Many thanks

  • How do I share a folder permanently to guest user - no internet connection

Hi, sorry but ive tried looking everywhere and cannot find the answer.
Im the main user and admin of my macbook pro, I have also set up a guest account so any user can login with no password and use the computer.
However, I would like to permanently share 1 folder I have with movies and pictures with the guest account.
I know I can enable folder sharing through the internet, but I dont want that, I all I want is to allow access to one of my folders and make it visible to the guest account.
Is this possible or do you have any suggestions?
    Thanks!

Hi Clinton thanks for your answer.. But it does not work for me. I put the folder under: Users > Shared Folder
and I still cant see it when I log in to the guest session.
I attached 2 screenshots.. Screen 1 shows how I placed the folder "movies" in the shared folder on my main account and Screen 2 shows you what I see when I log in as Guest.
Please let me know if Im doing something wrong,
    Thanks,

  • How do I share a folder?

Is there any way to share a specific folder with someone on my family sharing? If there is no way I would like to find the Apple equivalent of a suggestion box. This concept could be exceedingly useful.

    Hi osxVictoria,
File sharing is a feature of the operating system of your Mac, not with the Family Sharing feature of iTunes.  Your profile doesn't indicate what version you are working with, so I'll include information for OS X 10.10.2 which is Yosemite.  The process is similar for earlier versions.
