I have a ringtone that I downloaded. How do I shorten it to use it as a text tone? I have the ringtone in iTunes already. Thanks.

You have to create iphone ringtones. You can create them from most any song/sound file.
Google will find several free ways to do this.

Thanks for the help, but this is not the problem.
It's hard to describe the problem, but I'll try it again, this time with pictures.
I was left with the following folders in the iTunes Downloads folder.

These TMP Folders have a download.m4a and a Info.plist file.
After moving the audio files in iTunes a bit I get this.

As you can see no other Information for the download.m4a than the length.

Did the ringtone come as an attachment? If so just save the file. If you downloaded it when you opened the email it should be in your downloads.

In the iPhone view of iTunes on my computer, it shows that my phone recognizes that I had those ringtones, but there is an exclamation mark showing that my phone can't find the files. I can't delete these "placeholders" from my phone with the hopes of re-transfering the files back to the phone, either. I cannot just simply re-transfer the files from my computer back to the phone. It won't let me using the regular synch options and I can't find anything in the menus of iTunes to help me out either.

It took me 3 hours to update my ipnone4. Then I lost all my pictures, apps, and music. I was able to reinstall my apps and didn't have to pay for them. I was also able to get my music put back on, however the ringtones I paid for I couldn't. The pictures I suppose were my fault for not saving them before I did the update. But I've only had this phone for 3 months and I'm still trying to understand some of the quarks that it has.

Yes the wipe would delete all personal data settings as a security feature designed in the device.
Unless you have used the Blackberry desktop software to get a full backup of the device prior to the wipe the data is gone. If you do have the backup file you can restore the data via the desktop manager.

I don't understand this answer. What do you mean " your contacts should be in whatever program/service you have selected to sync."? The address book is created on the phone not in Itunes or any other program/service. When Itunes says backing up phone I have to assume it backs up everything on the phone. Most of what's on my phone does not come out of itunes. I download apps directly on the phone. When the software updates it does not bring those apps back. I have to go into the appstore and install them all over again. Itunes music library syncs with whatever is on the device your linked up to BUT the phone book just dissappears after you update the phone. There is no way to save it anywhere else.
